Committee Message Springville’s 2019 Art City Days will take you “Soaring to New Heights” as you come and participate in this year’s number one “Best of Utah Valley” celebration. Starting on Saturday, June 1, and ending on Saturday, June 8, you will find a week filled with events and activities that offers something for everyone.

With Art City Day’s annual Balloon Fest, sponsored by W.W. Clyde Companies, get up close and see how hot air balloons go from a small trailer to soaring 1,000 feet over Springville. Then soar on up Hobble Creek Canyon and enjoy a round of golf at one of the best golf courses in the western United States. After soaring through a round of golf, land at the Terrace and enjoy some club food that will have you returning for more.

This year’s rodeo will showcase some of Utah’s best local talent competing in one of the finest “hometown” rodeos, with a “halftime” show that will send the audience soaring off their seats in awe of the talent and stunts.

Activities will be in abundance for children of all ages at the annual Children’s Art Festival held at the grounds of the Springville Museum of Art. Be sure to soar on over and see the 2019 Spring Salon taking your mind to “new heights” as you experience some of the most talented and celebrated artists around.

Grand Marshal J. Rolla “Dutch” Hall selected as 2019 Parade Grand Marshal J. Rolla “Dutch” Hall has been named grand marshal of the 2019 Art City Days Grand Parade. The parade will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 8, and proceed along Springville’s 400 South and Main Street.

J. Rolla “Dutch” Hall was born and raised in Spanish Fork. He was nicknamed Dutch, a name he has carried ever since, by his friends because of a speech impediment as a child.

Dutch married MaryNell Alleman, a Springville girl, and they soon made Springville their home. He and MaryNell have seven children. He worked for W.W. Clyde & Co., a Springville heavy highway construction company, for 35 years. Bridges all over Utah and nearby states were built by Dutch.

Service in the Boy Scouts of America brought Dutch wonderful experiences in the great outdoors.

Many boys in west Springville remember campouts, hiking and an adventure with baby skunks. Dutch received the Silver Beaver Award for his dedicated service.

Most people know Dutch because of his farm.

Dutch has always loved animals and began his collection in the 1950s with the help of his brother. Ivan was in the Merchant Marines and sent Dutch many exotic animals from around the world.

Dutch has raised spider monkeys, crested apes, badgers, foxes, coyotes, raccoons, kangaroos, reindeer, pheasants and different kinds of waterfowl, to name a few.

Dutch loves people and receives so much joy in sharing his hobbies with others.

Resident Artist 2019 Resident Artist: Alison Watson of Alison Watson Pottery Springville resident Alison Watson, owner of Alison Watson Pottery, has been named the 2019 Art City Days Resident Artist. She will be honored in the Art City Days Grand Parade on Saturday, June 8.

Watson grew up in Washington, D.C., an urban lifestyle she enjoyed. In fourth grade, her school had a carnival, and she learned she could win carnival tickets through entering a poster contest. She created a poster and entered, winning 25 tickets that she promptly used on cotton candy, the bounce house and a cake for her family.

“So I thought, hey, art really can pay off,” she said.

She went on to win the same contest in fifth and sixth grade, encouraging her belief that art was something she was good at. In school, she played sports and took some art classes, where her art teachers indicated it was something she should pursue.

After high school graduation, Watson headed west for college. With a desire to experience snow sports and obtain a change of scenery, she enrolled in Brigham Young University-Idaho (then Ricks College).

It was there she took her first ceramics class — and she fell in love with the medium.

“I connected with clay right away,” Watson said.

“Of course there were — and still are sometimes — plenty of failures. But I love the feeling of flow and focus that I have when I’m sitting at my potter’s wheel listening to inspiring music and working the clay. The studio is my sanctuary.”

She also fell in love with her now husband Andy, who was the teacher’s assistant in that same pottery class. “Our first date was actually my first time using the potter’s wheel,” she said.

Watson sold her first work while at BYU-Idaho after entering three of her pieces in an art show on campus and leaving them overnight to be judged.

Two of her works made it into the show, but it was the third one that sold. A custodian that worked nights in the building saw her work and information, then contacted her with an offer to buy the piece.

