OneLegacy Donate Life Run/Walk 2022 You Hei Lau | Alhambra High School The month of June has finally arrived, marking the end of this amazing school year, but that didn’t stop Alhambra Key Club from being active within our community. As soon as summer started, Alhambra Key Club volunteered in the annual OneLegacy Donate Life Run/Walk 2022 on Saturday June 4th to celebrate the power of organ donation. There were thousands of participants in the event. Alhambra Key Clubbers were tasked with setting up water stations, filling water cups, and passing out water cups. As the event came to an end, volunteers were tasked to set down the stations as well.

Water Lantern Festival Samantha Loi | Rosemead High School On July 16, 2022, 30 Rosemead Key Clubbers volunteered to assist the Water Lantern Festival, an international organization, at the Whittier Park Recreation Center. During the service, which lasted from 3:30 PM to 11:30 PM, members were directed by festival coordinators to aid with numerous tasks around the venue. Some members were stationed at the check-in booth. There, they scanned people’s tickets and provided them with lantern kits. Other volunteers were told to make rounds around the park. They were responsible for picking up trash and ensuring the park stayed clean. When the festival ended Rosemead Key Club members gathered by the lake’s shore and collected and disposed of lanterns from the lake. Rosemead Key Club members also bonded with other volunteers, such as those from the Fountain Valley Kiwins Club. The clubs were able to exchange their ideas and advice on fundraisers, services, and activities.

Pasadena POPS Service Michelle Trinh | Gabrielino High

The service never stops! After Gabrielino’s school year ends, vice presidents, Jayme and Trinh, continue to work! They rush to find volunteering opportunities for members to participate in over the summer break and eventually land on the Pasadena POPS Service. After a 3-year hiatus due to Covid-19, Gabrielino Key Clubbers were eager to give a hand to this annual event. Volunteers helped organize and set up for the concert!

Despite the heat, members worked together to set up tables and chairs. They were also split into other tasks including ticket scanning and even illuminating a fountain walkway with flashlights! Amidst the volunteers was a crowd of people, creating an astonishing view. There were people of all age categories gathering for the orchestra. It was a long day of service, but members were relieved to see the smiles on people’s faces, and at the end of the night, members cleaned up leaving with a smile on their own faces.

Club Update Kathleen Valdez | Wilson High School In the month of July, Wilson Key Club has been brainstorming new plans for the upcoming school year. Since we are currently on summer break, we’ve been less active to give our members time to rest and enjoy their vacation. On the other hand, our cabinet has been trying to come up with some ideas that we can execute later this year. Our projects would be in relation to fundraising, budgeting, advertising, volunteering, participation, attendance, enjoyment (fun activities), and generally finding any ways that we can improve as a team and as a club. A lot of ideas are not entirely established yet, but we hope to have them finalized by the end of the summer. The school year is swiftly arriving, and we want to be prepared when the time comes.

For the month of June, members met at Almansor Park where the monthly DCM was held. To start off the meeting, members participated in a Rock-Paper-Scissors competition where each member went against one another until there was only one person standing. Afterwards, members were given rocks and colored paints of their choosing, and the rest of the time was dedicated towards decorating their rocks. During this time, members were provided the opportunity to bond with one another as they painted their rocks.

This year, for our annual Officer Training Conference, themed insideOTC, Division 10 South and Division 10 North held a joint training with special guest appearances from Division 15 West’s Lieutenant Governor Yahir Perez, and Division 15 North’s Lieutenant Governor Gerard Day. Members and officers alike, met at the Pasadena Salvation Army where they learned about what Key Club has to offer, the different conventions hosted, such as Fall Rally South (FRS) and District Convention (DCON), as well as the different home club positions and their responsibilities. For lunch, pizza and chips were provided. Members also gained the opportunity to learn and practice the Key Club chant that will be said at the Fall Rally. To end off the successful Officer Training Conference, everyone helped with setting down the chairs and cleaned up any mess that was made.
