NUTRIENT SYSTEM AND STRATEGY

LEADING CULTIVATORS TO 40% THROUGH INNOVATION AND CULTIVATION

HOW IT ALL BEGAN…

The founders of KALIX, Reny Townsend and I, Orion Tang, first met in our small town elementary school in the Emerald Triangle of California. For decades, the two of us grew cannabis in caves, basements, attics, and our grandparents’ garages, developing our own unique growing styles and inputs to improve quality and yield while lowering cost per gram. It’s safe to say if it’s got walls and a roof, we’ve used it to grow cannabis.

After using many different nutrient programs within various growing environments, we at KALIX have developed a responsive cultivation strategy, enhanced by our customizable inputs, that results in optimized yields and improved quality.

We learned throughout our 8 years at the Hard Knocks Academy for Legacy Growers and hours spent cohorting at trim parties, trading ideas for improving each harvest. Like all cultivators, we’ve had our ups and downs. Once, a goat ripped through our harvest after climbing through the basement window. Another time, a massive flood swept through the attic of our house while grandma was visiting. Then of course there are your basic run of the mill emergencies; teardowns two weeks before harvest,

environmental issues resulting in powdery mildew that ruined entire crops, persistent bug infestations, and, of course, nutritional irregularities due to improper mixing by well known fertilizer companies. We like to think we’ve seen it all.

Necessity is known as the mother of invention, and the saying held true for us. We began creating products that helped us to achieve our goals. We refined our strategy through testing and diligence. In 2009, our first company, RAW NPK Industries, was born into the cannabis-specific nutrient space, allowing us to provide cultivators with clean, simple inputs in their purest form. Our model and product proved successful, and as productions grew and scaled we knew it was time for us to do the same. In 2017, we introduced KALIX. KALIX: Nutrients to reshape the industry by improving yields, maximizing quality, and minimizing cost per gram.

Utilizing tools such as our in-house laboratory and leaf tissue testing allows us to know exactly what the plant’s nutritional needs are throughout its life cycle. All cultivars require different inputs. We customize the feed program as necessary to maintain peak performance at every stage.

The resulting harvest is maximized by responding to environmental and nutritional cues, based on measurable data, and steering the plant to its optimal state.

INTRODUCING KALIX

Simplifying the way you grow, with cost efficient nutrient systems that produce maximum results. KALIX is built to be flexible, so we can cater to any cultivator’s needs in any environmental growing condition.

In our indoor hydroponic facility, our happy plants are fed exclusively with KALIX Nutrients, and they regularly test at over 40% total cannabinoids. Our in-house training and outstanding customer service is here to help commercial cultivation facilities hit these marks, optimize quality, and lower cost per gram.

NEED PROOF?

Try the KALIX CHALLENGE for free! https://www.kalixcpn.com/pages/ kalix-challenge

We can measurably demonstrate the quality of cannabis grown with KALIX Nutrients. Our business is a labor of love not only for our founders, but also for our cultivators and team members, who are as passionate as we are (and have been since our humble beginnings in caves and attics).

Our job as cultivators is to provide everything the plant needs to maximize its hormone responses in each stage of its life cycle while minimizing all other stresses. This is a delicate dance, made possible with our strategy and KALIX Nutrients.

THE TRUTH IS…

Growing cannabis is farming, and farming is no easy task. Every day we work with living things which are significantly impacted by their environment and their ability to uptake nutrients. We provide clean, simple formulations backed by a proven system, making it easier to deliver optimal nutrition.

Consumers today expect consistent, high quality cannabis. Commercial cultivators must seek out effective, cost efficient inputs to meet this demand. This drives competition and innovation in the market.

KALIX is up to the task. Take the guesswork out of growing. We will use our cost-balanced, science backed strategy to lead our fellow cultivators to success. Let KALIX be your guide.

WHO IS TERPENE WAREHOUSE?

We started in Heidelberg, Germany as an aromatherapy and skincare company, Clear Gold GMBH in the early days of CBD, 2015-2017. With the help of veteran aromatherapists (that had been working with Europe’s compound pharmacists to create herbal alternatives for common ailments), we were able to easily transition those same principles to the evergrowing cannabis and hemp industry. In 2017, a year after cannabis restrictions began loosening up for recreational use in California, we began applying our practice to the burgeoning cannabis vape market, by formulating terpene blends for the local market in Orange County. With our background in aromatherapy, we were

already privy to a much wider array of compounds that contribute to a plant’s medicinal benefit, aroma, and flavor, than the cannabis industry was even ready for.

In 2018, after honing in our craft, we introduced Terpene Warehouse at our first tradeshow, MJ Biz, and we’ve been growing and expanding ever since. This year, 2023, we will be opening our brand new 6300sqft manufacturing facility in Costa Mesa, California, and expanding our European presence from our office just outside of Frankfurt, DE.

BENEFITS OF TERPENES?