“I was just so happy that he saw so much value in it,” Watson said. “When I can make something with my own two hands that brings joy to other

people, it brings me joy as well.”

Watson earned an associate’s degree in art at BYU-Idaho, then attended Utah State University for a while, studying ceramics while she was there. Art and school eventually became lower priorities, however, as she worked full-time to support her husband through his schooling and had her first child.

An opportunity came to move back to Washington, D.C., and the Watsons took it. Watson had a pottery wheel she took across the country with her and used it occasionally, but without a kiln to fire the pottery, everything she made was temporary.

The family lived there until seven years ago when another job opportunity brought them back to Utah.

While searching for a home online in the Utah County area, Watson discovered Springville had a nickname: the Art City.

“That really actually attracted me,” she said. “It just kind of told me the values about this city, like OK,

they appreciate art, they appreciate books, and those are both very important to me, so I looked very heavily in this area.”

Now Springville is home, and she loves it here.

She and her husband now have four children between the ages of 6 and 16.

When her youngest was about 4 years old, Watson purchased a kiln and for the first time in her life was able to make finished pottery in her home. At first, she gave pieces away as gifts, but in late 2017 she decided to take a “leap of faith” and start trying to sell her pieces.

“I’ve had such a fantastic response from this community,” she said. Two local businesses, Lemon & Sage Market and Hobble Creek Coffee Company, sell her works and she also sells at local shows like the Hobble Creek Barn Boutique, Beehive Bazaar and Utah Art Market.

Most of her pieces are functional items that can be used such as plates, mugs and bowls. Her style is minimalist and inspired by nature; she uses neutral colors like blue, black, white and cream. Sometimes she will carve mountains or other nature-inspired designs into her pieces.

Watson loves being in the outdoors and works as a ski and snowboard instructor at Sundance during the winter. Her pottery work now fills her summers along with taking care of her family.

“I’m just amazed that I’m going to be in a parade for being a potter,” she said. “I don’t seek attention for it, but it’s just cool that our community values things like that.”

Watson plans to create a website for her work sometime in the future. For now, those interested can find Alison Watson Pottery on Instagram and Facebook.

Citizens of the Year 2019 Citizens of the Year: Patrick and Heidi Monney Patrick Monney was born in Victoria, Texas, to Pat and Wyma Monney and is the second of five children. He moved to Springville in 1969 and has lived in Springville ever since with the exception of a two-year mission to the Philippines for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He attended Springville schools, graduating from Springville High School in 1984.

He went on to graduate from Brigham Young University in 1992. While at BYU, he interned with the American Junior Golf Association, traveling across the United States and running golf tournaments for high school students being recruited by universities for golf teams and scholarships.

Patrick currently works as CFO/COO at Heirloom Clothing. He has previously worked at Wing Enterprises (Little Giant Ladders) as controller and then CFO, Logoworks as controller and InsurQuote Systems as controller and executive assistant to the CEO and board. He has enjoyed being a part of Advanced CFO Solutions out of Salt lake City and consulting for various start-up to medium-sized companies.

Patrick has been a member of the Springville Kiwanis Club where he served as treasurer, and he served three terms on the Cherry Creek Elementary School Community Council. He has served for the past six years as a member of the Springville Municipal Power Board and is currently serving as chairman of that board. He is also the co-chair of Art City Days along with his wife, Heidi, and enjoys coaching youth soccer.

Heidi Groneman Monney was born in Provo to Mike and Jan Groneman. She is the oldest of five children. She has lived her entire life in Springville, attending Springville schools and graduating from Springville High School. She then studied for five years in Cedar City, graduating from Southern Utah University in 1995.

For the past eight years, Heidi has been a part of the staff at Cherry Creek Elementary as a literacy technician. She assists children from kindergarten through sixth grade improve their reading and comprehension skills. She has helped manage the “take home” reading library program, tracking hundreds of children’s reading progress through leveled reading programs.

While raising her four children — Olivia, Michael, Andrew and William — she has also found time to help her husband co-chair Springville’s Art City Days celebration and has coached youth soccer. For the past 17 years, Heidi has also served as the PTA president and vice president and on the PTA boards for both Cherry Creek Elementary and Springville Junior High School.

