Penrith residents and visitors can look forward to improved safety and connectivity on the popular Great River Walk, with Penrith City Council releasing a revised design for the new pedestrian pathway on Nepean Avenue.

The new 2.6-metre-wide pathway on the western side of Nepean Avenue, between Tench Reserve and Memorial Avenue, aims to address pedestrian safety issues and provide the missing link to the popular Bridge-to-Bridge loop.

The project will also see Nepean Avenue become a two-way quietway with a reduced 30km/hr speed limit to support the safe integration of cyclists on the road and encourage more active transport. More trees will also be planted to improve amenity and provide more shade.

The revised design has been prepared in response to increasing activity around the Nepean River Precinct, due to ongoing improvements stimulated by the Our River Masterplan and a greater appreciation of outdoor recreation following the COVID-19 pandemic.

A survey conducted in November 2022 assessed movements along Nepean Avenue as remaining above pre-COVID levels, with 379 vehicles, 1,025 pedestrians and 67 cyclists recorded within five hours on a Saturday morning.

An independent road safety audit identified pedestrians as being at high risk on Nepean Avenue and recommended a clear separation between the road and the pathway to prevent accidents and injuries.

Penrith Mayor Tricia Hitchen says that as pedestrian activity around the Nepean River Precinct continues to increase, so does the need for a permanent solution to address the pedestrian safety issues on Nepean Avenue.

“Temporary safety measures are already in place on Nepean Avenue, but without formal pedestrian infrastructure, pedestrians are still forced to walk on the road, representing a clear safety risk, “Cr Hitchen said.

“Council has listened to previous feedback and investigated many options to ensure the revised design addresses these safety concerns and meets the needs and expectations of residents and the broader community”, Cr Hitchen said.

This project is proudly funded by the NSW Government in association with Penrith City Council. Council secured a $1.25 million grant under the Metropolitan Greenspace Program, and a further $2.5 million is allocated from Council’s District Open Space Contributions Plan.

Western Sydney Awaits Labor’s Move On Essential Mulgoa Road Upgrade

In an urgent call to action, Member for Badgerys Creek

Tanya Davies has called on Labor Member for Penrith, Karen McKeown, to join her in the fight to stand with the community and back the vital Mulgoa Road Upgrade for Stage 2, Stage 5A, and Stage 5B.

“The Mulgoa Road Upgrade isn’t merely another infrastructure project; it’s about improving the day-to-day lives of our families and hardworking individuals,” Mrs Davies said.

“For many in our community, this road represents daily commutes, school drop-offs, and the heartbeat of local businesses. The proposed upgrades are essential to meet the anticipated growth, bolster road safety, alleviate congestion, and enhance overall travel times.”

“It’s not just my electorate that stands to gain, the Penrith community also reaps the benefits of this much-needed upgrade. We need a united front on this issue. I urge the Minns Labor Government and the Member for Penrith to recognise the profound positive impact these upgrades will bring and support them wholeheartedly.”

“If the NSW Labor Government is planning to cancel this upgrade, it demonstrates that they have taken the votes of Western Sydney but are now failing to return the support back to Western Sydney.”

Entries Open for the 2023 Wollondilly Spring Garden Competition

Spring is here, so it’s time for the green thumbs of Wollondilly to put on their gloves, sign up and get ready for the 2023 Wollondilly Spring Garden Competition.

The annual Garden Competition is a popular event on Council’s calendar, bringing together like-minded community members with a passion for gardening.

The 2023 competition will culminate in a presentation and celebration at Wollondilly’s annual garden and plant fair, BLOOM, later in the year.

Mayor Matt Gould said, “Wollondilly Shire Council has a long and proud history of conducting the Spring Garden Competition, which was first established in 1990.”

“We are one of the few local councils still organising a garden competition for our community, and through the years it has been running we have seen our local gardeners persevere through challenges such as drought, bushfires and floods.”

