And now, both residents and business owners have an environment that will keep you informed about what is happening in the city of Doral, with more news, more entertainment and many more surprises in the community for the community. I would like to thank those individuals who contributed to this first edition of Doral family Journal, with a special thanks to my family. Now, the success of future editions will depend largely on you, our readers who comprise our future contributors. We know they will identify with Doral Family Journal at this new stage. This first meeting with readers is the best way to prove it. We deeply thank all those who trusted in Doral Family Journal when it started with a simple idea and followed it through our online site since its inception ... he subject matter of this article arises from a series of conversations with our readers regarding what they hear more of, and the overwhelming response was education, our children’s future. In preparing this, we reached out to union teachers, politicians, parents, activists, and our marvelous students who gave us their perspective. The education of the Public Schools is free of charge from kindergarten to 12th grade. It offers several programs to suit every child’s academic level or need. It does not discriminate when it comes to special education, and provides paraprofessionals accordingly. It fosters a further career focused mentally through programs such as the International Baccalaureate and the Cambridge Program, which puts students through college level standards while they are still in high school. It also facilitates getting ahead through programs such as Dual Enrollment. The system is bound by regulations set forth by the school district and it is the accountable to the state government. The right to become part of the system is granted upon completion of basic documents required to make sure students enroll at their corresponding school. The education of the Charter Schools are also free of charge and under the responsibility of the state government, they provide education from kinder to 12th grade, and operate under the same

laws as public schools. The difference comes in that they are financed by private companies, and thus the programs offered vary as well as other factors such as class size, and teacher contracts. The right to enroll in one of these schools is allotted through a selection process, rather than geographic location, and does not necessarily have to provide accommodations for students with learning disabilities. This semi-private system has been steadily growing, but raise concerns in ar-

Governor Rick Scott is the primary authority in the State of Florida and thus it is left to him to propose laws to legislators and make decisions as to veto the ones that are not in everyone’s best interest. He has been in office for a mere 5 months yet he has a low approval percentage, most likely due to his harsh measures to reduce the fiscal deficit, which have left the public school system scrambling for funds.

We begin our discussion by stating the fundamental principal behind it all: education is a basic right provided by the Constitution of the United States.

This last legislative session in Tallahassee is a clear and concise message that he does not. The public education of our children has received and approved 50% budget cut for next fiscal year, while simultaneously numerous charter and private schools are opening up across the state. On the surface this may seem like a savings but a little closer look to this supposed savings reveals; each child transferring to a

Due to the fact that the Class Size Amendment was passed by Florida voters last year, schools this year had to comply by placing no more than 25 students in “core classes” in high schools. This meant that schools had to hire many more teachers and use sometimes-questionable rooms in order to house the correct number of students per class. The redefining of such “core classes” means that now a lesser number of classes must strictly adhere to that law; lessening its effect on Florida schools.” Regarding the techers and the UTD, the overall feeling is negative, as teacher Mr Mazar indicated: “Governor Scott has snubbed the public school system at several media reported occasions since becoming Florida’s governor. He has made several appearances at private charter schools and has snubbed the public school system. At a recent appearance his security barred anyone from attending the press conference that appeared to be a democrat.” Several political groups insist that the budget put forth by Governor Scott will reduce jobs rather than create them. Regarding the concerns of these actions, Mr. Reyes explained: “In a word “money”, as cost of education goes up every year

As we stated earlier, it is of the upmost importance to stay informed, to follow the legislative actions, and vote for those that most closely represent our views. Thus the debate is open, our purpose was to bring our readers the complete perspective, from both sides. It is now left to our citizens to participate in the aspects that so closely affect our lives. There are many leaders on our side that require our support.

I truly believe the short term gains on the bottom of some ledger today will have long and irreparable damage to the future of our children and sets a very dangerous precedent.” Alejandro Moreno on the subject: “I believe that Governor Scott is mainly motivated by the bleak outlook of Florida’s economy. In these hard times our state government collects much less from taxes for its general revenue fund, and as a result, is not able to continue funding everything it once did. While I would err on the side that believes education should remain untouched, Governor Scott believes different feels that education can be cut. He is also a strong proponent of charter schools, which in his opinion are able to function better than public schools. In my opinion, they have to adhere to different rules than public ones do, so obviously there is a difference in performance, whether positive or negative is up for interpretation”.

Charter schools are out to “make a name for them-selves” and literally hunt only the best children to augment their curriculums. Boasting outlandish claims of “best education” and “college preferred curriculums”. The truth is the standardize testing like the FCAT and SAT are the measure of a Childs performance and how a child progresses through school in either public or private education and there is no real difference. A reality is that to maintain “apparent” high marks the Charter schools avoid enrolling children referred to as “children of a lesser God”. This very hurtful and offensive reference to challenged children, children with emotional, mental, or physical handicaps. Charter schools unlike public schools are not required to maintain Para-Professionals, Psychologist, or Counselors to deal with these children. These children then are left in a public school system that faces cutback every day more and more. It a modern day ethnic cleansing of special needs children. I think that is wrong and shameful.” Also on the subject, Alejandro Moreno, RRDSH Student Council President added: “Among the most negative things that I believe came out of the 2011 Florida legislative session was the reduction in Florida FTE funding. This cut the public education budget by 8% of last year’s budget. Ultimately this affected Miami-Dade Public Schools with a reduction of over $200 million dollars. The effects of this can already start to be seen as next school

n conversaciones con nuestros lectores, el tema mas solicitado por ellos, era saber mas sobre educación dado que la preocupación sobre el futuro de sus hijos era su máxima prioridad. Para poder preparar este informe contamos con la participación de profesores, sindicalistas, políticos, padres, activistas y estudiantes que nos dieron sus puntos de vista. Iniciamos este reportaje partiendo de una premisa: la educación básica es un derecho fundamental amparado por la Constitución de Estados Unidos y que está por encima de cualquier ley. La educación del Sistema Público, contempla la educación gratuita desde Kinder hasta 12vo grado, con programas regulares, avanzados y especiales. No discrimina situaciones de educación especial y provee para profesionales para los casos que lo ameriten. Fomenta altos estándares académicos a través de las escuelas Magnets y programas como el Cambridge. Tiene convenios con universidades para que parte de la educación sea recibida en los campus universitarios: “Dual Enrollment”... Se rige según las regulaciones dictadas para cada uno de los Distritos Escolares y es responsabilidad absoluta del Estado. La educación en el Sistema Charter, es financiado por empresas privadas y comparte la responsabilidad de la administración con el Gobierno Estatal. La educación es gratuita y abarca de

Este sistema a crecido en todo el Estado, lo que es un punto de gran preocupación pues elimina criterios fundamentales como responsabilidad de autoridades educativas y derecho a ser educados sin procesos de selección. La educación en instituciones privadas, se ri-

gen según normas particulares correspondientes. El Gobierno es solo un ente verificador, por tanto son los padres de familia los que financian la educación de sus hijos. La relación entre política y educación es mas que directa: los políticos elegidos democráticamente son los encargados de tomar las decisiones sobre la educación, tristemente no son muchos los educadores que acceden a estas posiciones por lo que más de una vez las normas aprobadas han causado controversia y terminan siendo rechazadas por los directos afectados. Por ejemplo, el Gobernador Rick Scott, no tiene mas de cinco meses en el puesto y sin embargo la mayoría de las encuestas indican un bajo porcentaje de aprobación, esto principalmente por las medidas urgentes que ha tenido que tomar para reducir el déficit fiscal del Estado. Estas medidas han afectado a diversas áreas siendo la educación, la más perjudicada. Gerardo Reyes, conocido activista comunitario y padre de familia nos indicó, que “el gobernador ha dejado claro que no apoya la educación pública”. Este último período de sesiones legislativas en Tallahassee se puede ver claramente esta aseveración. El recorte del presupuesto en la educación pública es de 50% para próximo año fiscal, mientras que numerosas escuelas charter y privadas, se están abriendo en todo el estado. “La transferencia de cada niño a una escuela