Terpenes are responsible for providing plants with their aromatic profiles. They are considered psychoactive molecules because they interact with the chemistry in the brain but are non-intoxicating on their own. Terpenes act indirectly (apart from caryophyllene) on the ECS and directly with other systems like neurotransmitters and hormones. Some terpenes increase the assimilation of other cannabinoids while others affect the flow of dopamine and serotonin. This synergy between terpenes and cannabinoids is the influential force that determines the effects of hemp & marijuana products on the user, also known as the entourage effect.

TOMORROWS BAD SEEDS

INTERVIEWEE: MOISES “MOI” JUAREZ

EDITOR: JESSICA

Q: PLEASE INTRODUCE US TO THE MEMBERS OF TOMORROWS BAD SEEDS

Moi: Starting with my bandmates, Ricardo “Rico” Estrada plays Guitar does Vocals, Justin “J Bird” Lannelli is on Bass, Matthew “Mets” McEwan is Guitar and Vocals, Patrick “Pat” Salmon bangs the Drums, and my name is Moises “Moi” Juarez, and I am the lead singer and co-founder of Tomorrows Bad Seeds.

Q: CAN YOU TELL US HOW AND WHEN THE BAND GOT TOGETHER?

Moi: Matthew and I met in 1999 at the Redondo Beach breakwall. We started jamming, singing songs together, and it just sort of clicked; the chemistry was like no other. So, we began writing music and playing shows all over the South Bay of Los Angeles.

Q: WHAT IS TOMORROWS BAD SEEDS’ TIE TO THE CANNABIS INDUSTRY AND LIFESTYLE?

Moi : Music and ganja go together hand in hand. Puffin’ on a spliff helps relax the mind and elevate the consciousness, putting you in a creative headspace. Many of our songs have been directly influenced by partaking in the pastime and we are advocates of the culture as whole. We support cannabis voting campaigns and laws and perform at cannabis related events nationwide.

Q: TELL ME ABOUT YOUR FIRST EXPERIENCE WITH CANNABIS

Moi: When I was 12 years old, I caught my little sister smoking out of a foil pipe on our balcony in Redondo Beach and I told her that I was going to tell mom. She quickly said, “try it, Moi.” It was love at first toke; I’ve been a fan of Mary Jane ever since, and I’ve taken her everywhere from parasailing in Tulum to parasailing in Hawaii.

Q: WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE WAY TO SESH?

Moi: I’m a hash head, so 710 Labs out of a Puff Co, and dabs all day 6 Star Fullmelt.

Q: HAVE YOU EVER WRITTEN A SONG THAT WAS TOO PERSONAL TO RELEASE?

Moi: Yes, I’ve written a few songs that have taken me some time to be ok with releasing, but it’s all about the message for the greater good.

Q: WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE SONG TO PERFORM?

Moi: Right now, it’s a new song called “iBurn,” which features our good friend, Dan Kelly of Fortunate Youth. Check it out: https://youtu.be/XXSUTTn5nfI

Q: DESCRIBE YOUR MOST PERFECT MOMENT YOU’VE FELT AS A PERFORMER?

Moi: Being on stage, pouring your heart and soul into your craft, is an indescribable high. The exchange of energy between myself and the fans is powerful. It’s hard to pick just one perfect moment, but if I had to, I’d say that nothing’s felt better than jumping on stage at BeachLife. The boys and I love our community, so getting to play a massive hometown festival like that was such an honor.

Bad Seeds & Co.

Bad Seeds & Co. is our own little creative space where we sell Tomorrows Bad Seeds merch, rehearse, produce music, perform and/ or host private events and create content. In 2018, we were sharing the space with a few other local brands at what was then known as, “Rox.” When the pandemic hit, we decided to take over the spot and use it to help provide tour support for the band. We changed the name to Bad Seeds & Co. and opened up a storefront in February of 2021.

Ladies and Gents, at this time I would like to invite you to embark with me on a journey through history, and the weeds of our minds, to discuss cannabis and mental wellness.

We’ve all been down from time to time. Most of us have experienced moments of what we might call emotional instability, or even erratic behavior. But are prescribed antidepressants and mood stabilizers really the answer?

First of all folks, I’d like to preface this article by saying that I am in no way a medical professional, and by no means am I giving medical advice. The following is purely based on my own opinions and research.

WEEDING THROUGH OUR MINDS’

DEDICATED TO KAYCEE FIREFLY, WHO LIT UP THE LIVES OF THOSE AROUND HER.

AUTHOR: JESSICA SERRANO

INTERVIEWEE: KAYCEE FIREFLY

ARTWORK: SEAN DIETRICH HTTPS://SEANDIETRICHART.COM/

1) Endocannabinoids, which are molecules naturally found in the body.

2) Endocannabinoid Receptors, which are predominantly found in your central and peripheral nervous systems, especially immune cells.

3) Enzymes, which break down Endocannabinoids after they’ve served their purpose.

This system works to regulate a multitude of functions, but for the purpose of this article, I’m going to focus specifically on its responsibility of cognitive support and emotions, such as depression and anxiety.