“With so many beautiful gardens in the Shire, the Spring Garden Competition is a great way for our talented local gardeners to showcase their hard work and their love of nature.”

Entries are open now and will close on Friday 22 September. The entry form is available on Council’s website www. wollondilly.nsw.gov.au/events-and-community/annualevents/garden-competition/

Local Business Network Finalist Again in Awards

From thousands of entrants from across the nation, Wollondilly Women in Business network has again been named a Finalist in the Australian Women’s Small Business Champion Awards (2023) – a prestigious and comprehensive program that celebrates the growing number of Australia’s most inspiring and influential women in small business.

Lauded for excellence in the ‘Women’s Organisation’ category of the Awards, Wollondilly Women in Business, is in the running to take a top gong at the second annual Australian Women’s Small Business Champion Awards National Presentation Evening Gala Event, to be held on Saturday 23 September 2023.

With a mounting reputation as the ‘Logies’ of small business, the red-carpet event will be hosted by accomplished journalist and popular broadcaster, Deborah Knight, at the newly built Western Sydney Conference Centre at Penrith in NSW.

The only national awards program of its kind created specifically to shine a spotlight on the rising economic and social contributions of women in small business – spanning all capital cities as well as rural, regional, and suburban towns, the Australian Women’s Small Business Champion Awards is arguably among the most diverse in terms of the breadth of represented industries and sectors.

“The success of female-led small businesses in this country is absolutely one the rise, especially during the past decade and even during the current challenging economic climate,” says Steve Loe, Awards Founder and Managing Director of Precedent Productions, which coordinates the Australian Women’s Small Business Champion Awards.

“We simply could not look past the spiking number of female small business trailblazers and so deemed it only appropriate to have a standalone awards program that showcases and honours their achievements”.

From Women’s Organisation to manufacturing and more, the 2023 program features more than 60 industry categories and four individual award categories – Young Small Business Champion Women Entrepreneur (aged 30 years and younger), Small Business Champion Women Entrepreneur (aged over 30), Australian Small Business Champion Influential Woman and Australian Small Business Champion Icon.

“The quantity and quality of entrants in the 2023 Australian Women’s Small Business Champion Awards is truly remarkable and so the ultimate selection of this year’s finalists has by no means been an easy feat.”

“The Champion Judges evaluate entries, they consider all aspects of a business: it’s strategies, innovative initiatives, customer service, vision, growth, environment and community support – to name but some of the judging criteria”, added Mr Loe.

“After winning this category last year, it fills our hearts to know that the work we do has been recognised once again in 2023. No matter the outcome, we are thrilled to be a Finalist”, says Founder and President, Michelle Legg.

“Wollondilly Women in Business is all about providing a range of opportunities for our members to promote and grow their businesses while building firm, personal connections. Through supporting our local businesses, we are supporting the wider community by encouraging local spend.”

“We look forward to celebrating with the other finalists at the awards night event!” says Ms Legg.

Silverdale Shopping Centre Build Progressing

The building progress of the new Silverdale Shopping Centre is on schedule, with the first stage set to open in March 2024.

The local project will feature 8,500 square metres of retail space, including Woolworths and 27 specialty stores. 468 car parking spaces will be available, featuring 5,000 square metres of basement parking. Buterin L’Estrange is the builder of the commercial project.

Up to 50 people are currently working simultaneously on the shopping centre and it is expected to be completed within one year of the first day of construction. It has been described as the biggest project in the area since the construction of Warragamba Dam.

Silverdale Shopping Centre will feature a great variety of shops such as a takeaway, personal trainer, real estate, delicatessen, post office, café, barber, nail salon, tobacconist, discount shop, medical centre/pharmacy, dentist, phone repair kiosk, food court (6 eateries) and of course, Woolworths.

The underground parking will feature a high roof, giving greater access to bigger vehicles.

A state-of-the-art ‘End of Trip’ Change Facility will be built, giving locals features such as showers to assist with their needs.

Once opened, it is expected that the new shopping centre will accommodate 400 employees, creating jobs for the local community.