Reyes comentó que esta es una realidad para mantener la aparente alta calificación... “las escuelas charter evitan inscribir a los niños con problemas de aprendizaje. Esto es dañino y ofensivo para niños con discapacidades emocionales, mentales o físicas. Las escuelas charter a diferencia de las escuelas públicas no están obligados a mantener para-profesionales, psicólogos o consejeros para tratar con estos niños. Estos niños, luego se quedan en un sistema de escuelas públicas que se enfrenta diariamente a recortes. Es una limpieza étnica de hoy en día de los niños con necesidades especiales. Creo que está mal y es vergonzoso”. Por su parte, Alejandro Moreno, líder de los estudiantes por tres años consecutivos en Doral Public School Rally to Tally y RRDSH Student Council President 2011-2012 agregó: “Creo que entre las cosas más negativas de la Sesión 2011 de la legislatura de la Florida fue la reducción de los fondos FTE. Este recorte del presupuesto de educación pública es de un 8% con respecto al año pasado, lo que a final de cuentas implica una

reducción de más de $200 millones para Miami-Dade Public Schools” . En cuanto a los maestros, el sentimiento es desalentador, el Prof. Louis Mazar, nos dijo que el “Gobernador Scott ha desairado el sistema escolar público desde que asumió la Gobernación de la Florida. “Sus reuniones han sido sólo con representantes de escuelas charter y privadas”. En una reciente aparición pública, miembros de su seguridad, prohibieron la asistencia a la conferencia de prensa a cualquier individuo que pudiera ser del Partido Demócrata. Diversas agrupaciones políticas insisten que el presupuesto presentado por Scott, lejos de crear puestos de trabajo los va a reducir. Ante estas iniciativas tomadas por el Gobernador Scott, Gerardo Reyes nos explicó: “Todo se reduce a una palabra: dinero. Como el costo de la educación aumenta cada año, para que el Estado pueda mantener el sistema escolar, es más fácil y más conveniente pasar el costo al sector privado”. Lo que muchos no se dan cuenta es que los $ 6.000 de pérdida en el sistema público se desvían al sistema privado y por tanto los impuestos,

tros hijos va ser muy grande y eso sienta un precedente muy peligroso” asumió Reyes. “El Gob. Scott esta motivado actuar así en base al sombrío panorama de la economía de la Florida. En estos tiempos difíciles de nuestro gobierno recauda menos de los impuestos , y como resultado, no puede seguir financiando proyectos como antes. Aunque me gustaría pecar por exceso creo firmemente que la educación debe seguir siendo protegida y no sufrir reducciones en su presupuesto” comento el estudiante A. Moreno. “En mi opinión, tienen que cumplir con diferentes normas que las públicas, así que obviamente hay una diferencia en el rendimiento, ya sea positivo o negativo, depende de la interpretación”. Mientras que el Prof. Mazar, agrega que la falta de conocimiento y de apoyo al educador ha llevado a pensar que reducciones en los fondos educativos son salidas necesarias a la crisis, dejando de lado, la calidad en la educación. La tendencia ahora es “privatizar” sin pensar en las consecuencias futuras de esta opción, y los problemas actuales nos han alcanzado por el fracaso de los legisladores en Tallahassee, incluidos muchos de los de MiamiDade,que no hicieron nada para mejorar los ingresos para nuestras escuelas públicas. Por el contrario, eludieron su responsabilidad constitucional con los niños de la Florida y actuaron a favor de los recortes de impuestos corporativos”. Que hacemos? Como lo dijimos en un principio, es necesario estar informado, seguir las acciones en la Legislatura y votar responsablemente por quienes realmente representan nuestras ideas y posiciones. El debate está abierto entonces. La intención de este reportaje es dar una visión global de la situación actual de la educación en la Florida, de la tendencia a cambios que los expertos no consideran viables por los motivos expuestos aquí, y de las consecuencias a futuro si no se toman acciones inmediatas. El deber ciudadano de todos los que vivimos en este país nos pide participar y opinar en todo aquello que nos afecte y regule nuestras vidas. Hay muchos líderes que están al frente de esta lucha y necesitan de nuestro apoyo.

Your Mortgage is Stealing Your Future By César E. Gamarra

e know that buying our house with a long-term mortgage is the most expensive way to finance it but if we look at it from another point of view, it can also cost a fortune! The U.S. government finally understood that this kind of bad loans, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, government agencies that fund over 90% of purchases in this country, are losing money due to the amount of delinquent loans now days. Obama’s administration proposed the elimination of federal guarantees for loans with the exception of lenders who cannot qualify for a mortgage with a private lender. Without this support the banks have more RISKS which increases the cost of mortgages, causing narrowing of the approvals process, increase the amount of input and interest is the higher. Thus, the classic 30-year loan is not as attractive. Actually, I believe this type of loan has always been bad, it gives people the opportunity to buy a house which would not qualify for the first time extending the re-payment but in turn, paying thousands of extra dollars. This would be a better scenario: pay cash for your house or use a 15-year loan with 10% down and a monthly payment not exceed 25% of what you bring home each month.

Why I say stealing your future? The difference between the loan of 15 and 30 years on a loan of $225,000 is $144,000 during the life of the mortgage. What could you do with $144,000? Pay for the education of a child? Buy a car? Another house maybe? How about investing? If I would once, your money would grow to over $1 million in just 17 years. It would become 2.5 million in 25 years. On the other hand, if you invest the monthly payment on their home after having paid in 15 years, would have about 1 million and your home pay compared to their original goal of just paying the house. Would you be willing to change the opportunity to complete a millionaire with no obligation to live in a house which did not qualify in the first place? Use your head and not your heart when buying their next property. Remember that the desire to live in it can cost you the opportunity to be a millionaire. a sabemos que comprar nuestra casa con una hipoteca a largo plazo es la forma mas costosa de financiarla pero si lo miramos desde otro punto de vista, también nos puede costar ¡una fortuna! El gobierno de los EEUU finalmente entendió que esta clase de prestamos realmente son malos, Fannie Mae y Freddie Mac, las entidades gubernamentales que financian mas del 90% de las compras en este país, están perdiendo dinero debido a la cantidad de prestamos morosos en estos días. La administración de Obama propuso la eliminación de garantías federales para los prestamos a excepción de los prestamistas que no pueden calificar para una hipoteca con un prestamista privado. Sin ese respaldo los bancos tienen mas riesgo lo que incrementa el costo de las hipotecas, haciendo que estrechen el procedimiento de aprobaciones, incremente la cantidad de entrada y el interés sea mas alto. De esta manera,

En realidad, yo pienso que ese tipo de préstamo siempre fue malo, da la oportunidad a personas que compren una casa para la cual no calificarían en primer lugar ampliando el tiempo de re-pago pero a su vez, pagando miles de dólares adicionales. Este seria un mejor escenario: pague por su casa de contado o use un préstamo de 15 años, con un 10% de entrada y un pago mensual que NO exceda el 25% de lo que Ud. trae a su casa cada mes. ¿Porqué digo que roba su futuro? La diferencia entre el préstamo de 15 y el de 30 años en un préstamo de $225,000, son $144,000 durante la vida de la hipoteca. ¿Qué pudiera Ud. hacer con $144,000? ¿Pagar el costo de la educación de un hijo? ¿Comprar un carro? ¿Otra casa tal vez? ¿Qué tal invertirlos? Doral Academy Preparatory expands its facilities

n response to the increase in population over the last couple of years in the City of Doral, and more importantly, in the amount of students exceeding the limits of various local schools, Doral Academy Preparatory School has decided to expand its facilities in an effort to alleviate the situation. This is especially beneficial for the only other public high school in Doral, Ronald Reagan Senior High School. In an exclusive interview with Doral Family Journal, Carlos Ferralls, assistant to Doral Academy High School’s principal Mr. Douglas Rodriguez, gave us a look at the recent expansion projects taken place at the school for the 2011-2012 academic year.

“This is a project that has been under development over the last 5 years… We have counted on the Doral City Council’s support and approval from the start” Carlos Ferralls assured us. At the moment, the construction of this project costs about 4.2 million dollars, which are being financed through loans approved in the school’s budget. From the plans he showed us, the expansion

consists of the construction of a new building of three floors which will house fifth teen new class rooms for a combined capacity of 893 additional students. This new addition will also have two science laboratories, two art labs, a television production studio and more than fifth teen classrooms for different subjects such as mathematics, geometry, etc. Upon the completion of the new building, Farrells told us that the second part of the expansion will take place with the construction of a new gym building equipped with all necessary equipment, weights, lockers, bathrooms, saunas, showers, and more, as well as a floor designed for the School Band’s practices and performances for the start of 2013. A 6 lane, 25 meter pool will constructed adjacent to the gym building to benefit the school’s swimming team. It goes without saying that these expansions will not only help with the overcrowding of high schools, but it will also make Doral Academy stand out as a school equipped to provide the best possible academic experience for our children through both elective subjects and athletic programs. Farrels also added that the most interesting part of the construction is the long-term goal of creating a college next year. “ Our principal Mr. Douglas

Rodriguez has been working with a lot of effort for more than two years for what will be called Doral College, and will be housed inside the High School allowing students who graduate to pursue their undergraduate career within the same facility… We will the only program like it in the nation, this vertical education plan will be our pride”. Farrells indicated that they will start with four basic majors which will be available to the current 10th grade students, as it takes two years for the program to be accredited. These credits will be accepted by any college or university. “ Our vision is to provide the courses just like any other college, will start with 150 students who will be taught by professors who hold either master’s degrees or PHD’s and are up to the standards of teaching at any university or college.” With the vertical system, Farrells assures us that students who enter Doral Academy in elementary will have the opportunity to continue to receive quality education all the way through graduating college.

