Luzerne Music Center Presents The Red Violin Tour of North Country Schools Luzerne Music Center will present “The Red Violin Tour of North Country Schools,” on November 16 and 17, 2011. The tour will take place during the school day at the Hadley-Luzerne Central School District, Lake George School District, and Saratoga Springs City Schools, and serve students in grades four through 12. This tour will feature Elizabeth Pitcairn, President and Artistic Director of the Luzerne Music Center, in partnership with one of the world's most legendary instruments, the "Red" Mendelssohn Stradivarius of 1720. Accompanying Ms. Pitcairn on the tour will be Luzerne Music Center faculty member, pianist Cynthia Elise Tobey. Luzerne Music Center is a summer music camp and performing arts center in Lake Luzerne, NY, where Philadelphia Orchestra members perform and teach. The Center serves 180 talented and deserving music students, ages 11 to 18, every year and devotes approximately 20% of its annual budget to student scholarships. Ms. Pitcairn attended Luzerne Music Center in the summers of 1988 and 1989 and became dedicated to carrying on the tradition of excellence so that other young musicians could have the same opportunity to learn. This school tour is being presented free of charge to North Country schools in an effort to give back to the communities and their school-aged students during the Centerʼs traditional “off-season.” For further information contact:, and (518) 696-2771.

THE FAMILY OF Rosemarie Sycuro would like to express sincere and heartfelt thanks to everyone who came to our side during this difficult time. We really appreciate the help of the Hadley-Luzerne Lioness Club and the ladies of the Holy Mother and Child Parish for all the food and work involved for the reception after the memorial mass. To name names would be a tremendous task, but rest assured, we really appreciate all the cards, mass cards and well wishes. While there is a huge void in our lives right now, it is comforting to know we have so many friends. Sincerely, Joe, Nita and family

THE FAMILY OF David Woodard has been truly blessed by our friends. We wish to thank you all for your kindness to us. Thank you for the prayers, cards, food prepared with love and for money contributed to the American Diabetes Association in his memory. Very special thank you to Bob Densmore who put up with our crazy sense of humor and took care of us well (weʼre sure David was smiling). To Lane Schermerhorn who shared memories of working with David at the mill. To Norm Mosher for playing special music on guitar (for David would have liked that). To our granddaughter, Courtneyʼs wonderful words; to our niece MarieLouise (Ree) for giving us her gift as a Hospice nurse the four days he was home and beyond. For Pastor Bonnie Bates for her many, many visits to David (over a six month period) and her faithfulness and love given to David and our family, most especially for her healing words spoken at his service. Thank you all for loving him and loving us. Carlie, Mark, Dawn, Dan, their families and Davidʼs sisters & brothers "Stony Creek Fall Gathering" to be held at the Stony Creek Town Hall On Friday, November 18 at 7:00 p.m., the Stony Creek Free Library in Stony Creek, NY, is sponsoring an old-fashioned night of free entertainment. The musical will premier in Greenwich, New York, in February/March of 2012. Leading roles include Eleanor (a soprano), who ages from a teenager to adulthood; an older Eleanor, who narrates her life; a child Eleanor; Franklin Roosevelt (a bass or tenor); Lorena Hitchcock (“Hick,” an alto), the “tough cookie” journalist who becomes Eleanorʼs companion; Anna Roosevelt, Eleanorʼs daughter as an adult; John Roosevelt, Eleanorʼs son, as an adult; President Theodore Roosevelt; “Mama” Roosevelt, Franklinʼs mother; Lucy Page Mercer, Franklinʼs extra-marital love interest; and numerous other parts for young and old! The Writer/Composer of Eleanor is Greenwich resident Suzanne Cohen. In addition to performers and technical support, we are also looking for someone who would enjoy helping with costumes. This will be an exciting community project! For further information and/or to express interest in participating in the production in any way, please call Suzanne Cohen at (518)480-9071. Board President Duane Moulton said: “After a rigorous process including two separate interviews with the Board of Education and subsequent interviews with three advisory committees, the Board feels confident that both Mr. Berry and Mr. Froats have the skills and attributes to connect with our community and lead the district into thefuture.” As part of the hiring process, both finalists will present their entrance plan to the public on November 7, 2011 at 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. in the Stuart M. Townsend Middle School Large Group Instruction Room (LGI). It is expected that each presentation will last about one hour. All community members, parents and staff are invited to the presentations. The Board will conduct a final interview later that evening. According to District Superintendent James Dexter: “The HadleyLuzerne Board is confident in their decision in moving forward with the two candidates. In reaching this determination, the Board conducted multiple interviews and received feedback on both individuals from the three advisory committees. I was pleased with the professional and rigorous process that the Board put in place. Lastly, the Board and I are appreciative of the twenty individuals who composed the advisory committees from across the community. All three committees conducted their assigned tasks in a professional and thoughtful manner.” Paul Berry has been with the Galway Central School District since 2003 as Middle School Principal and the Director of Assessment, Technology, and Student Affairs. Prior to that, he was the Middle School Principal at Peru Central School District for two years, and the Assistant Principal at Peru Junior-Senior High for one year.