Owner Bruno Lopreiato first moved to the area in 1986. He oversaw the building and construction of the first shopping centre in Silverdale.

“We are happy with the progress so far. Growth supports the area. It has been necessary when moving forward”, Bruno told the Mulgoa Valley Gazette. It has been mixed emotions for Bruno and his family, watching the old shopping centre close to make way for the new one.

“We are sorry that we had to pull down the old centre. We kept it open as long as we could. It had to be done in order to build a bigger and better shopping service for the community, that will employ more locals”, he concluded. Look out for further updates with the new Silverdale Shopping Centre in the coming months.

The NSW Rural Fire Service is hosting its annual Get Ready Weekend this month, over the weekend of Saturday 16 September and Sunday 17 September. Local RFS Brigades are opening their doors to assist residents to review bush fire survival plans and provide information to better prepare for the upcoming bush fire season.

Brigades across the Cumberland and Macarthur areas, incorporating the local government areas of Penrith, Blacktown, Fairfield, Camden, Liverpool, and Campbelltown, will be opening their doors for residents and landholders to meet local volunteer firefighters, and offer the opportunity to discuss bush fire survival plans and also learn about the new Fire Danger Rating System which has been rolled out across NSW.

Of particular concern this season will be the heightened risk of grass fires, and it is important for landholders to ensure that land is prepared to mitigate the risk of fast-moving grass fires. Grass fires move three times faster than bush fires, which makes them particularly dangerous.

Brigades will be hosting events at local Brigade stations, shopping centres, and other public areas. Information regarding what your local RFS Brigade has planned will be posted in advance of Get Ready Weekend on the NSW Rural Fire Service website.

You can also keep an eye out for your local RFS Brigade on their Facebook pages.

Less Stress and Tears: Tips for Shopping with Young Kids

Most parents have endured the sheer panic and embarrassment of having a child cry and scream in the middle of the supermarket. The good news is that shopping centre meltdowns can be prevented with a little pre-planning. Follow these tips for a more peaceful shopping experience.

Tip #1: Choose the time of day wisely

Consistent routines support young children to adapt to the rhythm of the day. Hungry or tired children are more likely to struggle with simple tasks. Avoid going to the shops during your child’s regular meal or rest times. If necessary, bring a packed snack to satisfy hungry tummies.

Tip #2: Enrichment, enrichment, enrichment!

Young children are little learning machines always curious to explore. Keep children busy at the shops by giving your child a simple shopping list, having your child pick and count items and/or pack bags at the counter.

Tip #3: Have simple ground rules

Before leaving for the day, give your child 1-3 simple ground rules phrased in the positive. For example, “we’re going to the shops this morning. You need to stay next to Mum/Dad the whole time and walk, not run.” Have your child repeat the rules back to you to check understanding. Afterwards, review the rules together to discuss what went well and what could improve future shopping trips.

Tip #4: Effectively use rewards

Parents fall into three traps when it comes to rewards: Too expensive, too far in the future and too vague. Young children live in the moment and will only connect behaviour to a reward when its immediate. Rewards don’t always cost money; often the best reward we can offer children is our time and attention. In explaining rewards to children, avoid vagaries like “be good”. You must outline which specific behaviours that will attract rewards. For example, “if you stay next to Mum/Dad for the whole shop, we will play at the park afterwards.”

Any young child can turn from a hindrance to a helper when given guidance, age-appropriate responsibilities, and effective rewards for cooperation.

Springtime Flea Frenzy

Spring is here and it’s time to get the jump on fleas. Have you ever struggled with keeping your pet flea-free? Don’t be alarmed, you’re not the only one. During the warmer months fleas are particularly common. They make our pet’s lives itchy and uncomfortable. The answer to keeping fleas off your pet is simple – prevention.

What are fleas?

Fleas are tiny, dark brown parasitic insects that infest the coat and skin of pets. They can jump up to 150 times their own length, making the transfer of fleas between your pets difficult to prevent. Their remarkable jumping skills also allow them to transit easily from surrounding environments to your pet.