That being said…

Historically, the use of cannabis for medicinal purposes goes back millennia, the earliest record dating back to approximately 2800 BC in China. In fact, ancient civilizations around the world were reported to have used it to treat everything from chronic pain to malaria, as a form of anesthesia, and even to prevent seizures.

Now let’s briefly talk about the Endocannabinoid system...

The Endocannabinoid System (ECS), identified in the early 1990’s, is a communication system between your brain and body, and is made up of three main parts:

The non-psychoactive component of cannabis, CBD, works nearly as well as it does alongside its euphoric friend, THC, but without the ‘high’ associated with it. One of my personal favorites is Regeneration CBD, 1111mg.

An Interview With Kaycee Firefly…

Unsurprisingly, Anti-anxiety prescriptions are on the rise over 30%, while antidepressants have risen steadily, almost 25% since 2020.

But, I’d like to share with you now, the tale of one woman by the name of Kaycee Firefly, who decided enough was enough, and took matters into her own hands.

I had the pleasure of interviewing Mz. Firefly as she spoke freely and uninhibited about her personal journey through the weeds of her own mind, and the chemicals she was prescribed.

Kaycee’s story begins at only 17 when she was diagnosed with depression, and prescribed Wellbutrin, an antidepressant and Dopamine Reuptake Inhibitor known to have serious possible side effects including fainting, tinnitus, irregular heartbeat, and anxiety. Unsurprisingly, the positive effects of the drug were only temporary, and led to a spiral of onagain, off-again and re-medicating, only ever chasing the management of her symptoms, never treating the imbalance from homeostasis.

Some years later, after much frustration, and plagued with depression and night terrors, Kaycee was introduced to cannabis, and found herself in a whole new world. In this world, she was free of her anxiety, and found herself open, and laughing in ways she hadn’t in years. More importantly, these feelings of happiness and relaxation would carry over into the following day.

Kaycee describes to me what she calls the ‘Hiking Trails of our Minds’...

We go through life, walking paths that are familiar to us, and neatly paved. Our default in difficult

cannabistalkmagazine.com // premiere issue
FEATURE //////////////////// cannabistalkmagazine.com // premiere issue // pg. 12

times is to seek comfort in what we know best. But sometimes, the most familiar roads to us are those of sadness, anger, or fear.

Now friends, imagine there exists a road less traveled. This road is unfamiliar to you, and you’re unsure where it will lead. It’s been neglected for some time, and overgrown with weeds. This road is called ‘Happiness’, and it’s on just the other side of fear.

Kaycee began to walk this road, just a few steps at a time each day, with a little help from cannabis. This road began to feel familiar, and with each step, she found the courage to go a little further each day, and the weeds began to clear.

Removing what negative components we are able to from our lives, of course, is key, and taking the

necessary steps to heal from our pasts is absolutely pivotal. But we are not products of our traumas. We can choose happiness and a positive perspective.

Happiness is a habit, happiness is a choice, and cannabis can help.

While antidepressants may suppress some feelings associated with sadness and anxiety, cannabis allows us to access all parts of ourselves and heal from within.

A dependency to chemicals creates an imbalance in the brain’s chemistry, making it harder to manage without them. Cannabis works with your body’s natural Endocannabinoid System to create homeostasis, and stabilize stress hormones as well as imbalances of your body’s natural serotonin.

Cannabis may not solve all your problems, but it may help your overall mental health and wellness, so you can breathe a little easier, with a lighter load on your back, get motivated, make positive life changes, and find your way back to a better you.

The road to Happiness is closer than you think. All you have to do is take the first step.

The Mad Hatter “Have I gone mad?’

Alice ”I’m afraid so. You’re entirely bonkers. But I’ll tell you a secret. All the best people are.”

Somewhere in some dark, dingy bar where the carpet is more like a smeared goo, and the bartender may accidentally drop his cigarette ash in your beer, Sean Dietrich’s creativity is hanging out. His creativity is absorbing the stories of the locals who have worked the factories for 30 years, gone through mental and physical war and destruction, or are just reciting what the drugs are telling them to say after too many years and too many parties. After a while, and many drinks, this creative side calls Sean for a ride (usually at some unholy hour in the middle of the night, or just as the sun’s rising), and waits for Sean to pull up so he can slump back inside of

his brain. Once back inside of him, Sean sets out to sift through that night’s stories that are being relayed to him--twisting and mixing and fleshing out new paintings that bring a vibrant macabre and weirdness to the canvas.

Some notable companies that have successfully taken to Sean’s art include: Zippo, Facebook, Playstation, OCB Rolling Papers/Republic Brands, Pabst Blue Ribbon, Asahi Beer, Gourmet Innovations and Genius Pipe.

“My early comics are ink splashed pages, with the highlights carved out with a razor blade, so much so that much of the original art has holes in them. I would burn the edges, drip whiskey on the page, and subject my art to other methods of abuse just to get that ‘industrial look’.”

