Our music program at Braemar College extends from Year 5 to Year 12 and includes both curriculum-based classroom music and a wide range of extracurricular activities and lunchtimeclubs MusicattheCollegeisledbyourDirectorofMusic,DrJacquelineOgeil,who worksalongsideadedicatedteamofclassroomteachersandinstrumentalmusictutors.
Classroom music follows the Australian Curriculum, ensuring a balanced focus on performance,composition,andappreciation StudentsoftenjoinBraemaratYear5orYear7 with a wide range of musical experience. Our staff work thoughtfully to meet each student where they are, building their skills so they can confidently make, perform, and write music usingarangeofinstruments.
Ourinstrumentalmusicprogramisastandout.Deliveredbyspecialisttutorsandcoordinated byDrOgeil,theprogramoffersexperttuitionacrossabroadspectrumofinstruments;strings, wind,percussion,piano,voice,andevenharp,whichreturnsin2025aspartofourexpanding offering. These 30-minute lessons, provided during the school day, mean families can save time and avoid after-hours travel Each session includes an extra 10 minutes for tutors to recordprogressandtailorfeedback.
Students also have access to a variety of ensemble opportunities on both the Mount Macedon and Woodend campuses Participation is encouraged for all, with ensembles rehearsingacrosstheweekandperforminginshowcases,publicevents,andourannualGala Evening
SeniorstudentsmayalsochoosetopursueVCEMusic,includingsubjectsinsoloperformance and vocational streams such as music sound production These programs are supported by expertteachingstaffandprovideaprofessionalpathwayintothemusicindustry.
