One laser treatment in 1998 was all my husband, who had smoked for 35 years (3 packs a day), needed to stop smoking right there and then. I was amazed! He had tried to quit before and it was so stressful for all of us, I told him to please please start smoking again. After his treatment in 1998, he not only stopped, but he stopped without the awful stress that we had seen with other attempts. That is when I knew what I had to do. I decided that I had to help smokers and their families in conquering this powerful enemy. At Laser Therapy, I have helped hundreds and hundreds of people quit smoking with just one treatment. They have come from all walks of life, and have tried a plethora of different methods only to relapse to smoking once again. Many have told me about patches and pharmaceuticals they used and the troubles they had with them. There were also scores of loved ones who were affected in a negative manner because of anxiety issues and the stress that sometimes comes with quitting. I have helped those who had all but given up hope. I’ve helped those that didn’t even want to quit for themselves but only for their loved ones. I am not against any method that will help a person succeed in their quest to quit. My only question is, why not try something that has an 85% success story, that is non-evasive and has zero side effects? If, within six months of your treatment, for whatever reason, you need to or would like to come back in, you can have a free booster. Of the few people that do come back for a booster, it is near 100% effective. I take great pride in knowing that I had something to do to help someone be successful in their goal to stop smoking. It warms my heart. Please visit my website www.smokefreetimes.com to read testimonies of other’s success stories and learn more about my practice. ~All the best, Susan Redhead, Laser Therapy

GILEAD LUTHERAN CHURCH STORY DINNER Our March story dinner will be held on Friday, March 21st, in the Fellowship Hall at 6PM. Some of these stories are funny and some of them can be sad. At February’s dinner, we learned about disaster relief and how to be prepared in case of a disaster. We learned how the “Lutheran Disaster Relief” team aids victims of disasters, not just created by mother nature, but by other means. As always, there is not charge for the meal. We only ask that you make a donation to one of the charities that we offer. For the month of February, we donated $102.00 to “Lutheran Disaster Response”. We look forward to seeing you on March 21st at Gilead Lutheran Church, located at the jct of Rte. 7 & 278. Again, dinner is at 6PM. Call the church office at 279-9270 if you have questions.

NAVY LT. RAYMOND HELPING RESIDENTS IN LOUISIANA

GREEN GUARANTEE 4-H YOUTH OPPORTUNITIES

Navy Lt. Brian Raymond is helping provide free medical care to residents of rural Louisiana during exercise Cajun Care, Feb. 25 to March 6. Approximately 120 Navy and Air National Guard medical professionals are providing medical, dental and optometry care to area residents of Abbeville, La. More than 2,000 people are expected to receive care here, where the military has set up in a former nursing home. A Department of Defense-sponsored program called Innovative Readiness Training, Cajun Care is designed to provide U.S. military medical professionals valuable training as well as provide health care options to a medically underserved community. The program is in its 20th year, with this year’s exercise Cajun Care providing Abbeville area residents a collective health care benefit valued at more than $1 million. Raymond is a Navy Medical IRT Program Manager assigned to the IRT Program Management, Navy Operational Reserve Center Schenectady, N.Y., and has eight years of military service. “I am truly blessed to be able to be able to play a lead role in the management of this program for the Navy Reserve. I believe this is a great platform to provide free medical care to fellow citizens while learning to integrate with the other service branches,” Raymond said. Raymond is the husband of Christina Raymond of Troy, N.Y. He is a 1989 graduate of Hoosic Valley High School, Schaghticoke, N.Y. He is a 2005 graduate of Norwich University, Vt.

TROY AND THE DRAFT RIOTS OF 1863 On Thursday, March 27th, at 6:30PM, Michael Barrett, Executive Director of the Hudson Mohawk Industrial Gateway will be at the Troy Public Library to discuss Troy and the Draft Riots of 1863. While the city of Troy was a bustling industrial center during the Civil War period, the lives of her workers reflected the same social, financial and emotional upheaval that had torn the nation apart. Local economic and political disparity had led to the early and successful organization of labor, and related political affiliations. These factors were compounded by the enactment of the first military conscription act in American history, which included provisions that many considered to be onerously weighted against the laboring class. This turmoil led to what has been called the second most destructive draft riot in the nation, necessitating some rather unusual governmental responses. This slide-illustrated lecture is a true story about the people and events that don’t always make it into the history books. This program is free and open to the public. Registration is necessary. For more information and to register, call the library at 274-7071 or online at www.thetroylibrary.org. The Troy Public Library is located at 100 2nd Street, Troy, NY.
