Carrigaline Community News Active Retired This Thursday May 17th the Carrigaline Active Retired Association members are going on a day out to Griffins Garden Centre in Dripsey. The bus leaves the Bandroom at 11.00 am seats still available contact Noreen 0871301122. Last Thursday the CARA members thoroughly enjoyed another session of Line Dancing with Frankie Brierley. After the tea break Kevin Mc Cluskey, Chaplain, Carrigaline Community School spoke to the members about the possibility of transition year students visiting older people in their homes. The young people would help with household chores, do shopping or just chat. The students would be in a group of three and would learn a great deal from the older folk and vice versa. The Community School students would earn credits for their Gaisce Presidents Awards that they endeavour to qualify for. The President presents the Gaisce awards annually. Anyone interested can contact Kevin Mc Cluskey at the Community School phone 4372300 extension 25. Next Week CARA are promoting the outdoor gym in the park. Sport stars headed up by All Star Nicholas Murphy will demonstrate and talk about the benefits of the different pieces of equipment. Carrigaline Sports Therapist Brendan O’Driscoll will be on hand to give advice.

Blood Donor Clinic This Sunday, 20th May, the Irish Blood Transfusion Service will hold a special Blood donor Clinic in the

Carrigaline at the GAA Pavilion from 11.00 am until 2.30 pm. The Blood Transfusion Service needs more donors at present and it gives those who missed the recent clinic an opportunity to donate blood on Sunday next.

Céilí Mór

• Carrigaline Railway Station a 100 years ago

The Seán Norman Céilí Band really pleased the dancers at the May Céilí Mór in the Carrigaline GAA last Saturday night. There was a great dancing crowd there who were on the floor for every set and stayed to the end of the night. The next Carrigaline Céilí Mór will take place in the GAA Pavilion on Saturday 9th June with music by the 10 piece Five Counties Céilí Band.

Damhsafest 2012 Plans for this year’s DamhsaFest are progressing favourably. International Folk Dancers from America, Russia, Finland Philippines, Togo and Wales are expected to join with the Irish dancers for the annual festival, which takes place from July 25th to 29th. The organizers are still looking for volunteers and a numbers of host families to accommodate some of the dancers. For further information contact Barry 087 813 7990.

Men’s Shed Progress on the cleaning, painting and refurbishment of the Carrigaline Men’s Shed is continuing slowly but surely. Work on the kitchen cum dining room is now complete and up and running. It is fitted out with a refrigerator, cooker, kettle, table and
