TEA TIME WITH LTG SALLY TSAI-TEA Wow, it is 2016. New year, new me, right? I'm totally kidding, but with this new year in session, it is time to come up with our tradition New Year Resolutions that oftentimes do not follow through with the majority of everyone. However, I CHALLENGE you to come up with a list of some goals that you have for yourself and maybe post it on a wall or somewhere that you would be reminded of the goals set for yourself that YOU WANT to fulfill by the end of 2016. With the thought of goals, I personally believe they are a great method to truly go above and beyond your comfort zone and achieve something you thought you never would! Whether it's goals referring to your personal life, Key Club, academics, family, or anything honestly, it is up to YOU to decide what you want to do with your year. For me, I have a couple of main goals in mind for 2016: 1. Continue being myself As outgoing and bubbly I may seem, I always have a part inside of me that I hesitate to bring out to people and I want myself to not hold anything back, my personality, flaws, and skills, with anyone. 2. Ending the Key Club term strong It breaks my heart when I see Key Club members or officers burn out because of the fall season or just simply because they forgot of the reason they are passionate for Key Club. As rough times may be during this time in age, I want to put a smile on my face whenever I am down and remember the reason why I am proud to serve as Lieutenant Governor - to serve the members the very best and bring the division to new heights. I plan to talk to most Presidents and Division Leadership Team members regarding the end of the term regarding their progress as a student leader and hopefully spark some motivation in them to end strong as well. If you are a member or another club officer and need some advice, please do not hesitate to talk to me! 3. Productivity Let's face it, we are all lazy at some point in our lives. As addicted I am to procrastination, I would like to begin procrastinating productively, or at least, refrain from viewing social media so frequently and start picking up a book and read for enjoyment! Now, go pick up a piece of paper and write down your goals for 2016! As crazy as they seem to complete them, truly give your best effort in fulfilling it by always considering it daily and even if at the end you did not meet your goal, know that you worked harder than before to get where you are at before! And with that, that is the key to success. To wrap this up, I invite all of you to attend Conclave at Perris High School on Saturday, January 16th 2:30 - 5:00 PM! With everything great, there is always an end. We will be electing our new Lieutenant Governor at Conclave, have a Division Council Meeting, and have a short service project involving cardmaking afterwards. Also, think about attending Proving Grounds 2016! We will be fundraising for Maternal Neonatal Tetanus, otherwise known as Project Eliminate, at our annual Talent-Showcase Competition at Paloma Valley High School on Friday, January 29th.

OUTSTANDING POLAR BEARS 5

MemBer of the Month: Melinda Meksavanh, CHAP Melinda had just recently started coming out to Key Club events in November. I remember she was apprehensive of attending Fall Rally Prep Pt. II since she was neither a member nor going to Fall Rally but she was eventually convinced to come out for the community service hours. Like many members, Melinda was overwhelmed with icebreakers, or especially the spirit session at the end. But as the event went on, I saw her open up and get into the spirit of Key Club. With her friends Allison Escutin and Caitlin Perez, she has been attending almost every single division event and has really opened up since I met her. -By Emily La, Division 6 South Interclub Coordinator

Officer of the Month:

john austria, rancho verde John Micheal Vincent Austria, there is so much to say about this officer from Rancho Verde High School. He goes above and beyond and will still manage his academics, social life, and military duties. He is always friendly with others and always tries to attend all the Divisional events no matter the distance. He puts Key Club as one of his main priorities - right next to playing with his kendama - and is always looking for more duties as Vice-President to grow as a leader and help out our club. -By Ricky Ta, Division 6 South Member Recognition Coordinator & Rancho Verde Spirit Coordinator

CLUB of the Month: Heritage Heritage Key Club never disappoints with their high-hitting completion of their respective Service Hour and Fundraising goals, great attendance at Division Events, and never-ending spirit as members. It is always a pleasure to see what Heritage Key Club has to offer. From an array of amazing ideas such as Member Recognition Night, Yuda Band Fundraiser, and Key Club Takeover, it has been a pleasure to serve a club with creativity and promising things ahead for them in the future. With the progress of raising money for Key Leader, dedicated Division Leadership Team members balancing academics and Key Club, and their officers hard at work, I look forward to see what they offer to the table for the rest of the term. Thank you Heritage Key Club for your amazing service and support!

