Greenwich Garage Sale Weekend

GREENWICH - The Town & Village of Greenwich traditionally holds its Town Wide Garage Sale Weekend the week before Memorial Day. This year it is May 18th & 19th as the designated weekend to bring out your treasures and your trash to vend to the public on your lawns, garages and porches. This event is not a structured sale in any way. It is self-guided and self-advertised. There are no maps and no ads, except for those placed by the individuals selling items. Once dates are designated it takes on a “life of its own and runs itself”. So get out there and buy or sell and enjoy the weekend. Mechanicville

NEW WORK & REPAIRS

Town of Malta Armed Forces Day Parade MALTA - On Saturday, May 18 at 10:00 am the Town of Malta is holding an Armed Forces Day parade to pay tribute to generations of service members, but especially to welcome home members of the latest generation of veterans – those who served in America’s Global War on Terror. Please spread the word to have neighbors, families and friends join us along Route 9 between Bayberry Drive and Blacksmith Square to help us pay a strong and worthy tribute to the men and women in our active military, National and State Guard and our veterans. There is plenty of space along the route to stake out a spot to cheer and publicly welcome home these men and women. Signs and Flags are more than welcome – they are encouraged.

SARATOGA SPRINGS - Saturday, June 8, 2 - 5 PM. Our Second Annual USO Show is almost here, and this year we are celebrating with a theme of the Vietnam Era. Step back in time as we transform the New York State Military Museum into a live USO Armed Forces Radio Network broadcast, stationed in Vietnam. Local reenactor and historian Gary Ferris will be our radio host for the evening, entertaining the crowd with monologues and routines that are reminiscent of Bob Hope’s USO Shows. The Manhattan Dolls will return this year to entertain the crowd with your favorite songs of the Vietnam Era. They will have you singing, dancing, and having lots of fun. And there will be delicious refreshments similar to those found in USO cantinas. Tickets for the USO Show are on sale now and can be purchased on our website, at the museum gift shop, and at the door. NYS Military Museum, 61 Lake Avenue, Saratoga Springs. Tickets $30 advance, $35 at door, $25 for active military. www.friendsofthenysmilitarymuseum.com

Shining Light on Top 5 Myths About Solar Energy (NewsUSA) - Across the U.S., home solar installations are on the rise. In 2012, homeowners installed enough residential solar panels to power the equivalent of almost 24,000 homes. Despite its growing popularity, solar technology remains unfamiliar to many Americans. As renewable energy becomes a mainstay topic for the nation’s partisan political debates, consumers may struggle to separate the facts about solar energy from common misconceptions. Here are the realities behind five common solar myths: Myth 1: Solar is a new, unproven technology. Solar technology roots reach as far back as 1885, when Charles Fritts built the first solar cell using selenium. In 1954, researchers at Bell Labs harnessed the photoelectric effect on silicon, setting

the course for modern solar technology. Since then, solar has powered space exploration, oil derricks, cellular networks and grid-tied businesses and homes. In particular, SolarWorld, the longest-standing U.S. solar producer, has been manufacturing solar panels since 1975. “We’ve been in business for more than 35 years, and we’ve never had a product recall,” said Kevin Kilkelly, president of SolarWorld Americas. Myth 2: Solar only works in warm climates. While sunny states like California lead the U.S. in solar deployment, northern residents still have much to gain from installing residential solar panels. Just as people don’t require full sunshine to see, solar panels don’t require full sunshine to produce electricity. Germany, the country with the most installed solar capacity worldwide, counts on solar irradiation comparable to Seattle’s. Myth 3: All solar panels are created equal. Consumers should be aware that differences in quality and workmanship can curb the amount of energy produced. Be wary of solar panels manufactured in poorly regulated factories with questionable quality-control, labor and environmental practices. Instead, look for home solar panels from a reputable manufacturer, which can guarantee the highest power production and stand behind a 25year warranty. Myth 4: Solar panels are unattractive. mand for attractive installations, a few companies now offer true-black solar panels, designed to blend well with residential rooftops. The panels are made from the most powerful solar cells available, meaning a homeowner can produce more electricity with fewer panels.

