POESTENKILL LIBRARY LIGHTS UP FOR THE HOLIDAYS The Poestenkill Library is aglow from 4 to 11PM each night with colorful holiday lights outlining the building.

The lights represent gifts from patrons, neighbors, and other area residents during the annual Light Up the Library appeal.

Donors may give at the Library or through the mail (Poestenkill Library, PO Box 305, Poestenkill 12140) and are encouraged to honor someone with their gifts. The Friends of the Poestenkill Library will notify the people who are honored. Gifts of $100 or more are recognized with a glowing candle in one of the many windows, and qualify the donor for a free year’s membership in the Friends. Gifts of $75 are recognized by the beautiful wreaths in the windows. Gifts of all sizes make the holiday lights appeal a wonderful year-end show of support from the community. Contributions are used to maintain the excellence of the collections and to allow for special programming and materials.

The Friends of the Poestenkill Library appreciate Lorraine and Ken Kaskoun for hanging the wreaths high in the windows after sprucing them up with new bows and to John Kwasnowski for his careful camera work to capture the lights display after dark. Many volunteers are behind the Library’s annual fund raising appeal and they all say, “Happy Holidays, please remember the Library!”

Kindergarten students from Holy Spirit School present their annual Nativity scene to remind the school community of the reason we celebrate Christmas. The manger was visited by the Three Kings, and the entire school community joined in singing “Silent Night”.

AVERILL PARK ART STUDENTS: AMONG THE TOP IN THE REGION

Averill Park Art students always put forth their best when it comes to their artwork, but during the first week of November they put in extra time and effort to put together a portfolio that would be presented to multiple college representatives from around the country.

Sage Portfolio Day is held every year at Sage College for students to show their artwork to college representatives in hopes of getting constructive criticism that may or may not lead to acceptance to an art program or possible art scholarships. Colleges like St. Rose, Hartwick, Syracuse, Hartford, SUNY New Paltz, Potsdam, Purchase and many others, were visiting the Sage campus to review art student’s work.

Great feedback was given to some of our Averill Park art students, whether it was advice on composition, line relationships, or foreshortening. Students left with ideas about how to expand their portfolios and develop themselves more as artists, this increases the chances for successful reviews in the future.

When reviewing portfolios, colleges are scoring students on formal skill level, a willingness to take risks, and overall presentation. Colleges want to see how students present their work to the reviewer.

Beyond constructive criticism, a lot of Averill Park students were instantly accepted into some college’s art programs. Out of seventeen students that were able to attend the event, at least twelve of them were told they would be accepted into one or more art programs. The Historical Society of Esquatak recently installed a blue and gold historical marker in front of the Nassau Academy, located in the village of Nassau. Built in the mid 1830’s, the Academy was a private school and was attended by Verplank Colvin, who excelled in sciences and graduated in 1864. He went on to survey the Adirondack Park, discover Lake Tear-of-the Clouds, the source of the Hudson River, and become the president of the department of physical science at the Albany Institute. The building is now a private residence. Esquatak’s Historical Marker Committee wishes to thank Charles Collins, Village of Nassau Mayor; the Nassau Village Board; Tony Tafur and Jay Devlin of the Nassau Village Department of Public Works; Nassau Village Clerk Heather Werner and Norman and Colleen Rowe, homeowners, for making this project possible. This is the first such historical marker erected within the village.

POESTENKILL SPIRIT DAY COMMITTEE MEETS TO DISBURSE FUNDS The Poestenkill Spirit Day Committee recently met for the final disbursement of monies from the Flood Victims Fund. The committee is a collaborative effort of the Library, Fire Department, Town Offices and Business Association. The Fund included money collected from the sale of T-shirts and Poestenkill pins, the Poestenkill Spirit Day dinner, TV raffle and Chinese auction, as well as cash donations from many individuals, businesses and community groups.

Nearly thirty Poestenkill households deemed to have suffered severe damage after Tropical Storm Irene have received payments from the Fund. In addition, local trades people who volunteered their expertise were reimbursed for material expenses. The Fund also paid for water connections for several affected residents.

The generosity of the Poestenkill community is evident from the number and variety of donations, and the enthusiasm shown by various individuals and community groups. It is the Spirit Day committee’s hope that these disbursements will help ease some of the hardships our neighbors experienced as they continue to recover.

It links consumers with programs that provide energy efficiency improvements with subsidies, low-interest loans, or free services to qualifying households. Participants will receive a free energy kit, including weather-stripping, shrink window insulation, faucet aerator, outlet and light switch gaskets, and more.

The program will be held Tuesday, January 24th, at 6:00 p.m. at the Main Library.

EmPower New York workshops are sponsored by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) and developed by Cornell Cooperative Extension and NYSERDA. This program is free and open to the public, but advance registration is required by calling the library at 274-7071.

There are two types of national scholarships. One is open to ALL New York State High school seniors. These seniors need not be the child of a member of the Elks. The other national scholarship is open ONLY to children and grandchildren of active Elks members. The state scholarships are for high school seniors who parent is a member is good standing in the Order of Elks.

However, when we are dealing with mental illness in our homes, it can also be overwhelming, stressful, chaotic, sad, scary, and totally emotional. When everyone else is shopping and singing carols, we are worrying if we are going to make it through without a crisis intervention.

I’m here to let you know that you are not alone... these feelings are normal and okay. Don’t feel guilty for them, don’t ignore them, but don’t stress over them either... just acknowledge their existence and remember NAMI Rensselaer County is here if you need some support. RENSS. CITY REPUB. COMMITTEE WORKING HARD FOR ITS CONSTITUENTS Letter to the Editor: During the last two years, the Rensselaer City Republican Committee has worked to build a solid professional organization, reinforce relations with our county committee and elected officials, make our presence visible at official city meetings, raise resources for expanded future team efforts and attract new candidates and new Republican voters.

