To offer academically talented, economically less advantaged children of diverse backgrounds a life-changing educational experience in grades 6-8, where they are empowered to reach their full potential. With the support of caring and dedicated teachers, students are introduced to an innovative yet challenging academic curriculum, strong core values, character development, and they learn to foster a sense of community. Upon graduation, our youngsters are well-equipped to become the leaders of tomorrow. De La Salle believes in a need-blind admissions process to ensure that students are evaluated based solely on their merits and not on their families’ ability to pay.

On June 11th, 2024, DLSA held the Class of 2024 Graduation, with guest speaker Izabella Lizarazo ’19 and class speakers, Anthony Chen ’24 and Rachel Fadugbagbe ’24.
.
Rachel Fadugbagbe ’24, excerpts from the original speech:
Today, June 11th marks the day the class of 2024 will be departing from this community. Not only are we gathering here for a celebration, but to mark a milestone in many of our lives. My fellow graduates will be leaving middle school and joining the young adult world of high school. These past 2-3 years have shaped our minds to learn from the past, appreciate the present, and prepare for the future. While my class has faced hardships and challenges, we have triumphed and we are here today to honor our achievements.
I thank everyone’s work that has led us and helped us in this journey For me and many others, August 31st, 2021 was officially the first day we entered into this community That day started the next 3 crazy years of my life 6th grade was the first step into De La Sallian's life, although that year was restricted due to Covid-19 7th grade was the long transformative journey of physical and social growth, and 8th grade culminated in being the leaders of the school Now, we reflect on our lives as we move on to the next chapter
As students of De La Salle, we uphold 3 main values that have greatly impacted my life. Care, Support, and Respect. Care: When I started in this school, I was shown the true nature of kindness.Support: During the hardest academic and social year of De La Salle, I was able to thrive because of the availability of support in 7th grade.Respect: The final and most important year of middle school: 8th grade. The year of “legacy.” The time and events that happen this year will prepare you for the future and mark your progress over the last few years on the future graduating students. In the end, the opportunities given to us will expand our knowledge and understanding of the true La Sallian culture.
Sparking the question, What does it mean to be a graduate of De La Salle Academy? Being in the De La Salle community is a commitment to one another to serve as a mentor, leader, friend, and most importantly, a family member.
Chen ’24, excerpts from the original speech:
As we stand here today, I would like to share with you a quote that I’m sure all of you are familiar with, “Look to your left; now look to your right; the people you see will be your brothers and sisters for the rest of your lives.” When Dr T said that on orientation day in 2021, I must admit I had my doubts In the last three years; De La Salle has taught me many lessons to incorporate into my life in high school and beyond The lessons taught were all built on DLSA’s pillars of community; Care, Support, and Respect. Care; the Golden Rule, to do no harm and to allow no harm. These values are drilled into the minds of DLSA students for a reason; these all culminate in embodying the message of St. John Baptiste De La Salle….Over the years, DLSA has nurtured us into blossoming young leaders. Something that only DLSA can do best.
To my family, thank you so much for your support. I couldn’t have gone this far without you, and I am forever grateful. To the faculty and staff; thank you for making wonderful connections with all the students while grading, teaching, and everything else a teacher must do. It is extremely difficult, and yet all of you are exceptional at it. To the 6th and 7th graders, all of you have been wonderful younger siblings here at DLSA, I hope you remember all of us once you achieve success. And to all of my fellow graduates, you made the past three years of my life amazing. I hope I keep in touch with all of you, as a friend you can always count on, because I am sure I can count on all of you.
I will always remember De La Salle for its loving faculty, amazing students, and powerful mission. De La Salle, thank you for being my second home for the past three years I promise that I will visit, and that I will give updates on life, and that I won’t forget this place for the impact it’s had on me and my ability to be a leader wherever I end up in the years to come
On April 18, 2024, De La Salle A y r Excellence in Educational Access - School Leader in Equity Award, given by the National Partnership for Educational Access (NPEA) and the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation.
The Award, sponsored by the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation, recognizes a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice work; an inclusive climate and culture on campus and support for BIPOC, low-income, and first generation college-bound students and families; creativity and innovation in response to systemic racism and inequity; and a commitment to amplifying the voices of students and faculty/staff who identify with a marginalized or excluded group.
“Congratulations to De La Salle Academy on winning this important Award and for their leadership in equity,” said Karin Elliott, Executive Director, NPEA “De La Salle’s commitment to providing life-changing educational experiences for students in grades 6-8 is remarkable and we are proud to work alongside such true leaders.”
“The Cooke Foundation shares a common passion with De La Salle Academy for supporting academically talented students with financial need,” said Seppy Basili, Executive Director, Jack Kent Cooke Foundation. “We appreciate the opportunity to partner with NPEA in acknowledging and elevating their fantastic work.”
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the National Partnership for Educational Access and the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation for honoring De La Salle Academy with this prestigious Award. Their shared recognition not only validates our dedication to education excellence and equity but also inspires us to continue to innovate in the area of middle school education Together, we strive to cultivate a brighter future for generations to come by ensuring that early adolescence is a community focused, inspiring, and joyful moment in our students’ educational journey regardless of their socio-economic status.

As we reflect on another remarkable year at DLSA, we are excited to announce the establishment of two new endowment funds that will significantly enhance our ability to support students now and into the future. These two funds are a testament to our community’s commitment to providing a transformative learning experience, ensuring that DLSA can continue to offer innovative resources, scholarships, and opportunities that empower our students to thrive. These two new funds added to our current endowment will not only secure the financial stability of our school but also enable us to invest in the future leaders of tomorrow, reinforcing our mission to inspire academic excellence and character development in every student.
We are profoundly grateful to the Ajayi Family for their thoughtfulness and fortitude in creating The Erica Cooke Ajayi ’94 Endowment Scholarship Fund in honor of Erica Ajayi ’94. As a symbol of the profound impact DLSA had on Erica, this Scholarship Fund empowers future generations of DLSA female students traveling to DLSA from the Bronx, just as Erica did, through financially supporting their ability to attend the School and also offering mentorship for the student as they navigate middle school, high school, and their education and career pursuits thereafter. "Creating the Erica Cooke Ajayi ’94 Endowment Scholarship Fund with my husband Michael is the fulfillment of my dream to give back to the DLSA community that gave me confidence, safety and support during my most vulnerable years. This scholarship supports future generations of young women from the Bronx and aims to provide mentorship and guidance. I hope that this scholarship is a blessing to the recipients, aiding them in the pursuit of their own dreams " - Erica Ajayi, Class of '94
