TEA TIME WITH LTG SALLY TSAI-TEA Hello Polar Bears! Conclave has recently passed and this is the time to start getting our heads in the game and end it off STRONGER than EVER. It was definitely emotional seeing two of the most dedicated Key Club members run for the position of Lieutenant Governor last month at UCR with Division 6 North. In the end, Ricky Ta from Rancho Verde Key Club became elected our new Division 6 South 2016-2017 LTG. It is a pleasure working with an enthusiastic and passionate member like him and I wish him luck in the months yet to come once he becomes installed at District Convention in April! With a few months left in the 2015-2016 term, I plan to: 1. Rebuild the foundation of the Division - The strength of the division is built by the clubs. I would like to make a personal club visitation to every club in the division before the term ends and to offer them advice to prosper into the next term smoothly and sufficiently. I hope to have the strong clubs in the division maintain their reputation and continue to succeed and I hope to motivate the less active clubs into preparing for the next term. 2. Meet our Goals - Our Division Goals for Service (7,500 hours) and Fundraise [PTP - $1,000 (achieved), MNT - $3,000] have yet to be met. With only a few months left into the term, I am prepared to support each and every club in working their hardest to provide the most they can to the members they serve. 3. Keep up the enthusiasm - During this point in time, being a senior and slaving through college work (scholarships, financial aid applications, tours, etc.), can be quite overwhelming and tiring. However, I would like to give it my all these next few months and keep being motivated for weeks to come in order to perform my best as a leader to serve ALL of YOU! Now, with three months left in the time, what will YOU accomplish?

INTRODUCING YOUR NEW LTG ELECT: RICKY TA Hello Polar Bears!

I am Ricky Ta, newly elected Lieutenant Governor of Division 6 South and a junior at Rancho Verde High School. At the moment, I have no words to describe the level of excitement I am experiencing. I am still a little fazed in all honesty, fazed of all the events leading up to this very moment. Who would’ve thought that my short time at Division 6 South, gaining bonds, serving, and falling in love with this division would bring me to this point. All the encouragement from my friends, family, club, and even Lieutenant Governor Sally, had a major impact on my dedication for this division. I am glad to say that I will be serving you all through this amazing term and grow closer with each and every member. I would like to thank every single member of our division for all of your hard work, and dedication. Now that I have been elected, I am excited to bring what I have to the table. To help this division reach even greater heights, and to break the limits that we haven’t even set. Even if I must take risk, and sacrifice all of my life, sweat, and tears. I am ready to prove my dedication and determination, my drive and passion, my love and my life all for the division I will serve. I have many new events planned and many more ideas in the making. So please stick with me throughout this term, through all the hardships, ups and downs, -even left and rights-, because I will make this 2016 - 2017 term one, that will never be forgotten.

OUTSTANDING POLAR BEARS 5

MemBer of the Month: RYAN LAM, rancho verde Ryan Lam has never ceased to stop caring. He embraces the service and love he has for key club. He is always giving 110% effort in attending events, and helping others. He has been very inclusive with the rest of the division, and is always a treat to have around. -By: Ricky Ta, Division 6 South Lieutenant Governor Elect

Officer of the Month: LYHOUR LAY, CHAPARRAL

Lyhour is an ambitious junior at Chaparral High School holding the position of Junior Representative during the 2015-2016 term. Lyhour consistently portrays great character towards Key Club, portraying an ideal member of what leadership is. Additionally, Lyhour is always open-minded towards new ideas. He is always open to suggestions, and his welcoming attitude makes him very cooperative to work with. Plus, Lyhour is always willing to give a helping hand to his officer board when they are in need of his help. Lately, Lyhour has increasingly stepped up his game in Key Club as he has been more involved by attending an exponentially increased amount of events to display his dedication towards this club. For example, he recently attended Conclave at University of California, Riverside, to represent Chaparral Key Club. He is very passionate about what he does in Key Club, whether it be through service, spirit, or leadership. -By: Namphuong Nguyen, Chaparral Treasurer

CLUB of the Month: paloma valley Although Paloma Valley had quite the rocky start in the beginning of the school year, they have been rising these last couple of weeks. In this point in time, an allsenior officer board can be quite harmful, but they have come to turn things around with the help of Club Secretary, Marielle Formoso. Hosting the Division Fundraiser Event, Proving Grounds, has resparked their passion to serve and shown their true reputation in being one of the more reliable, yet strong club in the division. By being a popular venue for Division Events, a club full of Key Club spirit, and following through, I am happy to serve an amazing club in the division! Thank you Paloma Valley Key Club for all that you do and I hope you continue with your progress success! -By: Sally Tsai, Division 6 South Lieutenant Governor

