Hello, Division 11 Key Clubbers!
As we step into the new school year, I want to remind everyone to keep an eye out for one of the most exciting events of the year—Fall Rally! Although it’s still a little ways off, now is the perfect time to start building up the excitement. Fall Rally is not just an event; it's a chance to unite with other Key Clubbers from all over, share our spirit, and celebrate the incredible impact we're making through service. With the school year kicking off, it's also the ideal time to promote Key Club at your schools. Let's make sure every student knows about the amazing opportunities Key Club offers. I encourage each of you to put up posters, distribute flyers, and take part in your school's club fair. Whether it’s by reaching out to new members or re-engaging returning ones, your efforts now will set the stage for a strong and successful year.
In Service and Friendship, Stacy Qu

My name is Ethan Schmidt, and I serve as your primary International Trustee. As an International Trustee, I work on Key Club’s International Board with International President, David Robaina, International Vice President, Carissa Andorf, and 10 other International Trustees to develop student programs, communicate with our international preferred partners and charities, accomplish liaison work between Districts, and develop Key Clubs around the world! All International Board (or, as we say, “I-Board”) members serve on 2 of 5 committees: Executive, Global Relations, Programs and Partners, The 100th, and Communications. As a member of the Executive committee and co-chair of the Programs and Partners, I have been able to work extensively with our preferred partners and charities as well as with Kiwanis staff to better KCI programs such as the Global Leadership Certificate and Key Club Week. As an International Trustee, my work is primarily focused on behind the scenes matters that members interact with as a final product (I like to think of the role as a construction worker who lays the foundation and builds the framework of the final product of the “building,” or in this case, a major Key Club event or program!)
My journey with Key Club has been a whirlwind in the best possible way. Joining during my freshman year, I stayed in the dark about Key Club matters until my advisor suggested that I run for Lt. Governor at my District Convention. Uninformed, unprepared, and rather scared, I decided to take a leap of faith and go for it. To my utter surprise, I was elected, and I served at the Division 6 Lt. Governor on the 2022-2023 Alabama District Board. I found my experience thoroughly enjoyable, as I had never before been able to connect with so many different individuals in my community. However, I also very quickly set a new goal for myself: I wanted to serve internationally. At the conclusion of my term, I took an arguably even bigger leap of faith and decided to try my chances at International Convention. There, in Anaheim, California, I was elected International Trustee, and I was lucky enough to be reelected at this past ICON in Atlanta, Georgia. Looking back, I can definitely say that the hardest part of the journey is mustering up the courage to actually run for a position. I often found myself stewing over hypotheticals and worrying about what could happen. If you are thinking about accomplishing something, my biggest advice would be to at least try! It’s always better to look back and pride yourself on what did happen instead of what would’ve been. While I could certainly ramble about Key Club for hours and hours, I am more than an International Trustee! While I do Trustee work for Capital, La-MissTenn, and New York, I actually am born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama. I am currently a senior in high school, and I’ve been in Key Club since the start of my freshman year! I have a deep affinity for community and global well-being, and I try to base my work around that interest. I know it is extremely geeky, but I am a big fan of philosophy, and I often try to tie those intricacies, often Rawlsian or Kritik-esque in nature, into the more simple, day-to-day flow of life. I find myself using a quote from Dalai Lama, “Love and passion are necessities, not luxuries. Without them, we cannot survive,” as a guiding principle. Outside of Key Club, I participate in Lincoln Douglas debate, math team, mock trial, and grantwork for nonprofits! One thing I do 24/7 is listen to music. Some of my favorite artists include Solange, Devonte Hynes (also known as Blood Orange), Erykah Badu, Jhene Aiko, and Lana Del Rey!

HKDBF was such a fun event. It is my new favorite key club event by far. I worked both days and I got a total of almost 30 hours for it! On Saturday, I was on landside and it was super busy. Since it was the first day, we had to move and unfold so many tables and chairs and take them to various tents all around the grass. We gave them to vendors, sponsors, and the VIP tent. Then we stood guard at the VIP tent and made sure only people entering were actual sponsors, performers, or important government officials.
On the second day of this event, I was working on the waterside which was extremely tiring, fun, and made me super sore by the next day. But it was so exciting pulling in the boats, loading and unloading the people, and hopping across platforms like parkour. And even more, there was so much action going on because a boat surprisingly capsized in the middle of a race causing a few staff and volunteers to literally sprint and jump over boats to get to the rescue area. Thankfully everyone was safe. In the end, this event was so fun not only because it was with my friends, but it was also people from other schools like Bayside high school, Stuyvesant, and Francis Lewis. I loved this event so much that after I graduate in the upcoming school year, I am going to come to this event again.

On August 18th, Key Clubbers attended BrooklynWorks to help prepare lunch bags that consisted of sandwiches, cookies, and kind notes to the local community fridges. During this event, volunteers were separated into different stations. One station was making sandwiches. We were assigned to this station: laying out the bread, cheese, lettuce, and ham, and ultimately assembling it all to make a sandwich! Another station would be packing up the sandwiches into a Ziploc bag along with a cookie. We also participated in the third station which was writing encouraging and supportive notes such as “You're amazing” or “You got this!” to be put in the lunch bags. Finally, the last station was to put the sandwiches and the notes all together in a paper bag. In the end, volunteers would take the lunch bags to local community fridges so that anyone hungry could take them!
This was such an amazing and fun event! There was a break where volunteers could go around, take pictures to put on their Instagram to spread the word and meet tons of new people! This was our favorite part since we bonded, made new friendships, and definitely took a lot of pictures! Everyone was so involved; we made a total of 187 sandwiches which was so close to the goal of 200 sandwiches!
The organizer of this event said that they could make these sandwiches all because of volunteers The volunteers are the reasons why these events are possible and why there can be ry. So we highly r ry other month so

On June 8th, Northport High School had it’s annual Relay for Life. Relay for Life is a cancer charity walk by the American Cancer Society that embraces the uniqueness of the home community. People from all over Northport/East Northport donated goods so that money could be raised for cancer treatment/research. During Relay for Life, people walked the track or played games with their friends on the field where it was held. For every lap you walked/ran, you got a bead for a necklace. This was great motivation for people, since they wanted to complete their necklaces. It also showed how many laps they took. On the field, many played ball games, bringing their own to play with their
Raffle tickets were available there, and y different prizes were donated, ranging ent a cancer patient’s diagnosis to being 5am. The change from day to night was having fun all night while raising money is an event any school can do, the twist mpactful to participants and the world.
