Letterfromthe HeadofSchool

Dear friends and families of DLSA, I have welcomed the opportunity to lead De La Salle Academy (DLSA) in its fuller expression. As alumnus Head of School, I am grateful to embrace the many opportunities to collaborate in person with our students, families, alums, trustees, faculty, and supporters. From the fall retreats (including the midnight hike and preparing meals altogether) that had not occurred since before the pandemic, to the family picnic (a gathering of students, parents and alumni on a sunny day in Riverside Park), to the holiday concert in December (and an introduction of the newly formed DLSA Choir), every opportunity has been a gift to reconnect with our school more completely I remain grateful for the DLSA community and the faculty and staff that sustained us throughout the past two years, and brought us to this place once again

With a deep understanding and familiarity with our past, we seek to further the School’s growth as is set forth in our Strategic Plan As we near forty years of continuing our mission to provide access to an exceptional independent middle school experience for all students regardless of their socio-economic status, we embrace the opportunity to discover and implement what Learning, Leadership, and Legacy can mean in the global context and at this juncture in our school’s history.

Alongside our exceptional and dedicated faculty and staff, I am excited about our future and the opportunities that await us.

We have a resounding collective commitment to academic excellence and moral education; a devoted community persevering on behalf of DLSA; and a history of resiliency, cultural continuity, and joy that continues at the School and which lays the groundwork for our future.

Thank you to all of our donors, staff, volunteers, and community partners for supporting DLSA. We are ever mindful that we are sustained daily because of your support I am profoundly grateful to our entire community for your dedication, trust, and encouragement. Your collective support enables us to provide our students with the unparalleled innovative and challenging middle school curriculum needed to pursue their leadership in our world

In closing, our doors are always open. I invite you to come spend time with our students and experience the magic of DLSA.

With best wishes,

1

Letterfromthe

BoardofTrusteesCo-Chairs

In the thirty-eighth year of De La Salle Academy, we are delighted to share with you the extraordinary generosity of the DLSA community in the 2021-2022 Annual Report. The names listed truly represent the heart and spirit of our community. Each person in this Report has supported the School in time, expertise, and with their financial resources to ensure that we were able to provide a safe, balanced, and student-centered middle school educational experience for all our children this past year

The School would not thrive if it were not for its students and families as well as supporters including alums, Kelly alums, foundations, past and present Board members, past and current parents, faculty and staff, and friends who contribute generously to the School Because of this support of and belief in our mission, DLSA was able to provide a continuous and comprehensive program during what was indeed a challenging year

The gifts our supporters gave to DLSA are examples of the essential culture of collaboration between the School and our community and ensures that all of our students have access to the best faculty, a proven middle school curriculum, and a robust program that truly sets our school apart.

Last year, our donor community gave $1,403,732 to the Annual Fund. We were also able to launch DLSA Scholarships last fall, which, in just over a year, has raised $2,393,750 – 75% of its goal. Our alums raised $121,513 in 2021-2022. Overall, we totaled 573 donors.

We also would be remiss if we didn't highlight our current and former students, who are the heart of DLSA. DLSA faculty and staff work tirelessly to prepare future generations of DLSA alums to make a positive difference in the world We are so proud of all of our alumni, a growing community of over 1,800 graduates who leave their beloved DLSA to realize their dreams and lead meaningful change in their communities and beyond And we are grateful too, that they come back to visit, to teach, and to share their experiences.

Thank you for your dedication, trust, and support

CLASS OF 2022 Graduation

Last year’s graduation felt like a blur I remember that people were fixing their hair and some were scared of wearing high heels for the first time. Everything was moving so fast, and even the speeches seemed like a few sentences long. Everyone was draining themselves from the last things they had wanted to say, and what had seemed like a few drops, I realize, never fully dried And even though we are able to see each other in new stages of our lives, really we can never change those preserved vessels of ourselves, and graduation was that moment captured in time

I didn’t feel sad when we graduated. No, I felt proud and prepared. I know that a lot of things in life come to an end, but that only opens new doors And really endless possibilities of what we can be and what we choose to do. And I love De La Salle because it embraces the individuality of each student. Yes, there are a variety of clubs and classes. But De La Salle teaches us something more something that we will carry on for the rest of our lives And for me, it was the respect we got as a student and as a person I was in love with that idea, that we carried the power to commit to our dreams and to fulfill them.

OurMission

To offer academically talented, economically less advantaged children of diverse backgrounds a life-changing educational experience in grades 6-8, where they are empowered to reach their full potential. With the support of caring and dedicated teachers, students are introduced to an innovative yet challenging academic curriculum, strong core values, character development, and they learn to foster a sense of community. Upon graduation, our youngsters are well-equipped to become the leaders of tomorrow. De La Salle believes in a need-blind admissions process to ensure that students are evaluated based solely on their merits and not on their families’ ability to pay.