What better way to bond with your fellow members and officers than by organizing a day out of the month to have fun! That is exactly what Chaparral High School did when it put on a Roller Rink Social at Murrieta's Epic Rollertainment. With the entire division invited, the event was a success that saw familiar and unfamiliar Key Clubbers come out to support the inclusive environment that our organization offers. Carving out a day over Thanksgiving break, this social was a great help for the overall repor between the members and officers which gave the club an activity of amusement to partake in to break up the fundraisers and service projects. With such a casual activity, you could really feel the connections being made between all of the dedicated Key Club members that turned out. The newly introduced members were very happy to see this event being put on and even asked for more events like it to help get them out of their shells and easily bring them into the Kiwanis family. Hopefully, Chaparral begins to have more events similar to this as the Roller Rink Social was a major success that helped to bring all the Key Clubbers together.

Members of Key Club in the 6 South Division dedicate time to their growing community in many ways. In the last month there have been numerous volunteer events and activities for members to engage in. Some assisted at a fun yet educational science museum for children, Pennypickle’s Workshop. Here they built possible skills for teaching or parenting later on and maintained a sense of humor despite the ever-approaching, panic-causing finals. On December 18, members showed their dedication to the community and pediatric patients, spreading holiday cheer to these patients and their families in this typically joyous time. At Barnes & Nobles, a popular bookstore, students volunteered their time by offering to gift wrap people's purchases. They did so while raising funds and educating people on the often misunderstood or stigmatized disorder autism. These students were very energized and enthusiastic as they brightened strangers’ day and brightened the future of people with autism. On December 11th, there will be an allinclusive event for the division, the DCM. Members of all the local high schools’ Key Clubs will join together in a festive unity, hosting a white elephant to exchange gifts with other members while enjoying each other’s company. As they enjoy themselves and partake in an enjoyable evening, they will again demonstrate altruism by making sandwiches for local homeless shelters. This kindly deed will also raise awareness and create connections within the larger community as well as being an encompassment of the values and mission which Key Club constantly attempts to uphold.

“I was so surprised at how many donations there were and it made me feel so happy to know that there are so many generous people. -Shanie Kim (PVHS Vice President)

STOP THE HUNGER

written by: GABE FABIAN, PALOMA VALLEY

This month our roaring polar bears set out on a holiday mission. They went out to help the families who were in need of food over the Thanksgiving holiday. The Sun City Community Cupboard put together typical holiday Care Packages for the families and individuals that were seeking a meal for Thanksgiving. The Care Packages consisted of a Frozen Turkey, a type of bread, and other items that were donated to the cupboard that week. Our dedicated members drove over to the location and assisted the employees with the organization of the donated food, the preparation and assembly of the packages, and distribution of the meals to the people. Over 100 packages were put together which in turn means over 100 families were served a love filled Thanksgiving dinner. We are lucky to have such dedicated and thoughtful members to be living among us in our community that are willing to give up their free time for the people who are in need.

fall rally south written by: Arianne jozelle, temecula valley In the month of November our division was able to attend Fall Rally South at Six Flags Magic Mountain. This event was very exciting for the members because we were determined to show off our division spirit and have a fun day with the other divisions in our region, the day was filled with many fun memories and it was a great experience for many of our members. What was most memorable about Fall Rally South was the fact that our division was part of the Top 5 for the stick, we weren’t able to get the spirit stick but it was still a very exciting experience for everyone.

written by: Nohely hernandez, rancho verde As the month of November became closer and closer, the anticipation for the much awaited Fall Rally. Rancho Verde Key Clubbers have spent weeks preparing for the annual event. Co-Presidents Dejah and Kim hosted several Fall Rally preps in our co-advisor, Mrs. Fisher’s room, in the days leading to the event. Members created tutos and signs in order to promote their personal social media names, alongside other encouraging phrases. It was truly inspiring to see the excitement of all of the members as they made their way into the Golden Bear Amphitheatre, especially since this year’s trip to Fall Rally was a first for a majority of our club attendees. The following week, Rancho hosted this term’s November Division Council Meeting on Friday the 20th. The theme for this year, Keysgiving, was inspired by the first Thanksgiving dinner. Members from all over the

11

division were asked to write what they were thankful for on a large piece of paper that scanned the length of the dinner tables and reflect on the progress they have made whether it be academically or personally thus far. The evening was spent participating in various icebreakers and activities that showcased the feeling of friendship and inclusiveness. Alongside enjoying the activities of the night, Rancho Verde held a polaroid booth and Krispy Kreme donut fundraiser in order to raise funds for individuals that are interested in attending DCON later this year. Over all, this past month has served as a time to reflect on our accomplishments as a club and we will continue to do so as we look forward to our annual Christmas banquet next week, where we will recognize and honor members who have showed outstanding work this past semester.
