From 5-year-old first-timers to 85-year-old veterans, the club offers a place for everyone to chase personal bests, set records, and enjoy the thrill of competition — all while having fun, building friendships, and laying the foundation for success in any sport.

The club is gearing up for another exciting season, with registrations for the 2025–26 season having opened 1 August for returning members and 8 August for new members. To maintain safety and competition integrity, registration limits apply to some age groups. Prospective athletes are encouraged to contact the club to confirm availability.

Welcoming participants aged 5 to 85, Camden Athletics fosters a vibrant and inclusive community. Weekly competitions will be held on Friday nights at the Narellan Sports Hub from September 2025 to March 2026, with a rotating roster of events. Competition begins 5 September for athletes aged six and above, while the youngest competitors — their Tiny Tots — will start on 12 September.

Community connection is at the heart of Camden Athletics Club, which is proudly supported by 12 local sponsors (at time of submission) whose values align with the club’s vision. The club also supports numerous local schools throughout the year by providing athletics equipment and facilities through school bookings made via Camden Council.

Members can access training across a range of track and field events, delivered by an experienced coaching team at scheduled times during the week. A fresh, user-friendly club website will also be launched soon, offering improved access to information.

Camden Athletics is proud to host major competitions, including the Winter Track Series, Primary Schools Carnival, Zone Championships, and Regional Championships.

Behind the scenes, more than 20 passionate committee members volunteer their time to keep the club running smoothly. Age managers and parent helpers also play a vital role in ensuring competition nights are efficient, enjoyable, and memorable for all athletes.

Ambulance Upgrade

COMMUNITY WIN: GLEDSWOOD HILLS HIGH SCHOOL OPEN!

Contact Tanya

I’m incredibly excited to announce that Gledswood Hills High School is open!

The new ambulance station for Oran Park and surrounding suburbs is officially under planning!

I’m pleased to announce that a site has been purchased for the new ambulance station, and a construction tender has been awarded. Building is expected to begin soon.

After 12 years of delays and broken promises by the former Liberal government, the new temporary high school has been delivered.

Gledswood Hills High School will be operating out of Gregory Hills Primary School until 2027, when the permanent site for the high school is expected to open.

Land has also been chosen for the permanent site for Gledswood Hills High School.

I know how important healthcare infrastructure is to our Camden community. The growing population in Camden and lack of existing health infrastructure means an additional ambulance station is needed desperately, with increasing demand being put on Campbelltown Hospital, which is already under immense pressure.

tanyadaviesmp tanyadavies.com.au

As a former teacher, I know how important it is to have access to a great education at a local school, and I’m working hard to ensure that every child in our area is able to receive the best schooling experience they can.

Adequate services must be provided for the people who live in new suburbs, and since their establishment, areas like Gregory Hills, Gledswood Hills, Oran Park and surrounding areas of Harrington Park and Cobbitty have been largely neglected.

REBUILDING PUBLIC EDUCATION IN CAM

The Minns Labor Government is getting on with the job of delivering much needed upgrades to 15 schools across Camden.

TEACHER VACANCIES DOWN

Man Charged Over Alleged Child Grooming and Possession of Child Abuse Material

A man faced court recently charged over the alleged grooming of a teenage girl and possession of child abuse material.

These upgrades are part of the Minns Labor Government’s work to rebuild public education in NSW after 12 years of Liberal Government

On Monday (21 July 2025), officers from Auburn Police Area Command commenced an investigation after reports a 13-year-old girl had been speaking to a man, not known to her, on a social media site over a three-day period during which intimate images were allegedly shared.

Following inquiries, officers executed a search warrant at a home in Oran Park at 9.30am (Tuesday 22 July 2025), and the occupant, a 23-year-old man, was arrested.

Teacher vacancies have been slashed by over 40 percent in NSW public schools.

This new ambulance station will improve response times and provide the world-class healthcare that everyone in Camden – and New South Wales – deserves. I’m proud to be getting this upgrade off the ground, and I look forward to seeing this project as it continues.

If you’d like to chat about this issue, or if there’s anything I can help you with, please don’t hesitate to contact me at my office on 4655 3333 or at camden@parliament.nsw. gov.au.

When the Minns Labor Government says that we want to ensure every student has access to a world class education, we mean it – and that’s proven right here in Camden.

ECONOMIC BOOST FOR ORAN PARK

It was great to get along to the official opening of the new Oran Park Hotel.

This is one of the largest hotels in NSW and includes a rooftop cocktail bar, two gold glass cinemas each taking 40 people and a high-end steak house.

It’s been several years in the making and will provide a massive economic boost for the area.

Congratulations to Momento Hospitality CEO Marcello Colosimo and his team for making it all possible.