How do I know if my pet has fleas?

One of the first signs of a flea infestation in your pet is itching. On inspection of your pet’s coat, you will likely see one or more fleas moving around on the surface of your pet’s skin. You may also notice tiny black particles that look like dirt; these could be flea droppings. An adult female flea lays an average of 20 to 30 eggs each day.

How do pets get fleas?

Fleas form cocoons which can remain dormant for astonishingly long periods of time and begin to emerge in the warmer months. Fleas inhabit the garden, carpet, and furniture until they are able to hitch a ride on your pet. They jump great distances to find a host and bite both pets and humans.

Why is it important to treat and prevent fleas?

Fleas are the number one cause of skin disease in pets and can cause problems ranging from simple itchiness to weeping sores, scaly skin, and infection. Some animals are allergic to flea bites (a condition known as Flea Allergy Dermatitis), where one bite sets off an auto-immune reaction. All skin conditions require veterinary treatment. Fleas breed at an enormous rate. The fleas you see on your dog represent only 5-10% of the fleas within their environment. The rest of the population is represented in the egg and larval stages found in your carpets, furniture, bedding, and garden.

The lifecycle explained:

Only 5% of fleas live in the environment as an adult and 95% of fleas live as eggs, larvae, or pupae. For effective flea control, it is essential to break the lifecycle in the environment.

Adult Fleas – jump onto your dog or cat, feed on their blood and then start laying eggs.

Eggs – one female lays an average of 30 eggs per day, which drop off into carpets and bedding before hatching.

Larvae – the hatched eggs release larvae which move away from light, deeper into carpets and under furniture before developing into pupae. The larvae feed on organic debris and at this stage can consume tapeworm eggs, allowing them to become an intermediate host for the development of tapeworms.

This lifecycle can take as little as two to three weeks and as long as 12 months. To rid your pet and household from fleas, you must break this cycle.

How do I protect my pet from fleas?

Prevention is the key to flea control. There are many different flea products available to purchase, so choosing the right one for your pet type and age is essential. Preventatives come as

‘spot on’ applications that are easy to use and last three to four weeks or oral tablets that work as an effective ‘birth control’ for fleas, interrupting the lifecycle. It is sometimes necessary to treat both the pet and the environment.

If your pet is scratching or has skin damage, it is best to have them checked by a vet. Our team at Orchard Hills Veterinary Hospital are fully trained in flea management and can assist you in choosing the product most suitable for your pet.

See What Mulgoa Looked Like 100 Years Ago!

Over 4,600 historic plans of 460 regional towns in NSW — from Bourke to Bega — have just been digitised and made available for the first time on the State Library of NSW’s website.

According to the State Library’s maps expert, Maggie Patton: “Subdivision plans are an absolute goldmine for genealogists and local historians as they allow us to place ourselves in the past — on a street, in a town, where we once lived, where our ancestors established themselves.”

“What’s more, they are filled with fascinating details like property prices, town descriptions and sometimes a photograph,” says Ms Patton.

Subdivision plans were ephemeral items, usually discarded once a development site was sold. Luckily, the State Library has acquired and preserved these 100-year-old plans for the people of NSW and beyond, to access and use.

Dating from as early as the 1880s, up to the 1930s, the plans were produced by real estate agents and auctioneers to advertise new subdivisions and land sales. They range from hand-drawn surveyors’ plans to beautifully designed colour posters.

“They provide a fascinating visual record of how your town was imagined by town planners of the past, and how it has developed and expanded over time,” says Ms Patton.

“Some of the plans are annotated with sales figures, and you can see how public transport or access to shops, parks and local attractions influenced the popularity of a town.

“Estate agents used creative marketing strategies to entice people to regional locations by promoting special events with free transport, refreshments or entertainment for the kids.”

