SARATOGA COUNTY – The League of Women Voters of Saratoga County has been selected as a recipient of a grant from the Alfred Z. Solomon Charitable Trust. 2013 Shenendehowa Rotary Scholarship CLIFTON PARK – Shenendehowa Rotary is accepting applications for a $500 Scholarship that is awarded annually to a graduating senior in the Shenendehowa School District community. The scholarship will be awarded to the applicant who is judged to display the best combination of dedication to school, community, work and plans for the future. CLIFTON PARK – Members of The Chamber of Southern Saratoga’s Women In Business Committee are reaching out to the community for help with their charitable initiative, Baskets of Hope, which supports the daily needs of Domestic Violence and Rape Crisis Services of Saratoga County (DVRC). The Committee seeks donations of women’s personal care items such as soap, shampoo, toothpaste, etc. Donated items are assembled into gift bags by committee members and given to victims entering the shelter with the hope that the recipient will take comfort in knowing there are people in their own community who care and want to help. Baskets of Hope, an ongoing program of the Women in Business Committee, is now in its seventh year thanks to the support of generous Chamber and community members. Saratoga National Historical Park Winter Activities
STILLWATER – Saratoga National Historical Park has closed its driving tour road for the winter. While the tour road closes for the season, the Park Visitor Center is open daily from 9am5pm, except for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Days. Also, the grounds of the Battlefield are open to pedestrian use during daylight hours, 7 days a week, and its hiking trails make a great place for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. Looking ahead to 2013, be sure to mark your calendar for the park’s 18th annual Frost Faire, on Saturday, January 26, from 11am-3pm. Indoor and outdoor family fun for all ages! Snow tubing “The Big Hill,” horse and carriage rides, a warming tent, nature hike, bonfires, and Revolutionary War soldier musket and cannon firing demonstrations round out a great day. Once they’ve paid for the wedding, there is little left for a honeymoon. Fortunately, you can still have a great honeymoon on a shoestring budget. Here’s how. Leave at a later date: Who says you must leave for your honeymoon immediately following your wedding reception? Enjoy your big day and postpone the honeymoon of your dreams until you can afford it. Wait six months or a year to book the trip. You’ll have more cash to spare and more time to find the best deals. Go during the off-season: Off-season prices are far cheaper than peak season prices. Schedule your honeymoon during the off-season, and to save more cash, consider going to a less popular destination. The rates will be cheaper, and there will be less people to contend with. Book way in advance: Generally, the earlier you book your honeymoon, the cheaper the rates will be. Start looking for a destination long before your expected departure date and shop around for the best deals.