Contracts and the law Contratos y la ley

ontracts are the backbone of our commercial system. Almost all commercial activities involve a contract. Most contracts are written, however oral contracts are valid as well (subject to certain exceptions). The law looks at a properly formed contract as the parties’ final intention and meeting of the minds. As such, a court will look at the four corners of the document as the parties’ intentions and will seldom if ever change any terms of their agreement. For this reason it is important to negotiate terms that are favorable to one’s position and eliminate any unfavorable terms. An example of an unfavorable term is the personal guaranty. This is seen quite often in lease agreements. The landlord naturally wants to protect his investment and ensure that he receives his rent. To help protect himself, he will almost always ask for a personal guaranty from one of the business owners. If the business fails and the business owner is evicted or abandons the property, then the landlord can seek damages against the business and the personal guarantor. And if the lease was breached early on in the lease term, this can be a substantial amount of money. Another point to keep in mind is that Florida courts have ruled that a landlord is not required to mitigate damages, and is not under obligation to seek another tenant during the litigation (although most landlords seek to re-rent the premises as soon as possible) As you can see the potential liability related to leases is quite high and one should try and eliminate any need for a personal guaranty. Fortunately, today the business owner has a little more leverage due to depressed market conditions. As a result, it is not an impossibility to negotiate away the personal guaranty. Pero, también pueden ser viables contratos orales (hay ciertos contratos que no pueden ser orales), aunque la ley mira a un contrato, formado correctamente, como la última palabra y último acuerdo de las dos partes. O sea, la ley o un juez, difícilmente va cambiar términos reflejados en un contrato. Por estas razones es muy importante tratar de negociar los términos mas beneficiosos que uno pueda y a la misma vez cuidarse de aceptar términos negativos. Ejemplos de términos que puedan afectar a uno negativamente son las garantías personales. Esto se refleja mayormente en contratos de arrendamientos. El dueño de la propiedad naturalmente quiere proteger su inversión, y asegurar que cada mes el va recibir su ingreso de arrendamiento. Para asegurar esto, usualmente pide una garantía personal. Además de la ejecución del contrato por medio de la compañía que va a firmar el “lease”, casi siempre se pide que el que esta firmando como “presidente” de la compañía X, también firme una parte como “personal garantor”. Si ha un punto del contrato, la compañía sufre problemas y no puede pagar el arrendamiento, se le hace una evicción por los estatutos de la Florida. El dueño seguramente procederá contra la compañía y el que firmo en su propio nombre como garantía personal. Como se puede uno imaginar, este puede ser muy costoso si el tiempo que quedaba en el contrato es substancial. Otro punto importante, es que las Cortes de la Florida interpreten la ley en una forma que favorece a un dueño en el sentido, que el dueño no esta bajo ninguna obligación de disminuir sus daños. En otras palabras, no tiene que correr y buscar a otro inquilino para que sus daños no sigan incrementando. Efectivamente puede dejar el espacio vacío y simplemente perseguir el que se fue por los daños que sufre cada mes hasta que se termine el contrato. Obviamente, es prudente tratar de evitar firmar como “personal garantor”. Hoy en día, el inquilino tiene un poco de mas peso que en otros años, y es muy posible que uno pueda lograr que el dueño no requiera la garantía personal. Por lo menos, si el dueño consigue un inquilino y evita un espacio vacío. Si no, puedes estar expuesto a una demanda de bastante dinero.

o many students summer is the time to unwind, catch up on your tan and enjoy the occasional road trip but it’s also a time when students are rushing to find the perfect summer job, yet this so-called perfect job might not exist. Teens get summer jobs in order to save a little extra cash for dinners with friends, movie nights and personal expenses yet most have found that a job actually limits you being in participating in most of these activities. “The reality is that when you get a summer job you’re usually working from 9-5 every day and while you’re saving up money to go with your friends to the beach, you’re missing those days because you’re stuck working” said high school junior Francisco Navas. As if finding a job isn’t hard enough, summer jobs for teens aren’t exactly like what you see in the movies. Miami Dade Parks and Recreation offers positions for teen summer counselors but with locations in specific areas and a camp that requires 8 hour days in hot sunlight running after campers, teens often feel discouraged to even try to apply. “Nobody wants to spend their summer running around a pool chasing kids and getting sunburns” said high school sophomore Rodrigo Forster, who worked at a recreation camp last summer. Summer jobs have proven to be a difficulty, in more aspects than one, for most teens and while some choose to pass up a couple beach days for some extra cash, others will lounge poolside so it’s time for you to decide if you’re part of the working-class or going to take part in a surfing class.

Los adolescentes buscan trabajos de verano para ahorrar un poco de dinero extra para cenas con amigos, noches en el cine y gastos personales pero la mayoría ha encontrado que un trabajo realmente límita que participen en la mayoría de estas actividades. “La realidad es que cuando consigues un trabajo de verano trabajas de 9-5 todos los días y mientras estas ahorrando dinero para ir con tus amigos a la playa, te estás perdiendo los días, porque tienes que ir al trabajo”, dijo Francisco Navas, un estudiante en la escuela secundaria. Como si encontrar un empleo no es suficientemente duro, trabajos de verano para los adolescentes no son exactamente iguales a lo que se ve en las películas. must do everything possible to repair” they state. “This country was founded by immigrants. We do not want the color of skin, or the accent of a person to be the reason for deportation. We must work together every day to solve this problem”. Senator Garcia had his American passport hanging around his neck as a symbol of protest, as he has been doing during the sessions since discussions on the immigration reform in Florida began. “I do it as a sign of the absurd demands of current immigration laws and reform proposals”. Then Luis Gutierrez, the immigration champion of the US Congressmen, born in Chicago of Puerto Rican parents, reminded us that only the union has helped the Hispanic community to effectively pass legislation in the past. Gutierrez acknowledged the need to stop the destruction of thousands of immigrant families and reminds part of President Obama’s campaign speech: “Hundreds of thousands of outstanding students, who are not Americans, love this country as much as they love their nations, and unfairly live under the shadow of a deportation letter.” It is time to take administrative action to stop the destruction of good, hardworking families that do not deserve unfair and brutal deportations, says Gutierrez. And it is hard not to say he is right; the laws must obey the logic. To achieve comprehensive reforms for the immigration laws has been making sense for a long time, and in fact the Department

of Homeland Security gave to the American Government an 11 page document (Majorca’s Memorandum) with administrative alternatives to the immigration reform that could re-humanize the immigration control process. No doubt the message here is that everyone should understand that we cannot politicize the human condition, the compassion or the dignity. The authorities have the duty of implementing the alternatives they have in their hands, and of keeping their promises. Citizens have the duty of voting, consciously and responsibly, acknowledging they are choosing the authorities who will protect or destroy them; and even more important, they have the duty of monitoring the fulfillment of the campaign promises in which they believe. There is no time to rest; this is every immigrant’s fight; this is not a matter of Cubans, Hondurans, Venezuelans, Ecuadorians, Peruvians, or Colombians, but a matter of human beings! When an immigrant is attacked,

all of them are also being attacked! Compassion should begin with ourselves, for only united the voices of a group can have an echo.