WHO THE F CK

IS DOREEN SULLIVAN

MANY KNOW HER , everyone loves her...

Doreen Sullivan, not just an Entrepreneur but an ULTRAPRENEUR, has been changing cannabis culture since she had her final “Hide the Bong Dance” in 2015.

A career creative, Doreen Sullivan is no amateur when it comes to designing products. Before making vases (ok, bongs) to consume flowers (ok, weed) she was the Founder and CEO of Post No Bills, an award-winning entertainment marketing agency whose superpower was designing and manufacturing products and promotions that created a PR buzz for clients such as Dreamworks, Disney, ESPN, and the US Olympic Committee. The Legacy of Sullivan’s career before she entered the Cannabis space is phenomenal – from her 1st project, field marketing for the original Dirty Dancing, to five Super Bowls working with ESPN, Sullivan has had

once in a lifetime projects, regularly. Now she is here at her 6th Super Bowl, this time representing her own brand, My Bud Vase™.

“What a career high it is for me to be back at the Super Bowl with my own Super BOWL!” Doreen laughs at the irony and the journey she passionately creates. “Actually, the real reason I’m here is to work closley with our industry to evolve cannabis culture forward by supporting the rights of NFL athletes with their choice to medicate and heal as they see fit. We are here on a mission to end cannabis probition and we’re going to do it in the most beautiful of ways.”

Sullivan is no stranger to prohibition as she built her bong biz in a prohibition state. How fortunate for the busy businesswoman and single mother of two, constantly concealing her consumption, that her final “hide the bong dance” resulted

in her placing her bong amongst her flower vases in her home. It was there she noticed the similar shapes and wondered why she had been smoking out of something so ugly and so phallic; Voila, My Bud Vase™ was born. With Doreen Sullivan’s incredible product development background, she invested in herself, put her agency on hold and obsessed over her discovery; a new way to consume cannabis. Now 3.5 million dollars worth of vase sales later, every piece is developed with intention and given a personality and story. My Bud Vase™ makes Smoking Cannabis Beautiful from the Signature Collection to the Vintage and Artisan Vases each My Bud Vase™ is elegantly crafted to bring art, expression and discretion to your cannabis lifestyle.

What started as a fun passion project curating vintage vases and turning them into bongs has now turned into a global (and

quite popular) business earning her International Attention and Awards such as Top Bong of Canada and Art Basel Showcases, National Press from Forbes, Newsweek and Viceland not to mention the celebrities that enjoy the artistry of My Bud Vase™ (Flava Flav, Snoop Dogg, Martha Stewart, Miley Cyrus, The Chain Smokers, Jim Belushi, Amber Rose, Margo Price, Andy Frasco to name a few).

Doreen Sullivan; creative genius, marketing guru, master product developer, cannabis activist, not just the CEO and Founder of 1 company, but 3 (maybe 4... she just can’t stop!) She’s Creativity in Motion and fun to watch Bloom BIG. To follow along her journey and find the perfect vase for your space, go to @mybudvase and @ doreen_sullivan_on Instagram, Facebook or www. mybudvase.com.

The global cannabis culture continues to grow in the billions, but the products that support women, who are over half of the industries’ consumers, do not. Many cannabis accessories and products that perform well for men are intimidating and distasteful for ladies and new consumers.

While brands are eager to target the growing dollars of the female consumer, there are limited products being designed for women, by women, who actually consume cannabis. This is expecially true in the luxury and home goods catagories.

TEAM UP TO ELIMINATE CANNABIS TESTING IN THE NFL - IT’S TIME TO PUT PLAYERS OVER PROFITS

DEREK DURONSLET, COO OF REVENANT

A Leader, And A Fighter. Destination: Journey

“It Doesn’t Matter Where You Come From, What Matters Is Where You’re Going.”

ClubCorp: a 60 year old company and leader in the private club world who was seeking guidance to build infrastructure. “The biggest success was how they navigated through covid. 2020 was tracking towards a record sales year. Then the pandemic hit. We went from having more than $100 million on the books to wondering how we were going to survive, and feed our employees. I had a year to do nothing but invest in people, and it changed me. I was a leader turned protector. We shifted from sales to retention. We had to contact everyone that had plans at ClubCorp, knowing we could lose millions of dollars. We took an approach of empathy and humanity, and in taking that approach, retained more customers than we could have ever anticipated, and came out of 2021, beating 2019’s record sales numbers.”

Born in SoCal, Derek spent his days in high school, like many, dreaming of becoming a professional athlete. Disenchanted with the college recruitment process, he went on to the military at only 18 and became a firefighter in the United States Air Force. Derek was stationed in England and traveling through Europe, growing up far from home, and trying to define himself in a system built to follow command. Quickly realizing that the only way to separate himself from the rest was to outwork them, he earned an Associates Degree in Fire Science, which quickly propelled his military career, ranking ‘Senior Airman Below The Zone.’

