MASTER OF SCIENCE IN ATHLETIC TRAINING

WHY WOULD YOU CHOOSE THE ATHLETIC TRAINING PROGRAM AT CUMBERLAND UNIVERSITY?

T

he Cumberland University Master of Science in Athletic Training Program (MSAT) is designed to prepare you for a career in athletic training. The program consists of both academic and clinical education experiences designed to prepare you with the skills you need to pass the Board of Certification (BOC)exam and lead a successful career as an athletic trainer.

In the MSAT program, your learning expands beyond the classroom You’ll gain hands on experience assisting in the daily delivery of healthcare to intercollegiate athletes at CU, as well as patients in alternate settings, as part of the clinical education program.

The MSAT program is 61 credit hours [fall (14cr), spring (15cr), summer (8cr), fall (12cr), spring (12cr)] that requires continuous enrollment. There are two track options for enrollment. The graduate track option is for those who have completed a baccalaureate degree and meet the requirements. The undergraduate track option (3+2) is for those that do not have a baccalaureate degree.

TWO TRACK OPTIONS:

Exercise and Sports Science (3 +2):

This track is intended for undergraduate students that are either freshman or transfer students. Upon the successful completion of the 5 year program, the student will earn a Bachelor of Science in Exercise and Sport Science (BS) and a Master of Science in Athletic Training (MSAT). The Bachelor of Science degree will be granted after successful completion of the fourth year. All students will have completed the general education core and the Exercise and Sport Science major requirements by the end of the third year. The remaining 29 credit hours required for the BS degree will be earned through the graduate athletic training courses earned during the fourth year [fall (14cr) and spring (15cr)]. The fifth year consists of 32 total credit hours [summer (8cr), fall (12cr), and spring (12cr)].

You'll develop a close relationship with your professors and classmates and receive individualized attention and hands on experience through each step of the program.

Master of Science in Athletic Training:

The 2-year track is for students who have already earned their baccalaureate degree (not in athletic training) and have completed the required prerequisites. This MSAT is appropriate for graduates who would like to join the Athletic Training profession by becoming a Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC).

The MSAT is 61 total credit hours and must be completed in five consecutive semesters [fall (14cr), spring (15cr), summer (8cr), fall (12cr), spring (12cr)].
