Welcome to May in beautiful McIntosh County! It’s so beautiful everywhere you look right now with the plants and animals growing and thriving here in our stunning landscape. This month is a special time as well to recognize the mothers in our lives. Be sure to make those special women in your life feel appreciated this Mother’s Day
April was a busy month for us with the 55th Annual Blessing of the Fleet! We were blessed with not only beautiful weather but an abundance of community support for this honored event. The music performers for the event all put on incredible shows, and the fireworks were well worth their hefty $15,000 price tag. Friday and Saturday brought over 7000 people through the gates, with more showing up Sunday for the main event, the marine parade, and blessing! This year, 12 boats were blessed from our beloved Darien River bridge by our local ministry I want to personally thank the Blessing of the Fleet committee and our community partners, Darien Lions Club, YMCA, City of Darien, McIntosh IDA, McIntosh Sheriffs Department, Darien Downtown Development Authority, and the McIntosh County Commissioners for their support and participation in the event. Another huge should out to our non-profit partners who helped work the gates; their efforts raised over $9,000 for the Boys and Girls Club, SkillsUSA, McIntosh Basketball Team, McIntosh Art Association, Treasuring Christ Church, and Mack Academy
We are now working on the Red, White, and Blue on the Bluff coming up July 1st Anyone interested in helping with this event, please let us know! It’s always a time for a celebration in McIntosh!

Bird OF THE MONTH
The flamboyant Roseate Spoonbill looks like it came straight out of a Dr Seuss book with its bright pink feathers, red eye staring out from a partly bald head, and giant spoon-shaped bill. Groups sweep their spoonbills through shallow fresh or salt waters snapping up crustaceans and fish They fly with necks outstretched, to and from foraging and nesting areas along the coastal southeastern U.S., and south to South America. These social birds nest and roost in trees and shrubs with other large wading birds