A 1914 plan of Newcastle promotes ‘a Garden suburb’, ‘a Triumph of town planning’, The Riverview Estate at Cowra is ‘one of the choicest residential estates in the progressive town of Cowra. One of the finest agricultural districts in the State’.

For the past 10 years the State Library has been progressively digitising its collection of 40,000+ subdivision plans of suburban and regional NSW with funding support from the NSW Government. These are now publicly available on the Library’s website. Order a print of your suburb

Subdivision plans make great gifts! You can order an archival print of any of the digitised plans from the Library Shop. Simply search your regional town at sl.nsw.gov.au/subdivision, copy the link of your chosen map, and send an enquiry to order your print at library.shop@sl.nsw.gov.au.

LATEST @ LUDDENHAM

Luddenham Road was closed for 8 nights in August to allow the construction of the M12 Bridge over Luddenham Road. The $1.25 billion M12 Motorway is a 16-kilometre project that will run from Northern Road Luddenham to the M7 at Cecil Hills, with direct access to the airport.

Luddenham Progress Association President and Vice President held a meeting with the State Governments recently elected Nathan Hagarty MP (Member for Leppington) to discuss the following issues; Finalise the planning for Luddenham as per state planning proposal and the promise before the election, the New Public High School to be built in Luddenham Village near Park Rd to service Luddenham and surroundings areas of Badgerys Creek, Bringelly, Greendale, Mulgoa, Silverdale and Warragamba. Also, that the Hospital promised for the Aerotropolis should be built in Luddenham along with the new proposed Police Station. As well as support for the proposed Memorial Park on the Cnr Northern Rd, Willmington Rd & Eaton Rd.

Tanya Davies MP also issued the following statement, “Luddenham deserves answers, not empty promises! Despite clear pre-election commitments, the Labor Government’s promise to finalise the Luddenham Village Plan remains unmet. Minister for Planning, Paul Scully’s recent responses in Parliament to my questions avoid responsibility, while the community’s needs are sidelined”.

The Luddenham Show Society recently held their Annual Meeting with the following being elected: President - Rob Heffernan, Snr Vice President - Garry Rogers, Vice Presidents - Tom Heffernan and Harley Wood, Treasurer - Wayne Willmington, and Secretary - Maggie Hillsley.

Last month the Western Sydney International Airport Experience Centre in Luddenham welcomed their 50,000th visitor. Entry to the WSI Experience Centre is FREE. The Centre is open to the public five days a week, Monday to Wednesday, and Saturday & Sunday from 10am to 4pm. Thursday & Friday are closed.

Also, in August SBS program Insight (Not in My Backyard) ran an article regarding the Airport, it featured some Bringelly and Luddenham Residents.

Could Probiotic Yeast Induce Remission of Ulcerative Colitis?

From my previous articles on ulcerative colitis (UC), it’s clear occurrence of UC is influenced by alterations in intestinal microbiota composition. The human gut doesn’t only contain bacteria, but also other microbes that influence gut health, including probiotic yeasts such as Saccharomyces boulardii (S. boulardii). S. boulardii can be found in our food, on fruits such as lychees, mangosteen, and in higher numbers in probiotic foods such as natural kombucha, and milk-kefir.

Mouse models of UC show that S. boulardii supplementation beneficially alters intestinal microbial composition, to reduce intestinal inflammation, which helps prevent intestinal cancers.

In humans, presence of S. boulardii in our intestines can:

1. Push intestinal microbiota toward a healthier composition.

2. Destroy some of the toxic substances secreted by pathogenic bacteria.

3. Prevent pathogenic bacteria binding to intestinal cells.

4. Kill toxic bacteria themselves.

5. Increase intestinal cell secretion of protective antibodies which can bind and remove pathogenic microorganisms.

6. Stimulate intestinal cell metabolism.

7. Lower intestinal inflammation by:

a. blocking proinflammatory immune responses and

b. promoting ant-inflammatory immune pathways

8. Help reduce the risk of colon cancer.

Based on these effects, S. boulardii was studied by Guslandi et al (2000), and found beneficial as a treatment for Crohn’s disease. The same researchers then studied S. boulardii for UC. They took 25 patients on high-dose mesalazine maintenance therapy for UC, who were nevertheless suffering mild-moderate UC flare-ups. Patients were continued on mesalazine but were given an additional 250mg S. boulardii 3 x daily, for 4 weeks.

