Put on your running shoes for a great cause!
The East Fort Bend Human Needs Ministry’s 8th Annual OutRun Hunger 5K is Saturday, October 4, 2025, in Harvest Green/Richmond.
“Last year, our 7th OutRun Hunger 5K earned $35,000 with 47 sponsors, nearly 500 runners, and several hundred spectators. We’re hoping to increase that in 2025 with more sponsors and more runners,” says Megan Leonhardt, Director of Development for EFBHNM.
“That means we can put dinner on more tables of families facing food insecurity, more backpacks on the backs of children getting ready for back-to-school, and more holiday meals on family tables this coming holiday season.”
Early Bird registration for the timed 5K runs August 1-15 and costs $30, while the Kids Run is $15. The registration price increases to $35 on August 16 and $40 on September 13. (The deadline to guarantee a t-shirt with registration is September 12.)
situations that leave them in need of assistance,” Megan says.
Darren was excited to find a way to support the community doing something he loves. “I started running three years ago. I signed up to run a half-marathon – I thought I’d be one and done,” Darren explains. “Apparently I was the only one who didn’t know how much I’d love and that I’d do it again and again. My friends and family knew I was hooked immediately.”
“Running is a great analogy to life. It’s about discipline. Sometimes you want to give up, but you keep going and it increases the quality of your life,” he continues. “Along with all the physical health benefits of running, so beneficial for mental health as well! This month, I’m running my first world major, the TCS Sydney Marathon.”

Fort Bend neighbors of EFBHNM, Darren and Melissa Stewart, will be running the OutRun Hunger 5K for the first time this year. They have a personal training business, Fitness by Darren & Melissa. “Melissa and I really like what they do for the community, and any organization that gets you up and moving is what we’re about,” Darren says.
EFBHNM’s mission is to address the basic human needs of families facing food insecurity and/or temporary financial crisis in East Fort Bend County. The organization is completely privately funded by individual donors, its resale shop, privately funded grants, and events and fundraisers. In 2024, they assisted almost 15,000 children experiencing food insecurity in our community.
“What we do at EFBHNM is to serve the basic human needs of families in our community in a temporary financial crisis. We see new families each week, and it’s often not who you would expect. So many of our neighbors are affected by job loss, a change in family dynamics, and other unexpected

You never know who may be experiencing a financial crisis or food insecurity. It could be your next door neighbor, a family at church, your child’s grade-school friend.”
Since 1990, EFBHNM has awarded more than $3 million in financial assistance.

Pablo Picasso once said, “Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life.”
What better way to wash away a dusty day than driving by a beautifully designed area right in your own neighborhood.
“My office is in old Sugar Land, very near to the Belknap/ Brookside neighborhood on Brooks Street,” says Realtor Cathy Stubbs. “I drive by the empty lot on the corner every day!”
Imagine if that empty lot turned into an art installation of sorts, a bright, beautiful and useful space to brighten the days of everyone who drives by, and especially to those who stop to enjoy the beauty.
That’s exactly what the Better Block program plans to do with the unused space. They help communities achieve grassroots urban design. They turn simple city blocks into meaningful spaces. And on September 26th, Sugar Land will benefit from this effort.
Better Block, in collaboration with the Sugar Land Civic Arts Division, will bring some artistic flair to the open field at the southeast corner of Brooks Street and Highway 90, right across from the Imperial Historic District.
A longtime proponent of bringing the arts to Sugar Land, Cathy is supportive of the project. The plan is to temporarily activate a site in the Belknap/Brookside neighborhood with features like seating, art installations, and vibrant community gathering spaces. The six-month activation kicks off with two events: September 26 from 6pm–9pm and September 27 from 9am –1pm.
“I’m excited about the energy this project will bring to our historic community. Art brings everything to life. It brings people together in a very unique way,” Cathy says. “And it’s happening at an exciting time, just as the City of Sugar Land has acquired the Imperial Historic District. It’s an inspiring time to live in Sugar Land.”
The Better Block Foundation is a 501(c)3 nonprofit that educates, equips, and empowers communities and their leaders to reshape and reactivate built environments to promote the growth of healthy and vibrant neighborhoods. Learn more at betterblock.org.

