HAPPY NEW YEAR DOLPHINS!! Wow guys! Can you guys believe it’s actually 2022?! It’s almost been a whole year since the term began! It’s nearing the end of senior season for many of us :( We have only 6-7 months left until we are officially graduated and out of high school! We have to keep on grinding for these last couple of months not only in school but also in Key Club! We are nearing the ends of our goals, and I know we can reach it by the end of May! So go out and serve, push and participate in fundraisers, and make sure to have fun while doing so! For many of you guys, you just need a little push to get over your fence of thoughts. Whether it be going for awards, or running for that position you want to be for the next term. Maybe it’s as small as talking to your key club friend crush at an event! Whatever it may be, you guys got it! Shoot your shot as many of us say! I believe in you so make sure to believe in yourself too!! If you ever need advice, or just someone to talk to or play vlaorant with, contact your one and only! Serving with a PORPOISE,

MEET THE PRESIDEN

Hey everyone! My name is Melina Vicente and I s Mater Dei Catholic Key Club’s President for this ter Besides Key Club, I also play basketball, run track the president of Mater Dei Students’ Haven Club, a help out at school as a campus minister among o things. I enjoy bullet journaling, spending time wit family, getting boba with friends, and, most of all, making memories!

WHY DID YOU JOIN KEY CLUB?

KEY CLUB MOMENT

WHAT INSPIRED BECOME PRESI

My school has a large service hour requirement, and I wanted to find a club that would expose me to multiple opportunities that could help me get my hours. Key Club personally stood out to me because of the type of atmosphere it created surrounding community service. I had a ton of friends who kept pushing me to join sharing all the experiences they have had as a Key Club member like going to DCMs, and I knew right from our club rush day at school that Key Club truly had something special about it. I eventually gave in to my friends and joined, and I am so grateful I did because, since then, I have learned so much and have made so many friends and memories that I know will last a lifetime.

My Key Club moment was during the virtual DCON earlier this year. There was one breakout room dedicated to singing karaoke, and I just remember everyone taking turns singing with the chat going crazy. I just found it so amazing how Key Club has that type of community where we can all come together and have a great time, even virtually. It also gave me an opportunity to meet new people who I still keep in touch with now!

My school’s previou president actually in me to become Pres and going into my s year of high school just wanted to make most of it. She share with me about how experience in that r helped her grow a l and how she believ a great candidate a Her testimonies are pushed me to seize opportunity to take and run for presiden organization as larg Club.

Mater Dei Catholic Key Club holds meetings 1-2 times a month. At our meetings we play icebreakers to create stronger bonds between members and discuss club updates and service opportunities. We work very hard with our ASB as well to get lots of fundraisers going and projects approved to give our members fun opportunities to actively earn their service hours while leaving a positive impact on our community. Though we may be a small club compared to others in our division, our love for leading and serving others does not go unnoticed!

Althea Roque | MATER DEI CATHOLIC Happy holidays Dolphins! In the spirit of Christmas, MDCHS and SDSCPA partnered with VolunteerMatch in order to help out with the Brunch with Santa event from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm for a total of 8 service hours at De La Cruz Park. This event was for individuals with disabilities and their families for Christmas, so club members got to help out with passing around presents for all the children. Members even enjoyed a delicious brunch while assisting in setting up and decorating for fun festivities around the park while also facilitating carnival games for goers to enjoy! We also got to help prepare and serve brunch in the meantime as well as helping out presents with Santa. What a great way to get the Christmas Spirit going!! This is Mater Dei signing out!

DEZIREI ADATO | MAR VISTA This service event was sponsored by our local Kiwanis and Imperial Beach Neighborhood Center. Members and other volunteers gathered food and toys donated by the community. We collected canned food like fruit, meat, tuna, vegetables, pasta, sauce, pet food, and more. Rice and boxed goods were also accepted. New toys were also donated that ranged from ages 0 to 18 years old. Volunteers kept track of what was being donated and organized the items. Others kept a list, tallying the inventory, and others provided assistance for the incoming vehicles that were dropping off Goods.

BRODY O’MALLEY | SAN DIEGO On December 11, San Diego High Key Club participated in volunteering for the Santa Run in Pacific beach. We helped set up for the run, hand out water to the runners, and clean up after the run finished. We had seven volunteers help for four and a half hours each. We had a lot of bonding time and got to meet high-schoolers from all over San Diego, who were also helping out at the run. Our club found this event to be extremely successful and we are planning on participating in it again next year.