But despite his accomplishments, entering back into the civilian world as a firefighter wouldn’t be as easy as one might think.

Realizing there was still a long road ahead, Derek made the decision to re-educate himself as a civilian, and went back to school to study business, and learn about human behavior.

Derek proceeded to educate himself and climb up the corporate ladder. Breaking all-time sales records working in companies like McDonalds, American Golf, and Lucky Strike, Derek gained recognition helping these businesses and individuals thrive. “Serve the people, and they will seek you out. You become the reason people come back.” - Derek D.

It was in 2018 when he learned the most valuable lessons thus far, when his mentor from American Golf asked him to interview with

Derek felt fulfilled professionally, but the time he was able to spend with his family was limited, and in 2022, to better nurture his personal life decided to start a consulting company.

A LESSON FROM THE PROS…

Revenant soon came into the picture, when Derek had the opportunity to sit down with NFL legends Jim McMahon and Kyle Turley. He listened to their stories about using cannabis to heal mental and physical pain acquired during their football careers. He learned about the repercussions that NFL players had to pay in the form of fines, suspensions, and fallen reputations for self medicating with a harmless plant, all while being prescribed dangerous opiates and amphetamines. But one of the most surprising lessons was about a group of individuals tokened ‘The Pre-93ers’: former NFL athletes that played before 1993 who were left with no pension, retirement fund or medical assistance.

“Being from a black minority family, it’s always been in me to fight for people’s rights, but after a 30 year career, that fight in me felt rejuvenated. I don’t want to hear another story about death by opiate addiction, when there are organic and natural alternatives. I have one goal now: Break down the stigmas around cannabis, and do everything in my power to make a change, and I won’t quit until the NFL stops testing.” - Derek Duronlet

REVENANT, “TAKE YOUR LIFE BACK”

Founded by NFL legends Jim McMahon, Kyle Turley and Eben Britton, Revenant was established to provide premium quality cannabis with compassion and convenience, to address illnesses and injuries.

Bonded in brotherhood by their love for the game, the common thread that binds them now is undoubtedly their pursuit of the legalization of cannabis within the NFL.

“Our mission is to provide an alternative, natural way of healing without using industrialized pharmaceuticals.”

Like so many other NFL athletes, Kyle Turley and Jim McMahon suffer from CTE: chronic traumatic encephalopathy, a brain condition attributed to repeated blows to the head, which slowly gets worse over time, eventually leading to dementia.

When asked for the best piece of anecdotal evidence he has for the effectiveness of cannabis, after all the injuries and side effects and diagnosis over the years, Kyle Turley replied simply, “I’m still here.”

REVENANT / GRIDIRON GREATS

A PLAYERS PERSPECTIVE: BETWEEN THE HASH MARKS- KYLE TURLEY

“There’s nothing like the cannabis industry. It’s a truly inclusive thing that brings everybody together in health and wealth. If the media would only allow us to show what we’re really doing, it would change everything.” - Kyle

Kyle Turley is a former American football offensive tackle who played nine seasons in the NFL for the New Orleans Saints, the St. Louis Rams and the Kansas City Chiefs before announcing his retirement in 2007. He moved to California in 2014 to seek treatment after suffering from a plethora of neurological and orthopedic issues, as a result of constant impact to the head and body, as well as side effects from the harmful medications prescribed by NFL physicians. That is, the same physicians that prohibit the use of cannabis amongst NFL players.

WHEN ASKED IF HE THINKS THE NFL IS RECEIVING KICKBACKS FROM THE PHARMACEUTICAL COMPANIES TO KEEP THEIR PLAYERS MEDICATED, KYLE’S RESPONSE WAS CHILLING...

“100%, there’s no doubt. They’ve been on the forefront of pharmaceuticals basic testing labs. We’re professional athletes. What better way to see how a new medication works? I was on medications they took off the shelves worldwide due to side effects.”

A quick google search affirmed Kyle’s suspicions, dating back to at least 2003, when the NFL signed a $6 million agreement with Bayer HealthCare and GlaxoSmithKline Pharmaceuticals.

‘’The NFL is our ideal partner’’ said Nancy K. Bryan, a Vice President of Marketing for Bayer

‘’We’ll be able to reach 120 million fans each week.’’

- The New York Times

‘’They lend instant credibility to the product,’’ said Michael Kelley, managing director for the New York office of Relay Sports and Event Marketing

‘’I don’t think their primary goal is getting men to go to the doctor. It’s about selling their product.’’

- New York Times

“Opioid use is out of control in the NFL.” According to a Washington University study, 52% of players consumed prescribed opioids during their careers in 2011.

KYLE TURLEY GOES ON THE OFFENSE PRESENTING MEDICAL EVIDENCE IN SUPPORT OF CANNABIS USE TO THE NFL COMMISSION

In 2020, the NFL made a public announcement that there would be a meeting held to discuss the use of cannabis amongst players. Kyle boldly took the opportunity, and applied to address the group in an effort to change their stance on testing their athletes. Kyle presented the medical benefits of cannabis alongside some of the biggest names in the industry, not only to NFL, but to the Head of Neurology for the US Military, Head of Emergency Medicine, Head of Neurology at Vanderbilt University in TN, and the Head of Neuro Psychology.