Charcuterie Cups! Grazing Tables! Tea Parties! Dessert Boards!
by Nicole Grace
Three years ago, Bee a Little Cheesy started with a simple vision of crafting small, beautifully arranged charcuterie boxes filled with love and flavor. What began as a passion project quickly grew into something much bigger for Miki Stripling, owner of the company.
“Today, we’re proud to create unforgettable grazing experiences for events of up to 300 guests … and we’re just getting started,” Miki says. “As a women-owned, family-run business, the heart of our business has always been in the details. Over the years, we’ve had the honor of serving everything from intimate tea parties and baby showers to NFL events, large corporate functions, weddings, and engagement celebrations. No matter the occasion, every graze table we design is uniquely customized with the client’s vision in mind. No two are ever the same.”
In addition to signature charcuterie spreads, the business expanded their offerings to include a traveling mobile bar, perfect for adding an elevated touch with curated wine, beer, and cocktail service.
“From a cozy gathering with close friends to a grand celebration, we’re equipped to make your experience seamless and delicious,” Miki continues. “We listen, we plan, and we create with purpose because your event deserves something as one-of-a-kind as you are.”
Bee a Little Cheesy is a family affair of powerful women. Miki’s two daughters, ages 25 and 20, help her prep and set up her orders, while Miki’s mom helps make some of the food.
“I learned a lot of my cooking skills from my mom. She loves to cook. She helps me prepare the orders and get them out the door,” Miki says. “She is ready to roll up her sleeves and help us out in any way she can.”
The team even builds dessert boards full of cookies, brownies, mini cheesecakes, and other desserts in a cup. “It’s more than just food to us – it’s a full-sensory, picture-perfect, guest-pleasing experience,” Miki says. “And as we reflect on how far we’ve come, we’re filled with gratitude for every repeat client, referral, and new client who trusts us along the way.”
“Here’s to more moments, more memories, and a little more cheesy magic at every table,” she concludes.

According to a report published by the AAMC (Association of American Medical Colleges) last year, the United States will face a physician shortage of up to 86,000 physicians by 2036. Capital Internal Medicine Associates is proactively expanding its primary care arm, Capital Health and Wellness, to ensure more people have access to primary medical care.
Brothers Dr. Salman Aly and Dr. Sarfraz Aly are the leaders of the Capital Associates practices, which also specialize in wound care, infectious disease, and medical aesthetics.
“With a successful and firmly established primary care location in Sugar Land, we made the decision to extend this fundamental care to other areas as well,” explains Dr. Salman. “That’s our vision – to provide primary care and effortless hospital admissions when needed to people who are currently challenged with finding appropriate care for themselves and their loved ones. There’s a huge need out there.”
The brothers’ expansion plan will have Capital Health and Wellness rooted in 10 to 12 clinics by 2035 to help them fulfill their vision of helping our community stay healthy. “With the population growing so fast, especially those in the 65+ category, our community needs more physicians. Our goal with Capital Health and Wellness is to serve the increased population with primary care while also increasing the range of hospitals our practice can admit to when necessary.”
Capital’s primary care practice handles issues related to diabetes, blood pressure, heart disease, and conducts thorough physical exams. “We see elderly patients and want to ensure they’re safe in

their environments and have home health care, when needed. We have a lot of compassion for our patients,” says Dr. Salman.
To extend their primary care capabilities even further, the brothers created a non-profit that provides healthcare to the uninsured in Matagorda, Fort Bend, Harris, and Wharton counties. It is funded by government grants, contributions from the physicians themselves, and
contributions from the public.
“We started the non-profit based on our experiences when growing up,” says Dr. Salman. “We didn’t have medical insurance. Our father had a heart attack and we had to navigate getting him the care he needed, while figuring out how to pay for it.”
The non-profit program provides: primary care for the indigent; early care for mental health diagnoses; and mother and early childhood care. You can contribute at ucftexas.org and help the Aly brothers help our community get the healthcare they need. The foundation welcomes assistance from private and public donors to continue expanding on their vision.

