Support Group for Children SARATOGA SPRINGS – The Community Hospice of Saratoga will offer a six-week support group for children who have experienced the death of someone significant in their lives, including a parent, grandparent, sibling or friend. Children meet in age-specific groups, and share thoughts & feelings through art, music, games and discussion. A Parent Educational Support Group is offered concurrently. It is free of charge and open to the community. The group will be held at The Community Hospice of Saratoga, 179 Lawrence St., Saratoga Springs. It will begin Tuesday, April 9 and run for 6 weeks. Parent Information Meetings GLENS FALLS – Race to the Top Network Team Facilitators with the Washington-Saratoga-Warren-Hamilton-Essex BOCES will hold an information session for parents/guardians regarding the curriculum changes associated with the implementation of the Common Core Learning Standards. Walking the Cross WATERFORD – Parishioners from several Waterford churches will share in the living of Christ’s Walk of the Cross on Good Friday, March 29. Participants from Grace Church Episcopal, United Methodist Church and Wesleyan Church will begin their walk following the noon service at Grace Church, 34 Third St. Walkers will take turns carrying a large wooden cross as they others carry large nails symbolic of Christ’s crucifixion. They will walk up Broad Street and stop near St. Mary’s Church. Walkers will continue over a bridge, and stop for a meditation at Waterford cemetery.

They will continue to their final destination at Wesleyan Church. Meditations will focus on the last words spoken by Christ on the cross. Everyone is welcome.

The Great Calamity: The Flood of 1913 SARATOGA COUNTY – The Saratoga County Historical Society today announced a program for The Great Calamity: The Flood of 1913. It will take place on March 28 at 7pm. Discover how one of the nation’s worst floods interrupted life in and around Saratoga County. Through photographs, newspaper articles and personal accounts, Corinth Historian Rachel Clothier will explain how this natural disaster destroyed local landmarks and created permanent changes in the area. Capital Region Cooperative Extensions Launches New Website WARRENSBURB – Cornell Cooperative Extension associations of the Capital Region announces the creation of a new website http://ccecapitalregion.org.

The purpose of this site is to inform residents of new educational opportunities and to rediscover established programs that go beyond individual county boarders. Through the launch of this new website the Capital Region Cooperative Extensions multi-county sharing of programs, educator exchanges, and regional training programs based on Cornell University researched knowledge maximizes opportunities for our local communities. This website connects you to programs that range from agriculture and farm resources, horticulture and landscape programs, 4-H youth development, nutrition and healthy family initiatives, and economic vitality. Children Celebrate Random Acts of Kindness Week BALLSTON SPA – Brookside, home of the Saratoga County Historical Society, announced today that local children completed a craft activity celebrating Random Acts of Kindness Week. Partnering with the Ballston Area Community Center and the Domestic Violence and Rape Crisis Center, Brookside helped BACC children create 56 origami swans that will be distributed to The Saratoga County Domestic Violence Safe House, The Vet House, and The Guardian House in Ballston Spa. This activity was inspired by Random Acts of Kindness Week, where people are encouraged to do good deeds “randomly.” Random Acts of Kindness Week occurs annually. Also celebrating Random Acts of Kindness Week, the DVRC recently worked with BACC children to create a Kindness Quilt. The project was inspired by the book, “The Kindness Quilt,” by Nancy Elizabeth Wallace. Over 40 children in grades K through 7th participated in the project. The Kindness Quilt is on display at Brookside Museum, accompanying the museum’s exhibition on quilts called The Threads of Time. (P)

Bulletin Board 2013 Fair Theme and Design Contest SCHAGHTICOKE – The Schaghticoke Fair is very excited to announce the 2013 fair theme as “Who’s Your Super Hero?” This theme was chosen to represent the many different kinds of people that are super heroes every day. The fair will be introducing “Who’s Your Super Hero?” into the buildings, exhibits, fair entries, and contests. In addition to “Super Hero”, the fair will be initiating for the first time a food drive. Building on the theme, “Souper” the contest design entries can incorporate this spelling and or design elements.

We want the students to have fun with the idea and we are looking for some creative input. The contest is open to all currently enrolled high school students throughout Rensselaer County. School’s theatre troupe, will hold its spring musical, Bye Bye Birdie, on Friday, March 22 and Saturday, March 23. Both performances will be held at 7pm in the High School auditorium at 42 Merritt Road in South Glens Falls. Bye Bye Birdie is a Tony Award-winning satire of 1950s American culture and chronicles Conrad Birdie – a dead ringer for Elvis Presley – and his effect on teenagers in fictional Sweet Apple, Ohio. The production features several well-known songs, including “Put on a Happy Face” and “Kids!” Stage 42, also known as AKT Drama Club, is one of Saratoga County’s premier school theatre groups. Since their re-inception in 1997, they have performed such major works as The Sound of Music, Grease, and The Wizard of Oz. Mass will be held at 7pm at St. Mary’s Crescent. Good Friday shows religious observance at the Route 9 location in Round Lake with parishioners at 8am morning prayer, Rosary at noon, 3pm Stations of the Cross and at 7pm a remembrance of the Passion in the church. Easter will be celebrated at the 8pm.

This will direct you to the online tax service where you can file. Latest Archaeological Findings at Schoharie Crossing

CLIFTON PARK – Tricia Shaw will provide an update on the ongoing archaeological findings at Schoharie Crossing at the Clifton Park-Halfmoon Public Library on Friday, March 29. She will provide the most recent research on the history of Ft. Hunter and Queen Anne’s Chapel as more evidence has been uncovered this year since the flooding after hurricane Irene. Special Needs Resource Fair at Library CLIFTON PARK – The Clifton Park-Halfmoon Public Library will host a Special Needs Resource Fair on Sunday, April 14 from 1-4pm. The fair will bring together local education, service, recreational and health organizations that provide information, resources or services to children with special needs and their families. This is a family event where parents/caregivers and children can explore different resources together. The Junior Friends of the Clifton Park-Halfmoon Public Library is offering activities and free babysitting to the younger participants. Monthly Indoor Craft/Flea Market SARATOGA – Come and shop at our monthly Indoor Craft and Flea Market on Sunday, March 24 from 11am-3:30pm at the Saratoga Wilton Elks Club; Rt. 9 Maple Avenue in Saratoga. Over 40 vendor tables with a variety of items from jewelry, books, craft supplies, wood designs, photos, memorabilia, clothing, household items, and, eggs, honey, baked goodies, and gift ideas. The sale is opened to the public and admission is free. All money from the table rentals goes to support the Auxiliary‘s Community Services.
