Mental health is an essential part of overall well-being, yet it is often overlooked. In a world that places significant emphasis on physical health, mental health deserves equal attention and care. As we enter Mental Health Awareness Month this May, it’s the perfect time to focus on the importance of mental health, understand the stigma surrounding it, and recognize how seeking support can make a difference.
Mental health refers to our emotional, psychological, and social wellbeing. It affects how we think, feel, and act, and it plays a vital role in how we handle stress, relate to others, and make decisions. Just as we pay attention to our physical health, our mental health needs care, attention, and nurturing.
Good mental health allows us to thrive, maintain healthy relationships, and cope with the ups and downs of life. On the other hand, poor mental health can impact every aspect of life, from our personal relationships to our ability to function at work or in school. Mental health challenges, like anxiety, depression, and trauma, are common and can affect anyone, regardless of age, background, or circumstance. It’s crucial not to ignore the signs of mental health struggles, as early intervention can lead to better outcomes.
Despite the fact that mental health challenges are widespread, there is still a significant stigma attached to seeking help. People often fear being judged or misunderstood for experiencing mental health difficulties. This stigma can lead to feelings of shame, isolation, and reluctance to seek professional support.
Unfortunately, this stigma can prevent individuals from accessing the care they need, leading to worsening symptoms and a longer path to recovery. In many communities, mental health issues are still considered taboo, and those who struggle may feel pressured to hide their challenges or “tough it out” alone.
It’s important to understand that mental health challenges are a natural part of the human experience, and just like physical health conditions, they deserve attention and care. The more we talk about mental health openly and without judgment, the more we can break down these barriers and create a culture of understanding, empathy, and support.

May marks National Foster Care Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness about the needs of children in foster care and the families who support them. For Family to Family Adoptions, a licensed, Texas-based agency founded in 2001, the month serves as both a reminder of the challenges children face and a call to action for those willing to open their hearts and homes.
Based in Texas and serving families across the state, Family to Family Adoptions provides both foster care and private adoption services. The agency works with children of all ages through contracts with counties across the state, including Fort Bend and Harris counties. When a child needs placement, Child Protective Services (CPS) contacts the agency to determine if they have an available foster home that meets the child’s needs.
Kirby Matthews, the agency’s foster care director, says the process begins with a referral from CPS. “We find a home that best fits the child,” she explained. “From there, we make sure their medical needs are up to date and create a service plan to help the foster parent meet their specific needs.”
Each case involves a delicate balance of hope, support, and sometimes heartbreak. In one of her earliest cases, Matthews recalls working with a child who had been in foster care for an extended period. The biological mother had disappeared and was not participating in CPS-assigned services. When CPS finally located her, she was given another opportunity to work her service plan.
Family to Family Adoptions works closely with CPS and biological families, helping guide children through the uncertainty of foster care while supporting reunification whenever possible. If parents are unable to meet CPS goals within a year, the agency may begin the adoption process with the current foster family, offering children a chance at permanence and stability.
Matthews hopes that during National Foster Care Month, misconceptions about the system can be corrected. “Most people assume we just want to take children away,” she said. “But fostering is a good thing. It helps kids have a safe and stable home. You’re giving children something they’ve never had the chance to experience—sometimes for the first time in their lives.”
Family to Family Adoptions is actively looking for more foster and adoptive families, especially as the number of children in need continues to rise.