Board-certified family physician? Check. Licensed professional counselor? Check. Associate professor of counseling ministries at Dallas Theological Seminary? Check. Fan of Fort Bend County? Double check.
Dr. Ekpedeme Wade spent several years in traditional Family Medicine before realizing what she really loved was helping people on a deeper level with their mental health. So, in a time of uncertainty and concern – a time that most people would call a terrible time to open a business –she opened her doors in 2020. It was the uncertainty that made her business successful. “Anxiety and discomfort increased in our world. I just wanted to provide a space where everyone in Fort Bend can see themselves and be comfortable with themselves,” she explains. “2020 was the perfect time to do that.”
A Christian, Dr. Wade thoughtfully chose the name Twelve Two Christian Counseling. The Bible verse said everything she wanted to convey with her business. “We focus on transforming minds. Our business name is actually our business motto!” Dr. Wade says.
If you’ve been in Fort Bend County long, you’re probably familiar with the Brooks Street homes in Sugar Land, with their unique connection to the Imperial Sugar Company. They date back to 1920 when they were built to house sugar refinery employees. The cozy red brick home with its big oak tree in the front yard and plenty of airy light inside was just the perfect place to house Dr. Wade’s office
“I went to Kempner High School and still live in Fort Bend County,” Dr. Wade says. She and her husband of 18 years are raising their two teenagers here. “I love the diversity of Fort Bend for my practice, but also for my children. They have friends from

all different backgrounds and eat all kinds of foods. They get a great academic education and a great life education.”
Perhaps the most popular member of their family is Smokey, the therapy dog. The English Teddybear Goldendoodle loves to greet clients in the office, with his handler, Dr. Wade, nearby. Since Dr. Wade is an MD, she is able to prescribe medication, which can make things easier for her clients.
“Taking your first step takes a lot of courage,” Dr. Wade says. “When you call during office hours, you’ll always reach a soothing, caring person who will take the time to walk through the process with you.”

Toilets. The overused, unsung heroes of our homes. They are used multiple times every day and typically function well, like the workshorses they are.
But what happens when our bathroom’s Old Faithful falters?
The experts at Alan’s Plumbing deal with the following commonly reported toilet problems every day.
Why is my toilet leaking at the base?
• Water accumulation behind the toilet means the shut off valve or supply may be leaking
• Water running down the side or back of the toilet when you flush it, it may be rusty or leaking gaskets
• Water seeping at the base will require a plumber to pull and reset the toilet since this is typically due to a worn out wax seal
Call Alan’s Plumbing to fix any of these problems.
My toilet is clogged. What should I do?
Refrain from trying to flush it more than once to prevent it from overflowing and causing a mess. Plunge the toilet bowl until the obstruction is pushed through. If the water sucks out of the bowl, then you can flush again to ensure
it’s draining normally. If a plunger doesn’t work, call Alan’s.
My toilets are gurgling, slow draining, or there is dirty water backing up into my showers.
These symptoms indicate a main sewer stoppage. Find your sewer cleanout to release its pressure. It’s a four-inch white PVC pipe usually located about four feet from the perimeter of the home, sometimes in a flower bed. It sticks up out of the ground with a cap on it. Once found, you can use pliers or your hand to unscrew the cleanout cap (stand to the side to prevent getting dirty). Taking off this cap will help relieve the pressure backing up into the home until help arrives!
Why is water constantly running in my toilet?
Generally speaking, your toilet tank contains two or three different mechanisms. A flush valve, a fill valve, and a flapper. One or all of these parts would likely need to be replaced to resolve a toilet that is consistently running.
For nearly 30 years, Alan’s Plumbing has been the go-to, honest, licensed plumbing company in Fort Bend. In the early days, the
If your toilet problem results in a plumber having to pull and reset the toilet AND you have considered replacing that particular toilet anyway, now is the time! A toilet pull/ reset is essentially the same thing as removing and installing a new toilet.
team consisted of only Alan and his wife, Jennifer. Today, Alan’s brother, Chris, works alongside Alan’s two oldest sons, Beau and Luke, and plumbers Jaime, Christian, and Anthony. Kathleen and Buel, married for 44 years, have lived in their Missouri City home since the 1970s. “We love the neighborhood and we love our house,” Kathleen says. “But our shower was designed in the 70s, so it had a sunken tub with a two-foot step. It was no longer easy for us to get into our own shower.”
The couple decided they needed to make some changes so they could “age in place” in the home they love. Aging in place refers to the practice of older adults remaining in their homes and communities as they grow older, rather than relocating to an assisted living facility or other type of care setting.
“I wanted to convert our shower into something open and easy to get in and out of,” Kathleen explains. “So we started looking for a contractor.”
An online research whiz, Kathleen says, “I looked at Google reviews, the Better Business Bureau, and Angi.com. We had a few companies bid the job, and the results in pricing were up to $5,000 apart.”
“When we met JT (Jaison Thottumkal of AIS Remodeling), we felt like he had our best interests at heart. And we learned that he was honest and cared about our end goals,” she continues. “He also provided skilled craftsmen.”
When the AIS started working, they found that a crack in the brick caused water to and resulted in damage. “They fixed the leak for a reasonable price, having problems later,” Kathleen explains.
addition to the repair, AIS broke out the old Terrazzo tile, replaced the entire floor, painted the walls and the ceiling, installed a new window, and created level entry shower with grab bars, a convenient wall cubby, and waterfall shower. They also painted the entire exterior of the home.
“JT went above and beyond with us, actually taking us to the store out tiles together,” Kathleen says. “I’m so happy we don’t have to step down two feet to get into the shower anymore! I’ve already recommended him to friends who want to do something similar in their bathroom.”