Myth 5: Solar is too expensive. Thanks to technological advances and attractive rebates, residential solar systems are more affordable than ever. In many parts of the U.S., homeowners can use financing programs to reduce upfront costs and spread payment over 20 or more years. The Benefits of Pruning Trees and Shrubs Pruning trees and shrubs is necessary to ensure they maintain their health and vigor. Trees and shrubs should be inspected annually to determine if they need to be pruned. Mature trees typically do not need to be pruned as frequently as young trees, which need pruning to establish branch structure. Trees and shrubs that go years without pruning can become overgrown and weak. In s e addition to promoting tree and shrub health, pruning pays a host of other dividends.

Managing Difficult Yard Situations Many homeowners aim for a picture perfect lawn complete with rolling acres of soft, green grass. But Mother Nature may have other things in mind, providing homeowners with less-than-stellar growing conditions for their lawns, plants and other foliage. Frustration can mount when a yard is muddy, is especially shady or has soil that doesn’t seem to grow a thing. In such instances, homeowners may have to go the extra mile to get the yard they desire. Irrigation issues Improper drainage or low-lying areas in a yard may contribute to a muddy mess. Soil that is inhospitable for grass also may end up causing muddy patches because the grass simply does not grow. In some cases, remedying a muddy yard is easy and inexpensive. Some homeowners find that tilling the soil and amending it with a fiber mulch helps to absorb extra water and make the conditions better for lawn seeds to sprout. This also helps to aerate compacted soil that can hinder grass growth. Adding soil fill also may help to level low-lying areas that can be puddling. Some homeowners find that they need to do a little more work and spend some more money to fix irrigation issues. Installing a draining system or having the property sloped to Shady situations may impede grass draw water away can sometimes be done by a homeowner growth in a yard.

but is often best left to a professional. You may need to dig trenches, and the property may need to be regraded to make a difference. Sandy soil

Grass and other plants may not grow well with sandy or clay soil. Again, amending the soil is one way to remedy the problem. Although it will take some work at the outset, amending the soil can improve conditions and reduce how much maintenance the lawn needs. Digging down several inches and adding nutrient-rich filler soil will help create conditions that are better for growing. Those who are interested in planting vegetables could opt for raised garden beds above the challenging soil. Shade Sometimes a yard is problematic because of the amount of sunshine it receives. Too much sunshine can scald certain grasses, while inadequate sunshine may result in bare patches where grass won’t grow. If cost is no object, removing or planting trees to establish better growing conditions could be an option. However, today there are many grass blends that are tailored toward specific sunlight scenarios. Homeowners may find that low-light blends will grow better in shady areas.

For those who are finding no luck with grass blends, it may just be necessary to think creatively. Plant shade-loving plants, such as ferns or ground cover, where the grass won’t take. Design the landscape so it looks intentional. Flagstone and slate placed in certain areas also may mask temperamental growing areas. There are different options for managing various situations in the yard that can make growing lawn or other plants challenging. If projects are difficult, it could be smart to call in a professional.

Caring for a Freshly Sodded Lawn

Sod, sometimes called turf, can quickly turn a barren landscape into a rich, thick carpet of green. Homeowners hoping to revive their lawns commonly turn to sod as the quickest means to do just that. However, once the sod has been laid down, few homeowners may know how to keep it looking its best. Deck Piers

Sod is real grass that is grown on special farms. It is generally grown locally to avoid long transport times that could dry out the product. Sod is typically sold in squares or rolls of grass that come with the roots and soil already attached. There may be some sort of thin backing material on the sod to keep the grass blades together. Many homeowners turn to sod when growing lawn from seed becomes problematic or too time-consuming. Seeds can be blown around in the wind or be eaten by birds and other animals before they have a chance to germinate.

Sodding a lawn is a major investment, costing as much as $1 per two-foot square. Depending on the size of your lawn, this can be a costly job even before adding the cost of additional supplies, such as soil, fertilizer and tilling equipment. Many homeowners who install sod want to ensure their investment lasts. Here are the main ways to care for and protect sod until it is fully established.

* Water the sod every other day unless the weather has been very warm. After four weeks you can generally go up to five days without watering as long as you transition slowly. The sod will change colors if it is not getting enough water. Never let the lawn turn yellow, otherwise you may have to cut out dead spots and re-sod. * Wait two to four weeks before mowing the sod. Keep the lawn height to around two inches to ensure that it won’t scald in the sun.

* After two months of established sod growth, aerate the sod to keep the soil from being too compact and to enable oxygen and nutrients to get into the soil. * Keep children and pets off of the sod while it is establishing itself. * Inspect the sod for pests, which may include insects or problems like fungi or weeds. Treat accordingly with products designed to remove pests.