Over the past 24 years, Patrick and Heidi have both served in various capacities in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, enjoying many years of service with youth and young adults.

They have also enjoyed supporting all the citizens of Springville through community service with the goal in mind of continuing to make Springville a great place to live. They are both proud to be Red Devils.

It has been nominated for the prestigious Donald M. Kendall Award twice, in 2012 and 2017, winning the coveted award in 2012. No greater honor is

bestowed within the Pepsi Cola bottling system. It is awarded based on market execution, product quality, customer service and community involvement.

A long-time member of the Springville-Mapleton Chamber of Commerce, Pepsi Cola of Springville has supported the chamber and many other organizations in the community through donations. It provides beverages for and participates in the chamber’s annual golf tournament as well as other chamber events.

It also assists Springville High School on an annual basis with scoreboard support and donations and has supported Maple Mountain High School through fundraising events.

“It’s a way of giving back to the community” that supports the business 365 days a year, Hernandez said. “It’s a small way we can show our appreciation for their support throughout the years.”

Annual Spring Salon The 95th annual Spring Salon, one of the longest-running art shows in the state of Utah, is now open at the Springville Museum of Art. The Spring Salon is a juried exhibition showcasing pieces by Utah artists from many backgrounds that were created using a variety of mediums. It will remain on exhibit through July 6 at the museum, located at 126 E. 400 South in Springville.

The museum is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays and from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Wednesdays. The museum is closed Sundays, Mondays and holidays (except for special events). For more information about the Spring Salon or other events and exhibits at the museum, visit smofa.org.

The Spring Salon was first held in 1922. It was begun by students and teachers at Springville High School who wanted to exhibit and promote original artwork. The salon has been held annually since that time except during World War II when fuel and other goods were rationed nationwide.

The salon is open to all Utah artists working in any media. Each artist may submit up to two works of art created within the last three years. Works over three years old are not eligible.

The entrants to the exhibit come from many backgrounds. There are many professional artists who enter their art for consideration, but many others are amateurs. There is a wide variety of art mediums including oil, acrylic and watercolor painting, traditional sculpture, mixed media and assemblage sculpture, photography and digital media. Overall, the exhibit showcases the diversity and quality of contemporary Utah art.

One tradition of the Spring Salon was the Penny Vote. Early in the history of the show, contestants for Art Queen from the high school received votes through pennies that were cast into a box. The contestant with the most pennies was selected as the Art Queen and the money went toward new art purchases for the museum.

5K Family Fun Run The annual Nestle Art City Days 5-K Family Fun Run will kick off Art City Days on Saturday, June 1.

The race will be begin promptly at 7:30 a.m. at Springville High School, 1205 E. 900 South. Check-in will begin at 6:30 a.m.

Springville appreciates Nestle USA for sponsoring this race.

Join with the 2,600 other runners, joggers and walkers participating in this popular event. All ages and abilities are welcome.

There will be prize drawings available for all participants.

The race will begin at SHS and travel east along River Bottom Road, then go north along Cove Street (2400 East), then west along Canyon Road, south on 1700 East, then west again on 900 South to the high school where the race will finish around the SHS track. Water will only be provided at the finish line.

For safety reasons, dog, bicycle and scooters are not allowed in the race.

Due to the size of the race, race entries are no longer processed manually and all race entries must be submitted online. To register, visit www.artcitydays.com.

Registration is $18 (plus taxes and an online registration fee) and ends Thursday, May 30. There will be no registration available on race day. There will be an awards ceremony after the race at 8:30 a.m.

Water will only be provided at the finish line.

Hometown Rodeo The annual Hometown Rodeo will again be presented at the Springville Arena during the 2019 Art City Days celebration. The rodeo is produced for Springville City by the Hobble Creek Riding Club.

Local stock contractor Rocking B Rodeos will be welcomed back along with Utah’s own announcer Monroe Magnuson. Joining the ranks this year is four-time PRCA Comedy Act of the Year, “The Wild Child” Troy Lerwill and his high octane, high flying motorcycle act.

The Hometown Rodeo will include heart-pounding events such as saddle and bareback riding, team roping, barrel racing and bull riding. There will be a cash scramble for youth ages 9 to 13 and mutton bustin’ for children ages 8 and younger.