After 4 weeks, 68% (17/25) patients achieved clinical remission. Each patient also underwent an endoscopic examination to show that their bowel wall had actually healed.

This study was a small, open-labelled, and not placebocontrolled, so definite conclusions cannot be drawn, and larger controlled trials should be done. However, given S. boulardii was able to restore remission in most patients who had failed to remain in remission on mesalazine alone, the result is highly encouraging.

Given this, the inclusion of appropriate S. boulardii probiotics or probiotic foods into the diet, as an intervention for people suffering from UC seems a simple, low cost, accessible, and sensible intervention, with a reasonable likelihood of beneficial outcomes, and low likelihood of harm.

Shaheen Aumeer-Donovan (Practice Manager) & Philip Aumeer-Donovan (Clinical Manager and Podiatrist)

Biomechanical Assessments (Part 2)

A biomechanical assessment is a series of investigations conducted by a podiatrist to ascertain how the structure and function of a patient’s feet, lower legs, and lifestyle factors contribute to issues they are having.

What is involved?

History

A sound understanding of family history, onset, duration and intensity of pain, treatments already tried, etc., is an essential first step. Do not leave anything out, even if it seems insignificant, as this information might assist the podiatrist in eliminating or highlighting certain causes as the source of the discomfort right away.

Foot structure

We note any deformity or prominent structures in the foot that may be contributing to the discomfort.

Muscle testing

We see how strong and how flexible the muscles are. Too little or too much flexibility or strength can be problematic.

Joint range of motion

We see how the joints are functioning. Again, too little, or too much movement can be an issue.

Gait analysis

We watch the patient walk to see how pressures in the feet transfer during the normal motion of walking (or running), and such things as whether you are compensating because of an issue and causing a secondary injury.

Footwear assessment

Wearing patterns on the soles or inside of the footwear can indicate the kinds of pressure the feet are under. Assessing footwear is also important in determining whether incorrect footwear is contributing to discomfort, and if a different style or some modifications will be of benefit.

Imaging

We examine any imaging reports, like x-ray, ultrasound, or MRI. Sometimes we like to see the images (particularly x-ray) ourselves to check for anything not queried on the original referral. Sometimes we will refer for imaging to confirm or eliminate possible causes of discomfort based on our initial assessment.

What about treadmills, pressure plates and scanners?

Our opinion is that there is still no technology available that can replace a sound understanding of foot mechanics and keen observation. In fact, we have found that relying on a computer to tell us an answer, is not only much less accurate than our own skills, but having those fancy gadgets can mean that a podiatrist loses their fundamental understanding over time and they can become lazy, relying on percentages rather than the patient’s unique foot function to guide their treatment. It also needlessly causes extra cost for the patient.

FOOD 4 THOUGHT Brisket Boys

25/2115 Castlereagh rd, Penrith NsW

Michelle and I had the pleasure of dining at Brisket Boys on Castlereagh Road in Penrith.

When we entered the venue, Mark and his team greeted us with a smile and you could tell that they are enthusiastic about customer service.

While browsing the menu, the aromas coming from the smoker were mouth-watering and we were excited about our meats along with sides. We shared the meat feast for two which consisted of a selection of meats along with some sides.

We chose the following meats.

Pork belly, Beef Brisket, Cheddar and Jalapeno Sausage, Chicken Wings, Pulled Pork Burnt Ends and finally Mac and Cheese and Potato Salad.

