4.3 Junction with wall • Extensive planting • Waterproofing above insulation • Synthetic waterproofing

In principle, multiple layers of insulation must be laid with their joints offset. Certain constituents of timber can make it necessary to include a separating membrane in the case of some synthetic waterproofing materials. The prescribed skirting height of 15 cm is measured from the top of the substrate or concrete flags. The proximity of the flags makes it necessary to protect the skirting of waterproofing material with sheet metal. If the synthetic waterproofing material is fixed to the vertical timber elements instead of to the horizontal roof elements, the screws do not need to be so long.

4.4 Penetration • Waterproofing above insulation • Synthetic waterproofing

Pipes penetrating the roof must always be firmly attached to the roof structure. In this detail the penetration is integrated into both the vapour barrier and the waterproofing with a collar fabricated on site. A hose clip secures the top edge of the collar at the prescribed height of 15 cm above the roof finishes. The mechanical fasteners for the synthetic waterproofing material must be guaranteed on all sides.

4.5 Drainage • Waterproofing above insulation • Bitumen waterproofing

Roof outlets, too, must be firmly attached to the roof structure. This detail shows an outlet and an extension piece, both with double flanges (one fixed, one detachable) for clamping the waterproofing and vapour barrier materials. To ensure good access for maintenance, an area measuring approx. 50 ≈ 50 cm around the dome grating should be kept clear of substrate and plants.
