The Sand Lake Town Library is pleased to announce a November 1-8 trip to Sorrento, Italy, which overlooks the most beautiful bays of the Amalfi Coast. For just $2,127 per person sharing (inclusive of air, land, departure taxes, and fuel surcharges), you’ll enjoy six nights at a first-class hotel, a guided walking tour of Sorrento with limoncello tasting, a welcome dinner with wine, daily breakfast, and an authentic farewell dinner with wine. SLCA HOLDS “BEADED JEWELRY WORKSHOP” with ANN WHITNEY

Sand Lake Center for the Arts holds its next Sundays at the Center Workshop - May 5 at 1:30 pm – “Beaded Jewelry Workshop” with Ann Whitney. Learn techniques for making a professional piece of beaded jewelry with your own design. Make a beaded necklace, or bracelet. Clasps, needles and thread will be supplied with an $8 materials fee. You can either buy beads at cost from the workshop instructor, or bring your own beads: old jewelry, things you never wear like Auntie Maud’s necklace she left you; and you will be able to create something new! EGCSD TO HOLD 6-HOUR INS./POINT RED. & 5-HOUR PRE-LICENSING CLASSES

The East Greenbush Central School District Continuing Education Program announces its next Five Hour Pre-Licensing Course. This course is required before an appointment for a road test may be scheduled. SLCA/CIRCLE THEATRE PLAYERS PRESENT “A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM”

Sand Lake Center for the Arts-Circle Theatre Players presents Shakespeare’s classic comedy, “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”. This is the most popular of Shakespeare’s plays. Perhaps because of the four stories, interweaving and colliding, each in its own palette, mode and original music. Each story has its own live musician--CarolLynn Langley on mountain dulcimer and fanciful percussion for the Fairies; Janine Budesheim on violin and fiddle for the lovers and Brian Switzer on cello for the mechanicals. The production, directed by Barbara Leavell Smith, opens May 10 and continues May 11, 12, 16, 17, 18 at 8 pm; and Sunday, May 12 and 19 at 2:30 pm. ST. HENRY’S CHURCH SPONSORING (2) FALL SHOPPING TRIPS

St. Henry’s Church is sponsoring (2) Fall Shopping Trips and they are “open to the public”. The first trip is a day of shopping at Yankee Candle in S. WILD EDIBLE PLANTS PROGRAM

A Wild Edible Plant Program will be held on Sunday, May 12th, from 10 am until 4 pm at the Dyken Pond Environmental Education Center. Learn plant identification, foraging techniques and how to prepare many delicious native wild edible plants. This spring program will focus on seasonal availability of shoots and greens. If you’re a complete novice with wild plants or an experienced forager, you will gain something from this class. Fee is $15 per person; $12 members. HEALING THROUGH JESUS

On Sunday, May 5, 2013, the Sixth Sunday of Easter, Communion will be celebrated at the Nassau and Stuyvesant Reformed Churches. The service in Worship will engage in the reality that God, in Jesus Christ, reaches out to us, often in terms of our own need and healing us of our ills. In the sermon titled, “Healing Through Jesus,” the Reverend Edward L. Van Kampen will point to Jesus walking by a healing pool, stopping, and delivering a man of his lifetime illness. “TRIBUTE TO MOTHERS DAY” CONCERT

For those of you who were/are fans of Elvis Presley, come to the Rensselaer County, Rensselaer Senior Center for our “Tribute to Mothers Day” concert featuring Donny “Elvis” Romines on Thursday, May 30th, sponsored by CDPHP. ST. JUDE THE APOSTLE CATHOLIC COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARDS DINNER

The 6th Annual St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Community Service Award will be presented to Michael Mangione, John Signorelli and Michelle Wyanski on May 6, 2013. Each year the award is given to those individuals who have provided outstanding support of Catholic Education in general and for particular dedication and service to St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church and School. FREE COMMUNITY DINNERS

The month of May brings a close to the free community dinners for this year that the First Reformed Church in Wynantskill provides to the community. The dinners consist of pasta with either plain or meat sauce, salad, rolls, beverages and homemade desserts. The dates for the 2 weeks that the dinner will be served in May are the 7th and the 14th. The Castleton CROP (Communities Responding to Overcome Poverty) Walk for 2013 will take place on Sunday, May 5th, at 1:00 p.m. This 4.6 mile walk will raise funds that go to Church World Service to help those in poverty. The Sand Lake Town Beach will open on Wednesday, June 26, 2013. The Town of Sand Lake will be sponsoring swimming lessons at the Town Beach on Reichards Lake. My son Isaiah was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes in November 2012, since he has been diagnosed he has learned many of things , how to prick his fingers, test his sugars, inject himself with insulin, how to change and insulin pump, what it’s like to feel sick from lows and nervous from highs. He has also learned that he can be an advocate for other children, especially those younger than him. He has taken this disease and really made a negative into a positive. He has currently been named one of the 13 Kids Who Care in the Capital Area, JDRF Youth Ambassador for the NENY Chapter, Poster Child for Price Choppers sneaker campaign and he created Team Isaiah to raise money for the 2013 Walk To Cure. He is a great kid and wonderful advocate for the JDRF.

This is a great time of year to look for spring migrant birds at the Dyken Pond Environmental Education Center. Join us on an early morning bird walk on Saturday, May 4th, at 8 am. We will be looking for a variety of warblers, vireos, thrushes, and such favorites as black-throated blue warbler, scarlet tanager, eastern bluebird and baltimore oriole. May 21 – APHS Music Department Concert and Reception, Annual Chicken BBQ. This coincides with the budget vote. May 24/25 – NYSSMA Instrumental Majors hosted at APHS. Various school ensembles (bands and orchestras) will travel to APHS to perform for adjudication. May 31 – APHS Arts Gala - 6pm.
