Poetry by Jim Wilson

Jim Wilson grew up 12 miles south of Van Horn, Texas, later graduated from TAMU Vet school in 1973. He practiced 42 years in Abilene. In 2015, he and his wife moved to Burton, the place he began writing poetry, which he sees as observation and intuition “given” to record a message. He’s published 6 poetry books and won several awards and recognitions. If interested in more of his poetry, contact Marposa Press, 3401 South Treadway Blvd, Abilene, TX 79602.

Concealed Concern

I can’t always tell Right from wrong At a glance.

I saw him today. The Audie Murphy of Abilene, Texas. Old, broken down, bad back, bad foot, still in fatigues. Forgotten by his country. Avoided by his neighbors.

I can’t always tell Good from bad Without a context. I sure can’t tell Pure from impure Without a doctrine. But I can tell the innocence Of a child, The love in an eye And The Whisper Of God Saying, “You love---and I’ll be the judge.”

This is because the Lord is our judge. The Lord makes our laws. The Lord Is our King. He will save us. Isa, 33L22 (NCV)

At least five major, ribboned medals boxed on the wall. No chance to even discretely examine. Afraid to ask. I don’t know if he shot Krauts or Japs. He may have been the one who shot up the neighborhood last year. I can’t help him. I’m scared of him. He’s not all there. Wonder where he left it? Wonder if anyone’s helped him look for it? I’ll just vaccinate his dog and go. I doubt that he’ll give me a medal for that, but I hope his back gets better. I feel for him, but I don’t dare reach him. Kind of a empty feeling to be carrying a concealed concern. How do I get the safety off this organism?