As we approach the special occasions of Mother’s Day and Father’s Day, the importance of honoring our parents takes on a profound significance. These days serve as reminders of the roles our mothers and fathers play in our lives and offer us opportunities to express our gratitude. In many ways, honoring our parents aligns with timeless biblical principles that encourage respect and appreciation. Let’s explore three biblical reasons for honoring our parents and some practical tips for how we can demonstrate this honor effectively.
The first and perhaps most well-known biblical reason to honor our parents is found in the Ten Commandments. In Exodus 20:12 (NIV), it states, “Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you.” This commandment is unique because it includes a promise: long life and prosperity in the land. Honoring our parents is not merely a suggestion; it is a directive from God, underscoring the importance of family relationships in His design for our lives.
On Mother’s Day and Father’s Day, we can put this command into action by verbally acknowledging their sacrifices and contributions. A simple phone call, letter, or heartfelt card can go a long way. Make it a goal to express appreciation—not only for what they have done for you but also for who they are as individuals. Perhaps you could share a specific memory that highlights their impact on your life.
Another reason to honor our parents can be found in Ephesians 6:1-3 (NIV), which reiterates the command to children: “Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. ‘Honor your father and mother’—which is the first commandment with a promise—‘so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.’” This passage emphasizes that honoring our parents is not just about following rules; it reflects our understanding of God’s authority and love.
Honoring our parents reflects our love for God, as it is an expression of obedience to His Word. On these special days, consider planning a family activity that brings everyone together, like a picnic or a special dinner. During this time, you could share personal stories of how your parents’ guidance has helped shape your faith and character. This reinforces the idea that honoring them is tied to honoring God Himself.
The third biblical reason for honoring parents can be found in Colossians 3:20 (NIV): “Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord.” This verse not only highlights pleasing God but also suggests that honoring our parents establishes a precedent for honoring others in our lives. When we learn to respect our parents, we are better prepared to build healthy, respectful relationships with others throughout our lives.
To cultivate this respect, think of ways to involve your children or siblings in honoring your parents. Perhaps they can create handmade gifts or write letters expressing what they admire about their grandparents. This not only strengthens family bonds but also teaches the younger generation the value of honoring those who came before them.
While the biblical principles provide a strong foundation, practical actions can bring this honor to life. Here are some tangible ways to honor your mother and father, particularly around Mother’s Day and Father’s Day:
Acts of Service: Offer to help with chores or errands that may be burdensome. Whether it’s doing household repairs or taking them grocery shopping, these acts communicate love and support.
Listen and Communicate: Spend quality time engaging in meaningful conversations. Sometimes love is spelled T-I-M-E. Ask about their life experiences, lessons learned, and their dreams. This shows you value their wisdom and respect their life journey.
Celebrate Their Interests: Organize a day that focuses on their favorite activities. If your father loves fishing or your mother enjoys gardening, planning related experiences can show them they are cherished.
Share Memories: Create a scrapbook or video montage that highlights special family moments. This not only honors the past but also reinforces the bonds that tie your family together.
Gifts from the Heart: Consider thoughtful gifts that reflect their interests or needs. It can be something simple yet meaningful—a personalized mug, a book by their favorite author, or a subscription to a service they enjoy.
As we celebrate Mother’s Day and Father’s Day, let us remember the biblical principles that guide us in honoring our parents. By expressing our appreciation through words and actions, we not only fulfill God’s commandment but also cultivate a spirit of love, respect, and gratitude within our families. In a world that often rushes past familial relationships, taking the time to honor our parents can create lasting memories and a heritage of love for generations to come.

Q: I used to be able to get and maintain an erection, but now I can’t. Why is that?
A: Erections depend heavily on healthy blood flow— just like your heart. When arteries begin to develop blockages, blood flow becomes restricted. That’s often the root cause of difficulty in getting or maintaining an erection.
Q: Many men try the “blue pills,” but the side effects are awful. Does your treatment have side effects?
A: No, and that’s because our treatment doesn’t travel through the entire bloodstream like pills do. It works locally, which significantly reduces the risk of side effects.
Q: The pills worked for a while but eventually stopped. Why?
A: The body is incredibly smart, it adapts. Over time, your body can build up a tolerance or immunity to those medications, making them less effective or completely ineffective.
Q: How long can a man expect to maintain an erection after using your treatment?
A: On average, our patients maintain an erection for about an hour to an hour and a half. What’s more, even after ejaculation, most men continue to experience a full erection.
Q: I’ve tried everything else with no success. Do you really have a 95% success rate?
A: Actually, our success rate is over 95%. In the past 18 months, we’ve only had four patients we weren’t able to help. That’s why we confidently GUARANTEE results— and if the treatment doesn’t work, there’s no charge.
Q: What does it cost to get started?
A: The initial consultation and test dose with me is $100. After that, costs vary depending on the treatment plan we recommend for you.
