The old adage :’Respect your elders ,for they have seen the world and can share their wisdom with you’ This stands so true for our Rotary family- with all the veterans encouraging Ramesh and me not to miss any of the learning events and specially not the Pre-pels,for that bonding, they said would be special. “Boy- were they right.”
In my journey ,in preparation to take up the leadership role at the club level ,there have been many learnings already-the most important one being sacrificing the attendance to my best friend’s daughter’s wedding. Once you have taken up a commitment, your personal agendas should take a back seat-the broken heart et al.
Why am I writing this piece ? Why is it important?
We have chosen to be Rotarians-”Service above Self” is our motto. In this private circulation ,nestled amongst us,is my successor-and I need to say this-Unprepared I was to take up the mantle, and quite skeptical too-but today ,nearly 6 months and the pre-pels behind me, I am excited and am looking forward to play my role with elan.Even before I begin, you -my successor will have taken your first step-and we will run this relay beautifully, keeping our club’s name flying high.
Needless to say ,my bonding with my cohort and many district leaders has been wonderful. The opportunity to hear seasoned Rotarians speak and share pieces of wisdom -in well planned modules was a great learning experience. The experience reiterated for me that there is no age bar to learning-it is a continuous process for those who wish to learn.
Well the three days of fun and learning flew past ,leaving us yearning for more .Like all of us will remember our school batches and friends as the best, so will I recall this Pre-pels with nostalgia.
Incidentally, small trivia- My group stood first in the Skit competition and Second in the group dance ,both of which I was a part of-for the very first time in my life. Here are some photos for you all.