Competitors are expected to come from around the state to participate in the rodeo.

The rodeo will be held on Saturday, June 1, at the Springville Arena, 767 W. 1600 South, Springville. Local Talent Festival On Saturday, June 1, some of the most talented people in Springville will perform as part of the 2019 Art City Days Talent Festival. Performers were chosen for this event through auditions.

The festival performance will begin at 7 p.m. on the outdoor stage at the Spring Acres Arts Park, located at 700 S. 1300 East, Springville. Admission is free.

Eye Spy Photo Hunt How well do you know Springville? Those who think they’re familiar with every aspect of this community may have a chance of winning a Walmart gift card through the Art City Days Eye Spy Photo Hunt.

Photos will be posted online at www.springville. org/art-city-days/eye-spy on Monday, June 3, at 9 a.m. of 20 different locations or objects in Springville.

Medallion Treasure Hunt Springville residents will be challenged to become super sleuths and use clues to find a special hidden item as part of the Art City Days Medallion Treasure Hunt.

Each day from Monday, June 3, through Thursday, June 6, at 9 a.m., a single clue will be revealed on the Springville City website that will lead searchers to a special Springville medallion hidden somewhere in the community.

Each clue will be somewhat cryptic, so it will require deductive thinking to put each part together and find the medallion.

The clues will be posted at www.springville. org/art-city-days/medallion.

In past years, the medallion has been found out in the open, but it also has been found inside a public building. There will be a message on the medallion giving specific instructions to the person or group that finds it, which could result in winning valuable prizes including a $50 Walmart gift card and a gift basket full of Springville Swag.

After the four days of clues, a final clue may be released on Friday, June 7, if the medallion hasn’t been found by then.

Only one person will know where the medallion is hidden, so peppering city employees with questions will do you no good. Be very specific in your search as you get closer to finding the medallion, but most of all, have fun!

Baby Photo Contest Show off your beautiful baby in the 2019 Art City Days Baby Photo Contest. Residents are invited to submit a photo of their baby with an entry form by Wednesday, May 29, at 5 p.m.

Each entry must include a registration fee of $2 for residents and $5 for non-residents.

Entries may be mailed to or handed in at the Springville Recreation Office, 443 S. 200 East. Only one photo will be allowed per entry.

The contest is open babies up to 24 months old.

Pictures can be any size from 4 inches by 6 inches to 8 inches by 11 inches. No Photoshop pictures or bath time or nude photos will be allowed.

Age categories are 0 to 6 months, 7 to 12 months, 13 to 18 months and 19 to 24 months.

All the submitted baby photos will be displayed at the Springville Civic Center, 110 S. Main, from Monday, June 3, through Friday, June 7, during regular business hours. The public is invited to view the photos and vote for their favorite. One ballot per person will be allowed each day, and the person must be present to vote. Voting will close at 4 p.m.

Spike 150 at the Library The Springville Public Library is inviting the public to an Old West party celebrating the 150th anniversary of the completion of the transcontinental railroad on Monday, June 3, as part of Art City Days.

The party will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the library, located at 45 S. Main, Springville. The whole family will enjoy this event, which will include games, a chuck wagon with snacks, a Spike 150 exhibit and a cardboard box train craft. Bring a cardboard box to make your own train.

A country band concert featuring Highway 89 will be presented at 11:30 a.m. No preregistration is required to attend this free event.

On May 10, 1869, the railway lines being constructed by the Central Pacific Railroad and the Union Pacific Railroad from the west and east were joined in a ceremony at Promontory Summit, Utah. This historic event shortened the journey across the continent from six months to about a week.

Four precious-metal spikes were used in the ceremony: two of gold, one of gold and silver and one of silver only. The spikes were driven into a pre-bored laurel wood crosstie. After the ceremony, the laurel wood crosstie and gold and silver spikes were replaced with a standard pine crosstie into which three iron spikes were driven.

Outdoor Movie Night The popular animated feature “Ralph Breaks the Internet” will be screened outside during the 2019 Art City Days celebration.

Art City Days Art Show The public is invited to view the Art City Days Art Show beginning Monday, June 3, at the Brown Art Gallery, 274 S. Main, Springville.