Now, let us talk about the food—the main star of any barbecue venue. Brisket Boys certainly did not disappoint in this department. The Pulled Pork was incredibly tender and succulent, bursting with flavour. Each bite melted in my mouth, leaving me craving for more. The Barbecue Beef Brisket was equally exceptional, perfectly smoked and seasoned to perfection. The smoky aroma and the rich, juicy meat were a match made in barbecue heaven.

The Burnt Brisket Ends were amazing and had so much flavour. The secret sauce that accompanied this delight was sweet with a smoky flavour and slightly spicy.

The Cheddar and Jalapeno Sausage was spicy and the cheddar within the sausage gave extra flavour to this delight. I have not experienced this type of sausage previously and I enjoyed the aroma and amazing taste from it.

But the delights did not stop there. The Potato Salad was a delightful accompaniment, boasting a perfect balance of creaminess and tanginess. The Mac and Cheese, a classic comfort food, was a cheesy delight that oozed with flavour.

Finally, the Chicken Wings on this platter were juicy, crisp on the outside and had a slightly tangy flavour when I first took a bite. The meat was tender, not too chewy and I enjoyed the wings.

I give Brisket Boys a ten out of ten for customer service, a pleasant selection of music and an experience I will never forget.

Small Club with Big Ambitions

Mulgoa Valley Cricket Club are set for their biggest year yet, with the 2023/24 season starting this month.

The local club enter several teams to compete in the Nepean District Cricket Association (NDCA) Summer Competition, which takes to the pitch on the 16th and 17th September. They also compete in NDCA’s separate T20 Cricket Competition, where they have tasted success winning twice in the last three years.

Last season would see the Swans field two senior teams – one in 4th Grade and one in 8th Grade. They ran their yearly Cricket Blast program for kids aged 10 or under, to try their hand at cricket in a fun, safe, and supervised environment.

“We were fortunate to see both our senior teams feature in the Grand Finals, with our 8th Grade team taking out the NDCA 8th Grade Premiership. The club also had our best year yet with our Cricket Blast program. It was great to see our largest group of kids thus far, all having a great time out in the fresh air”, said Adam Miletic, Secretary of Mulgoa Valley Cricket Club.

They are looking forward to continued success and growth for the season ahead.

“We’re looking forward to hopefully seeing both our teams from last year back out on the cricket field and playing as well as they did last season, along with maybe a few new players or teams”, he explained.

“We hope to see continued growth in kids joining our Cricket Blast program. This program is typically held over 5 to 7 weeks across November and December, from 6:00pm to 7:00pm on Friday afternoons at Sales Park in Luddenham. It’s a great program for kids and parents, with lots of activities centred on an informal introduction to the basics of cricket. The program concludes with some fun games and a BBQ for all kids and parents in the final session”, Adam continued.

Registrations are still open and can be made via the link at: https://www.playhq.com/cricket-australia/register/47c503.

“It’s helpful for our Club to receive registrations before September, to assist us with team planning, but we’re happy to accept any late registrations on a casual or part-time basis throughout the season”, he concluded.

For more information, find them on Facebook at facebook. com/mulgoacricket or contact the club via email at mulgoa. cricket1@gmail.com.

I couldn’t find my car keys. It happens to me all the time. Fortunately, I have one of those devices on my set of keys that will buzz when I lose them. I have an app on my phone that rings my keys. Since I lose everything, I have one in my briefcase, house keys, car keys and even in my Bible.

Today it was the car keys. As I walked around the house, the app was able to connect with the keys. I followed the sound initially towards the bedrooms, then towards the laundry and, as I got closer, then I could hear the sound coming from inside the washing machine.

How stupid I felt! I had left the keys in my pocket, and they were now drenched. Quickly, I got them out and put them in a container of rice to dry them out. I felt pretty stupid. I had put the clothes in the machine but totally forgot about the keys.

There are moments in life when we think we have everything under control, but the truth is that we have made a mess of things. God knows that we make a mess of things all the time, not just little things but big things as well. He even knows how we make a mess of our relationship with him. He is the one who, in Jesus Christ, has searched us out and rescued us from the mess we have made no matter what it is.
