Hey NYDKC!

I hope you ’ re all doing well and having a great start to the service year. My name is Allan An, and I have the honor of serving as your International Trustee! The other Districts I serve are the California-Nevada-Hawaii District and Eastern Canada District.

My job as your Trustee is to spread awareness of Key Club’s global presence, connect members to resources, and support you as a friend. If you would like me to, I would be more than happy to speak virtually at any of your events or record a video. Feel free to just let me know.

My platform and goals for this service year are centered around focusing on our past, present, and future. We're at a crucial point in our history: Key Club just turned 99 years old! And as we approach our 100th anniversary, it’s important to learn from our history so we can maximize our impact today and shape a dynamic future for Key Club International.

I'm beyond excited to be working with all of you. Please reach out if you have any questions or just want to chat!

Yours in Service, Leadership, and Friendship, Allan An International Trustee allan.an@keyclub.org

GOVERNOR’S PROJECT

ARTHRITIS FOUNDATION

As the nation’s #1 cause of disability, arthritis affects nearly 60 million adults and hundreds of thousands of children. Over 100 types of arthritis and related conditions damage the joints and often other organs. On May 6, 1948, the Arthritis Foundation was founded with a goal to attack the challenges of arthritis through a national program to fund medical research and provide better medical services for patients.

On June 5th, after school, me, the rest of the Board, and a few dedicated Coheads attended Bronx Science’s annual Open House. At the event, as hundreds of pre-freshmen flooded the gymnasium to talk to the plethora of clubs, ours stood above the rest with its scale and ferventness. We introduced hundreds of future students and their parents to Key Club, promoting the club’s values of community and inclusion, and securing its future for the coming years.

On June 1st, 2024, Key Clubbers attended Tastes of Park Slope, located at 4th Street and 5th Avenue Park Slope. We worked at a stand and raised money for the Seeds in the Middle organization by selling fresh orange juice, raffle tickets, and tickets for Tastes of Park Slope. We also gathered signatures for a petition for food justice. Throughout the event, we learned more about what the organization, Seeds in the Middle, strives to do: inspire parents, educators, students, and their community to access all opportunities beginning with improving their health, enhancing arts education, and greening their environment. This was an inspiring event where we learned about underprivileged communities in Brooklyn d share this information to many other people ate to the cause. This event was eye-opening in sthand about the food inequality in other o be empowered and help inspire others to bring his event is highly recommended and all of us themselves!

On May 1st, 2024, the New York Blood Center hosted a blood drive at Lindenhurst High School, held in the school’s library. This event aimed to address the urgent need for blood donations in the local community and saw strong participation from both students and staff.

To ensure the safety of all involved, prospective donors underwent a series of eligibility tests, including blood pressure checks and other vital screenings. These measures were crucial in verifying that each donor was in good health and fit to donate blood. After successfully donating, participants were provided with snacks and were instructed to sit and rest in a designated area within the library. This post-donation protocol was in place to help donors recuperate and prevent any immediate adverse effects. Volunteers and staff ensured that donors remained in the recovery area for a sufficient amount of time before returning to their classes. The blood drive not only contributed significantly to local blood supplies but also promoted a spirit of community service and compassion among the students.