The show will feature works by members of the Springville Senior Citizens. The art will be on display at the gallery Monday, June 3, through Friday, June 7, from 10 a.m. to 6 pm. and on Saturday, June 8, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free.

Members of the Springville Senior Citizens organization may submit works for the show, which is open to artists from beginning to professional.

Each individual may submit up to two works in any medium — ceramic, painting, photography, fabric art, etc.

Those interested in having their work in the show should submit their entries on Thursday, May 30, between 3 and 5 p.m. at the Brown Art Gallery.

Seniors may offer their works for sale if they wish; the gallery will not charge a commission on any sale. Awards will be given for first, second and third place and honorable mention.

A public reception for the artists will be held Monday, June 4, from 7 to 9 p.m. where the public can meet the artists and view the show.

The show is being funded in part with a grant from the Springville Arts Commission.

In October of 2017, a fire destroyed the interior of the Brown Art Gallery and many art works housed there were lost. Owners Bill and Marilyn have restored the building, however, and opened it again earlier this year.

The art show will offer the public a chance to see how the historic building has been restored.

Carnival The annual Art City Days Carnival will be operating in the center of the city during this year’s celebration. Brown’s Amusements will again present this year’s carnival on Wednesday, June 5, through Saturday, June 8, in the open area surrounding the Springville Civic Center, 110 S. Main.

Wednesday, June 5, will be Family Night at the carnival; all rides will cost just $1. The carnival will be open from 6 to 10 p.m. that day.

Thursday, June 6, will be Buddy Day at the carnival. Buy a wrist band for yourself that day and the second wristband will be half price. The carnival will be open this day from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m.

On Friday, June 7, the carnival will be open from 1 to 10:30 p.m. On Saturday, June 8, the carnival will open at noon and close at 10:30 p.m.

Food Vendors & Craft Boutique The Civic Center Park in downtown Springville will be the center of activity during this year’s Art City Days celebration. In addition to the annual carnival, the park will host a wide variety of food vendors as well as a craft boutique.

The park is located at 50 S. Main.

The popular Springville Fireman’s Breakfast will again be held as part of Art City Days this year, with residents encouraged to get up early and enjoy a hot breakfast at the fire station.

Balloon Fest Hot-air balloons will again rise above Springville during the last two days of Art City Days as part of the celebration’s Balloon Fest. Early risers will be able to enjoy the colorful spectacle of flames filling the balloons will hot air until they rise from the ground, then slowly lift into the air.

The Balloon Fest will be held on Friday, June 7, and Saturday, June 8, beginning at 6:30 a.m. each day. The balloons will launch from the grassy field at Cherry Creek Elementary School, 484 S. 200 East, Springville. Admission is free.

Spectators are encouraged to bring blankets or lawn chairs and enjoy watching the balloons fill up and lift off. There will be free donuts, face painting and T-shirts available. Those attending can also sign up for a free ride in a tethered hot-air balloon.

Along with the excitement of experiencing the balloons up close, prizes and candy are tossed out as each balloon launches.

The 2019 Balloon Fest has 12 balloons scheduled to participate, including three tethered balloons to provide rides.

The Balloon Fest also includes the Orvil Anderson Cup Competition in which balloon pilots compete to show off their skills. Major General Orvil Arson Anderson, a pioneer balloonist, was born in Springville on May 2, 1895. In 1935, he and Albert William Stevens set a record by reaching a height of 72,395 feet (nearly 14 miles) in their helium balloon Explorer II. This record stood until 1956.

This is a great event for the community and everyone is encouraged to participate in the fun.

Quilt Show The public is invited to view beautiful quilts and other handcrafted items made by local crafters as part of the annual Art City Days Quilt Show.

This year’s Quilt Show will be held on Friday, June 7, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday, June 8, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at a new location. This year, the quilt show will be presented in the Cherry Creek Elementary School North Gym, 485 S. 200 East (directly behind the Springville Museum of Art), Springville.

Children’s Parade Children of elementary school age and younger will have the chance to decorate their bikes, tricycles, scooters, Big Wheels and wagons and celebrate Art City Days at the TLC for Kids Children’s Parade on Friday, June 7.