“Don’t believe everything you hear,” says Dr. Srishti Mehta, founder of Indigo Orthodontics in Richmond. “There’s a lot of misinformation out there about starting treatment in orthodontics. At Indigo Orthodontics, we want to be sure our patients and their families are well-informed to create the best smiles in the best and fastest way.”
Gone are the days of waiting until middle school to be assessed by an orthodontist. The American Association of Orthodontics recommends that children have their first orthodontics screening by age seven. “Early intervention is key,” Dr. Mehta says. “If treatment is identified and started early, it can reduce the need for extractions or prevent impacted teeth. Contrary to what patients may have been told in the past, starting treatment while the patient is still growing can shorten treatment times and yield faster results. Sometimes, younger patients can spend a short time in early braces to correct larger problems later.”
Dr. Mehta and her partner, Dr. Angelica Herrera, are both highly-skilled professionals with years of experience creating treatment plans together. “Not every patient will need treatment. The consultation will offer peace mind for parents either way,” Dr. Mehta explains.
The office treats kids, teens, and adults, and offers a complimentary consultation to get you started. Visit www.indigoortho.com or call 281-201-2087 to schedule now!

A referral is required to see an orthodontist.
My child needs to be at least 12 years old before visiting an orthodontist.
All baby teeth should be gone before seeing an orthodontist.
Orthodontists only work on children.
Orthodontic treatment takes several years.
Orthodontic treatment is purely cosmetic.
Orthodontics is unaffordable.
Indigo Orthodontics invites patients to schedule a free evaluation – no referrals necessary!
Early intervention is key! Bring your child to Indigo by age seven to determine the best plan for the best smile and the best health.
At age seven, children have a mix of baby and permanent teeth, which allows orthodontists to identify potential problems early and start treatment.
About one-third of Indigo’s daily patients are adults. It’s never too late to get the smile of your dreams.
Simple cases may only take a few months to treat. Early evaluations and intervention can shorten the time required to straighten teeth.
While it can improve smiles, orthodontics also addresses functional issues related to teeth and jaw alignment.
Indigo Orthodontics promises a luxury orthodontic experience at an affordable price. They offer several easy payment options to accommodate patient needs, including in-office financing, pay-in-full discount, teacher appreciation and first responder discounts, and they’re in network with most insurance plans.
any areas, including Fort Bend, are growing so fast, the need for physicians isn’t keeping up,” says owner and medical director of Fulshear Family Medicine, Dr. Anisha Waxali. “At Fulshear Family Medicine’s two locations, we are able to serve these communities with same-day appointments and are currently taking new patients.”
by Alisha McMillen
Fulshear Family Medicine
Both Locations
• Same-day appointments available
• Virtual/televisits available
• Make appointments online or by phone
• Speak to a team member directly, not an automated system
• Can accommodate most insurance plans
• Supervising physician support for mid-level providers
“We have physician providers in both locations and they’ve received excellent reviews. Our physicians are the leaders of the practice,” Dr. Waxali explains. “At some other practices, patients see only a mid-level practitioner (PAs and NPs). At Fulshear Family Medicine, our supervising physicians are very involved, working closely with everyone in the office, even conducting chart reviews to be sure every patient is monitored by a physician.”
