Poetry Songs and History Songs Join us at the Troy Public Library on Monday, August 20th, at 5:30 pm for an evening of free, live music. Local folk and blues musicians, Cosby Gibson and Tom Staudle, will be giving a lively and engaging perfor-mance that combines music and history. The performance features words of famous poets put to original music by Tom Staudle. The History Song series portrays the life of the American Settlers during the Revolution through original songs by Cosby Gibson. Admission is free and donations will be gratefully accepted. We are knitting and crocheting scarves for them to help keep them warm this coming winter. We are asking for donations of yarn or funds to purchase the yarn. Yarn needs to be heavy (no wool) and dark colors; black, navy, deep green, brown, or camouflage. We have a specific pattern available for any of you wishing to help by making scarves. Bulletin Board annual tie-dyeing workshops at the Village Commons, John Street on Tuesday, August 14th and Thursday, August 16th. Learn the art of tie-dyeing, listen to “groovy” music from the 1960’s and enjoy home-made desserts. Open to children of all ages, these workshops will start promptly at 6pm—rain or shine—and last approximately one hour. Participants need to bring one clean white or very lightcolored T-shirt. Tie-dyeing can be messy so an apron to protect your clothes is recommended. To make certain that we have enough dye on hand, reservations are requested. Commemoration at Bennington Battlefield Bennington Battlefield State Historic Site, located on Route 67 in New York, will host a commemoration to mark the 241st Anniversary of the Battle of Bennington on Thursday, August 16, at 7:00 PM. Representatives from the 2nd Continental Artillery Regiment, the Battle Monument in Vermont, as well as SAR and DAR chapters will help to mark the occasion. Historical accounts will be shared before a wreath laying concluding with an artillery salute. Local students participating in the Hoosick Falls Summer History Institute will also participate. Beginning at 5:30 PM, visitors are welcome to tour the students’ encampment on the hilltop. The program is free and open to the public. Emergency Need Remains; Critical Call for Type O Blood Donors to Donate Now Thousands of people have responded to the emergency call for blood and platelet donations issued by the American Red Cross in early July.
