Thinking LOUD Out Fond Memories of One Week, Three Channels, and No Bill I was recently thinking about what the Fall TV season was like when I was a kid, and I’ve decided that it was much more compelling than today. Every new show from all three networks — OK, the only three networks — debuted during one exciting week.

Now, shows come and go almost as quickly as my hot flashes, making it impossible to either keep up or get hooked. I suppose the thing that bugs me the most is that out of three networks that didn’t cost a cent, there was always something worth watching. Now, armed with more than a hundred channels (and exactly twice that number if you go backwards hoping for different shows, which is something I tend to do despite having a college degree), I can never find anything good to watch. “We pay for this,” I say to my husband. “I know,” says he. Then, after a short pause, he suggests I try going the other way. Thank God for that remote.