In her practice, Dr. Waxali promotes proactive care, same-day appointments, and even after-hours care, so patients can avoid hospitals. “Our goal is to expand access to primary care in a setting driven by independent physicians,” Dr. Waxali says. “We stress preventive care and focus on lowering the cost of care for our patients.”
To accomplish the goals of the practice, Dr. Waxali has added new providers – physicians and mid-levels – at both locations in recent months. “In the Sugar Land and Fulshear locations, physicians and mid-level providers are available to see patients right away,” she continues.
Fulshear boasts two physicians, Dr. Mary Santiago and Dr. Patrick Coate, and three midlevel providers. Sugar Land has Dr. Adeel Qureshi and will be adding two mid-level providers soon.
The practice offers several ways to make appointments with the providers in the office, and promises employees will be available to speak to people during business hours. “It’s really important to offer a personal touch to patients when they need it,” Dr. Waxali says. “When you call during office hours, you will talk to a live person, not just an automated system.”
Dr. Waxali is also a concierge physician with MDVIP and is accepting new concierge patients, with a focus on preventive care, right in the heart of Sugar Land. Patients pay an annual fee for enhanced and dedicated primary care service.
“I have my roots in Sugar Land – I established my practice here in 2004. I work with specialists, pharmacies, and other providers to consult when required. I want to grow this location to help even more Sugar Land-area patients,” says Dr. Waxali.
Fulshear Family Medicine accepts most major private insurance plans, as well as Medicare, Medicare Advantage, and Marketplace.

“The practice of Interventional Psychiatry is why we opened our office,” says Dr. Aqeel Hashmi. “We’re growing exponentially because there’s a deep need for the services we provide.”
Interventional Psychiatry focuses on using procedural and devicebased treatments to manage mental health conditions, particularly those conditions that are resistant to traditional therapies like medication and psychotherapy.
The practice’s main treatment, Esketamine (brand name Spravato) has helped prevent depressed and suicidal individuals from being hospitalized. “It’s a nasal spray treatment for people who have tried two antidepressants with no relief or those who feel suicidal,” Dr. Hashmi explains. “It’s a self-administered treatment, but has to be given under a physician’s supervision.”
Since he was in medical school, Dr. Hashmi has been passionate about psychiatry. He has been medical director of Westpark Springs, a 96-bed behavioral health hospital in Richmond, for a decade. He trained as a Psychiatrist at Baylor College of Medicine and he also worked as a Consultant Psychiatrist in the United Kingdom. And it’s his third year in practice at @HealthTX, a mental health practice in Richmond.
@HealthTX, we treat most emotional health conditions including depression, anxiety, panic attacks, PTSD, schizophrenia, and bi-polar disorder,” Hashmi explains. With his team of one PA and three NPs, they see patients years and older. “We have a great team and they’ve all grown with us as the practice has grown.”
Additionally, Dr. Hashmi is an adjunct professor with the University of Houston Medical School, handles personal injury work through attorneys,
and conducts research – he’s the principal investigator on four studies. His practice also works with a Texas clinic, running a statefunded program for opiate dependence.
In helping patients, one of the greatest challenges is getting patients in the door for the first visit. “The majority of patients who suffer from depression don’t seek treatment. And of those who do, most achieve less than 50% improvement,” he explains.
Call @HealthTX today to set up your evaluation and get started on the path to mental wellness.

