A message from Your President douglas day This month, my article is devoted entirely to the Centennial Celebrations this year at the Club. There have been many themed events in every area of the Club. In May, we celebrated with Jack Nicklaus visiting our Club on May 5. We’ve been spending time letting all of our members know about our biggest celebration of the year and we invite you and your friends to join us on September 14, 2019 and be a part of a “once in a lifetime party” at your Club. We will transform the Club through the decades giving you a taste of life at a Country Club from 1919 to 2019. A person of any age should experience what we will bring you – great entertainment through the century right here at DAC! There will be delectable food and drink in every room - giving you the Prohibition era, the 20’s, 30’s, 60’s on and on through the 90’s all in one place with entertainment for everyone to enjoy through those periods.

In the Oak Room will be our Speakeasy Lounge with a full mahogany bar with period drinks, the Royal Room will feature a 50’s Texas Swing Band for your dancing pleasure. The Dining Room will feel like you are at the Downtown Club in the ever-famous Safari Room and drink and dine with your friends before you proceed to “Disco the Night Away” with groovy décor, D.J. and cigars and cordials while on the patio. In the Men’s Locker room, enjoy a Rat Pack 60’s inspired Casino. Frank Sinatra and Don Rickles impersonators will be on hand to entertain through the Clubhouse. The entire Clubhouse will feature an abundance of Speakeasy Specialty Bars. Let’s party!

Ron Baker, Chairman, Centennial Committee This Centennial year has been an amazing year for us. As Centennial Committee Chairman, I want to personally thank the Centennial Committee for all the hard work they have done to plan and execute the events that have happened this year to date. The Jack Nicklaus visit took many hours of planning by the Committee and the end result was amazing.

His visit was certainly memorable and those who attended raved about the day! We have listed some of the special things that have been planned by the Committee this year.

Our finale will be the Centennial Gala on September 14, 2019. This certainly will be a monumental day to remember for all of us! Our hope is that you will make this the “once in a lifetime party”. We hope to see you all in attendance at this very special event! Let’s all celebrate this 100 Year Anniversary of Dallas Athletic Club!

FROM THE DESK OF CARI CUNNINGHAM Dear Members, It is with great pride and enthusiasm that I introduce myself as the Membership Director at Dallas Athletic Club!

Over the past several weeks, I have gained great information and details about DAC, and I look forward to meeting each of you in the coming months.

In the meantime, please allow me to introduce myself.

Raised in Texarkana, I pursued my college education at Texas State University and earned a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Mass Communication and Public Relations with a minor in Business Administration. After graduation, I went back to Texarkana and worked as the Catering Department Head at Texarkana Country Club, where Byron Nelson was once the Golf Pro.

Wanting to expand my career, I joined a team of Private Club Professionals at Bent Tree Country Club in Dallas.

This is where I gained a solid foundation relative to Club operations and member-focused services. As my curiosity of the Hospitality industry grew, I took a leap of faith and tested the Hotel world at the Omni Hotel in Downtown Fort Worth. While I enjoyed my stint as a hotelier, I have learned that I have a passion for Private Clubs, where everything is done with the purpose of enhancing the member experience.

It is a great honor for me to join the DAC team in a position that is centered on membership. I feel fortunate to learn from and grow under DAC’s leadership and with the 200 fellow DAC teammates.

I appreciate your guidance and your support as we continue developing the great membership at DAC. Best Regards!

Course Update September/ October 2019 Summer is almost behind us and the courses have performed very well this year. We have done a couple things different this year that have benefited the courses greatly. One of the things is aerifying and top dressing our fairways. This process promotes finer growth and reduces the puffiness we experience in the later summer months. Another contributing factor is that we have purchased new greens rollers that do not stress the greens in the hot and

humid summer months unlike our old rollers, so we are able to roll our greens on a regular basis during the heat. The added rolling has made the greens much smoother this summer.

This fall we are changing our preemerge weed control program to combat the Poa Annua grass that took our courses over last winter. This new product comes with a guarantee that we will be free of poa Annua or they will refund the cost and give us a post emerge herbicide to apply in the early spring. I have seen several test plots of this product and it works very well.

We have several factors that weakens the turf in our roughs such as shade

and weaker irrigation coverage, however, the biggest factor is cart traffic. Carts damage the grass because of concentrated traffic patterns. The fairways can tolerate the traffic because the carts spread out more and there is no shade or irrigation weakness. In the winter months the wear shows up more because the grass is dormant and not growing. We ask that you assist us by not driving in the roughs and remain on cart paths and fairways as much as possible to reduce wear in the rough.

The Women’s Club Championship will be played September 6 – 8. This event will be flighted and will determine our Women’s Club Champion. The Women’s Club Championship has been contested continuously since 1954, this is our longest running and most prestigious women’s event. The Turrentine Cup, named after multiple club champion (’79,’81,’82,’83) Tommy Turrentine, will be played on September 28. This 27-hole event is one of our most unique men’s event on the calendar. It is a two person team playing three 9-hole formats, better ball, alternate shot and a scramble. It’s one of the clubs most

The Dallas Athletic Club Golf Academy powered by Operation 36 starts the first week of September.

There are multiple Junior Academies for all ages, a Men’s Academy, Women’s Academy and Beginner Women’s Academy. The goal of this Academy is to teach the player the skills to shoot 36 or better on 9 holes. Part of the 8-week Academy is playing 9 holes from various yardages that you graduate from after shooting 36 or better. This has become one of our most popular teaching programs at the club. BACK TO SCHOOL The kids are back in school, vacation season is winding down and most people are getting back into their normal routines. Now is a great time to get into the gym, create a new routine and prepare yourself for the holiday season.

FITCLUB We offer 12 group exercise classes per week at a variety of times. Please check the schedule and try out your first class on us.

Also, look into joining the Fit Club Plus. Fit Club Plus is only $40 per month which includes unlimited classes and free Clubkids during your workout time.

JUMP START PROGRAM The Jump Start program is another good way to jump back into your workout routine.

First, make an appointment for your evaluation/workout and tell us your goals.

Then, a DAC fitness professional will assess your movements and develop a customized workout routine for you.

Lastly, we will take you through your workout, ensure proper form is being utilized and answer any questions you have about your program.

At the conclusion of the session you will have a hard copy of your routine and you’ll be ready to attack the Fall Season!
