Week’s BEST Technically Challenged I recently moved to Vienna, Austria for a semester as an exchange student and had made an agreement with my mom, that we would use Skype as a means of communication during the semester. One of the first days after arriving she texted me, writing that she had logged on to Skype, asking me if I would like to talk. I logged on to Skype, but quickly noticed that she wasn’t online (needs to be mentioned, that she had used Skype before and had received thorough instructions by my brother several times). I texted her back, writing I couldn’t see that she was online. A few minutes later she called me on my Danish phone (meaning insane roaming charges for the both of us) asking for help. Thinking LOUD Out Spandex. I find that word almost as unattractive as the material — which, in my opinion, is the textile equivalent of spray paint. I mean, let’s face it ladies, if you have two ounces of pudge, spandex is not your friend. It’s like a neon motel sign which, instead of flashing vacancy, flashes full-to-overflowing, followed by as you can clearly see in smaller, but equally bright letters. Hating spandex as much as I do, I have scoured the stores for tops in other fabrics, but it seems that the only alternative to spandex is that baby doll style that makes all but the youngest and slimmest among us look pregnant. I won’t even wear one of those in the privacy of my own house for fear that my husband will come home, think we’re expecting, and throw away his viagra. So if you see some poor woman out and about in nothing but a very long t-shirt and knee highs, it’s probably me. Hope you like my shoes.

Seeking Artists For Its Eighth Annual Juried Art Show The healing Power of arT Research suggests that exposing patients to creative arts can improve their state-of-mind and actually enhance, and possibly speed up the healing process. Hospital for Special Care understands the importance of implementing a comprehensive art program that unites art with patient care, while at the same time helps promote art and artists within an entire community.

ENTRY FEE: $25.00 first piece; $40.00 for two submissions. Checks may be made payable to: Hospital for Special Care, Joy of Art! Fund on the memo line please. ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: • Artists may submit one to two, two-dimensional original works in the media of oil, watercolor, pastel, acrylic, mixed media, pen and ink or graphics. • Work must be framed and suitably wired for hanging – no brackets. • Size of each piece shall be limited to 42 inches (framed) in any direction. • Artist must have completed works with in the past three (3) calendar years. • Dollar value of work must be determined by the artist. • The Juror and/or the Joy of Art! Committee reserves the right to determine the eligibility of the submitted work (no nudes or religious overtones). ENTRY AND REMOVAL DATES: • Drop-off/Receiving: Artwork will be received only on Wednesday, October 20 and Thursday, October 21 between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Work must be hand-delivered. • Completed registration forms must accompany the entry. • No work may be removed until the conclusion of the exhibition. • Pick-up of exhibited works: Thursday, December 9 and Friday, December 10 between the hours of 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. • No works will be released without a signed receipt or proper identification.
