DESCRIBE YOUR EXPERIENCE WITH KEY CLUB Key Club was something that I got introduced to in the beginning of my High School years, and has actually been the only club I've been a part of for all four of my years! I would say Key Club has definitely opened me up to new friends and just helped me to break out of my comfort zone! I feel like Key Club has been a great way for myself, and any other people who want to give back and service the community! WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO BECOME YOUR CLUB’S PRESIDENT? The reason why I decided to become Key Club's President was mainly because of how great this opportunity was. Not only would I be able to meet new people and work on my leadership skills, I could also become the main person in charge that could help lead Key Club to greater heights! I really wanted to see Key Club continue to flourish through my year and beyond, so I thought this would be a great way to leave sort of a legacy. HOW ARE YOU FEELING ABOUT YOUR TERM, WHAT DO YOU HOPE COMES OUT OF IT? I know that for the past year, we haven't really been able to do stuff due to quarantine and the saf ety precautions set into place. With this new term and a lot of us coming back into in-person, I'm actually really excited for what this term holds for us and just to provide the Key Club experience for people again. I'm hoping to have a lot of in-person activities, as well as many opportunities for people to see that Key Club is so much more than just something you put on your college apps for hours. WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE TYPE OF MUSIC, ANY SONGS YOU LIKE RIGHT NOW? My favorite type of music currently has just been pop music! One of the songs I've been really liking at the moment is somebody from keshi!!

Although we’re already in November, returning back to in-person school has surely been a ride of twists and turns. Nonetheless, the Alhambra Key Club have been keeping themselves active with their monthly services - both online and off. The Top 5 officers, led by President Madison David, have provided various impactful services for the club members to work on throughout the month. In the spirit of back-to-school season for millions of kids around the world, one of these virtual services included the “UNICEF’s Math for Good Challenge”. To participate, members answered several easy math questions in under a minute. Every correct answer raises $0.25 to the UNICEF organization to send to various organizations involved with education for all and poverty in youth. Known for its spooky season, October was also the month for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Members wrote empowering letters and cards to women who were recently diagnosed with breast cancer. These meaningful cards contain heartwarming messages to these women looking for strength during these turbulent times. The organization, Girls Love Mail, is continuing to stay open even during the pandemic, and Alhambra Key Club could not be more excited about collaborating with them this month. Additionally, Alhambra Key took part in a game known as “Freerice”, created by the United Nations World Food Programme (UNWFP). As the world’s largest humanitarian organization, the UNWFP aims to reduce the effects of hunger and poverty within underrepresented populations. “Freerice” was a fun and interactive way for members to get involved with this initiative by answering simple vocabulary questions. More recently, Alhambra High School had their Homecoming dance, and its huge turnout prompted several small fundraising opportunities for clubs to raise money. Alhambra Key was fortunate enough to host their own booth and sold ice cream throughout the night. With all the dancing, singing, and picture taking, students were out of breath and in need of the perfect sweet treat. Members, who took turns selling at different shifts, provided various kinds of ice cream to cool things down! Alhambra’s member list was also confirmed this past month as old members paid their dues. This solidified their commitment to the club for the rest of the semester - because caring is their way of life.

One of the most exciting parts of the school year began… football season! As the eagles were celebrating their Friday night at the football game, over at the concession stand were the key club volunteers. The key club officers organized a service project where members could help sell concession items while enjoying the football game, and they would also receive a free ticket! 7 members signed up for each of the designated days and worked alongside advisor Ms. Mao in the Beak, also known as Gabrielinos snack bar area. Here they sold a variety of snacks, spam musubi, cup noodles, and even boba! Guests and students hurried quickly to the bar as they knew that there would be delicious snacks to enjoy their night even more. A special appearance was also made by the one and only Ms. Foltyn, the kiwanis advisor! It was truly a special surprise for the key club members on such a special night.

During the month of October, Mark Keppel Key Club members wanted to become active and lead a healthier lifestyle while helping donate meals to partnered food banks. We found a way to enjoy the fresh air and earn some meals for those who are in need. This service opportunity aims to give members a chance to really go outside and maintain their physical health by walking, running, biking, and other activities, all while earning meals for local food banks. Every meal that a member earned, they earned half an hour of service. OH Another service event that Mark Keppel Key clubbers also participated in was Ocean Hero. Ocean hero was a way for key clubbers to help retrieve a plastic bottle from the ocean for every five searches. They were able to add this extension onto google chrome and make their time on the internet more valuable since every search counted towards a plastic bottle being picked up from the ocean. For 50 bottles a member earned an hour of service.

Wilson Key Club offered many service opportunities for the members to partake in this month. The first major event that happened was the Alhambra Pumpkin Run. After the mandatory volunteer meeting, members were given the opportunity to help stuff goodie bags for additional service hours. Prior to the Pumpkin Run, there was also a packet pick-up date where members could help distribute the running bibs and t-shirts to the runners. Finally, on the day of the main event, Wilson Key Club helped set up before the run and cheered during the run. The second major event was the LA Marathon. Half of our members helped at the starting line while the other half assisted the runners before the marathon. Surprisingly, some of our members were able to meet and take pictures with Zach King and Justin Turner! Although waking up super early was not fun, all of us still had a blast this month thanks to all the service opportunities. We look forward to future service events and meeting new volunteers from other schools.
