ST. KATERI TEKAKWITHA POWWOW CAPITAL DISTRICT - The Metis Nation of North American and Canadian Bands is holding is annual St. Kateri Tekakwitha Powwow on July 1-4, 2017, at Our Lady of Martyrs Shrine on Noeltner Road in Auriesville, NY. We honor St Kateri at each day’s opening ceremony with the performance of the Kateri Honor Song, sung by Pat Whyland in Mohawk, followed by Grand Entry, during which we are proud to honor all veterans. The public is welcome to attend this exciting event, which includes the Aztec Dancers, native dancers, native food, many vendors, exhibition of native crafts, candy for children in the “Candy Dance”, a free public auction on Sunday about 7pm at the pavilion. Auction items include native crafts, jewelry and much more. Please come & enjoy. This year we are pleased to have the Mobile Veterans Center on powwow grounds on Monday, July 3 and Tuesday, July 4. The many services they provide are free to all eligible veterans and their families. Some of these services include: counseling, outreach and education, employment/VA benefits & referrals, and substance abuse assessment/ referral. Donations at the gate are $8/person, $6/seniors. Free admission to: Children under 5, disabled and nursing home residents. Donations collected at the gate assist with scholarships for native children; some of the proceeds are shared with the Shrine as well.

SHAKER HERITAGE SOCIETY JULY CRAFT FAIR CAPITAL DISTRCIT - Enjoy the beautiful upstate NY summer as you explore the booths of dozens of local and regional artisans on the grounds of the Shaker Heritage Society. A Family Activity Tent will offer games and activities for kids of all ages. Enjoy the sounds of live music, explore the bountifully blooming heritage herb garden, and learn about the history of the site with guided tours at 11:30 and 1:30. Fair food and pie will be available for purchase. This event helps to support local businesses and a small non-for-profit. HELP- A-DOG BBQ AND FUNDRAISER FOR THE ANIMAL PROTECTIVE FOUNDATION CAPITAL DISTRICT - Capital District Jeep Wrangler CDJW.org have teamed up with the Animal Protective Foundation (APF) in Scotia, NY to host an incredibly fun pet adoption and fundraising event to help the pets at the APF and our local communities! The “HELP A DOG BBQ” will take place at Socha Plaza in Scotia/Glenville on Sunday, July 9th from 11am-3pm. The event features a fantastic BBQ for only a $5 per person donation to the APF. Your donation includes a premium, grilled hot dog or hamburger, chips and a beverage from Primal Your Local Butcher. Delicious food options will also be available for our Vegan friends! Adoptable animals from the APF will be in attendance along with pet and jeep related vendors, valuable raffles to win, a pet photography booth, children’s activities, pet nail trims and more. The APF will also be offering an on-site $15 per pet microchipping clinic and be sure to stop by their “meet the trainer booth” to get your tough pet behavior questions