Chino y Nacho con María Sabatella

ace unos días, entrevistamos a Jesús Alberto Miranda y Miguel Ignacio Mendoza del dúo venezolano, Chino y Nacho. Les preguntamos sobre los proyectos de futuro y compartieron con nosotros, todo acerca de su nuevo álbum titulado “Supremo” que saldrá a la venta en agosto de 2011. El álbum contendrá alrededor de 12 canciones al igual que su estilo de música pasado. “Las canciones serán muy tropical con sonidos futuristas electrónicos”, comento Chino. También se les preguntó acerca de sus metas, “Los objetivos están siempre en la mente y en el corazón de cada persona.” Mencionó Nacho. “Creo que ni la situación económica o social debe perjudicar a ninguna persona que tenga un sueño bien marcado. Ahora lo bueno es que hemos influido muchísimo a los jóvenes que están haciendo música en Venezuela, que antes no creían tener la posibilidad”. Ahora están planeando un concierto en Miami que será anunciado próximamente. El concierto tendrá lugar en julio de 2011. También planean tener un concierto en La Covacha localizada en el Doral. Durante estos próximos meses estarán viajando a Puerto Rico, Honduras, Colombia, diferentes partes de los EE.UU. como Chicago, Orlando, Texas, Houston, Los Ángeles, y durante todo el mes de agosto, realizarán una gira por distintas ciudades de México. El dúo esta nominado para Premios Juventud en la categoría de Video Musical Favorito, por su exitosa canción “Tu Angelito”, quienes también tendrán una actuación especial en la ceremonia de premiación que tendrá lugar el 21 de julio 2011 en la ciudad de Miami.

ome days ago, we interview the famous Venezuelan duo, Chino y Nacho. Jesús Alberto Miranda (Chino) and Miguel Ignacio Mendoza (Nacho). We asked them about future projects. They shared with us that their new album titled “Supremo” will be coming out August 2011. The album will contain around 12 songs just like their past music style. “The songs will be very tropical with futuristic electronic sounds”, commented Chino. We also asked them about their goals, “The goals are always in mind and in the heart of every single person.” mentioned Nacho. I believe neither economic nor social situations should damage any person who has a dream well marked. Right now the good thing is we have influenced a lot of young people who are making music in Venezuela that did not believe in the possibility. Right now they are planning a concert to be announced in Miami. The concert would take place on July 2011. Also they are planning to have a concert at The Cove located in Doral. During these months they will be traveling to Puerto Rico, Honduras, Colombia, different parts of the U.S. such as Chicago, Orlando, Texas, Houston, Los Angeles, and throughout the month of August they will be touring around different parts of Mexico. They duo has one nomination for Latin Awards, Premios Juventud for the category of Favorite Music Video, for their hit song “Tu Angelito”. They will also have a special performance at the award ceremony, which will take place July 21, 2011 in Miami.

Mold on the outside or exterior can stick to our clothes, shoes, bags, and our animals this way going into our homes, sometimes we can get these items as harmful to our health in our home. Mold tends to grow in places of high humidity such as near places where there may be leaks. We would have to review our ceilings, walls, windows, plumbing. If, for example, in times of hurricanes or hurricane seasons of heavy rainfall or where there has been flooding where the humidity can therefore grow. Mold grows well on paper products, cardboard, ceiling tiles as well as wood products. Mold can also grow in dust, paint, wallpaper walls, insulation, walls, carpets, upholstery fabrics and furniture. Tips to prevent mold: Let’s assume that there are places in your home where mold growing, what you need to do is clean the area and solve the moisture problem. Mold growth can be removed from the hard work surfaces with commercial products such as soap and water or with a prepared bleach solution with a mixture of not more than one cup of bleach to one gallon of water. Mold growth, usually is a set of patches, which can be of different colors and which in turn may

have a typical smell of humidity. If you can see or smell mold, then your family may have risk to their health, you must remove the mold as the effects of mold can variably affect people exposed to it. The best is to remove the mold and take steps to prevent recurrence. • Maintain moisture levels in your home between 40-60%. Use air conditioning dehumidifier during the months of higher humidity and in damp places, like basements. • Make sure your house is well ventilated. Use the air vents to the exterior, in the kitchen and the bathroom. Make sure the respiratory of his clothes dryer vents to the outside of your house. • Repair any leaks in roofs, walls or pipes in your home so that mold does not have an environment of moisture to grow. • Thoroughly clean and dry your home as quickly as possible in case found a flood for weather reasons or breakage of a pipe inside your home. • Clean bathrooms with specific products for mold kill or inhibit their growth. • Before painting your home add to the paint you are using, mold inhibitors. • Remove or replace the rugs and carpets of furniture that have been soaked and can not dry quickly.Think about the possibility of not using carpet in rooms or areas such as bathrooms or basements as these can have high humidity and be conducive to mold growth.

El moho en el aire libre o exterior puede pegarse a nuestra ropa, los zapatos, los bolsos, a nuestros animales y así de estas manera pueden entrar en nuestra casa , a veces no pensamos como pueden entrar esos elementos nocivos para nuestra salud adentro de la casa. El moho tiende a crecer en lugares de mucha humedad, como cerca de lugares donde pueda haber goteras. Tendríamos que revisar nuestro techos, paredes, ventanas, plomerías. Si por ejemplo, en época de temporadas ciclónicas o de huracanas o de lluvia copiosa donde haya habido inundaciones donde la humedad pueda aumentar por ende el moho crece fácilmente en productos de papel, de cartón, en las tejas del techo así como en productos de madera. El moho también puede crecer en el polvo, las pinturas, el tapiz de las paredes, los materiales aislantes, los muros, las alfombras, las telas y los tapices de los muebles.

Hurricane season begins Wednesday June 1, 2011

ednesday June 1, 2011 marks the beginning of the hurricane season until November 30, 2011.And whether you’re new to the area or a seasoned local, it’s always best to be prepared. That’s why the MiamiDade County is urging residents to begin planning and preparing for the 2011 Atlantic hurricane season now. Tropical storm systems can reach sustained winds of up to 39 mph. If they become hurricanes, winds can reach some 74 mph and increase to a major storm with winds of up to 111 mph. Where would your family go in the event a hurricane struck the region? Do you know where the nearest evacuation route is? Have you thought about what you’d take with you? Would your house be able to withstand winds of up to 111 mph? What if you plan on sticking around when a storm strikes? Do you have enough water and non-perishable food items, etc.? These are all things to start thinking about now as we head into another Atlantic hurricane season. The Miami-Dade County urges residents to follow these guidelines: • Now is the time to begin clearing your home and yard of trash and trim your trees to prevent objects from becoming gangerous projectiles during a hurricane. • Stay informed: The public should monitor the progress and strength of the storm through newspapers, the internet, and local television and radio stations. • Evacuate as necessary: Mandatory evacuation orders should be obeyed. The personnel emergency responders may not be able to evacuate people in danger during a storm. • If you own a boat, use double lines at a marina or consider dry-dock storage. • Cover windows and remove any tables, chairs and more from the exterior of your home. Protect the areas where wind can enter. Secure windows and doors, preferably with permanent, County-approved storm shutters. A second option is to board up windows with 5/8” plywood, cut to fit and ready to install. Tape does NOT prevent windows from breaking. • Visit www.miamidade.gov or call 3-1-1 for updates on County services. Depending on conditions, bus, rail, garbage collection and recycling service, as well as airport and seaport operations, could be affected. This hurricane season, don’t wait. Make a plan. Today’s Fathers ...

ince the birth of his two sons, Michel, his father, has changed their diaper, give them baths and made them sleep. Today, with two and three years, one and one is constantly vying for their “Daddy.” They want help to get dress, eat and participate in their games. The “good father” has long been the father who ensured everything for the home, and his paper was summarized by a simple “buyer.” The father worked very hard for both did not lack anything that he did not have enough time for the children . Today many parents have managed to overcome these traditions, they share the joy in parenting and talk about “a new dimension to family life.” Despite the criticisms of those who seek to maintain the taboo that the father should not be involved emotionally with the child, each day more fathers are present since the birth of their child.