It’s back-to-school time! In between school supply and new shoe runs, don’t forget to schedule your child’s dental exam. Schedule it for summer and your child will miss just one day during the upcoming school year for dentist visits!
Why are dental exams important for kids?
Tooth decay is one of the most common dental conditions in children. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), approximately 46% of children aged 2-19 years have experienced tooth decay (cavities). Often, children do not brush properly, which can lead to dental problems, and many children are intimidated by dental visits, so they may be hesitant to share that they are experiencing tooth pain. This can significantly affect their classwork and ability to eat.
At Grand Parkway Pediatric Dental, founder and owner Dr. Faisal Khan has a gentle touch. Children love him and are comfortable with him and his staff. “Kids are my whole life,” says Dr. Khan. “They’re so much fun. Every patient is different children keep things exciting and fast-paced. My own kids, Zayna, Hamza, and Eisa, visit the office all the time. They love talking to the employees, and they help out by making goody bags and shredding papers. My life outside the office is hanging with the three of them. We are Marvel junkies!”
With expert dental care, cavities and other dental problems can be easily identified and treated in their early stages. Statistics show that dental problems can affect a student’s ability to concentrate and that students with dental problems miss more school.
“Even if your child’s teeth seem to be in good condition, they should still be seen by an experienced pediatric dentist.” Dr. Khan continues. “A comprehensive exam helps dentists to monitor or identify any problems with teeth development.”
Frequently change your child’s frayed toothbrush because the bristles are more abrasive and ineffective in cleaning the teeth and removing plaque
along your child’s gum line. As you stock up on school supplies, don’t forget to include several toothbrushes. Toothbrushes should be changed every three months or immediately after recovering from an illness.
“Adhere to the 2x2 Rule with your children every day,” Dr. Khan adds. “Brush twice daily for two minutes. This will help keep your kid’s teeth healthier between visits.”
Dr. Priyanshi Ritwik, Dr. Annie Zheng, Dr. Khadija Khan, as well as an oral surgeon, and an anesthesiologist, join Dr. Khan at Grand Parkway Pediatric Dental to provide all aspects of pediatric dentistry, special needs dentistry, and minor orthodontics. “Everyone here is so hard working,” says Dr. Khan. “As a team, we all really care for our patients!”

Henry Lin sees many patients who are 65+ and eligible for Medicare at Houston Retina Associates, the experts in retinal disease. “I know how to get the best medical care for my patients, but often, they ask for help deciphering how Medicare works,” Dr. Lin says. “Retinas are my specialty … insurance is not.”

Like us at Houston Retina Associates, the agents at Clutch City Insurance are also multi-lingual.”
Houston Retina Associates has six physicians working in seven offices around Houston. Among the staff are those who speak Vietnamese, Mandarin Chinese, and Spanish, in addition to English. The practice’s founders have been in retinal care for 30 years.
“I enjoy building relationships with my patients over time, so I was happy to be able to provide them with some explanation about how they could get the best Medicare plan,” Dr. Lin says. “Clutch City Insurance has been helpful in assisting our patients to find the right care that fits their specific needs.”
“We know the landscape of hospital systems and doctors in our community,” Andrew explains. “One of our main goals is to educate our seniors on what they need to know.” “Together, Houston Retina Associates and Clutch City Insurance share the goal of helping patients get the care they need,” Dr. Lin concludes. “We share the same ethics of putting patient interests first.”

It was Father’s Day and Dr. Lan Nguyen, D.C., was in the market for a new truck. He dropped into Classic Chevrolet of Sugar Land and worked with General Sales Manager John Aldridge, Jr. to purchase his new Silverado truck.
“I had a very good experience buying a vehicle about a year and a half ago from John. He got me a really good deal on my car at that time,” says Dr. Nguyen. “His professionalism, dedication, helpfulness, and attention to detail brought me back to him for my truck purchase this year.”
Dr. Nguyen’s black 2025 Silverado LT is the perfect vehicle that meets all of his needs. “It’s roomy, sleek, and comfortable,” he says. “It offers a great, dependable drive for my daily commute to Houston Pain Relief and Wellness Clinic.”
Since Dr. Nguyen drives into Southwest Houston from Richmond every day, he needs a reliable vehicle. At the clinic, Dr. Nguyen helps patients who have had an injury, resulting from slips/falls, auto accidents, and other catastrophic accidents. “It’s very important to get an evaluation from a hands-on healthcare professional as soon as possible after an injury,” he says. Dr. Nguyen can be reached at Houston Pain Relief and Wellness Clinic, 12435 Beechnut Street, Suite 101, in Houston.
“The entire sales staff at Classic were very patient and weren’t pushy at all,” Dr. Nguyen continues. “They took the time to understand my concerns and explained the different trim types to help me understand exactly what I needed.”
Time was also an important consideration for Dr. Nguyen when buying his vehicle. In recent months, Classic Chevrolet has streamlined the purchase process to make it faster and easier for its customers. “No one wants to spend all day in the dealership when buying a car,” John says. “We added an additional finance manager and implemented new technology to speed the purchase process. We also opened our used car building to eliminate any bottlenecks on the showroom floor, and we’re selling more used cars than ever before!”
Get your car purchase started today with the experienced salespeople at Classic Chevrolet Sugar Land. “Use our expertise to help make your experience quick and painless,” John concludes.

