TVHS WINS TWO NATIONAL COMMUNICATION AWARDS For the third time in as many years, Tech Valley High School has earned national recognition for its communication efforts. Later this month, the school will receive two awards from the National School Public Relations Association (NSPRA). NSPRA is honoring TVHS with an award of merit for the school’s website and an award of merit for the Tech Valley High School This Week e-news publication. The awards are the second highest recognition the association bestows on schools and school communication personnel. The enews is distributed weekly during the school year to more than 1,000 supporters, educators and parents of students at TVHS. Anyone interested in receiving future editions of the e-news should email Tech Valley High School Communications Coordinator Mike McCagg at mmccagg@techvalleyhigh.org. The awards will be officially presented in mid-July at the organization’s national conference in Chicago. McCagg, in conjunction with his colleagues at Capital Region BOCES Communications Service, produce all of Tech Valley High School’s communications products.

It’s been a while since my last report, and I’m happy to announce that things are well under the leadership of our new supervisor Al Spain. The summer season brings many exciting events to North Greenbush. The Town Beach with a new snack bar is no longer “the best kept secret” in Rensselaer County. Our summer camp has opened to rave reviews. To provide your children with an inexpensive, fun-filled summer, call the youth department @ 283-2795 – it’s not too late to register. On the sports front, we have the Valley Cats, fresh off an 11 game winning streak, in full swing. Twin Town L.L. begins all star play this week and congratulations to Classie Lassie’s 10 & under “Inferno” team that captured the ASA NY State championship. The North Greenbush Youth Committee – with a big thank you to Mike Miner and Supervisor Spain - is proud to announce our 2012 Summer Concert Series held on Sunday Evenings from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at the Gazebo behind Town Hall. Opening up the Concert Series once again are perennial favorites, The McKrells, on July 15th, bringing their unique music and humor back to our stage. On July 22nd, NYS Country Music Hall of Fame member Whitewater returns to the North Greenbush stage. The Tichy Boys make their North Greenbush debut on July 29th. Rockabilly fans have a chance to see the #1 Father-Son Rockabilly band in the country when John Tichy (former lead guitarist for Commander Cody) and his son Graham take to our stage. Do not miss your opportunity to see Flame on August 5th. A group of musicians with developmental/physical disabilities, Fame, is capturing the world’s attention. They have inspired many while touring the US / Europe, appearing on Good Morning America, and in People magazine. On August 12, Aged in the Hills returns to the North Greenbush stage. For over 30 years, they have brought their mix of Country, Cajun, and Irish music to venues throughout the Northeast. These concerts are fully funded by our sponsors: North Greenbush IDA, County Legislators Phil Danaher, Mike Cristo, Leon Fiaco, Lou Desso, Nichi’s Restaurant, Beverage Mart, Paolo Lombardi’s, Big Dipper, La Bellas, Town Justice Megan Malone, MAC Equipment, and Kokosa Oil. These events have been a tremendous success providing a safe family atmosphere where our community can join together with family and friends for fun and relaxation. Hope to see you there.