* It is important to establish a watering schedule to keep the sod moist. Water the sod to a depth of one inch every other day for the first three weeks to enable the roots to securely establish themselves in the soil.

Using sod to establish a lush lawn is a fast, albeit more expensive option to sowing seeds. After a few weeks the lawn will be thick and secure.

Creating More Usable Space in Your Home (MS) -- Smarter use of existing space can transform a home into a more pleasant living area. Combining smaller rooms or areas, dividing larger rooms, finishing an attic or basement, converting one room into a year-round “indoor porch” -- all are possible projects to improve your home’s comfort level and value. And Woodcraft has a few suggestions about products that will help you work smarter and easier on your “space additions.” Working Safely “When working indoors, it is important to take steps to keep the air free of dust and debris for the health and safety of those breathing it,” Woodcraft product manager Peter Collins said. Collins suggests two products that will help manage air quality: * Oneida’s 5-Gallon Molded Dust Deputy Kit works with a shop vacuum to capture 99 percent of the dust. * The Shop-Vac® Portable Air Cleaner keeps fine airborne dust from migrating all through the house when projects are underway. Transforming Your Spaces * For framing in a basement or attic space, the Kreg Jig® HD will speed up this otherwise complex and time-consuming project. The jig allows you to drill 25 percent larger holes to accept

adapt to its presence.

Creating a beautiful and bountiful garden is a popular pastime for people all across the country. It is important to keep in mind that aesthetically appealing plants may be appetizing to area wildlife, including deer. Those who do not want their gardens to turn into all-you-can-eat buffets for deer, rabbits and other wild animals can take a more proactive approach to gardening.

Motion-activated devices may not work, nor the presence of pets. Predator urine is typically an effective way at keeping deer at bay. Bottled coyote urine can be quite effective, although human urine may work as well. Reapplying the product weekly around the plants is a good idea.

Deer are opportunists who will no doubt see your garden as a salad bar ripe with all of their favorite foods. As housing developments continue to encroach on the natural habitats of deer and other animals, these animals are becoming more visible. Deer may not be able to forage for food effectively in their smaller, natural surroundings, or they may become accustomed to the “easy pickings” they find in neighborhood yards. Either way, you may encounter a deer in or around your area.

There are many organic or chemically-based products on the market that deer may find offensive to the taste or smell.

Keeping deer at bay involves some work and maintenance on the part of a homeowner. There are safe and humane methods to repelling deer, or at least blocking access to the plants worth protecting. Here are the main ways to deer-proof a garden. Fence It Fences are one way to deter deer from entering a yard and dining on your garden. Keep in mind that deer can jump fences that are quite tall, but they have to be especially motivated to jump an eight-foot-tall fence. Still, they tend to be weary about scaling a fence when they cannot see what is on the other side. Therefore, if you are fencing out deer, choose a fence that camouflages the garden well and completely encloses the area to be protected. If you do not want the fence to be solid, consider putting stakes or thorny plants within the garden so that the deer will hesitate to jump into the garden.

Repel the Deer

Hot pepper, sulfur and eggs or even the use of soapy water have been successful in certain instances. The use of blood meal or even human hair around the garden may repel the deer and keep them on a different foraging path. However, remember that any deer that is very hungry may ignore unpleasant tastes or smells for a quick bite. Change Plants If other food sources are available, there are some species of plants and trees that deer will avoid. Filling your garden with these plants can help you maintain a beautiful, albeit untasty, environment for deer.

When planting annuals, select among:* Alyssum * Begonias * Calendula * Celosia * Dianthus * Foxglove * Geraniums * Parsley * Poppy * Snapdragons

In terms of perennials, plant these items once, and deer could stay away: * Ageratum * Anemone * Astibe * Bearded iris * Catmint * Honeysuckle * Lantana * Monkshood * Rock rose * Rosemary * Soapwort * Wisteria

Scare Them

Plant these herbs alongside flowers for even more protection: * Chives * Eucalyptus * Garlic * Mint * Thyme * Wintergreen

Deer are naturally skittish around people, but over time they can become quite complacent around human beings. Once a deer decides that something will not present a threat, the deer can

Gardeners who use a combination of methods to keep deer out of their yards and gardens may have a higher success rate at deterring these animals.

