Tucked into the tall cliffs at Mesa Verde are rooms made of stone. Today no one lives inside. But long ago, people cooked, played, and slept there. How did their homes protect them from the weather? Find out by investigating how wind, rain, snow, and sunlight affect people and places. Make a tool to measure the wind. Build a shelter that blocks sunlight.

Look for weather patterns. Then try to solve a mystery: Why did the people of Mesa Verde leave their homes, never to return?

Scientists study the world around them. They make observations and ask questions to explore how things work.

In science, you will build knowledge about weather, pushes and pulls, plants and animals, and environments. Along the way, ask yourself, How does my new knowledge help me understand the world?
