Rare WWII Internment Camp issue!
A genuine Australian Second World War artefact, we have the rare privilege of presenting a Hay Internment Camp Sixpence note!
The Hay Internment Camp was established in NSW in 1940, and some form of currency was needed for transactions within the camp economy. Unbeknownst to authorities, ‘banknotes’ were created by the camp inmates! Printed in tiny numbers from March 1941, most notes were destroyed by August the same year.
Presumably hidden away by guards or inmates as souvenirs, some survived – including the Mendel-Stahl Sixpence presented here.
A compelling combination of undeniable rarity and fascinating WWII history, this genuine Internment Camp note represents a very special opportunity.
