OVERFLOW
Conceptualising the Future of Education Post-Covid
The aim of Overflow is to create an accessible space for informal learning outside of the home which, through the impacts of covid, has become the main space for many types of education. The space intends to allow a continuation of this change in behaviour towards self-directed learning for personal and professional benefit and create a new public space that can support it. A space that allows equitable access, to those who have been further marginalized by the impacts of covid, to help support the creation of a lifelong learning space that places Australia within the education economy and encourages an economy of knowledge sharing.
Void restaurant poses a stark contrast to the rest of the site, incorporating darker tones that encapsulate the audience and allow for a unique dining experience. The Void creates enclosed secure pods, that consume the viewer, contrasted against the exposed seating at the base of the oculus. All are surrounded by banquette seating that allows people to exist in the space without use as a restaurant, instead passively activating the floor as a community space that functions, ultimately for them.

OVERFLOW A New Education State
The Overflow app is an expansion of the physical space of White Bay Power Station. It creates a community space for people to connect to the Overflow Community, locate debates within the space and access the space and it’s events digitally.
The app was designed as a way of providing accurate and updated

The Inhabitation of Debate
Level 2 is a space intended to for lively interactions, debating with the space and each other in an effort to continue the environment of knowledge sharing and learning brought on by the impacts of COVID. It consists of bespoke elements supported by loose furniture that allows the space to adapt and move with those inhabiting it, to support learning and debate in a way that makes sense and is comfortable for them. Allowing people to adjust to this new public space for learning and begin to consider what interiors that host informal education can look and feel like.
OVERFLOW
How a Space can Debate with you
The detailing acts to better articulate the use, through communicating the audience’s ability to play with the space. It makes clear the separation of these spaces for debate from the existing floors and space of the Boiler House. This floor is not alive without people, they add the warmth, movement and function to the space through their inhabitation and engagement with it. Detailing of the internal mechanisms of the poles required layering various elements to ensure that the pole would remain as stable as possible while still functioning as an autonomous element within the floor.

The Changing Face of Retail
I intended to simplify the experience retail stores through creating a hybrid that integrates the physical and digital experience of shopping to change the face of the physical retail store. Creating a series of considered components that change how a retail store would function and how the components could be re-applied after use in a static location to consider how the fast nature of retail stores might be met through design.

Considering the Audience and an Established Brand
The key branding of the booth is through Koskela’s logo as it relates to both the original brand and this new range. Through enlarging the ‘K’ it makes a statement and can draw attention. A key element of the learn range its ability to be maintained, which is highlighted through the 2D iterations of the products that simplify them to allow the basic form, construction and maintenance potential to be understood in an interactive and innovate way. Inspired by the sort of classroom learning which the range facilitates.

Considering the Audience and an Established Brand
The playful nature of the booth and the ‘toy-like’ activity of the products allows all audiences to interact and understand the key features being portrayed. This is important as the range has many key features but within a trade show you may not be able to get across all details of a range. So focusing the audience’s attention to one of significance, that also allows playful activity for other demographics, ensures that it grabs their attention and can resonate to encourage further inquiry.

Using my studio design for the same term as a basis, I adapted my intentions and scheme for the set layout we were provided. Focusing on layering lighting with more intention into the space and detailing it as a way to better learn how to create RCP’s and design with natural and artificial light in mind.

A Project Completed
One of the first major projects that I assisted on was the Blacktown Animal Rehoming Facility (BARC). I was brought onto the project in the later documentation stage, assisting to increase information, location specific variations and develop additional signtypes for the project.
It allowed me to quickly adjust to the use of the autocad extension for illustrator and learn the format of documentation used within Urbanite.