It was a massive success, or so it seemed, when the NFL put out a press release later that evening. Sporting News reported “A lot will change with the NFL’s new collective bargaining agreement, including a new drug policy in which players will no longer be suspended for positive marijuana tests.”

SPONSOR DOLLARS PROVE TO BE MORE VALUABLE THAN PLAYERS

As the NFL season kicked off in 2021, Pfizer’s marketing strategy to promote COVID-19 vaccine, Comirnaty, went the extra yard. Data found by iSpot’s analysis that since Aug. 22, 2021, ads for Comirnaty aired 749 times on national linear TV, while nearly 30% of Comirnaty TV ad impressions appeared during NFL games, and over 63% of national TV ad spend was allocated toward the NFL in 2021 alone, according to FiercePharma.com.

WHILE PHARMACEUTICAL COMPANIES CONTINUE TO SPONSOR THE NFL, CANNABIS COMPANIES HAVE BEEN AVIDLY REJECTED...

In Fact, the NFL turned down 2 major offers from cannabis companies to buy the naming rights of the Denver Broncos Stadium, while accepting a lesser offer in 2019.

Under the NFL’s current guidelines, teams are banned from pursuing business deals with medical marijuana or CBD companies, whether in the form of sponsorship agreements or advertisements.

“A change to the NFL’s policy on marijuanarelated deals is not being contemplated”

- NFL Spokesman Brian McCarthy told FOX Business.

NEW REGULATIONS IN THE 2022 NFL SEASON

Staying true to their word, the NFL will no longer suspend players for testing positive for marijuana, and the league has developed new regulations, raising the threshold for THC from 35 ng/ml to 150 ng/ml.

However, players will still be tested, and if found to have over 150 ng/ml, will be fined up to 3 games pay. A hefty fee for consuming a medicinal plant found in nature, all while continuing to prescribe dangerous medications, owned by NFL sponsors.

JIM MCMAHON, EVIDENCE THROUGH EXPERIENCE; A PERSONAL JOURNEY OF HEALING WITH CANNABIS

“We are not here to fight, we are here to work with, educate and support the NFL, on how cannabis and CBD products can be utilized for the wellbeing of players in the league. It’s important to have an understanding that the people we love so dearly, loved the game, and we want to help them in their pursuit of well being.”

Jim McMahon is an American former football star quarterback, 2X Super Bowl Champion, 2X All American, who played in the NFL for 15 seasons, most notably for the Chicago Bears, and retired in 1996.

Now involved with the Gridiron Greats, Jim is a cannabis supporter and advocate.

Jim Moved to Arizona in 2010 when cannabis became medically legal, obtained his medical license, and was able to get off the harmful painkillers he had grown to be dependent on for decades. Over the years, Jim met with Dr. Uma Dhanabalan, a Harvard graduate with 40-years of experience who understands the human healing process with Integrative Cannabinology, Functional Endocannabinology and Cannabinoid Medicine, and was able to explain the endocannabinoid system, and help Jim fully understand the benefits of cannabis. www.Totalhealthcarethc.com

Jim explains, “This cannabis plant has so many healing properties to it, it’s not a drug, it’s a medicinal herb. The NFL has known for a while how powerful this is. We’ve been lied to for over 100 years, and the government has a patent on it.”

Hearing this, many people may be in disbelief, or think it to be a conspiracy theory, but he is in fact absolutely correct. Patent No. 6,630,507 was granted in 2003 to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, covering the potential use of cannabinoids to protect the brain from physical damage or degeneration caused by certain diseases, such as Cirrhosis or Alzheimer’s disease.

“Cannabinoids are found to have particular application as neuroprotectants, for example in limiting neurological damage following ischemic insults, such as stroke and trauma, or in the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, HIV and Dementia.”

- patents.google.com

After sustaining multiple concussions and serious injuries including a broken neck, folded sternum, severe brain, shoulder and neck damage, Jim retired in 1996. cannabistalkmagazine.com

// pg. 19

“(Upon Retirement) You could stay on insurance for another year or two and then you were done. After that I couldn’t get insurance and if I did, my premium was through the roof. I had to wait 10 years just to have shoulder surgery. I had 12-14 surgeries during the NFL, and 6 since. I believe cannabis helped me with my rehabilitation.

“Mike Ditka was my old coach, and got me involved in the Gridiron Greats. For all things said about him, he has a huge heart.”

Mike Ditka, who’s credits to the game of football are as long as his career itself, is an American former football player, Hall of Famer, 3x Superbowl Champion, 2× NFL Coach of the Year, and television commentator. Now, Mike Ditka is giving back to the athletes that served as the foundation on which the sport survives, through the Gridiron Greats Assistance Fund. www.gridirongreats.org

The Gridiron Greats Assistance Fund (GGAF) was founded to serve those in need, who played for the NFL, risking body and mind for the love of the game, but were discarded in many ways upon injury or retirement.

