restaurants. Schwab said the plan would have destroyed his 30-year-old business because he would have had to turn customers away because there would be no room for cars. "The construction would have come right up to my bay doors," Schwab said. "He never offered me a dime. He wants to use my property for his infrastructure. He wanted to use the property without even asking me." In August 2018, Supreme Court Judge Ann Crowell denied Pintuff's request to excavate into the three properties, saying that there are construction alternatives. "Weighing these risks against the unwanted intrusion on ... Schwab's property and the interruption to his small business and livelihood, the grant of a license ... is denied," court papers read.

Times Union's efforts to reach Pintuff for comment were unsuccessful. His attorney, Javier Mendez, also did not return a Times Union phone call. Meanwhile, Pavilion Place, once the site of a historic livery stable for coach horses, has remained a vacant lot, a weedy hole in the heart of the city for the past year. Mayor Meg Kelly did not respond to Times Union requests for comment on the situation. City Administrator of Planning and Economic Development Bradley Birge said the city hopes the Henry Street project is "something we want to happen." However, Bonacio Construction, which is building the 16,000-square-foot, mixed-used structure, said it will resume work at the end of the month. Mandie Kozlowski, marketing and design coordinator at Bonacio, said there was nothing more she could say about the three-story project. Schwab said any delays

on Bonacio's current project are not his issue. "I've done nothing to slow down or impede the construction, except to say you can't take away my livelihood," Schwab said. "Let me run my business. I'm not interfering with the way they run their business." Schwab said he's also frustrated that he has sent two notifications to have construction fencing that he says is on his property taken down. But Bonacio crews have not removed it. He's disgusted, especially since he has had to spend thousands on legal fees on a project that is not his. "They want to act like I'm not here," Schwab said. "They want to diminish the value of my property to increase the value of their property." wliberatore@timesun ion.com - 518-454-5445 - @ wendyliberatore

“I do support rearming the monitors,” Woytowich said. “I look forward to working collaboratively with others who may agree to disagree.” Cubanski said arming the grounds monitors too is important because “seconds matter.” “Grounds monitors are already on the payroll,” Cubanski said. “Train them. It would cost $20,000 training. It’s a stop-gap measure.”

Kolligian said continued education and training for anyone with a gun on school grounds is important. Reynolds, the only incumbent, said monitors are still doing their job fulfilling their security role. She also said the school takes a comprehensive approach to the issue including a wide range of plans including SROs and preventative measures. While they didn’t agree on the gun issue, they did on many other matters including the importance of arts education, preventing vaping -- which they agreed was growing to epidemic proportions -and helping children cope with mental health issues like anxiety and depression, which is also growing among students. Lakhtakia said it’s about creating a community in which all students feel a part. “Kids need to feel a sense of ownership,” she said. “I’d love to increase the ownership kids feel, so they all feel they belong and feel positively about the teachers, their peers and their school.”
