THE DOBSON ASSOCIATION 5 JUNE 2024
ASSOCIATION
A MESSAGE FROM THE ASSOCIATION PRESIDENT
Dobson Ranch Friends & Neighbors,
Things have been moving quickly at Dobson Ranch since our Annual Meeting in April! I am honored to have the opportunity to serve the Dobson Ranch Community as your new President of the Board of Directors. I was blessed to grow up in Dobson Ranch and have enjoyed raising my family here. I have always thought Dobson Ranch was the best place to live, work, and play!
As I move into my new role, I thank my predecessor, Board President Nicole Lynam. During my first year on the board, I was inspired by her passion for the community, hard work, generosity, and selflessness. I am deeply grateful for all Nicole has done and continues to do for the Dobson Ranch community.
At our Annual Election, we had three new board members join our team: Holly Prasetio, Sam Javelosa, and Brad Bettencourt. At a subsequent special meeting, a vacant seat formerly reserved by Kathleen Tolar, having two years remaining, needed to be filled, and the board accepted and added Andy Rehn for that open seat. As the board worked to assign officer positions and committee liaison appointments, we were very strategic in ensuring that we had a strong succession plan to protect the community from resignations or elections. Below are the assignments that were unanimously agreed upon by the board:
BOARD OF DIRECTOR OFFICE POSITIONS
President - Randy Harvey
Vice President - Sam Javelosa
Treasurer:
Stephanie Fee - Mentoring Bradley Bettencourt
Secretary:
Holly Prasetio - Mentored by Michael Snedeker
BOARD COMMITTEE LIAISON ASSIGNMENTS
Dobson Ranch Architectural Committee (DRAC): Sandy Murray - Mentoring Holly Prasetio
Budget & Finance Committee:
Stephanie Fee & Bradley Bettencourt
Master Planning Committee:
Michael Snedaker & Sam Javelosa
Water & Lake Management Committee

CC&R Ad Hoc Committee
Stephanie Fee & Holly Prasetio
As a longtime resident and homeowner of Dobson Ranch, I’ve enjoyed our great facilities and wonderful events, but what makes Dobson Ranch great are the residents and their community spirit. I grew up seeing neighbors helping neighbors, greeting each other with kind words or a friendly wave while enjoying all that Dobson Ranch offers together as a community. My hope is that we all will work hard to foster that spirit and pass it on to the next generations in Dobson Ranch.
Finally, I will ask that you do your part to help our Dobson Ranch community! We have the following committees and clubs that really could use your help:
• Water & Lake Management Committee
• Recreation Committee
• Family Engagement Club & Mom’s Club
• Dobson Ranch Community Club
If you live on one of our lakes, enjoy boating, love fishing or even like walking the shorelines, you may be a great fit for the Water & Lake Committee. Do you enjoy our community events? If so, please consider volunteering and being a part of the Recreation Committee, Family Engagement Club & Mom’s Club, or the Dobson Ranch Community Club.
We hope to see you at an upcoming event or a meeting soon. Thanks for keeping Dobson Ranch the best place to live!
Randy

CURB APPEAL IS A MULTIFACETED APPROACH
With warmer temperatures approaching, we know summertime is not ideal for working on your landscape. Now is the time to take advantage of the cooler mornings and find ways to upgrade your curb appeal. Maintaining an aesthetically pleasing appearance for homes in Dobson Ranch fosters a positive atmosphere, impacts property values, and creates a more desirable living environment for all residents. Curb appeal is pivotal in maintaining and enhancing a community’s aesthetics and value. For homeowners, investing in curb appeal elevates personal property value and contributes to a welcoming and attractive neighborhood atmosphere. This visual appeal can foster a sense of pride and community among residents, potentially leading to higher property values and quicker sales for those looking to move. Additionally, a well-maintained exterior can create a positive first impression, showcasing the care and attention given to the home and its surroundings.
Managing and eliminating weeds is the simplest and most effective way to enhance curb appeal. Overgrown weeds can quickly diminish a property’s attractiveness, making it appear neglected and unkempt. Regularly pulling weeds, applying weed control solutions, and maintaining a clean, tidy landscape can make a significant difference. Incorporating ground covers and mulch not only suppresses weed growth but also retains moisture and provides a polished look to garden beds. Prioritizing weed management is a small effort that yields substantial rewards in the overall appearance of your home.
Water conservation is another crucial aspect of maintaining curb appeal, especially in areas prone to drought or water restrictions like Arizona. Implementing water-saving tips can help maintain a lush, green landscape without excessive water use. Effective strategies include opting for droughttolerant plants, installing drip irrigation systems, and using smart irrigation controllers. Additionally, watering lawns and gardens early in the morning or late in the evening reduces evaporation, ensuring that plants receive the maximum benefit from each watering session. By adopting these practices, homeowners can sustainably maintain vibrant gardens and lawns, contributing to the neighborhood’s overall charm.
In addition to weed control and conserving water, a fresh coat of paint can dramatically improve a home’s exterior, instantly boosting curb appeal. Whether touching up trim or updating the entire exterior, choosing colors that complement the surrounding environment can create a harmonious and inviting look. On the HOA website, https://www.dobsonranchhoa. com/architectural-guidelines, you can see the approved paint colors for Dobson Ranch and apply them online for architectural approval. You may also come by the Administration office to see swatches of approved colors. Selecting high-quality, weather-resistant paint to ensure longevity and durability against the elements is essential. Regularly inspecting and addressing any peeling or faded areas can prevent further damage and maintain a polished appearance. A well-painted house looks appealing and reflects a homeowner’s dedication to property upkeep, enhancing the entire community’s attractiveness.
In conclusion, enhancing curb appeal is a multifaceted approach that benefits homeowners and the broader community. Each step contributes to a well-maintained, inviting, and attractive neighborhood, from diligent weed management and water conservation practices to refreshing the exterior with a new coat of paint. By investing time and effort into these aspects, homeowners can increase their property’s value and stimulate a sense of pride and cohesiveness within the community. And most importantly, avoid compliance notices. Ultimately, prioritizing curb appeal ensures that the Dobson Ranch neighborhood remains a desirable and beautiful place to call home.
Please get in touch with compliance@dobsonranch.com should you have any questions about the architectural application process or violation notices. Thanks for reading, and let’s keep Dobson Ranch beautiful!