What many don’t realize is that if a player is not on the active roster by game 1 of year 4, due to injury, the NFL does nothing to help with the cost of surgeries, medical bills, medication, or even pension. And what’s even more shocking, is that the average NFL career is only 3 ½ years; meaning the average professional football athlete, many of which have sustained permanent neuro and physical injuries equivalent to numerous car crashes, and are unable to work, and left to plead for government disability assistance. Moreover, many players are often denied their disability benefits. And ‘Pre-93’ers, regardless of the length of their career, were given no retirement benefits, pension, or medical assistance at all.

“The worst injuries are the ones you really don’t see, that come in the form of a concussion, or getting your bell rung or getting knocked out, but they come back to haunt them 10 or 15 years later when they really have severe (neurological) problems.”

WE, AS SPECTATORS, SEE PROFESSIONAL ATHLETES AS UNTOUCHABLE LARGER THAN LIFE FIGURES. WE SEE THEIR NAMES IN LIGHTS, AND ON THE BACKS OF JERSEYS AND MERCHANDISE, LIVING WHAT MANY CONSIDER THE ULTIMATE DREAM. BUT FOR MANY, THAT DREAM IS ALL BUT AN ILLUSION.

But it doesn’t stop there, as discussed previously, the NFL has been sponsored by Big Pharma for decades, and denied players the opportunity to substitute addictive opiates and other harmful medications with safe, natural alternatives, such as cannabis.

“Mike Ditka was the first to support me in my fight for cannabis over 10 years ago, leading to the events we are now able to host at the Super Bowl and he supports Jim (McMahon) and I as if we were his sons”

“My man, Kyle Turley, toughest guy I’ve ever known” - Mike

“It took great fans to build the empire that is American Football, and it will take great fans to help us overcome the epidemic that is facing our Greats right now. Thank you for your support.” -

INTERVIEW BY: JESSICA SERRANO

INTERVIEWEE: D’ANDRE CALDWELL, CEO & LEAD CULTIVATOR AT TRUE NORTH FAMILY FARMS

PHOTOS COURTESY OF: TRUE NORTH FAMILY FARMS

D’Andre: My name is D’Andre Caldwell - Johnson, I am the acting CEO and lead cultivator at True North Family Farms.

Q: HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE TRUE NORTH FAMILY FARMS?

D’Andre: True North Family Farms, is and has always been more than just a cannabis business. The name speaks for itself: this is a family environment and family business. This company was founded based on my passion for cannabis and sustainable leadership. With the help of my relatives and a few other adopted

family members the team has grown True North Family Farms from inception, to where it stands on retail shelves today.

Q: TELL ME ABOUT EACH FAMILY MEMBER THAT MAKES UP TRUE NORTH FAMILY FARMS, HOW AND WHEN YOU ALL START WORKING TOGETHER

D’Andre: The founding members of True North Family Farms are three immediate relatives: myself, Darious, and Kenneth. I might be considered the leader and cannabis guru among the group. I feel

FAMILY OWNED BUSINESS FEATURE

this plant has saved my life and the lives of those around me. My younger brother, Darious joined the team in the early stages of business development. Darious has been a critical team member and adds a sense of youth to the organization. Darious helps to manage farm operations and facilitates day to day business activities alongside me. Kenneth is the fun one in the group, it’s always a party and a ton of laughter when he’s around. In 2015, Kenneth and I started our first PROP-215 outdoor grow together in Humboldt County while attending college.

Outside of the founding members the entire family has played a role in the development of True North Family Farms. Jackie and Rodney offer their sons the mental guidance and support they need to maintain a healthy relationship while operating a business. Macie their grandmother is the heart and soul of True North Family Farms, she’s the martyr of the family and the brains when it comes to finance, having been in banking for over 40 years. Dante is the youngest brother to Darious and D’Andre, and is still in college but always takes the opportunity to show out and support his brothers whenever the opportunity presents itself.

Q; WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO YOU TO WORK WITH YOUR FAMILY?

D’Andre: My brother Darious and I can’t envision life any other way at this point. We’ve worked together for several seasons now, cultivating some of the finest organically grown cannabis. It’s a beautiful experience to see the family at the farm for BBQ’s and gatherings. In the early stages of this business I would be chastised by our grandmother for my choice in business, now to see her hold a pound grown by her grandboys, the team could not be happier.

Q: WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO YOU TO WORK IN THE CANNABIS INDUSTRY?

D’Andre: We’re living out our dreams. Of Course the business still has years of development and progression ahead, but we entered the market as a cannabis brand in October 2021, and we’re amazed by the progress so far. We’re just going to keep our heads to the sky, feet on the ground, and hands in the dirt as we continue to accomplish our goals.

Q: HOW HAS YOUR FAMILY BEEN RECEIVED BY THE CANNABIS INDUSTRY?