I’d like to pass on my congratulations to 25 organisations which have been awarded grants under the Australian Government’s 2024-25 Volunteer Grants Program. $10 million was made available to 151 electorates, with more than $66,000 of that allocated to the electorate of Hume to support the efforts of volunteers. If you would like more information about how your organisation can access grant funding, please contact my office in Camden.

During a search of the home, officers seized electronic devices which are alleged to contain child abuse material.

The man was taken to Narellan Police Station and charged with four offences,

• Procure child under 14 years for unlawful sexual activity

• Procure child under 14 years to produce child abuse material

• Possess child abuse material (two counts)

He was refused bail to appear at Campbelltown Local Court (Wednesday 23 July 2025).

Gledswood Hills High School Construction Progresses

The Minns Labor Government is powering ahead delivering better schools for our children, including 21 new and upgraded schools that will begin construction this term.

The new Gledswood Hills High School is one of the suites of new and upgraded schools with works due to commence before the end of Term 3.

The permanent high school will open Day 1, Term 1 2027 and will include:

• Modern classrooms and support classrooms for 1,000 students

• Specialist classrooms for science, wood and metal work, food technology and music and visual arts

• Multipurpose hall and covered outdoor learning area

• Library and administration facilities.

This is part of the Minns Labor government’s record pipeline of new and upgraded schools, with 21 major capital works projects representing a $1.4 billion investment set to get underway across NSW this school term.

It follows more than a decade of neglect under the Liberals and Nationals that promised new schools and upgrades to communities that were never delivered.

Projects set to commence construction before the end of Term 3 across the state include six brand new high schools –four in Western Sydney and two in regional NSW.

Additionally, major upgrades will begin at five high schools and 10 primary schools across both Sydney and the regions.

Together these projects will deliver more than 400 new classrooms to booming suburbs, plus new halls, libraries, performance spaces, science labs, VET facilities, wood and

metal workshops, and sports facilities.

Four of the 10 primary school upgrades will also include a new public preschool as part of the Minns Labor Government’s historic commitment to build 100 public preschools by 2027.

The Minns Labor Government is delivering these projects as part of a record $9 billion investment in school infrastructure over four years in the 2025-26 Budget.

This follows the government’s delivery of more teachers for our children by reducing teacher vacancies by 40 per cent, resulting in the number of cancelled classes recorded in NSW nearly halving since the government took office.

This is part of the Minns Labor Government’s ongoing work to deliver better schools and more teachers across NSW by investing in the essential infrastructure that the Liberals and Nationals failed to provide – like state-of-the-art public schools and public preschools which ensure families can access a world class local public education regardless of their postcode.

“In 2023, I made an election promise to the people of Camden that I would deliver this necessary infrastructure. Two years later, we have a temporary high school built and open to Year 7, and a permanent build on the way.”

“As a former teacher, I know how important it is to have access to local, good-quality education. I’m incredibly excited to see this project get underway and to deliver the people of Camden another school where their kids can thrive.”

“I’m committed to making sure the people of Camden have access to worldclass education, and I’m so proud to be part of a government that prioritises delivering this education to our area” said Member for Camden Sally Quinnell.

Camden Meals on Wheels cares for their community and are proud to support people’s independence and social engagement. Many perceive them as a meal service and whilst they do offer a diverse menu, they also provide transport services and social support services to eligible community members across the entire Camden Local Government Area (LGA).

Subsidised meals are available for seniors through their Government funded packages, however their meal service is accessible for anyone residing in the Camden LGA not receiving a Government funded package. The cost of the meals include delivery, so their meals are an affordable option for anyone that requires assistance in this way. They have over 100 options and cater for modified diets and allergies. Meals are delivered frozen or hot by one of their friendly volunteers. As their motto states, they are “More than just a Meal” as no meal is left personally unreceived and deliveries act as a welfare check.

Their transport services and individual social support services and activities are available for seniors across the Camden LGA receiving a Government funded package. They can get you to where you need to go and back for a small fee and provide transportation outside the Camden LGA. Their individual social support services and activities can be tailored to meet your needs, or you can join in at their in-house or community activities.

All their services are delivered by their team of dedicated volunteers. Book Review Your

All-Day Nightmare

Author:R.L Stine

All-Day Nightmare is a choose your own adventure book by R.L Stine. Its storyline revolves around you having terrible nightmares at night, but waking up in an abandoned, strange house with another boy, whom you decide to call Max, as both of you can’t remember a thing about yourselves, not even your own name! You are then faced with your first choice: answer a knock on the door, or leave it? From there, the story warps into different storylines.

With dozens of choices, you are spoilt for choice… literally. The storylines range from finding out you and Max were victims of an alien abduction, and the aliens brainwashed you. Somehow, you crashed their spaceship, and they’re coming for you. Or are you and Max werewolves, you and your wolf pack being chased by hunters? Finally, are you and Max secret agents, trapped between which side to join. The choice is yours, with over 20 endings, all written to make sense according to the storyline.