ROSE FLOAT DECORATING written by: It's that time of year again, when the air gets cold and nights get longer. Its also the time for the annual Rose Parade held in Pasadena, California every year. The parade consist of many companies and sponsors from all over who create floats for their company which is entirely made up of plant material, mainly flowers to create a masterpiece of gorgeous designs of animals, people, and environments. The Key Clubbers who sign up to come decorate all had to wake up super early, around 6 am in order to catch the bus and drive the two hours to Pasadena from Temecula, many were too anxious to fall asleep on the bus ride. Kiwanis volunteers were waiting at the warehouse to greet all the cold but friendly faces of our polar bears. In order to keep ourselves clean, we were given free Kiwanis t-shirts to wear over our regular clothes. After that we head to decorate! Many of the volunteers were assigned to random floats, some who were brave enough climbed up onto the floats, others worked below gluing seeds to the sides of the floats or helping out at the tables cutting petals of the flowers for gluing later on. Lunch was served at 12 pm, and every gathered around friends on the grass of the nearby baseball field, the weather was just perfect. At the end of the day, many of them were very tired and were thrilled to go home, though having the opportunity of working really close to such beautiful creations was worth while.

SANDWICHES to save This month, members of Great Oak High School and other local schools’ Key Clubs joined at Linfield Christian School for the Division 6 South DCM. The meeting proceeded as usual, with ice breakers, an update from lieutenant governor Sally Tsai on upcoming events, and recognition of especially hard-working members. Once the meeting ended, long assembly lines were formed and the ingredients for peanut butter and jelly sandwiches were laid out. It was obvious that everyone was easily able to work together as a team. Jelly spreaders, peanut butter spreaders, and sandwich-ers were quickly designated, and everyone got to work making sandwiches. These sandwiches were to be donated to a homeless shelter nearby. The enthusiasm radiating from all participants contributed to the positive ambience encouraged in Key Club. As always, the division meeting was successful and representative of Key Club’s goal to encourage young adults to become leaders in their communities by volunteering for service events and improving communication skills.

MEMBER RECOGNITION NIGHT - chris lam, heritage Students dashed out of classrooms right when the bell rung on December 16th after sitting for 2 hours for finals. Key Clubbers walked to J103 for the annual Heritage Member Recognition night, where members received certificates of membership, their ID, member handbooks, and awards! Everyone was dressed in formal or business casual clothing and excited to receive their recognition as being a Key Clubber. Or, they were in anticipation to dive into the food the officers had planned: cake, pizza, drinks, and popcorn. Nevertheless, everyone sat down, even a few parents, and President Andrea went through a power-point that touched on Key Leader. Then, she and Treasurer Mitchell called members up, starting with returning members, new members, and then officers. It may have been a slow process, but each person cheered and clapped for their fellow member. A very relieving and even uplifting event after a long day of finals.

Showcase \ˈshō-ˌkās\, Noun: an evenT, occasion, etc., that shows the abilities or good qualities of someone or something in an attractive or favorable way.

written by: gabe fabian, PALOMA Valley Every individual has a special attribute that is noticeably unique compared to any other. A hidden talent can be a wide range of activities such as singing, dancing, and everything that may lie in between. As one puts in hard work and practice, they strengthen their abilities to a higher and more magnificent levels. Once you have perfected your craft there will come a time to present it to the public. Proving Grounds is the perfect place to perform and watch others present what they have worked so hard on. Proving Grounds is an event that is put together by Paloma Valley Key Club. The main purpose of the event is to raise money for MNT to help families in third world countries while encouraging a sense of community and friendship. The night is a compilation of special talents that shine under the brilliant spot lights of the theater. It is more than just a showcase, it is a competition. There are two categories that the performances are placed in. An exibitionist is one that is not being judged and is performing to show their talents to the world. A competitor is one that is being judged and will be doing their absolute best to astonish the crowd. For the audience, the night is a bonding experience. A place to get out of the house and have a wonderful time with one another. It is a common topic in which family and friends can talk about for weeks and weeks. This is not an event you want to miss out on. Bring your Friends and Family to the big night everybody will be talking out.

polar holidays

written by: ROBERTO CEJA, RANCHO VERDE

This December was a very productive month for our Rancho Verde Key Club. In total we had four events this month which included the Christmas Parade service event, the Rose Bowl Float service, the December DCM, and our own Keysmas Potluck. The first event which was the Christmas Parade service event in old temecula went great with our members helping set up the parade. The second event of the month was the Rose Bowl Float service event where we helped decorate floats and prepare materials for the floats to be decorated with. There is also the months DCM which was the first ever DCM held at linfield where we also created sandwiches for the needy. Finally there was our club’s own Keysmas Potluck where we had lots of food and slides to inform about our upcoming Disney run. All in all December was a pretty good month for our club.

Officer Secret Santa - arriane jozelle, TEMECULA VALLEY In the month of December the officers of Temecula Valley Key Club decided to have their own Secret Santa event during their Weekly officer meetings on Tuesday. This event was created in order to have the officers grow closer together and have more of a bond. The President of our Key Club had written each of the names onto a piece of paper and they each picked one anonymously. The limit for the gifts were to be $10 each and they were distributed the day before Winter Break. The little event definitely was able to make the officers feel a little closer and to have a bonding moment.