D’Andre: The industry has welcomed us with open arms, the bipoc community of course, and beyond that we get respect as legacy operators. We’re first generation farmers, but this is truly our passion and our colleagues can see that.

Q: WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO YOU TO BE A MINORITY OWNED BUSINESS?

D’Andre: We realize this brand is bigger than cultivation, and it’s bigger than us. Our aim is to give back to oppressed communities. Educate and uplift those affected by systematic hardships. We want to represent the masses and be represented by them just as well. At True North, we feel we have a responsibility to our hometown of Oakland, CA and areas just like it to teach people the healing powers of cultivation in all forms, plant therapy beyond cannabis, and business from seed to sale.

Q: WHAT ARE SOME OF THE CHALLENGES YOU’VE FACED IN THE CANNABIS INDUSTRY?

D’Andre: We have faced many of the same issues most start-ups have. Access to banking and lending is a challenge many of us in the industry face. Coming into 2023, we’re forced to build back up as politics in the

county which we operate forced us, and a majority of cultivators in the region to to go fallow in 2022. Market pressures of the industry alongside a year of being inoperable will make this the most challenging year yet, but the strength we have as a family will help us through.

Q: WHERE DO YOU SEE TRUE NORTH FAMILY FARMS IN 10 YEARS?

D’Andre: We have a vision of True North being a global brand, as the world moves towards the acceptance and legalization of cannabis we want consumers to find us anywhere cannabis is available. We seek to have established a non-profit by that time, as well as opening a host facility for cannabis tourism. We have several short term and long term goals and we will keep working checking each off as we go.

MONDO

FROM MARIJUANA TO FIREARMS, MAGAZINES HAVE BEEN THE DRIVING FORCE BEHIND THIS ENTREPRENEUR

A Southern California native, Mondo Merino, grew up throughout Los Angeles, Orange County and the Inland Empire.

But it was during a four year stent in New in York that he began to reflect on his life, and felt in his heart that he had to make a change. Having previously been a cook for 9 years, Mondo headed back to his roots in Cali, and back to the kitchen, where he earned the opportunity to attend management school.

Determined to be more than a cook the rest of his life, he hit the library to study business, marketing and entrepreneurship. Then, perusing the internet one day in 2003, Mondo came across a Magazine by the name of OYE

(Open Your Eyes), a Latino men’s publication, based out of West Hollywood. He waited for two weeks for the magazine to finally arrive, grabbed it from the mailbox, and started flipping through the pages… and then stopped cold in his tracks in his drive way.

“The artists, clubs, night life, and of course the gorgeous women all seemed so cool” Mondo says. It was then and there he decided what he wanted to do: “I decided I wanted to become the Art Director of the very magazine in my hands.”

Watching television later that evening, Mondo recalls an advertisement pop on the screen“Art College, in Long Beach” He looked over at his dresser where the magazine was, and thought

to himself “That’s it… that’s where I’m going to learn to make magazines.” Mondo called the art college and enrolled the very next morning. Every day for the next two years, he carried that first issue of OYE Magazine with him, telling his instructors “Teach me how to make this entire magazine.” Mondo graduated with top honors, and interned for OYE. Then, one week after graduation, the owner called- “Mondo, I just fired my art director, and I’m offering you the job.”

From there his journey began; he continued as an art director, freelance creative director, and applied everything he learned to successfully lead dozens of magazines, most notably, Lowrider Magazine and DUB Magazine,

and most recently, Cannabis Talk Magazine.

So, it’s safe to say, when it comes to the publishing game, he’s got some serious experience behind him. His passion for firearms, his strong network and experience lead to creating CALGUNR Magazine and 2A Fest. “We are the hot new kid on the block” Mondo says. “We are on a mission to help educate and help new gun owners with their journey into exercising their 2A rights. All the while making guns cool and turning the 2A Fest brand into a must attend event from Los Angeles, Miami and other states. Check out the QR Code to see the hottest new firearms event in the country!

When Jason King Pit Williams first got the opportunity to work as an Auto Engineer for Cannabis Talk 101 he was excited, and did all types of research learning about the benefits of cannabis. He spoke highly about those he met and worked with daily. He would often say “Mama you should try this, it will help with yours and dad’s pain, and it’s much better than those prescription medications you’re taking.” He took the time to explain the benefits of using the oils, creams and edibles and gave me information to read about their benefits. He loved what he was doing, and enjoyed going to work daily. I was

amazed listening to him speak about the business. He was well educated in the information he shared. You could feel his passion, and there was no doubt he truly believed in what he was doing. Jason enjoyed traveling with Cannabis Talk 101 he would often call me and say “Mama I’m going… (here or there).” It didn’t matter how near or far, he just wanted to do the best he could, setting up for the next show. Jason was a loving Son, loyal brother and trusting friend. He was loved by all who knew him. His life ended much too early, but if you ever crossed his path you will forever remember his hugs, smiles and contagious laugh.