And the father, no doubt, is as important as the mother. The father gives security and confidence for the future, sets limits on children’s behavior and closes the circle of love that should surround the child. The father provides a unique and essential element in raising the child and his influence is powerful emotional health. The mother says, “careful” and the father says “one more” and encourages the child to climb another step to reach the top. Todays father opens to the most subtle of the child: the emotional and psychological. He does not stop at the periphery, but knows the child closely. He guides without aggression, strongly motivated and reasoned, by the way he wants them to inherit values. Today has been given permission to see with eyes of love to shoot out of his heart. Warns the child, beyond the present limitations, the wealth of possibilities that is to be done. Beside the father of today enjoys each step of development. And so, today’s father breaks the myth that father is either. That’s why our newspaper, close to a date as important as father’s day we wish to convey a special congratulations to all father’s in the world, and double congratulations to those parents and children on that day will not be home to celebrate together, because they ensure our well being and safety and also to those who lost their lives doing their duty, and remember that this situation, challenges the instinct of parenthood and becomes impossible when you are thousands of miles from home. To all of them thanks and congratulations!

esde que nacieron sus dos hijos, Michel, su padre, lo mismo les cambiaba el pañal que los bañaba o dormía. Hoy, con dos y tres años, uno y otra se disputan constantemente a su “papito”. Quieren que los ayude a vestirse, a comer y que participe de sus juegos. El “buen padre” fue por mucho tiempo el padre que lo garantizaba todo para el hogar, y su papel se resumía al de un simple “proveedor”. El padre trabajaba tanto para que no le faltara nada a los hijos que no tenían tiempo para ellos. Pero hoy muchos padres han logrado vencer esas tradiciones, comparten el gozo en la crianza de los hijos y hablan de “una nueva dimensión en la convivencia familiar”. A pesar de los reproches de quienes pretenden mantener el tabú de que el padre no debe involucrarse emocionalmente con el hijo, cada día son más los padres presentes desde el nacimiento de sus hijos. Y el padre, no lo dude, es tan importante como la madre. El padre da seguridad, confianza en el porvenir, establece los límites de la conducta infantil y cierra el círculo del amor que debe rodear al niño. El padre proporciona un elemento único y esencial en la crianza del hijo y su influencia es poderosa en la salud emocional. La madre le dice: “con cuidado”, y el padre le dice “uno más” y así estimula al pequeño a subir otro peldaño para que llegue a la cima. El padre de hoy se abre a las necesidades más sutiles del hijo: las emocionales y las psíquicas. No se detiene en la periferia, sino que conoce al hijo de cerca. Lo guía sin agresividad, con firmeza motivada y razonada, por el camino de los valores que desea heredarle. Hoy se ha dado permiso para ver con ojos de amor al retoño de sus entrañas. Advierte en el hijo, más allá de las limitaciones presentes, el cúmulo de posibilidades que está por realizar. A su lado el padre de hoy goza cada peldaño de su desarrollo. Y así, el padre de hoy rompe el mito de que padre es cualquiera. Es por eso que nuestro periódico al acercarse una fecha tan importante como la es el día de los padres queremos hacerles llegar una felicitación especial a todos los padres del mundo,y una felicitación doble a aquellos padres e hijos que ese día no estarán en casa para celebrar juntos, porque están velando por nuestro bienestar y seguridad, así también a aquellos que perdieron su vida cumpliendo con su deber, y recordar que esta situación, desafía el instinto de la paternidad y que se vuelve imposible cuando se encuentran a miles de millas del hogar. s they get ready for their grand finale, the Miami Music Project Orchestral Academy (MMPOA) celebrates a first season full of success and great music. What started, only seven months ago, as a small orchestra of 15 young musicians has grown into a strong program with over 150 children who practice music, free of charge, every week in Doral. The Miami Music Project (MMP) is a non-profit organization that uses music as an instrument for social transformation, empowering children to acquire values and achieve their full potential, positively affecting their society through the study and performance of music. Through their programs, the Miami Music Project first ignites the passion for music by reaching out to children in their schools and communities through inspiring live performances and open invitations to join the organization’s music programs. Then they provide multiple levels of music instruction and orchestral activities to children, ages 4 and up, free of charge, through their Orchestral Academy and Honors Orchestra. Finally they create unique opportunities so that performing becomes a natural part of the children’s musical life while bringing the joy of music to the community. MMPOA’s program, under the direction of Susan Siman, is inspired by the “El Sistema” philosophy, created over 35 years ago in Venezuela. El Sistema has changed over 300,000 lives of children, mostly from underprivileged areas, who are involved in music in many different ways. Siman, one of the founders of El Sistema and now a resident of Doral, has spent more than 25 years forming young musicians, including Gustavo Dudamel and Diego Mateus, and now continues with her commitment to transform children’s lives through music in Miami. “At the Miami Music Project we’re committed to social development through music education and community engagement. every child’s self-esteem and sense of value.” Since its inception, the first chapter of the MMPOA, in Doral, has performed in more than 10 concerts, including the Family Fest at the Arsht Center, the International Orchestra for Peace in Italy and the 70th Ramble a Garden Festival at the Fairchild Gardens. They will be closing their 2010-11 Season with a concert at the Doral Middle School on Friday, June 10 at 7:00pm. According to Emil Stefanutti, a member of the board of MMP, “we use music to develop values of community, sharing and teamwork while improving the children’s creativity, discipline, perseverance and self-esteem”, then he added, “we strive to inspire children to reach excellence through their own efforts, to improve their performance at school and to strengthen the unity of their families”. Desde su comienzo, el primer núcleo del MMPOA en Doral se ha presentado en más de diez conciertos, incluyendo el Family Fest en el Arsht Center, la Orquesta Internacional por la Paz en Italia y el 70º Festival Ramble a Garden en los Fairchild Gardens. Estarán culminando esta temporada 2010-11 con un concierto en el Doral Middle School el viernes 10 de Junio a las 7:00pm. But soon, the need for capturing new heights in the field of technology to make lives easier, made companies to come up with the innovative idea of laptops. These could be carried and used anywhere you like, unlike the desktops. The demand for desktops came down where as it went high for laptops. But in the present day world, laptops are also on the verge of being sidelined due to the introduction of iPads and other modern gadgets. These are lighter, stylish and faster when compared to old devices. But laptop manufacturing companies are not backing out from the race and are still trying to design and introduce the next level of designs in laptops. They are to be introduced in more stylish, faster and thinner versions! The launch of the latest technology processors and Microsoft’s decision to use Windows OS on those processors are posing a new challenge to the laptop manufacturers. To keep up with the new trend in the market and to maintain the popularity of laptops, vendors are trying to make modern and thinner laptops (with fast processors) instead of heavy laptops, which people use these days. Mores importance will be thrust on the battery life as well. By 2013, laptops might also get a battery life of 12 to 24 hours! New laptop designs will definitely be influenced by the low-voltage chips that are used while manufacturing. High speed processors with these highly efficient chips will make a big difference to laptop designs. PC designs don’t have to be made thicker in order to solve thermal problems and memory problems can also be resolved in thinner laptops. These new designs in laptops can be a challenge to the Apple’s McBook. Laptops might be priced less because of the competition. The next changing phase in laptops designs is to do with OS. Some time back experts felt, only one OS can be used in PCs but with HP using two OS -web OS for mobiles gadgets and another to connect to a Windows PC – have opened up a new arena. When this becomes popular, more devices can be cross-connected like this. This is helpful in running Web OS in smartphones, laptops and all kinds of tablets. anielle Rodas, a young resident of Doral, who is supported by her parents, never gives up on her dreams of becoming a great dancer.

When she was asked if there was something or someone who had inspired her to dance, she mentioned her dance instructor, Susie García ... “She made me who I am today and I am very grateful for it,” said Danielle. “Thanks to her classes I discovered dance as a profession and not just as an expression of my feelings as I hear any melody that motivates me to dance.” At 18 years old with a great charisma and personality, just graduated from Ronald Reagan / Doral Senior High School, she assures her main goal since childhood has been to become a great dancer, for she enjoys every dance she performs, from ballet to hip hop, since that is her passion. She tells us that she looks forward moving to Los Angeles to develop dance techniques and continue her career. “Honestly I am very happy to have accomplished so much at such a young age, and the doors that have opened, but this is just the beginning. I am very grateful to all the people with whom I’ve worked,” she commented. “For me, dancing is the best way I have to project who I am and how I feel, my best platform to communicate through movements an idea, story or feeling ... this is my escape, my passion, and what better way to express my emotions and feelings through my body ...my instrument.” In her spare time Danielle enjoys listening to music and hanging out with friends, dancing and singing. Danielle Rodas, is distinguished for having won several dance competitions and appearing in different Latin Award choreographies such as “Premio Lo Nuestro” and “Premios Juventud”, as well as various shows like “Sal y Pimienta” and “Sabado Gigante”, etc. She has also appeared in several dance magazines and performed dancing in the telenovela “Aurora”. This girl is now one of the great people among us in the city of Doral. Now that she has completed her studies, says she is getting prepared for more auditions and to continue projects: “I’m ready to see what’s next.”