Bike to Books Contest in Mesa
The City of Mesa’s Bicycle and Pedestrian Program and Mesa Public Library announce the second year of the Bike to Books contest. Mesa invites students and homeschoolers in prekindergarten to 12th grade to design bike symbol art for a City of Mesa shared use path. The contest aims to encourage Mesa residents to bike more, read more books and look for opportunities to combine the two by biking to a public library or neighborhood little library.
Grand prize winners will have their designs installed on a Mesa shared use path next winter. Prizes will be awarded to the creators of the winning designs in the following grade brackets: prekindergarten to 2nd grade, 3rd through 6th grade and 7th through 12th grade.
“It was exciting to see last year’s winners light up when they saw their final designs installed,” said Mesa Library Director Polly Bonnett. “The contest celebrates the adventures of both biking and reading, and we cant wait to see the creative designs our young participants come up with next.”
To participate, visit any Mesa Public Library location to pick up a copy of the design sheet or print a downloadable copy from the library’s website. Participants can drop off completed designs at any Mesa Public Library location. The deadline to submit is July 31. Winners will be announced in the fall.
Mesa City Council Votes to Put General Plan on the November 2024 Ballot
The Mesa City Council has approved the 2050 General Plan, giving Mesa residents the opportunity to vote on it during the November 2024 General Election. City Council’s action follows a series of public meetings held in each City Council District earlier this year for residents to review and provide additional input about the roadmap for Mesas long-term growth, prosperity and well-being.
The process began in late 2022 and included four surveys and approximately 100 public events and presentations. A citizen advisory committee guided the public outreach process, analyzed the community’s input and made recommendations to City staff.
The 2050 General Plan was created using public input and input from the Citizen Advisory Committee, information from existing plans, and the Mesa City Council strategic initiatives. The Plan includes a vision statement, core values, guiding principles and strategies to guide decision making for the next decade. The Plan does not raise taxes or change the existing zoning of property.
Mesa Seeks Community Input for Comprehensive Road Safety Action Plan
The City of Mesa is launching an online, interactive survey as part of the Spring 2024 Community Touchpoint for its Comprehensive Road Safety Action Plan. The City is creating the plan to advance its commitment to create safer streets for everyone who lives, works or plays in our vibrant community.
The City is seeking broad public participation in the development of the Action Plan. Residents are encouraged to: Take a survey: Share your thoughts and experiences on Mesas roadways at https://mesasaferstreets.com.
Identify safety concerns: Pinpoint locations on a map where you feel unsafe on Mesas streets.
Sign up for updates: Stay informed about the Action Plans progress and future engagement opportunities.
Spread the word: Share this information with your family, friends, neighbors and colleagues.
More information about the Comprehensive Road Safety Action Plan is available online at Home | Mesa Safer Streets.

A Rose by Any Other Name - by
Kathrine Blomquist
Here comes summer! I know many of us are wondering if it will be as hot as last year (fingers crossed it’s not). In preparation for come-what-may, here are a few tips to help you save water this summer:
*Check outdoor faucets, pipes, and hoses for leaks
*If you have a pool, invest in a cover to prevent water loss through evaporation
*Speaking of evaporation, water your plants in the early morning to minimize evaporation. Using sprinklers or emitters that deliver big drops of water close to the ground also helps because smaller drops can evaporate before hitting the ground
*Use 2 to 4 inches of organic mulch around plants to reduce evaporation
Did someone say mulch? A sincere thank you to SRP for mulch for the Memorial Rose Garden! Bags of mulch were picked up by amazing volunteers (I am a tad biased since I live with them) and distributed by DR landscape staff.
Interesting fact: The mulch consists of trimmings from overgrown trees that come in contact with, or are near, SRP’s power lines. What a great example of closed-loop recycling, where materials are turned into a new product without losing their properties during the recycling process, right in our own neighborhood! Thank you SRP for the commitment to the environment and for helping Dobson Ranch. Also, thanks are in order to all the Memorial Rose Garden volunteers for their dedication to this special space.
