Barry's Coffee morning for Douglas Tidy Towns Barry's of Douglas East are holding a Coffee Morning on Friday, May 2nd for Tidy Towns. This should be a very pleasant, upbeat experience because it is the third occasion that Barry's have so generously organized this lovely social get-together for Douglas residents. It has been wonderfully supported in the past and it gives people an opportunity to chat to the Tidy Towns members, exchange ideas and suggestions, and for people to show their support for the fantastic work this group of people do week in, week out.

Acid Reflux

Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is a chronic digestive disease that occurs when stomach acid or, occasionally, bile flows back (refluxes) into your food pipe (esophagus). The backwash of acid irritates the lining of your esophagus and causes GERD signs and symptoms. Signs and symptoms of GERD include acid reflux and heartburn. Both are common digestive conditions that most people experience from time to time. When these signs and symptoms occur more than twice each week or interfere with your daily life, doctors term this GERD. Broadale Most people can manage the discomfort of heartburn with lifestyle changes and over-the-counter Maryborough medications. But for people with GERD, these remedies may offer only temporary relief. People with GERD may need stronger medications, even surgery, to reduce symptoms. Hill Symptoms:A burning sensation in your chest (heartburn), sometimes spreading to the throat, along with a sour taste in your mouth, Chest pain, Difficulty swallowing (dysphagia), Dry cough, Hoarseness or sore throat, Regurgitation of food or sour liquid (acid reflux), Sensation of a lump in the throat.Treatment for heartburn and other signs and symptoms of GERD usually begins with over-the-counter medications that control acid. If you don't find relief within a few weeks, your doctor may recommend other treatments, including medications. Initial treatments to control heartburn: Over-the-counter treatments that may help control heartburn include: Antacids that neutralize stomach acid. Medications to reduce acid production. Medications 021 436 69 23 that block acid production and heal the esophagus. Prescription-strength medications. If heartburn persists despite initial approaches, your doctor may recommend prescription-strength medications, info@intervene.ie such as: Prescription-strength H-2-receptor blockers. Prescription-strength proton pump inhibitors. Medications to strengthen the lower esophageal sphincter. Lifestyle and home remedies: Lifestyle changes may help reduce the frequency of heartburn. Consider trying to: Maintain a healthy weight. Avoid tight-fitting clothing. Avoid foods that trigger heartburn. Don't lie down after a meal. Elevate the head of your bed. Don't smoke. Alternative medicine: No alternative medicines therapies are proven to treat GERD or to reverse damage to the esophagus. Still, some complementary and alternative therapies may provide some relief from the symptoms of GERD. Herbal remedies. Herbal remedies sometimes used for GERD symptoms include licorice, slippery elm, chamomile and marshmallow. Relaxation therapies. Techniques to calm stress and anxiety may reduce signs and symptoms of GERD. If you would like more information on treating and living with acid reflux, call Garvan at Lynch's Pharmacy on 4366923.

2014 Trends by Pat Walker

With inspiration from the fifties right through to the noughties and strong focus on silhouette/body shape designers have made Spring/Summer 2014 one of the most exciting fashion seasons we have seen in quite some time. This winning combination has high-street stores stocked with an array of collections and accessories that would not look out of place in Paris or Milan.

TRENDS: Colour Palette It is pretty pastels all the way. Suitable for all skin colours the soft shades of pink, peach, blue, yellow and green will bring you summer-fashion forward, along with classic navy and plain whites. A cropped leather/pleather jacket in a pale pastel is an ideal wardrobe staple. Prints Make a statement with a graphic, street or pop art design tee-shirt in bold primary colours. For a softer classic or vintage inspired look it's full on floral’s with a choice of large print blossoms or small print rose buds. Jumpsuits The jumpsuit has made a huge comeback and is a fabulous alternative to the lightweight holiday maxi dress. Rock the jumpsuit by choosing one that suits your body shape and height, if unsure avoid print and opt for a solid colour. Bring it from day to night with high heels, and a pop of colour with statement jewellery. Denim Whether it's indigo, light or stonewash, denim can be part of anyone's wardrobe. Wear skinny jeans with a pretty lace or sheer top. If you are not a fan of blue choose white, pastel or black denim.

YOU DONT GET A SECOND CHANCE TO MAKE YOUR FIRST IMPRESSION For the last 58 years Roman House has helped many brides and grooms to enjoy the happiest day of their lives. Roman house offers a comprehensive range of wedding invitations and accessories to complete your perfect day, including personalised candles, guest books, jewellery, ring cushions, and wedding coins, to name a few - and it’s all under one roof. Roman House is conveniently located 50 yards from North Main Street Car Park and open six days per week from 9am to 5.30pm. Our friendly team awaits your call or visit and will help you explore your options.

Dr Stefan Billing, Functional Neurologist & Chiropractor

One Hundred Types of Arthritis? As we age, many of us start to feel pain in certain joints, particularly in the hands, hips, knees, feet and spine. This seems especially common in women. A doctor might make the broad diagnosis of arthritis, an inflammation of the joint that causes pain and stiffness, but do you know that there are at least 100 different types of arthritis that fall under this very broad umbrella? The most common type of arthritis is osteoarthritis, which occurs when the cartilage between the bones in the joint breaks down, causing pain as the bones Arthritis comes in grind against one another. Typical causes over 100 varieties, but it doesn't have are aging, repetitive use, subluxation of to strike you! joints, being overweight and a family history of the disease. Arthritis comes in over 100 varieties, but it doesn't have to strike you! Rheumatoid arthritis, an autoimmune disorder of the joints that usually begins between the ages of 30 – 50, is also quite common. Symptoms that include swelling, redness and a feeling of warmth usually begin in the small joints of the fingers, wrists and feet. More common in women than men, this condition can be very disabling, affecting one's ability to work and lead a normal life. Other common types of arthritis include gout, lupus, fibro myalgia, Scleroderma and carpal tunnel syndrome. Depending on the type and severity of the condition, physical therapy and different combinations of drugs may be prescribed to relieve pain and reduce swelling. Can Chiropractic Help Your Joint Pain? YES! Chiropractic care may be helpful at both preventing arthritis and in reducing pain and lack of mobility in those who already have the condition. How? When a person has arthritis, pain keeps them from moving. Lack of movement reduces the use of the joint and decreases range of motion, which makes the condition worsea vicious cycle. Chiropractic adjustments can help to increase mobility in the joints, causing more movement and a reduction in pain. They also may help slow down the progression of the arthritic condition by restoring motion. Chiropractic care may also help prevent arthritic conditions because it encourages specific healthy behaviours and wellness habits that contribute to an overall healthy lifestyle, such as an anti-inflammatory diet, proper weight maintenance and exercise. In addition, chiropractic adjustments help to keep the spine properly aligned and the nervous system, which controls your immune system, functioning optimally to help prevent autoimmune flare ups. If you have had enough of your arthritic pain, then call us today on (021) 429-2445 and book your exam with Dr Stefan Billing Koru means: Life, Growth, Movement PAGE 20