In most of the endings, you and Max find your real identities, and how you came to be there. I myself enjoyed the alien storyline the best. Overall, All-Day Nightmare delighted me with its fragilely written storyline, and I would highly recommend it.

Understanding Snake Activity this Season

With Spring now upon us, Western Sydney residents can anticipate increased snake sightings in bushlands, grasslands, backyards, and houses. The snake season traditionally falls between September to March, but often varies due to temperatures.

Sean Cade, from Australian Snake Catchers, has over 20 years of experience and assures residents that these encounters should be viewed as informative rather than alarming. "Snakes are mostly present for shelter or food and are generally just passing through a property," Sean explained.

The Sydney Basin is home to a diverse range of snakes. "Most people in Western Sydney will come across the Eastern Brown Snake, Red Bellied Black Snake, Yellow Faced Whip Snake, and the Golden Crowned Snake," Sean said. Other snakes in the Sydney Basin include the Broad Headed Snake, Tiger Snake, Marsh Snake, and Death Adder.

Sean offered some basic tips to minimise the chances of encountering snakes:

• Avoid approaching snakes.

• Refrain from trying to catch or harm them.

• Ensure children and pets maintain a safe distance.

• Clear any clutter or trash around your home.

• Maintain clean lawns and store firewood at a distance from the house.

Correcting common misconceptions, Sean explained that the presence of a Red Bellied Black Snake doesn't necessarily mean you won't encounter an Eastern Brown Snake. “This is a common statement which is incorrect. If the snakes are a similar length, they cannot eat each other. And Eastern Brown Snakes will also eat a Red Bellied Black Snake,” he said.

Sean's dedication to his profession stems from a love for wildlife and a passion to share the wonders of native fauna with his children. "Although many are hesitant to deal with snakes, they play a valuable role in our ecosystem. They, like any animal, sometimes need assistance,” he said.

"Snakes don't need to be feared. With a little understanding they are quite fascinating creatures. This time of year, they are breeding also and are quite active," Sean explained.

“Due to urban development, encounters may increase due to habitat loss” he added.

If someone is suspected of having a snake bite, (not sure if it is a scratch or bitten) apply a compression bandage, keep patient still and calm and call 000.

“There is no need to catch the snake for identification” ended Sean.

If you need expert and secure removal of snakes or reptiles, reach out to Sean and his crew through their Facebook Page at www.facebook.com/australiansnakecatchers/ or call Sean at 0410 761 575 or Freya at 0452 492 836.

Self-esteem

Do you struggle with your self-worth, have trouble setting boundaries, feel exhausted and depressed from putting others’ needs in front of your own most of the time?

Self-esteem is one’s belief in their abilities and qualities and is synonymous with confidence. A healthy self-esteem is linked with resilience, feelings of life satisfaction, and an ability to have healthy relationships. Low self-esteem is associated with people pleasing, poor boundaries, stress and depression, whilst self-esteem that is exceedingly high can be linked to behaviours and feelings of entitlement and disregard for the feelings of others and is known as ‘low empathy’.

Self-esteem constantly fluctuates and is impacted by numerous factors. Having a low self-esteem which tends to be more constant can develop, through regular exposure, to criticism. Whether it be from dialogue we received from family members through our childhood, an overly critical boss, coach or instructor, or a partner who is emotionally abusive and tends to focus on our flaws and shortcomings, it is common that

ORAN PARK PROBUS CLUB

Oran Park Probus Club

Oran Park Probus Club is one of many Probus Clubs throughout Australia and New Zealand. Probus is a social club for retired and semi-retired people, keeping members connected and active through each Club’s programme of group activities and events. These vary from Club to Club.

At Oran Park Probus Club, members enjoy outings and tours by coach, train and car. Members carpooled to visit the Mushroom Tunnels at Mittagong last month, a very enjoyable tour, and every outing always includes a good lunch! We have various activity groups for walking, craft, movies, theatres and trivia. We enjoy Coffee and Chat and pub lunches within the local area. Sometimes we travel a bit further away for specialty dining. There’s also the Boyz Club, exclusive to our male members. They can lunch together and talk about sport and other interests in a relaxed setting.

Joining a Probus group may help older people experiencing loneliness connect with others and form new friendships. In older adults, loneliness can be caused by the loss of loved ones,

these external sources can often become internalised, leading to relentless harsh and critical self-talk, which is damaging to our wellbeing.

Behaviour Changer - tips to help build self esteem

• Identify sources that have fed your low self-esteem and try to limit exposure. For example, if a partner tends to give criticism when you ask them how you look, don’t ask for their thoughts or feedback.

