Seldom seen as a complete collection, the George VI 10/- note set is headlined by the first of the series, the 1939 Sheehan/McFarlane – printed in low numbers, and the only George VI 10/- with the signatures in the same colour as the note. Scarce in better grade, the series also includes the 1942 Armitage/McFarlane, 1949 Coombs/Watt and 1952 Coombs/Wilson.

As Australia’s lowest note denomination, the 10/suffered a high rate of circulation. Carausius – founder of the London Mint

Established in 287AD, the Roman mint in London did not owe its existence to official Roman policy – it was created by the rebel Carausius in blatant defiance of Rome!

In 286AD, Carausius declared himself Emperor of Britain and northern Gaul after sentenced to death by Emperor Maximian for crimes against the empire. With Rome supplying no coinage, he set up a mint in London, striking coins in his name until he was killed in 293AD by his treasurer, Allectus.

In superior quality, we have a tiny number of London coins of Carausius available.

Pilate served as governor of the Roman Province of Judaea from 26/27AD to 36/37AD. It was Pilate who oversaw the trial of Jesus, and ordered his crucifixion.
