OVERFLOW
Conceptualising the Future of Education Post-Covid
The aim of Overflow is to create an accessible space for informal learning outside of the home which, through the impacts of covid, has become the main space for many types of education. The space intends to allow a continuation of this change in behaviour towards self-directed learning for personal and professional benefit and create a new public space that can support it. A space that allows equitable access, to those who have been further marginalized by the impacts of covid, to help support the creation of a lifelong learning space that places Australia within the education economy and encourages an economy of knowledge sharing.
Void restaurant poses a stark contrast to the rest of the site, incorporating darker tones that encapsulate the audience and allow for a unique dining experience. The Void creates enclosed secure pods, that consume the viewer, contrasted against the exposed seating at the base of the oculus. All are surrounded by banquette seating that allows people to exist in the space without use as a restaurant, instead passively activating the floor as a community space that functions, ultimately for them.

OVERFLOW A New Education State
The Overflow app is an expansion of the physical space of White Bay Power Station. It creates a community space for people to connect to the Overflow Community, locate debates within the space and access the space and it’s events digitally.

OVERFLOW
The Inhabitation of Debate
Level 2 is a space intended to for lively interactions, debating with the space and each other in an effort to continue the environment of knowledge sharing and learning brought on by the impacts of COVID. It consists of bespoke elements supported by loose furniture that allows the space to adapt and move with those inhabiting it, to support learning and debate in a way that makes sense and is comfortable for them. Allowing people to adjust to this new public space for learning and begin to consider what interiors that host informal education can look and feel like.
OVERFLOW
How a Space can Debate with you
The detailing acts to better articulate the use, through communicating the audience’s ability to play with the space. It makes clear the separation of these spaces for debate from the existing floors and space of the Boiler House. This floor is not alive without people, they add the warmth, movement and function to the space through their inhabitation and engagement with it. Detailing of the internal mechanisms of the poles required layering various elements to ensure that the pole would remain as stable as possible while still functioning as an autonomous element within the floor.

The Difficult Spaces
The bathroom was chosen as one of the key areas to detail as the requirements and expectations of these drawings can be of a higher standard due to the range of trades involved and the standards that must be followed. As the documentation package was intended as a high end design, the set required a large range of drawings that showed the full extent of works long with the supporting details that demonstrated a higher level of refinement in the detailing.