Increase Storage Possibilities

What homeowner has not lamented that they have many more belongings than they have storage space? In some homes, particularly in older homes, closet space and other areas to store items may be lacking. Apartment dwellers often find they’re lacking in storage space as well. But savvy homeowners can find both permanent and temporary solutions to their home storage problems. One of the easiest ways to create storage space is to simply remove some belongings from the residence. Go through closets around the house and pick through the attic and/or garage to see if there are any items that can be discarded or donated. Items that are broken can be discarded, while those things that still have utility can be donated or sold. The next step is to maximize the space of your existing closets. Many closets are equipped with just a shelf and a clothing rack, greatly limiting the storage potential. Investing in a closet organization system is one way to transform a poorly utilized space. These systems can be purchased, often inexpensively, from a home improvement center. Compiled of modular racks and shelving, the positioning can be customized depending on the size of the closet. Oftentimes, the addition of shelving or another rack for hanging clothes can solve some storage issues. These closet systems also are ideal for renters because they can be installed with minimal damage and be removed when a lease expires. Homeowners may have to think vertically to solve storage solutions. Wall space may be abundant in a home where closets are not. Therefore, shelving and cabinets can be places to keep items neatly off the floor. A series of shelves can be installed next to a washing machine to keep laundry supplies organized. In children’s rooms, build bookcases the height of the room so children can store frequently used reading material and toys on the lower levels, and adults can put collectibles and mementos near the top. Hang hooks to hold hats and robes. Whenever possible, look to store items on the Messy closets and clutter elsewhere in the home may walls where they will keep clutter off the floor. be indicative of a storage deficit. But there are ways Storage can even be created in the bathroom, to easily increase storage space

where the space over the toilet can be used to hang a cabinet to store hand towels and other toiletries if the space under the sink has already been claimed.

Many apartment dwellers recognize the advantage of having items that serve double-duty in their living spaces. For example, a convertible sofa can be used for sitting and then turn into a bed for overnight guests. Ottomans that have a storage compartment can house anything from throw blankets to magazines. An armoire may house the television but also have a pull-out shelf that can hold a laptop computer. In the kitchen, move food items out of cabinetry and into a “pantry” you create elsewhere in the house, such as a laundry room or garage. This frees up more room for pots and pans. Cabinets that have pull-out shelving help maximize tight recesses of cabinets and keep things organized and in sight. For those with limited cabinets, pots and pans can be hung from a pot rack suspended in the kitchen. Even when there is a small amount of storage space, individuals can find clever ways to neatly store items.

Did You Know?

When people think of outdoor storage, they generally envision garden sheds to house their lawn and garden equipment and tools. However, if space doesn’t allow for a large shed, there is no need to fret because there are other storage possibilities. Consider a garden ottoman or bench, for example. This structure can be built from wood and then painted or covered in padded fabric. Store small items inside the ottoman, which can also serve as a table or additional seating. In addition to an ottoman, a garden tool that can keep shovels and rakes organized. Homeowners with a deck can construct lidded deck boxes to store patio cushions or any other outdoor equipment. Utilizing the space under the deck is another idea. Cover the perimeter of the bottom of the deck with lattice and install one piece on a hinge to serve as a door. Store equipment underneath and out of sight. It also will be protected from the elements.

Benefits to Hiring a Landscaping Service The desire to have a pristine, well-manicured landscape leads many homeowners to toil outdoors for hours every weekend. Hiring a professional landscaper can free up homeowners’ time and help them ensure their yards are cared for properly. One of the benefits of hiring a landscaper is the time savings. Landscapers typically have commercial-grade equipment that can dramatically reduce the time it takes to mow and perform other maintenance tasks around your property. Furthermore, some services have multiple employees working concurrently, enabling them to tackle several projects at the same time and complete them in a fraction of the time it would take a homeowner working on his or her own. Landscapers familiar with botany and landscape design understand how to properly care for plants and trees on your property, while novice green thumbers may be unaware about when to prune trees and shrubs, at what height to cut the lawn and which plants will thrive in particular locations. Such do-it-yourself maintenance may even cost more money than leaving it to a pro-

fessional.

Did You Know?

There are thousands of species of ants all over the world. Ants live in many different climates but are notably active and most abundant in warm temperatures. Chances are, at some point during the spring and summer, you will come in contact with ants in your area. Although many ants are black and red, there are a few species of ants that are light brown and even yellowish in color. Pharaoh ants and thief ants are lightcolored ants that are often mistaken for each other. Thief ants build colonies in large numbers close to other ant colonies and then use tunneling to “steal” food. Pharaoh ants are also very small and tend to make well-hidden nests, which allow them to infest a property or home quite quickly. Because both of these types of ants can become pests, you may need to hire a professional exterminator if the ants become a nuisance.

