Flamingos use mud to build their nests. Another bird uses its own saliva! Why do birds pick some nest materials and not others? Find out by exploring the characteristics of different kinds of matter. Use your senses to observe solids and liquids. Investigate how heating and cooling affect butter, chocolate, plastic, and glass. Test chalk, crayon, marker, and pencil to see which works best on different surfaces. Then use what you learned about materials to build a rain shelter.