• Engage in tasks and activities that you shine in and savour your achievements

• Identify resources that nourish your self-esteem and increase your exposure, i.e. friends or family members who are encouraging and who focus on your strengths

• Identify one thing per day that you did well and acknowledge it

• If complimented - own it and acknowledge your effort

• Engage in acts of self-kindness or pleasure: reading, soak in the bath, listen to music.

retirement, living alone, poor health and decreasing mobility. Loneliness is an emotional response, when someone is sad about being alone or not belonging or feeling that no one understands you. It is a common but often overlooked mental health issue and can lead to depression. Apart from joining a Probus Club, if you are feeling lonely, you could try to reconnect with old friends, try volunteering, join a sports club, find a community gardening or bushcare group, or a Men’s Shed. Life becomes meaningful again when you start to make new friends, enjoy yourself and have fun!

Why not join us at a monthly meeting of Oran Park Probus Club, stay for lunch and chat with some of our members. Find out about the activities and events on offer and start making some new friendships. Oran Park Probus Club meets at Wests Lakeside Golf Club, 50 Raby Road, Gledswood Hills, commencing at 10.00 am on the first Tuesday of every month except November, when the Meeting would clash with Melbourne Cup events. There is no Meeting in January. We have a guest speaker every month with a wide variety of topics, there is always something to suit everybody.

Davies Celebrates Completion of New Playground at Barramurra Public School

Tanya Davies MP, Member for Badgerys Creek, visited Barramurra Public School to explore the new dedicated playground with inbuilt equipment, courtesy of $54,394 she secured through the Community Building Partnership Program.

“I’m pleased to have supported this project and am thrilled to see the students keeping active and enjoying this fun and interactive new playground,” stated Mrs Davies.

“I commend the school's amazing P&C for their partial funding of this exciting new playground,” concluded Mrs Davies.

Principal Mr Chad Lindsay stated, “We are absolutely thrilled to see our students enjoying the new playground, which has quickly become a vibrant hub of activity, creativity, and connection during break times. This wonderful addition to our school environment was made possible thanks to the Community Building Partnership Program and the generous support of Tanya Davies and the Barramurra Public School’s P&C. On behalf of our students, staff, and families, I extend our sincere gratitude. Investments like this not only enhance physical wellbeing but also helps us create a more engaging and dynamic learning experience for our students and contribute to the joyful spirit of our school community.”

The school’s P&C stated, “The installation of this new playground equipment will greatly enhance facilities for our local community and allow for increased physical activity within a small space. It is vital to maximise the space we have for our students to be physically active, and this playground will provide a safe and accessible interactive play space for children to engage in physical activity, foster social interactions, and support cognitive development. From our youngest learners to our senior students, this space will be a valuable addition that benefits the whole school community.”

This new playground is among the latest of many important investments Mrs Davies has secured for students and school communities in the Badgerys Creek electorate.

Mrs Davies continues her work towards securing further investment and positive outcomes for our local community.

Spring into Cobbitty Markets

The change has begun. The leaves are budding, the soil is warming up and as we roll into September with the winter winds behind us (and hopefully the rain and cold with it), we step into spring! What better way to enjoy the change of season, than to go to the Cobbitty Markets, which are held on the first Saturday of each month from March-December.

Cobbitty Markets is a volunteer market; run and organised solely by a committee of volunteers since 1982 when the markets began. Their aim is to provide a great local market as a service to the community and all funds raised are returned to needy organisations and people in the local and Sydney areas.

With around one hundred and fifty stalls, each month offering a wide variety of products, there is every chance you will bag yourself a bargain.

From fresh food, coffee, fresh flowers and plants, spreads and jams, wine, biscuits and cakes, woodwork, breads, pet treats, candles and homewares - there is an array of highquality goods made by local artisans.

“You can even enjoy your coffee and watch local musicians perform. It’s a lovely atmosphere to wander through the markets with the live music” said Elyse of Cobbitty Markets.

“We ensure all stalls provide high quality and locally handmade products. We also support local charities, organisations and schools. The market has a nice country feel to it and attracts people from all over” she concluded.

So, put a reminder in your calendar for the first Saturday of the month, grab a friend or two and head to the markets at Cobbitty Public School. 306 Cobbitty Road, Cobbitty.

As spring begins to bloom, September brings a fresh sense of renewal across our community.

Local parks and gardens are bursting back to life, making it a perfect time to enjoy the outdoors.

This month also marks Father’s Day celebrations, school holidays, and the return of community markets and festivals.

Keep an eye out for local events, spring clean-up initiatives, and small businesses featuring in this issue. As always, we love hearing your stories, so if you have something to share, drop us a line.

Let’s continue to support one another by showing up, lending a hand, or simply sharing a smile. Whether it’s a fundraiser, a school fete, or a neighbour in need, it’s the little acts of kindness that strengthen the heart of our towns. Together, we can make this season one of positivity, progress, and genuine community spirit.

Here’s to a vibrant and connected September! “Wherever life plants you, bloom with grace.”
