Resident Directory Update: Privacy and Control of Your Information
Article submission by Communications Committee
So, you may have noticed that the “printed” version of the Community Directory is no longer available on our website, and while your first thought might be frustration, we wanted to share that the online “Resident Directory” has important benefits regarding your privacy and control of your contact information.
The registered owner can choose which information is public (visible to other Residents registered on the website, as well as some AAM staff) vs. private.
The registered owner can update their contact information at any time (change phone number, change email, change public vs. private choices, add Emergency contacts, etc.).
The registered owner can also update the contact information for their spouse /partner /family member
The Resident Directory is an important database that connects Resident information to the HOA for communication via e-blasts, communications from AAM, payment status, and other notifications. Over the next 6 months, the data in this Directory will be used with the replacement online tool called “e-Trak” which will be replacing ActiveNet. The transition to eTrak will be smoother if folks have checked the accuracy of their contact info on the website or in the All-Access App. More information will be shared with you regarding e-Trak when training materials are available. Teaser Alert: one convenient benefit of eTrak is that you will only have to login once when you are signing up for a class or event.
If you are struggling to edit your online contact information, please know that help is on the way!
The Communications Committee plans to make a step-by-step guide to help you learn how to modify your contact information, and privacy settings. For now, if there is more than one person living at your home, please know that only the “registered owner” is permitted to make changes. If you are super keen to update your information now, and you need help, then please ask the Welcome Desk staff.
Friendly Reminders
Tree Trimming / Weeds
Spring Personal Landscape Responsibilities
Keeping up with your yard helps maintain the overall community appearance and also makes your neighbors happy. Trees and weeds can be a common source of disputes among neighbors. Tree tiffs can take many forms. Perhaps a tree falls on and damages a neighbor's property. Sometimes a neighbor's tree blocks what would be a scenic or otherwise pleasant view. In some cases, a neighbor's tree may actually block a view of something unpleasant. In that case, cutting down a tree may cause friction between neighbors. It doesn't matter that the tree might have been obstructing the view of someone’s backyard or Dove Mountain Boulevard. Also, a dead branch can fall from a tree at any time, the fallen leaves can be slippery, endangering nearby people and buildings. An overgrown tree can block road signs or block sidewalks that can make it difficult for residents to safely walk under or around.
Weeds detract not just from your yard but can reflect poorly on the community as a whole when left unattended and potentially effect property values. Neighbors who keep weeds or other debris from encroaching on their neighbors’ property can avoid disputes. Try working together as friendly neighbors to keep the community looking good.
Refresher on How to Use the Resident Bulletin Board
Article submission by Communications Committee
We wanted to refresh use of and provide some examples to improve clarity for the Resident Bulletin Board since it’s been awhile since we shared the guidelines (see page 6 of October 2022 Newsletter Article and there are new Residents who may not be aware of the purpose/guidelines.
Most Residents are familiar with the bulletin board on the wall leading to the gym. This bulletin board is intended for Residents as an additional communication option. Additionally, this bulletin board helps us meet the AZ statute (A.R.S. §33-1808 of the Planned Communities Act) that went into effect in September 2022. That statute provides HOA member’s an avenue of additional communication to organize a place to peacefully assemble and use common areas to discuss matters related to the community (e.g. board elections or recalls, revisions to the community documents, maintenance or safety concerns, or other association matters).
This Community bulletin board is for Residents and will retain its current content: HOA related business/events/activities/interest group updates /schedules, etc. Residents may also post on this board to share information with other Residents since sometimes hard copy postings may be preferred vs. posting on social media. The permitted content is set out below in the Guidelines.
Guidelines for new bulletin board:
• Size: please limit postings to 8.5 x 11 inches, smaller would be preferred.
• Duration: 30-day postings. We would like to keep the board tidy, and make sure folks can see what is current/new. So, please include the date you posted. Items will be removed after 30 days .
• Preferred Process: please provide your posting to a member of the AAM staff and they can make sure the item is suitable/dated and post for you.
• Content permitted: Some ideas for potential content include items for sale/or for free; notice of events/meetings to discuss matters related to the community (e.g., Board elections or recall,
revisions to community documents, maintenance or safety concerns, or other association matters); information about volunteer opportunities; restaurant recommendations; vendor/contractor recommendations. Please don’t duplicate the information, which is already on the other bulletin board (in hallway leading to gym).
• Content not permitted: any advertisements by businesses (whether a Resident’s business or an external business). Businesses or services would be anything where a person is making a steady stream of income and not a one-time sale of items. We realize the distinction may be confusing so if you have any questions, please contact a member of the AAM staff to discuss in greater detail. If you would like to advertise your business, then please consider taking out an ad in the monthly newsletter.
We hope that Residents continue to enjoy this communication opportunity and if you have any feedback or questions please reach out to the Communications Committee.

Get Fluid Powerful Serves
Flex leg muscles
The top servers in pro tennis all have one thing in common: they flex their leg muscles just before they stretch up to hit the ball.
Most club players, on the other hand, are too stiff and upright when they serve. As a result, their serves lack power since the arm and shoulder are forced to do all of the work. The next time you practice your serve, flex your legs as you drop the racquet head behind your back. This flexing action will allow you to use your leg muscles to spring upward and stretch out fully as you accelerate the racquet head through contact with the ball.
So, for a more fluid and powerful serve, don't forget to flex your leg muscles!

Safety Tip of the Month
It’s
Snake Season!
Encountering a rattlesnake on the trail or in your yard can be nerve-wracking. Rattlesnakes are generally not aggressive and usually try to avoid confrontation, but they may strike if they feel threatened. Always keep your distance and simply back up and move away. They can’t strike more than about a third of their body length, and the average size of a Western Diamondback–which is one of the biggest snakes in Arizona–is about three and a half feet.

When sticking to well-defined hiking trails in open areas, the risk of encountering rattlesnakes is very low and snake bites are rare. There is a higher risk of accidentally stepping on or near a hidden snake when hiking off trail.

Our group of resident volunteers provides practical support to community members in unanticipated or temporary times of need.
During the month of February, we received a call for technical assistance and changed out some HVAC filters. We also arranged for a neighbor to receive a ride to a doctor appt.. If the request for assistance is out of our scope of expertise we can often provide a referral to a professional.