The parade will begin at 10 a.m. sharp in front of Grant School, 105 S. 400 East, Springville. The parade is open to children elementary school age and younger and admission is free.

Children are encouraged to dress up for the parade and decorate their modes of transportation. No motorized vehicles will be allowed in the parade.

For the safety of all the children participating, it is asked that participants wear proper safety gear.

The parade will begin at Grant School and proceed east toward Springville Junior High School. The parade will continue around the block past the junior high and back to Grant School.

TLC will provide snow cones to all participants at the end of the parade.

After the parade, children are invited to proceed to the Springville Museum of Art and participate in the Children’s Art Festival.

‘The Drowsy Chaperone’ The Springville Playhouse will open the musical comedy “The Drowsy Chaperone” on Friday, June 7, during the Art City Days celebration.

The production will begin at 7:30 p.m. at Merit College Preparatory Academy, 1440 W. Center, Springville. Doors open at 7 p.m.

Performances will continue on June 10, 14, 15, 17, 21, 22 and 24. There will be a matinee performance on Saturday, June 8, at 2 p.m. instead of an evening performance. Tickets are $12 for adults and $10 for students and senior citizens. Tickets may be purchased at the door or at www.springvilleplayhouse.com.

“The Drowsy Chaperone” is a parody of American musical comedy of the 1920s. In the show, a middle-aged musical theater fan plays a record of his favorite musical “The Drowsy Chaperone,” a fictional 1928 hit. As the man listens, the show comes to life onstage and he comments on the music, story and actors.

With a book by Bob Martin and Don McKellar and music and lyrics by Lisa Lambert and Greg Morrison, “The Drowsy Chaperone” was nominated

for multiple Broadway and West End theater awards, ultimately winning five Tony Awards and seven Drama Desk Awards.

The Springville Playhouse production is being directed by Michael Roberts and produced by Starr Williamson with musical direction by Michelle McManus.

Cast members are: JD Ramey as the Man in Chair, Debbie Allred as Mrs. Tottendale, Dane Allred as the Underling, Zach Hjorth as Robert Martin, Dave Chapa as George, Brian Butler as Feldzieg, Marta Myers as Kitty, Gavin Gifford as Gangster/ Pastry Chef A, Trey DeAdder as Gangster/Pastry Chef B, Jonathan McManus as Aldolpho, Sydney Carlson as Janet Van De Graaf, Jill Broadhead as the Drowsy Chaperone, Michelle McManus as Trix, Elise Moser as Superintendent/Ensemble, and Marshayla Suarez, Alyssa Garn and Dassia May as the Ensemble.

Free Entertainment Local talent will be featured on the UAMPS Stage in the Civic Center Park on Friday and Saturday, June 7 and 8, during Art City Days.

Watch and listen to great local talent free of charge between 1 and 6 p.m. each day in the festival area of the park near the vendor booths. The park is located at 50 S. Main in Springville.

Grand Parade Voted one of the best parades in Utah County, the annual Art City Days Grand Parade will be held on Saturday, June 8, beginning at 10 a.m.

More than 100 entries including floats, marching bands, antique vehicles, equestrian groups and more will make their way through Springville that morning as crowds of people cheer them on.

The parade will begin at Buckley Avenue and 400 South and then travel west down 400 South to Main Street. The parade will then turn north and make it way down Main Street to 200 North where the parade will end.

Once again, a parade announcer will be stationed in front of City Hall at 110 S. Main to introduce and describe the parade entries as they make their way up Main Street.

Blankets and/or chairs can be set up along the parade route with the property owners’ permission. Please do not block driveways or sidewalks. Be aware that automatic sprinklers may damage items put out along the parade route.

Car Show Art City Auto Body will present the 2019 Car Show right after the Art City Days Grand Parade on Saturday, June 8.

Lots of cool cars and classic hot rods will be on display to view close up and personal The show will continue throughout the day until 4 p.m. at Art City Auto Body, 587 S. Main, Springville. Admission is free.

Groovy music will be provided during the Car Show by the Junk Yard Dogs.

DUP Museum Open House The Daughters of Utah Pioneers’ Springville-Mapleton Pioneer Museum will be open to the public from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 8. The museum is located at 175 S. Main in Springville.