Hiring a professional landscaper is, in many instances, more economical. For a certain weekly or monthly fee, homeowners receive the benefit of professional knowledge and execution. Also, homeowners will not have the expense of purchasing the various tools and equipment necessary for lawn and garden maintenance, tools and equipment that include lawnmowers, string weeders, edgers, fertilizer, grass seed, leaf blowers, and shovels. Another benefit is the lawn will continue to be mowed whether a homeowner is home or not. During the spring and summer vacation season, it’s easy for homeowners to overlook their lawn and garden in favor of recreation and leisure activities. Without proper watering and maintenance, lawns and gardens can brown or overgrowth can occur. But hiring a landscaping service allows homeowners to rest assured that their yards will be maintained whether they’re home or not. Hiring a local landscaping service will not only benefit homeowners, but also it will benefit the local economy. Residents can feel comfortable knowing their lawn service will be available for calls when needed and will be familiar with the community. Also, local contractors may go the extra mile to earn your business recommendation. Hiring a landscaping service can be advantageous to homeowners who want to free up time and still enjoy a well-maintained landscape.

Kitchen Work Triangle The kitchen is arguably the most-used room in the house during waking hours. Having a kitchen that is laid out in an efficient manner can improve productivity and make for a more enjoyable experience. Designers often stress having an effective work triangle in the kitchen. The phrase “kitchen work triangle” started with the Building Research Council (formerly the Small Homes Council) at the University of Illinois. The idea came from studies of space usage and the search for efficient kitchen designs. What the triangle essentially means is positioning three key items of

399-9023

the kitchen for efficiency. The stove, sink and refrigerator represent the three main points of the triangle. Having these items spaced accordingly can make work easier. Having them too close together can create a cramped, ineffective room. The placement of the triangle points alone does not make a successful layout. According to the University of Missouri Extension, the triangle space should also be measured accordingly. Put 4 to 7 feet between the refrigerator and sink, 4 to 6 feet between the sink and stove and 4 to 9 feet between the stove and refrigerator, with the ideal size resulting in a work triangle where the three sides total between 15 and 22 feet.

Reading and Presentation of What We Keep: Life Stories of Maplewood Manor

BALLSTON SPA - The Saratoga County Historical Society announced that What We Keep, readings of life stories from people now living at Maplewood Manor Nursing Home, will be read here at the Brookside Museum. The event will be held Saturday, May 18, 2-3pm, and will be free and open to the public. The stories were written by author Mary Cuffe Perez of Galway from interviews with ten residents of the county run nursing home during 2012-13. The stories focus on life episodes inspired by keepsakes – whether object, photo, song or just a vivid memory. Storytellers range in age from 76 to 98 and their stories offer a one of a kind point of view on life during the last century. Many of the people whose stories are in the booklet will be in the audience for the reading, along with family members, some of whom will read their relative’s story.

May 16, 2013 R+D LANDSCAPING Spring cleanups, storm damage, trees cut or trimmed, mulching, shrubs planted or trimmed. Any other projects. 451-6021

