LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT After attending the first few community events of the Spring/Summer season, including the Easter Egg Hunt, Wine Tasting, and Barbecue Cook-Off, another thing occurred to me about why we have such a great community, and that’s the pride people take in keeping our park and clubhouse clean. Each of the three events I mentioned attracted hundreds of people and had lots of food and drink, but when they were done, you wouldn’t know anybody had been there. There were literally 4,000 eggs picked up by the children at the egg hunt (in what literally seemed like a matter of seconds), but Ibarely saw so much as a single candy wrapper on the ground when it was done. At the wine event, I noticed a continual flow of volunteers taking the empty wine bottles and trash out to keep it from overflowing, and the clubhouse was completely spotless early the next morning thanks to a crew of volunteers. And the cold and wind didn’t’ keep the barbecue teams and volunteers from doing a great job in getting everything cleaned up and packed up after the barbecue event. There are always the usual volunteers who help with event set up, clean up, and everything in between, but we’re starting to see a lot of new faces pitching in to help and that’s really great to see. Of course none of this really should come as a surprise considering how the vast majority of homes and yards in our neighborhood are kept in such good shape – that benefits all of us. And wow, this year’s “Smokin’ in the Park” barbecue cook off was the biggest and best one yet, despite the cold and windy weather. Many thanks to our planning committee that included Matt Stults, Gary Nix, Joe Perez, Ricky Gonzalez, and our head judge Nathan Hall, and of course the entire event was overseen and organized by the tireless Karen O’Neil. The committee came up with some great new ideas to further improve an already great event with things like the kids’ cook off for kiddos age 12 and under. That was a really fun way to end the day to see the kids under the pavilion with their little grills preparing everything from sliders

to kabobs to glazed salmon! Thanks to CleanScapes landscaping for sponsoring this part of the event, which included purchasing all of the grills and aprons and small gift bags, all of which the kids got to keep. The committee also devised the “Peoples’ Pit” award for the main cook off, which encouraged all of the teams to do more to feed and interact with all the residents who came out to be a part of the festivities. Congratulations to all of the winners, and a huge THANKS to the many volunteers who helped make this event so great, from the judges to the folks who helped set up to the folks who helped clean up. With the pool now open and more kids hitting the park as school is about to be out, our lifeguards and pool monitors, as well as our park monitors, are back to work. The absolute top priority for these staffers is the SAFETY of pool and park patrons. Secondarily it is to help ensure the enjoyment of everybody within the pool and park, and to protect our community property. But as always, there may be times we need your help as well, so if you see something that is a risk to somebody’s safety or enjoyment of our amenities, or a risk to property, please say something to whoever might be committing an unsafe or unsettling act, or at least report it to a monitor, to the park caretaker, or in a worst case to law enforcement should you think it is warranted. And parents please remind your kids and their friends to enjoy the park but please follow the park rules. Kids will be kids, and park staff will be as patient as they can, but repeated or dangerous acts can lead to a park ban – something we don’t want to happen, but we will take that action if and when it is warranted.

All Meetings are held at 7:00 p.m. at the Park. Thanks for your Clubhouse time, and at I’llthe see you around the neighborhood! Greg Matula TPOA Board President