The pioneer museum houses historical items from the Springville and Mapleton area stretching back into the 1800s. Visitors to the museum can view wall photos, photo albums and newspaper clippings depicting many Springville and Mapleton pioneers. Display cases contain items such as farming and carpentry tools, weapons, personal items, clothing, dishes and children’s dolls.

Visitors can also do research about an ancestor or other individual using journals, histories and scrapbooks of newspaper clippings. In the children’s activity room, children can learn pioneer games and do other activities.

The museum is run by volunteers. It is maintained by the Springville-Mapleton Daughters of the Utah Pioneers Company. The Springville-Mapleton Pioneer Museum is one of 74 pioneer museums run by the Daughters of Utah Pioneers in Utah. The museum is open to the public on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 1 to 4 p.m. from March through November. Admission is free.

Legends Celebration Legends Vintage Motorcycles Museum & Events Center will hold its 11th annual Legends Celebration on Saturday, June 8, at Legends, located at 1715 W. 500 South, Springville.

This day-long celebration will include free food, music, a tiny tots carnival, a stunt show by Ride and Destroy and Outlaw FBX as well as much, much more.

Duct Tape Regatta Gather a team of friends, family or neighbors and head up to Wayne Bartholomew Family Park following the Grand Parade on Saturday, June 8, to participate in the Art City Days Duct Tape Regatta.

This event will have teams building boats out of cardboard and duct tape and attempting to paddle around the pond at the park.

Anyone can participate in this event, which will be conducted from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the park, located at 1090 S. 2900 East in Springville.

Each team entering the regatta can have from two to 10 members. The teams will each receive a stack of cardboard and a roll of duct tape and then be given 30 minutes to build the most sea-worthy boat and paddle they can using those materials.

One member of the team will then race the boat around a buoy in the middle of the pond. The first team to paddle around the buoy and back to shore without sinking will win.

Those wishing to participate should go to www. springville.org/art-city-days/regatta/ and download the 2019 Release Form as well as instructions for registering a team. There will be enough materials available that day to accommodate a maximum of 35 teams.

Free Family Concert The 2019 Art City Days festivities will culminate with a free family concert featuring The Long Run: Colorado’s Tribute to the Eagles on Saturday, June 8.

The concert will begin at 8 p.m. at the Spring Acres Arts Park, 700 S. 1300 East, Springville (just northeast of Springville High School). Seating is general admission. Those attending may bring their own blankets or lawn chairs to set up on the grass. Some seating will be available.

Audience members may bring their own picnic snacks or enjoy concessions provided by local food trucks.

The concert will be followed by the Art City Days Fireworks.

The Long Run: Colorado’s Tribute to the Eagles is a group of professional Colorado-based musicians dedicated to the faithful reproduction of the music of America’s most iconic band. The group was born from five of some of the busiest musicians on Colorado’s Front Range.

Laden with four and five-part harmonies, the band reproduces the Eagles’ hits with an organic ’70s sound, accurate lead guitarists, multi-instrumentalists and a lead-singing drummer.

The band has played at many of Denver’s major festivals, headlined at casinos and fairs, and appeared live on “The Deuce” Channel 2 morning show in Denver.

Its members are: Mark Trippensee, drums, percussion, acoustic guitar and vocals; Adam Rey, lead guitar, acoustic guitar, talk-box and vocals; Steve Weinmeister, lead guitar, acoustic guitar, mandolin, piano and vocals; Bil Hopkins, bass guitar and vocals; and Reece Morse, piano, keyboards, acoustic guitar, saxaphone and vocals.

Grand Fireworks Show Immediately following the free family concert on Saturday, June 8, will be the annual Art City Days fireworks extravaganza! This year’s display will provide a great finale to the festivities with oohs and aahhs all around.

The show will feature choreographed explosions set to music. The music accompanying the show will be broadcast simultaneously on 99.9 FM. However, the best seats for viewing this spectacular show will be inside the Spring Acres Arts Park, located at 700 S. 1300 East, Springville (just northeast of Springville High School). The music will be played over a sound system at the park.

The fireworks will follow a concert featuring The Long Run: Colorado’s Tribute to the Eagles. This concert is also free and open to the public and will begin at 8 p.m. at the arts park.