Entre ellos, destacamos a Git Fresh, Range, Angel & Khris, Santa Fe, Maor, Pee Wee, David Bisbal, Omega, Fuego, Gloria Trevi, Dyland Y Lenny, Chino Y Nacho. Esta guapísima chica que representa una gran satisfacción para su familia, nos comentó que seguirá luchando por ser una gran bailarina. Cuando le preguntamos, si había algo alguien que la hubiera inspirado a bailar, enseguida recordó a su maestra de baile, Susie García… “Ella me hizo lo que soy hoy en día y estoy muy agradecida por ello”, comentó. “Gracias a sus clases descubrí el baile como una profesión y no solo como una expresión de mi sentir al escuchar alguna melodía que me motivaba a bailar”. A sus 18 años de edad, con un gran carisma y personalidad, acaba de graduarse en el Ronald Reagan/Doral Senior High School, y asegura que su principal objetivo desde niña ha sido convertirse en una muy buena bailarina, por lo que disfruta cada baile que realiza,desde ballet hasta hip hop, ya que esa es su gran pasión. Nos cuenta que entre sus proyecciones a futuro, espera trasladarse a Los Angeles, para desarrollar sus técnicas de baile y continuar su carrera. “Sinceramente me siento muy feliz de haber logrado tanto a tan temprana edad, y por las puertas que se me han abierto; pero esto es sólo el comienzo. Estoy muy agradecida con toda la gente con la que he trabajado” dice la muy emocionada joven. “Para mi el baile es la mejor manera que tengo de proyectar quien soy y como siento, mi mejor plataforma para comunicar a través del movimiento una idea, historia o sentimiento… ese es mi escape, mi pasión, y qué mejor manera de expresar mis emociones y sentimientos que a través de mi cuerpo … mi instrumento”. En sus ratos libres a Danielle le gusta escuchar música y salir con sus amigos a bailar y cantar. Danielle Rodas, se distingue por haber ganado varias competencias de baile y de aparecer en diferentes coreografías de premios latinos, tales como “Premio Lo Nuestro”, y “Premios Juventud”, así como en distintos espectáculos para “Sal y Pimienta” y “Sábado Gigante”, etc. También ha estado en diferentes revistas de danza y realizó el baile en la telenovela “Aurora”.Esta joven forma parte de las grandes personas que se destacan en la ciudad de Doral. Ahora que ha culminado sus estudios, dice estar preparandose para mas audiciones y para seguir proyectandose: “ Estoy lista para ver lo que se viene” .

raveling with pets is a growing trend. It is not something that should be taken too lightly, but it can be done with minimal setbacks if the proper steps to ensure every furry friend’s safety and health are taken. Pets going on vacation is an increasingly common affair, as many pet owners have decided that their furry friend deserves a summer vacation as much as they do, and shouldn’t be left behind in a kennel while they are off lounging on a beach or taking in the mountain air. Another reason that people are traveling more and more with their animals is that it is economical. The hotel fee may be cheaper than the total bill at the kennel. Keep in mind that traveling with pets does have expenses, as you have to pay for its separate airline ticket and hotel stay. With crates, air and hotel surcharges, toys, extra food, unexpected vet bills away from home, and more, traveling with your pet can add up. All that is something to think about. You must weigh the pros and the cons; the best advice is just to know what is involved. Many vets caution against using any tranquilizers or sedatives prior to an animal traveling by plane, but if still necessary, papers stating that the pet has been given such medications should be secured to the crate before flying. Get a current health certificate from your veterinarian before traveling. You never know the quality of the drinking water when you are traveling, so it’s a good idea to take a container of water from your home that your pets are accustomed to, or use bottled water. Be sure to have I.D tags for your pet with your cell phone as the contact number. Traveling with pets is an art. A pet owner needs to practice in order to perfect it; it is becoming as commonplace as traveling with children. Traveling with pets is one experience you will definitely enjoy, but of course, you must see to it that all preparations are done ahead of time to make traveling a breeze.

More than 700 elite athletes are expected to compete at the Judo World Cup 2011 in Doral

SA Judo, the National Governing Body for the Sports of Judo in the United States, has announced that the Judo World Cup 2011 will be held July 1st – 2nd at the Doral Golf Resort & Spa in Doral. For the second consecutive year, more than 700 athletes will converge at the Doral Golf Resort & Spa to participate in the competition. Some of the participating countries include Korea, France, Australia, England, Brazil, Turkey, Spain and the United States. So far, 54 countries have confirmed their presence at the event. Just over a year away from the Olympic Games of 2012, the City of Doral will host one of the main events of the International Judo Federation. The Judo World Cup, an internationally recognized competition, will bring together elite athletes from five continents who not only will be competing for their gold medals but also will be competing with one goal in their minds, which is to qualify for the Olympics in London 2012.

Salon at the Doral Golf Resort & Spa, the Judo U.S. Open with the same athletes who participated in the Judo World Cup plus more than 200 elite judokas facing off once again. The Judo World Cup will be televised nationwide on July 15th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. (EST) thanks to an agreement between the United States Olympic Committee (USOC) and the sports network Versus. The Sport of Judo is a sport included in the Olympics for the first time in the 1964 Olympics Games in Tokyo. In 1988 at Seoul Olympic Games, women’s categories were presented, and finally, in the 1992 Barcelona Olympics Games, women’s categories became an official sport. Judo, ironically, means “light” or “delicate” and is derived from the Japanese jiu-jitsu by the founder of Judo, Jigoro Kano. The sport of Judo not only is a system of self-defense but also a physical and mental discipline. USA Judo is the national Governing Body for Judo in the United States and is a member of the United States Olympic Committee, the Pan American Judo Confederation and the International Judo Federation. USA Judo has overall authority to govern all aspects of amateur Judo in the United States and works to select and prepare American teams for international competitions.

Kayla Harrison is expected to compete at the Judo World Cup 2011 in Miami. Harrison, who trains under two-time Olympic bronze medalist Jimmy Pedro in Massachusetts, is one of USA Judo best shot at a gold medal in the upcoming Olympics. Kayla took gold medal at the World Championships in Tokyo in 2010; many feel that a win there is just as good as winning the Olympic medal. Kayla has also won the gold medal for the US at the Pan American Championships held in the city of Guadalajara, Mexico earlier this year. “This Judo World Cup will not only be a great economic stimulus to the City of Doral and the County, but it will provide an opportunity to the youth of the community to watch the best Olympians compete right in their own backyard. l día 30 de Abril comenzó el campeonato de verano Rotax Challenge en el Kartodromo de Homestead una pista bastante técnica y rápida donde despliegan sus habilidades los pilotos mas destacados de la Florida que en realidad son los pilotos mas destacados de toda la Costa Este de Estados Unidos, asi lo demuestran sus resultados en todos los campeonatos regionales y nacionales. Siendo esta disciplina la primera etapa para los pilotos profesionales en las distintas categorías del automovilismo nacional e internacionales es muy entretenido e interesante para los amantes del deporte motor seguir las carreras y conocer desde los mas pequeños hasta los pilotos del futuro. Este primer evento se desarrollo sin ningún tipo de incidente y al mas alto nivel conductivo como siempre siendo las categorías de niños las más interesantes de observar. El evento se divide en tres etapas: Clasificación, y dos carreras (un pre-final y una final) Las categorías son MicroMAx MiniMAx Rotax Junio Rotax Master Rotax Senior El piloto del Doral, Augusto Soto-Schirripa, dio una vez mas muestra de su gran talento debutando en la categoría Minimax en donde la competencia es tan cerrada que las diferencias entre un karting y otro es de décimas de segundos. Augusto mantuvo durante todo el evento un ritmo y una consistencia impecable que lo llevaron a adjudicarse el segundo puesto en la carrera final. Como madre de 3 niños es muy importante para mí que haya un lugar donde ellos puedan jugar y yo pueda tener confianza de que están en un área segura y a ellos les encanta que hay tantas cosas que hacer. Morgan Levy empezó como un parque que de verdad no tenía nada y le faltaba vida pero desde que lo remodelaron es uno de los lugares más lindos del Doral.

