Bulletin Board DEFENSIVE DRIVING CLASSES OFFERED

Don’s Drivers Training and Eagle Mills Driver Safety Education are proud to offer NTSI’s 6-hour Defensive Driving Course, Traffic Survival Workshop. This class is NYS-DMV approved and will reduce your auto insurance by 10% off collision, liability and no-fault for 3 years and subtract up to 4 points from your driver’s license. Learn the fun way in presentation format with NTSI Master Instructors Don Roy and Michele Krill. We will be holding the following classes at the Brunswick Grange Hall, Corner of Routes 7 & 142 (behind Stewarts) in Troy as follows: June 8, July 13, August 10, September 14, October 12, and November 9. Class is on Saturday from 9-3:30, and costs $40 per person. Doors open at 8:45 AM for registration. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Brunswick Grange Hall. DISCOVER SORRENTO THIS NOVEMBER

The Sand Lake Town Library is pleased to announce a November 1-8 trip to Sorrento, Italy, which overlooks the most beautiful bays of the Amalfi Coast. For just $2,127 per person sharing (inclusive of air, land, departure taxes, and fuel surcharges), you’ll enjoy six nights at a first-class hotel, a guided walking tour of Sorrento with limoncello tasting, a welcome dinner with wine, daily breakfast, and an authentic farewell dinner with wine. Optional side trips include the Amalfi Coast with Positano, Amalfi, and Ravello; the Isle of Capri; Pompei and Naples; and a lemon farm tour where you can sample authentic limoncello and mozzarella. A deposit of $300 (plus insurance, if desired) reserves your spot, with an additional deposit of $1,200 due by July 22. Final payment is required August 21. Trip cost includes a $50 donation to the Sand Lake Town Library. ST. HENRY’S CHURCH SPONSORING (2) FALL SHOPPING TRIPS

St. Henry’s Church is sponsoring (2) Fall Shopping Trips and they are “open to the public”. The first trip is a day of shopping at Yankee Candle in S. Deerfield, MA, the Holyoke Mall & Lee Outlets on Saturday, September 28th. Cost is $39. For reservation and details, please contact Lisa at 573-7098. The second trip is an overnight trip to Reading, PA on Sunday, October 13th, and Monday, October 14th, to shop at the American Candle, Vanity Fair & JCP Outlets. Cost is $128 or $130. 14th ANNUAL HIDDEN GARDEN TOUR

14th Annual Hidden Garden Tour, sponsored by The Friends of Prospect Park will be held on Thursday, May 23, 2013, from 4 to 7 pm, rain or shine. This is a self-guided walking tour, featuring gardens in the Historic Sage, Washington Park, and adjoining neighborhoods in downtown Troy. $10 admission at the check-in table; all proceeds benefit ongoing projects in Prospect Park. Parking & Check-in is at the Russell Sage parking lot, at the corner of First and Division Streets, Troy. New for 2013! Present your map for free refreshments and artist’s reception, 4-7 pm, at Carmen’s Café (corner of Adams and First Streets). And come back for a buffet dinner benefit for the Friends of Prospect Park Hidden Garden Tour, 5:30 to 8:30 pm at Carmen’s. $25 with reservations; $30 walk-in. MURDER MYSTERY DINNER THEATER “MURDER IN POESTENKILL”

The Poestenkill Christian Church will host a Murder Mystery Dinner Theater on Saturday, June 22. “Murder in Poestenkill” written by Ron LeVan and Kathryn Capalbo will be performed by the Highlight Acting Troupe. Come and help solve the mystery of who murdered Horace Serley, the bank president. Was it his wife, his son, a long time friend or a bank employee? You can ask questions of the suspects and help the detectives discover who the murderer is. The dinner will be an Italian Buffet, and the cost is $15 for the dinner and show. Dinner will be served at 6 pm and the show will start at 7 pm. For reservations call Joyce at 283-4728. Reservations are due by June 15th, and payment is required in advance. PROGRESSIVE WORSHIP SERVICE

An evening worship service celebrating the progressive spiritual traditions is being held at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, located at 1583 Carney Road, Castleton, Sunday evenings, 7:00 – 7:45 pm. We will journey through the seasons of the year and the seasons of life, open to an evolving spiritually-creative culture. SLCA PRESENTS FINAL WEEKEND OF “A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM”

Sand Lake Center for the Arts-Circle Theatre Players presents Shakespeare’s classic comedy, “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”. This is the most popular of Shakespeare’s plays. Perhaps because of the four stories, interweaving and colliding, each in its own palette, mode and original music. Each story has its own live musician. Playing musical instruments are CarolLynn Langley on mountain dulcimer and fanciful percussion for the Fairies, Janine Budesheim on violin fiddle for the Lovers and cello for the Mechanicals, Robyn Sheldon and Jane Minotti on trumpets. The production, directed by Barbara Leavell Smith, runs through this final weekend with performances on May 16, 17, 18 at 8 pm and Sunday, May 19 at 2:30 pm. Tickets are $16, under 18 $10, and reservations can be made at 518-674-2007 or www.slca-ctp.org. The SLCA is located at 2880 NY 43, Averill Park, NY. There is plenty of free parking.

LADIES’ BUS TRIP TO BOLDT CASTLE AND SENECA LAKE WINE TASTING

On September 28, Forever Young Hair Designs will sponsor a Ladies’ Bus Trip to Alexandria Bay that will visit the Boldt Castle and continue to Seneca Lake for wine tasting. The cost is $400 per person, all inclusive (based on double occupancy). It includes transportation, two nights lodging, meals, boat ride, castle admission, wine tasting, taxes and gratuities. NYS DEFENSIVE DRIVING CLASS

On Saturday, May 18th, 2013, from 9AM to 3PM there will be a New York State approved Defensive Driving Class to Benefit the Boy’s & Girls Club of Southern Rensselaer County. Save 10% on your base auto insurance for the next three years & be eligible to receive up to 4 points off your driving record according to New York State Department of Motor Vehicle guidelines.