Depending on the forecast, I consider the week before Memorial Day planting time for all the tender annual flowers and vegetables. This is the timing for the Glenville hills. Those of you “down in the valley” can probably plant now. If you go by the book, it isn’t until now that we can consider ourselves to be beyond the threat of frost. This is, of course, is based on an average of last frost dates and the way things have been going this season, Mother Natures is holding us to the rule unlike the last couple of years when we were able to get away with planting a little early. Even still, I want you to know that I’ll be proceeding with my planting of flowering annuals even before you’re reading this. While we’re all anxious to plant, it’s important to remember that the most popular vegetables grown are descendents of varieties that were discovered (or plundered, depending on your view of 16th century Spanish colonialism) in Central America. Tomatoes, squash, peppers, beans, corn and many others were staple crops in the empire of the Aztecs. While Cortez and his conquistadors had no appreciation of Aztec culture, they, along with their Jesuit partners, were “religious” about sending anything of value back to the king and queen at home. While the wealth of gold has long been spent, the horticultural treasure continues to feed and delight us. The diet of Europe before the “discovery” of the New World must have been very bland indeed. The hallmark of Italian cooking is tomato sauce yet; they didn’t cultivate tomatoes in Italy until after 1600! We associate potatoes with the Irish but there were no potatoes in Ireland until they were brought back from the New World. There WAS wheat in Europe so, as far as I can figure, they were real “meat & bread” folks until the ships returned from this side of the Atlantic. The point of all this is that many of our vegetable crops, with their Central American roots need lots of heat to perform well in our northern climate. There are many tricks gardeners use and I’ll share a couple of them. To get our tomatoes to mature and start producing sooner, we need to increase the air and soil temperatures around our transplants. You can use hotcaps that you’ll buy at the garden center or make your own from plastic water or milk jugs. To make a hotcap from a plastic jug just take a sharp knife and slice an X through the bottom of the jug. The center of the X should be in the center of the bottom of the jug. This will give you four flaps that you’ll bend outward so you can anchor the jug to the ground with rocks or long nails to keep it from blowing away. Be sure to remove the cap of the jug to allow excess heat to escape. We want to warm our transplants, not cook them. You can also cover the soil at the base of your tomatoes with a sheet of black plastic. The black plastic will warm up in the sun and trap that heat, warming the soil below. Tomatoes love warm soil. If you use tomato cages for support, you can install them as soon as you’ve planted your tomato seedlings and wrap the cage with clear plastic. The clear plastic wrapped around the tomato cage creates a little greenhouse that’ll bring the temperature up to levels that tomatoes prefer. Leave the top of the plastic-covered tomato cage open to let excess heat escape. On nights that you expect temperatures to fall below 50 degrees, cover the tops of your “mini-greenhouses” to keep the temperature up overnight. Don’t forget to uncover them in the morning or they’ll cook. When I’m running late with my planting, there’s another trick I’ll use to get seeds (like beans) to sprout in the shortest possible time. I’ll sow them in a shallow trench with soil built up on either side of the trench. Then I’ll cover the trench with my “germinating fabric” (also known as “floating row cover” or “frost fabric”). I can anchor the fabric with stones or tuck it into the soil to keep it from blowing off. The fabric will allow light and water to pass through but will trap enough heat to warm the soil, getting my seeds sprouted without cool weather delay. As soon as the seeds sprout, I’ll remove the fabric at let them enjoy the sunshine. I hope the weather cooperates and we’ll all be able to finally dig in and get the crops in. I hope I don’t hear that dreaded “F” word until October. Thanks for the read.

NY Arms Fair and Sportsman’s Expo at the Forum

LAKE GEORGE - The New Eastcoast Arms Collectors Associates, NEACA, Inc. have been organizing and promoting Gun and Militaria Shows since 1982, their longest running event being the Saratoga Springs, NY Arms Fair at the Saratoga Springs City Center. This latest NEACA endeavor is producing an Arms Fair & Sportsman’s Expo at The Forum in Lake George, NY. This is a replacement of an NEACA Arms Fair which was to take place at the SportsPlex of Halfmoon, the same weekend of May 18 & 19, but the SportsPlex owners decided they don’t want a gun show there anymore. We are very happy to be producing a show in the Adirondacks where people appreciate guns, where most people support the Second Amendment Right to Bear Arms and where most people actually know what firearms mean to keeping our freedom and safety, not just for hunting. Public hours for the show are Saturday May 18, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM and Sunday May 19, 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Regular admission is $8.00 daily and $7.00 for Seniors over 60; under 14 free with an adult, parking is free. NEACA members may preview the show from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM Friday the 17th and can also enter the show a half hour early on Saturday and Sunday, no waiting in line. NEACA membership is $50.00 with renewal at $45 per year. The Forum is easy to get to at 2200 Route 9; use Exit 21 off the Adirondack Northway. The Forum has a great snack bar and also has a restaurant and cocktail lounge on the premises. This is our first show of what we hope to run as an annual event.

* Make sure your car is in good condition underneath the hood. Your Firestone Complete Auto Care service center can carry out your vehicle's scheduled maintenance and assist you with any problems that come up in the interim.

* Make sure you can hear auditory driving cues. Listening to the radio loudly can drown out car horns, emergency sirens and bicycle bells.

* Wear comfortable attire. Before setting off, select a pair of comfortable driving shoes, and remove inhibiting layers. * Make sure the driver's seat is adjusted to a comfortable position. This is especially important if you share the car with family members. Don't forget to check your mirrors and ad$ just them if necessary!