onaco 2011 the most glamorous race. The grand prix where the driver is the great equalizer, the race where the precision and concentration of drivers provide the key to succeed, a race where accidents happen in a fraction of seconds, the race that all drivers want to win to become legends. Champions that wrote their own histories in F1 Airton Senna, Alain Prost and Michael Shumacher always remember the Monaco race as a race that consolidates a real champion. Today for the first time, the champion Sevastian Vettel has won in Monaco, making a name for him and writing his name as a legend in Montecarlo. From pole Sevastien Vettel the champion with his Red Bull became the protagonist of the third red flag race in the history of Formula 1. The race start clean with no issues or accidents, the running order was the same except for Fernando Alonso’s that made a stunning start overtaking Webber to take the third place of the race, Vettel and Botton first and second but in the back, the other positions were very tied the Venezuelan rookie, Pastor Maldonado shows off his real skills keeping the eight place and Lewis Hamilton pushing very hard to gain places, with that scenario dominated by Red Bull, McLaren and Ferrari we get to the first pit stop, Vettel time on the pits was a bit of slow but Button came first with the soft tires and he start pulling a nice gap, Alonso was taking a good care of his tires keeping his third place in the back of the pack Felipe Massa and Hamilton had a very hard fight, at the end Hamilton makes a very risky move on Felipe causing damage to the Brazilian’s Ferrari, The situation ended up in the tunnel putting Massa out of the race, the incident went under investigation by the stewards and brought the yellow flag. On the other hand we had Petrov and Maldonado fighting the eight place, the Venezuelan was showing that he came to the F1 not

only with a big checking account that belongs to his government, but also to show that he was capable of taking his team to a save port, and score points for the very first time this year. The second pit stop made the difference in the race, Vettel recovered the lead, Alonso took the second stand and, Button was left in third. In that order with not much changes in the middle positions we get to the final stage of the race, Vettel, Alonso, and Button found big traffic in the front, and the unexpected happened, a big accident took place in the pool corner involving 3 cars, the top 3 guys managed the crash and passed through with no incidents, but for the third time in F1 the accident brought the red flag that stop the race and allowed the teams to change tires and repair mechanical failures, one lap before the accident Alonso was catching up to Vettel with 18 laps less on his tires compare to the German champion, by that moment I was predicting an exciting final for the race. During the red flag Vettel saved his first place with a set of fresh tires. We had a restart on the race with 6 laps left to the end and another incident involving the aggressive maneuver of Lewis Hamilton, killing Pastor Maldonados chances of scoring points in Monaco. First place for Sevastian Vettel, Second for Fernando Alonso, and Janson Button in third to complete the Podium in Montecarlo After the race finished the stewards awarded a 20 seconds penalty to Hamilton for an aggressive maneuver against Pastor Maldonado. After the race Hamilton said that he thinks that the stewards awarded this penalty to him because he is black. In my personal opinion, I believe that the stewards were right in their decision because it was not space to overtake in the first corner.

2011 SEASON VIEW From the beginning of the season starting in Australia Red Bull and Sebastian Vettel dominate the 2011 edition of Formula 1, Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button with McLaren are hunting Vettels position. Mark Webber in the other Red Bull is looking for improvement and results that hold his sit in the team, Ferrari and Fernando Alonso are not happy with the F 150 Italia, the results are not what they excepted but they have the capacity to improve the car, Renault had a good start of the season and they should be strong in all races because they’ve made some good improvements on this year car. The team that is very disappointing is Williams, with only 2 points scored this year and so many different changes on the team the reliability of the car is not the expected. Autralia and Malasia were dominated by Vettel and Red Bull .In China Lewis Hamilton and his Maclaren took the victory and Turkey was a perfect place for Vettel to show that the domination was in place for Red Bull Spain, and Today in Monaco Vettel looks to be on the road of his second championship. Is very early to predict the winner of the season but I have to recognize that Vettel and Red Bull look unbeatable. de manera que así llegaríamos a la ultima parte de la carrera donde Alonso comienza a recortar distancias entre él y Vettel, pero con neumáticos 18 vueltas mas jóvenes que los de Sebastián. Así se consiguen con el tráfico de rezagados y lo inesperado ocurre; un accidente múltiple delante de ellos en la curva de la piscina y el cual logran pasar sin sufrir daños… En la aparición de la bandera roja que por tercera vez en la Formula 1 es decretada por los comisarios de la pista. Durante la bandera roja se permite trabajar los bólidos, de manera tal que el campeón de Red Bull aprovecha y cambia de neumáticos, lo cual al final haría la diferencia que consolidaría la Victoria de Vettel. Luego de la reanudación de la carrera, transcurrirían 6 vueltas en el mismo orden pero de nuevo lo Inesperado; Hamilton acaba con las aspiraciones de Maldonado y lo envía contra el muro. Cabe destacar que luego de este incidente Hamilton recibiría 20 segundos de sanción por parte de los comisarios que consideraron su maniobra extremadamente agresiva. Primer lugar para Vettel, Segundo para Alonso y tercero para Button.

ónaco 2011, la carrera mas glamorosa de la Formula 1, el gran premio donde el piloto hace la diferencia, donde la precisión y la concentración son la clave del éxito, una carrera donde los accidentes ocurren en una fracción de segundo,… la carrera que todos los pilotos quisieran ganar para convertirse en leyendas. Los campeones que escribieron sus propias historias en Formula 1 como Airton Senna, Alain Prost y Michael Shumacher siempre recordaron a Mónaco como la carrera que consolida a los verdaderos campeones. Hoy por primera vez el actual campeón Sebastian Vettel gana en Mónaco, dejando su nombre escrito en las calles del principado y convirtiéndose en una leyenda. Desde la pole en Campeón de Red Bull seria protagonista de una de la tercera bandera roja que se decreta en la historia de la Formula 1. La largada se da bastante limpia no ocurren accidentes, se mantiene el mismo orden de la partida con la excepción de Fernando Alonso que logra pasar a Weber y colocarse tercero detrás de Button. Vettel lidera, Button le sigue y Fernando es tercero, por el otro lado los que luchan posiciones intermedias están muy pegados, el novato venezolano, Pastor Maldonado demuestra sus habilidades al volante de su Williams manteniendo la octava posición, Lewis Hamilton que ataca muy fuerte supera algunas posiciones. Con este escenario pasamos a la primera parada en los pits donde Vettel se retrasaría un poco y Button le superaría tomando la primera posición de la carrera, Alonso se mantendría tercero. Al salir de los pits, Button tomaría una buena ventaja sobre Vettel y Alonso que desde el tercer puesto intentaría cuidar sus neumáticos. Cabe destacar que Hamilton Y Felipe Massa despliegan una lucha intensa la cual termina en una colisión causada por Lewis que dañaría el Ferrari de Massa y acabaría en el túnel dejando a Felipe fuera de la carrera. Este incidente nos llevaría a la bandera amarilla y la salida del auto de seguridad que estaría afuera por un lapso de 5 vueltas; Se reanuda la carrera y el venezolano Maldonado continua peleando la octava posición con Petrov, demostrando que no solamente llega a la Formula 1 con una chequera amplia que pertenece a su gobierno si no con las condiciones necesarias para hacer una buena carrera. En la delantera con la segunda entrada a pits, Vettel logra recuperar el primer puesto, Alonso avanza al Segundo y Button cae al tercer puesto,… el las posiciones intermedias no habrían muchos cambios ni incidentes,

he United States Constitution gives all American citizenships the “right to vote” and the privilege to elect the public officials to represent them at all levels of federal, state and local government. It is also important for every citizen to know that the eligibility to vote in the US is determined by both Federal and state law. Also, several amendments to the Constitution guarantee the right to vote by its citizens and different groups of citizens and these amendments state that the voting rights cannot be denied or abridged based on religion, race, color, age, sex or even for failure paying taxes. Yet, when it comes to the voting participation of Americans of Faith in political elections and in the political process we need to recognize that a great number of Americans of Faith are disconnected with the importance and value of their votes. Some citizens think that a single vote cannot make any difference on the outcome of elections and this is a wrong assumption because it is our responsibility to vote and to be counted. Here is where NAFAPAC comes into the scene to educate and to alert Americans of Faith on the importance to participate. Many Christians complaint that the country is going on the wrong direction, the economy is bad and the federal government and Federal Courts are ruling in favor of abortion, same sex marriage and against praying in schools. Well, Americans of Faith, stop complaining because in most cases we are the root of the problems for not electing the right candidates to public office to represent us, or for not voting at all when the elections come around. It is time for Americans of Faith to take an active role. There is also a fact that some Pastors and Monsignors oppose to take part in “politics” and prefer to play a neutral role. Their position is that, if the government should ever become oppressive and seek to prevent the church from worshiping God, then they will simply resist the government and accept whatever consequences come their way. This is also wrong. It is conceding defeat to the enemy and it is not

what the Lord wants from us. In general, Christians of all denominations are conservatives, pro-life, against abortion; strong supporters of the institution of marriage between one man and one woman attend church regularly and support One Nation under God. In the 2008 Presidential Elections there was a lower voter participation of Christians of all denomination and those casting their votes deviated from previous conservative trends and voted for more liberal candidates.