•Administration type – from injectables to oral medications to topical solutions, versatility provides convenient solutions.
•Allergies – “Standard prescriptions may include fillers that you’re allergic to,” Dr. Mathew explains. “We can create a treatment that includes only the desired ingredients.”
oth men and women can be affected by hair loss. It’s such a prevalent problem that there are many solutions to choose from to help encourage hair growth.
“Sometimes, you need a custom treatment for your custom problem,” says Dr. Lisa Mathew, compounding pharmacist at local Campbell’s Compounding Pharmacy. “At Campbell’s Compounding, with a physician’s supervision, we can combine multiple active ingredients in a single formulation that can potentially enhance efficacy and simplify treatment.”
These compounded formulas can combine FDA-approved medications and alternative therapies creating a custom product that may treat, prevent, and reverse hair thinning and loss. Some ingredients include:
•Minoxidil – An FDA-approved vasodilator that can slow hair loss and stimulate new hair growth. It’s often compounded at prescription-strength levels (5% or higher) and can be combined with other active ingredients.
•Finasteride – An FDA-approved drug that reduces the production of dihydrotestosterone (DHT), a hormone linked to hair loss. Topical finasteride can be formulated to mimic the effects of oral finasteride while potentially minimizing systemic side effects.
•Estradiol and Progesterone – hormones that play a role in hair loss.
•Fluocinolone – A topical steroid that can help manage skin conditions that may contribute to hair loss.
•Retinoic Acid (Tretinoin) – Vitamin A deriva tive that can promote hair growth, especially when combined with Minoxidil.
Why compound?
•Dosage – “With custom-made medication, we can tailor the dose to the patient. We do not want to underdose or overdose. By compounding, we can get the dosage of all ingredients just right,” says Dr. Mathew.
Campbell’s Compounding Pharmacy was founded in 2003 by Dr. Lance Campbell, Pharm.D., R.Ph. The pharmacy prides itself on customer service by providing a family feel. In addition to custom compounded medications, they stock a variety of commercially available medications. Dr. Campbell says, “We work hard to help your family feel their best!”

UpClose Magazine sat down with Jen Hayes of Feather & Nest Interiors of Missouri City again to talk about the relationship between the contractor, designer, and homeowner. The Re-Modelista, Teri Gilberg, and Jen have worked on many projects together, including the primary bathroom in the Sienna home pictured here.
Q: What was your inspiration for this project?
Jen: The homeowners requested a luxe hotel spa aesthetic and we designed a sophisticated, timeless bathroom that combines form and function beautifully. The key to the success of this project was being mindful of their budget and so we sourced fixtures and materials that worked well for them and for the space.
Q: What’s important when working with a contractor and homeowner?
Jen: Teri is just a joy to work with. Working with someone who is so detailoriented and communicative makes my job a lot easier. The biggest asset of the
entire Re-Modelista team is their ability to commu nicate often and thoroughly, which is so important a designer and to the homeowner. And they on schedule, which is also helpful when you’re delivering the selected materials.
Q: What are some of your favorite results on this project?
Jen: I love the backlit mirrors with anti-fog technology and three different lighting levels, because you need a different level of light for put ting on your makeup than you need for a cozy bubble bath. We put power strips in the drawers for hair tools, so there aren’t exposed cords and tools all over the countertop. Converting the tra ditional linen closet to custom cabinetry added space and interest to the room. And the floor to ceiling tile accent wall behind the shower is so custom, it really stands out. We reimagined the existing footprint in a thoughtful and aestheti cally pleasing way.
