What’s up Blue Turtles! With school being in session, I really hope you are still maintaining and taking care of your health. It is a stressful time for all of us, so I hope you are doing well, both physically and mentally. I hope we will all be able to meet soon, but in the meantime, keep on serving your community through Key Club services ! Whether it’s writing cards or donating photos, every contribution helps ! Especially during these times, our communities would really appreciate you and your contributions, and you can make a difference !

Swimming in Service,

Hi Blue Turtles! I hope that you all had a smooth start to school, and that summer has treated you well! Personally, I'm sad that summer is over as we will have to return to waking up early for classes, but I am still looking forward to all the fun Key events we have planned for the rest of the year! Thank you all for attending our August DCM, where we painted with Bob Ross and received over 90 attendees! Future events to look forward to include our September DCM, Key Club 101, and more service projects! As we all know, Fall Rally has been postponed due to the ongoing pandemic. However, this only gives us more time to reach our service hour and PTP goals! I am confident that we can reach our goal of $8,000 for PTP and 18,000 service hours by the end of this term! Keep on serving, squirtles!

Swimming in Service,

JERICA FANG, D10S LIEUTENANT GOV.

AUGUST DCM Throughout the month of August, our division has kept busy ! With the August DCM, in which members came together to learn how to paint a snowy scenery, through a Bob Ross tutorial on August 23rd, from 3:00-4:30 pm. Although it was quite a hard tutorial to follow, members were able to recreate the snowy scene beautifully !

KEY CLUB 101 Division 10 South held its first ever informational session this month! It was hosted over Zoom on Sunday the 13th, and over 140 students from all 10 schools were in attendance, with over 60 of them being prospective or first-year Key Club members

An FAQ session was hosted and a short Q&A session was held directly after. Additionally, all the members in attendance were able to enjoy a fun Kahoot before the presentations. Experienced officers gave presentations on various topics, from Leadership to Service Hours!

Hi Blue Turtles! My name is Theresa Huynh and i’m currently a junior at Gabrielino. This year I am serving as our Division Executive Assistant and my home club Vice President! Being apart of Key Club has certainly been the best thing I have committed my time and care for. I’ve been able to branch out of my comfort zone and discover a passion for community service through so many ways. With this experience, I’ve also been able to meet so many people and learn so much.

As a general member my freshman year, I did not expect myself to be where I am today, but Key Club has continued to show me that it has so much to offer- to everyone!

From a general member, I was elected to be my home club Tech Editor my sophomore year, and now I have continued my dedication as EA & VP! As an executive assistant, my duty is to assist our LTG as well as do monthly check in’s with 4 other schools in our division. As for being a vice president, I am responsible for finding service opportunities and assisting my president in overseeing our club. This club has genuinely impacted my life in all the positive ways possible and I’m so honored to be apart of it. D10S, our semester online has not been easy but I know we can push through for more memories ahead !

- THERESA HUYNH D10S EXECUTIVE ASSISTANT

For the month of August, Wilson key clubbers participated in the division’s August services. They participated in Ocean Hero, like Google, they can use this search engine to find things. But the great thing about this is that every 5 searches, Ocean Hero will retrieve a plastic bottle from the ocean. Another service was Rice Race, a mobile game that helps donate rice (or anything equivalent if they do not need rice) to food banks. The purpose of this mobile game, Rice Race, is to help fight against world hunger!

Gabrielino turtles were swimming in services during August! Gab Key Club provided a wide array of services for our club members to choose from. One of our most unique ones was the Donate A Photo service. Members simply downloaded the charity app and uploaded their picture. The app contains a variety of causes to donate to as well. Johnson & Johnson donates $1 towards the selected cause for each upload. Each picture was worth five minutes and members could earn up to 1 hour and 15 minutes by uploading an image a day before the due date. It also helped students who don’t have money, donate to charities they care about. Just by sharing images, key clubbers made a bigger difference.

On August 23, 2020 many Alhambra members attended the August DCM where members learned how to paint a winter landscape with Bob Ross. Division updates, awards, and Fall Rally requirements were mentioned. The event ended with a Q&A for all the new members who recently joined our club this past July. This month, Alhambra Key Club also had a general meeting. On August 29, Alhambra’s club president, Karen Nguyen, went over new service opportunities for the month as well as due payments and other updates regarding Fall Rally and DCON. Something new that was implemented in the club was a semester raffle. Ways to enter the raffle include attending events, completing 15 hours (1 entry/ 15 hours), and raising money (1/$5).

A few days ago, Alhambra Key Club members finally found out who their Pen Pal from Diamond Bar was! Maggie Xiang of Alhambra Key Club stated, “personally, I think it was cool talking to someone who I have never met. My Pen Pal and I share quite a few similarities. We both like to binge watch Netflix and we’re both juniors this year. We all look forward to keeping in contact with our new friends !”

Fundraisers allow you to help support the division monetarily as well as fill your requirements if you are planning on attending Fall Rally this year (3/5 fundraisers) !