In Mathew 5:14-16, Jesus said, “You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.” This message is clear; we must be courageous and take the lead protecting what we have, to be visible with light, to be heard and to shine on the hill before men. How can we document these concerns? If we go back to the statistics of previous elections we noticed a tends where Christians, in particular, are not voting based on their Christian convictions and values, and voting based on the charisma, great speeches or the physical look and youth of the candidates. Many voted for simple fanaticism or because they relate to the color of the skin of the candidates. These are not good reasons to vote for a candidate. Americans of Faith need to be more inquisitive and educated of the candidate’s convictions and only vote for those sharing our Christian values. In the 2008 Presidential Elections only 54% of Protestants/Evangelicals and 45% of Catholics voted for candidates supporting these values.

NAFAPAC’s vision is to take an active role in politics by watching government activities and new laws affecting all Americans of Faith. NAFAPAC’s message to all Americans of Faith is that, “We can change the direction of this nation with our votes by electing our representatives based on their political views, their Christian values and their commitment to stop the Federal government and Federal Courts from changing or limiting the way we practice our faith.” NAFAPAC’s goal is to reach Christians of all denomination and congregations nationwide to provide information on candidates and issues. The following are some of our goals : • Engage Pastors and Monsignors on an education and awareness campaign at all churches. • Provide literature on the issues affecting Americans of Faith. • Create a database of emails for alerts and publication of articles on varies topics.Educate Americans of Faith before going to the voting places so they can vote intelligently. • Distribute voter’s guides with the position of candidates on issues affecting Americans of Faith. • Host candidate forum and invite members of churches to participate and learn the position of candidates on the issues. We all have tremendous responsibilities PROTECTING OUR FAITH WITH OUR VOTES. This can be expressed in terms of how we elect the right leaders to represent us at all levels of government. If we unite on a common cause, we can achieve these goals. Si todos nos unimos en una causa común, lograremos nuestros objetivos.

Proteger nuestra fe con nuestros votos posición neutral. Pero, ¿que sucedería si algún día nuestro gobierno se convierte en un gobierno opresor o una dictadura y nos prohíben practicar nuestra fe libremente adorando y exaltando a nuestro Dios? Muchos Americanos de Fe han escapado de sus países de origen porque sus derechos civiles y el derecho a practicar su fe libremente fueron oprimidos o prohibidos? En muchos casos, la postura de estos lideres es que, si el gobierno algún día se convertirse en opresores o trate de prohibir que los cristianos practiquen su fe y adoren a Dios, entonces simplemente se resistirían en aceptar la posición del gobierno y aceptarían las consecuencias que se enfrenten en el paso. Esto también es erróneo. Esta actitud significa aceptar la derrota cediendo al enemigo y no es lo que el Señor quiere de nosotros. El Señor quiere que seamos un pueblo libre, sabio y astuto, un pueblo con sabiduría. “Nuestras libertades fueron otorgadas por Dios y nadie tiene el derecho de prohibirlas” En general, los cristianos de todas las denominaciones son conservadores, pro-vida, están en contra del aborto, son firmes defensores de la institución del matrimonio entre un hombre y una mujer, atienden a la iglesia regularmente y apoyan una nación bajo la cobertura de Dios. En las Elecciones Generales del 2008 hubo una baja en el número de votantes cristianos de todas las denominaciones participando en las elecciones y un gran número votaron a favor de candidatos liberales, progresistas, con poca experiencia política o por el carisma de candidatos y no investigaron la ideología política de los candidatos. ¿Cómo podemos documentar estas preocupaciones? Si revisamos las estadísticas de varias elecciones anteriores nos damos cuenta de una tendencia donde los Americanos de Fe, en particular, no están votando basado en sus convicciones y valores cristianos, y votaron basado en el carisma o por los grandes discursos de los candidatos, o por el aspecto físico y la juventud de los candidatos. Muchos votaron simplemente por las falsas promesas de Nuevos Cambios, por fanatismo o porque se relacionan con los candidatos. Estas no son buenas razones para votar por un candidato. Los Americanos de Fe debemos ser más inquisitivos y educarnos más sobre las convicciones de los candidatos y votar solamente por aquellos que compartan nuestros valores cristianos. En las Elecciones Presidenciales del 2008, sólo el

54% de los protestantes / evangélicos y solo el 45% de los católicos votaron por los candidatos conservadores que apoyaban valores Cristianos. Esto es un baja en la participación de Americanos de Fe cuando la comparamos a previas elecciones. La visión de NAFAPAC es que debemos tomar una postura activa en la política, mantenernos vigilantes de las actividades del gobierno y de las nuevas leyes que puedan afectar a todos los Americanos de Fe. Nuestro mensaje para todos los Americanos es que, “Nosotros tenemos el poder de cambiar el rumbo de esta nación con nuestros votos eligiendo a nuestros representantes basado en sus convicciones políticas, sus valores cristianos y compromiso de evitar que el gobierno federal y los tribunales federales transformen o limiten nuestras libertades practicando nuestra fe.” También debemos estar alerta de los candidatos aspirando a las asambleas estatales. La meta de NAFAPAC es llegar a los cristianos de todas las denominaciones y a congregaciones a nivel nacional para proporcionar información sobre candidatos y nuevas leyes. Nuestras metas son: • Involucrar a los Pastores Cristianos y Arzobispos y líderes Católicos a una campaña de educación política en todas las iglesias. • Proporcionar información sobre las cuestiones que afectan a los Americanos de Fe. • Educar a los Americanos de Fe antes de ir a las urnas para que puedan votar de manera sabia y eficaz. • Distribuir Guías para Votantes con la posición de los candidatos en temas que afectan a los Americanos de Fe. • Organizar eventos con candidatos aspirando a puestos políticos. • invitar a miembros de las iglesias a participar a los eventos con candidatos para que conozcan sus posiciones sobre los temas de interés. Todos tenemos una gran responsabilidad, como Americanos de Fe y ciudadanos, de PROTEGER NUESTRA FE Y EL FUTURO DE ESTA NACION PARTICIPANDO EN EL PROCESO ELECTORAL Y CON NUESTROS VOTOS. Debemos buscar la sabiduría de Dios cuando elegimos a nuestros líderes para que nos representen en todos los niveles de gobierno. Si todos nos unimos en una causa común, lograremos nuestros objetivos.

a Constitución de los Estados Unidos le otorga a todos los ciudadanos americanos el “derecho al voto” y el privilegio de elegir a los funcionarios públicos para que los representen a niveles federales, estatales y locales… Este derecho esta protegido por las leyes federales y estatales, y por varias enmiendas en la Constitución que garantizan el derecho al voto sin limitaciones por motivos de religión, raza, color, edad, sexo, o incluso no pagando los impuestos. Sin embargo, cuando se trata de la participación de los Americanos de Fe, cristianos de todas las denominaciones, votando en las elecciones políticas y participando en el proceso político, es necesario reconocer que un gran número de Americanos de Fe están desconectados de la verdadera importancia y del valor de sus votos. Algunos ciudadanos creen que un solo voto no puede hacer ningún impacto en el resultado de las elecciones y esto es un criterio errado. El voto es un privilegio otorgado a los ciudadanos bajo la Constitución. Es nuestra responsabilidad de votar y que nuestro voto sea contado. Aquí es donde NAFAPAC encuentra una gran necesidad para educar y alertar a todos sobre la importancia de votar y participar. Muchos Americanos de Fe, se quejan de que el país va en una dirección errada, la economía va mal, hay un gran desempleo, el gobierno federal no esta haciendo su labor parar mejorar la economía, el costo de la gasolina esta por la nubes y los tribunales federales están fallando a favor del aborto, el matrimonio entre personas del mismo sexo y en contra de orar en las escuelas y en lugares públicos. Ya es hora que los Americanos de Fe se dejen de quejar porque en la mayoría de los casos somos nosotros mismos las raíces de los problemas que estamos confrontando por no elegir a candidatos que comparten nuestros nuestras necesidades, nuestros valores y nuestras convicciones. Debemos instruirnos sobre los candidatos aspirando a cargos públicos y votar cuando llegan las elecciones. Es hora de que todos, tomemos una postura mas activa en la política y en crear un futuro mas seguro para nuestros hijos y nietos. También existe otra preocupación y ese es que, algunos Pastores Cristianos y Arzobispos y líderes Católicos se oponen a participar en asuntos relacionados con la “política” y prefieren adoptar una