Under the leadership of Chair Lou Lourinia, Vice Chair Ernie Dambrose, and Treasurer Bernie Haskell, these goals have achieved limited success and show promise of concrete results in the next two years. Committee members have attended all county fundraisers during this period and have supported the congressional campaigns of Ted Danz and Chris Gibson, State Senator Roy McDonald, Assemblyman Steve McLaughlin, County Sheriff Jack Mahar, and District Attorney Candidate Joel Abelove. Moreover, committee members have solidified relations with County Executive Kathy Jimino, County Clerk Frank Merola, County Legislator Mike Stammel, and County Chairman Neil Kelleher and John Rustin.

At City Council meetings, Lou Lorinia and former Fourth Ward Council Candidate Dave Gardner have consistently called for more open government, establishment of a city Police blotter, and ward reports. At City Planning Commission meetings, Lou Lorinia and the “Concerned Citizens of Rensselaer” organization called for denial of authorization of the proposed asphalt plant in the City’s Port District.

In October, the committee conducted voter registration efforts in the area known as “The Mansions” and other northern neighborhoods of Rensselaer.

Most recently, the committee introduced Mrs. Colleen Pierson as our 2013 candidate for Mayor at a December 8th Fundraiser at “Angle B’s Coffee Beanery” on Washington Avenue. This was the third successful fundraiser at that location.

by Claire Everett The athletes of Averill Park battled for another week. Both girls and boys Basketball took their best shot at their skilled opponents and Bowlers kept the ball rolling against theirs.

On Tuesday, the Warriors took on the Columbia Blue Devils.

The girls were away and obliterated the competition. The final score was 55-35. The win was a team effort with all players contributing, but especially great games to Brooke O’Shea and Bridget Carney, each with 15 points.

The boys took on Columbia at home. Although AP showed supreme effort, they fell short 74-56. Great job to Nick Hess who scored 17 points. Dan VanRoy was also a game changer with 15 points.

The Bowlers fought against Columbia as well. Unfortunately, the boys fell short 22-10. Excellent job to Hector Hernandez who led the boys with a 268 high game and a 673 triple! On the girl’s side, the lady Bowlers earned a major victory 20-12.

This was the first time AP girls beat Columbia in at least 10 years. Great job to Catie Bell with a 203-589 day!

On Friday, the AP athletes faced the intimidating Shaker Bisons.

The girls Basketball team played with no fear and gave Shaker a run for their money but, unfortunately, fell short 52-46.

Great game to Bridget Carney who dominated down low and outscored the opposing big 14-3. Also, an amazing job to Brooke O’Shea with 10 points and Elaina Ryan with 6.

The boys took on the Bisons at home in an intense night game.

AP fought hard, but Shaker was too much. The Warriors lost 67-59. Noteworthy effort to Lucas Ziegler who hit three 3pointers. Also, congratulations to Nick Hess who got four 3pointers to fall.

On Wednesday, the boy’s Bowling team took their own shot at the Bisons. The boys came away with a win, 23-9. Outstanding game to Kyle Thibeault with an end score of 237-695. AP athletes have been holding their own with the best in the league. Great job on the season so far and good luck against Saratoga this week! TWIN TOWN DEVIL CATS REGISTRATION The Twin Town Devil Cats are taking registrations for players for our 9U team.

Players who are 8 years old during the 2012 season may also apply. We are also looking for a manager for the 9U team. All players from all areas may apply, however, the organization mostly receives players from the Averill Park School District. The Twin Town Devil Cats registration costs are contingent on what the team decides to do.

Registration costs have to include umpire costs, team insurance, baseballs, field costs, etc. We do not subsidize registration prices from others registered in the organization like some organizations. Players at all ability levels are encouraged to apply and we will try and create enough teams as there is interest. We are also still taking registrations for players at the 13U level who are moving on from Little League. We are a nonprofit organization and are here to provide baseball for all.

Don’t be fooled by organizations that promote more fun for less cost, because that usually means less of everything else.

Wrestling fire? No, I think it’s wrestling and fire fighting is what this week’s athlete is all about.

Jonathan Carroll, a senior at Averill Park High School, is a varsity wrestler and has been since his sophomore year. This is pretty impressive given the fact that he only started wrestling one year prior to that. Jon is also a volunteer Fire Fighter at the Wynantskill Fire Department in his spare time and he enjoys going on calls and training with the department. He enjoys fire fighting so much that next year his plan is to attend Schenectady Community College and major in Fire Protection Technology. Jon’s favorite subject in school this year is forensics.

He is also taking Public Speaking, Detective Speaking, Statistics, Economics, and Participation in Government.

Jon is a positive athlete that works really hard on and off the mat. He is a busy kid with all of the pre-season workouts that he does with his team, but he finds time to volunteer and spend time with his friends and family. Carroll’s favorite part of wrestling is competing in the matches and working hard at all times. “Being dedicated means that you have to work with your team no matter what, and you have to go to every team event like practices and competitions,” replied Jon when asked about what it means to him to be a dedicated athlete.

He would like to thank all of his coaches for his success on the mat and for everything that they have taught him about wrestling. Jon says that his Dad inspires him to be the person that he is today and that there are also many other people that act as role models for him. Even though Jon won’t be wrestling in college next year, he is still really looking forward to his senior year on the team, and he is excited for his season of competitions to begin.

Best of luck to Jon and the rest of the Averill Park Varsity team in their 2011-2012 season.

TWIN TOWN TEENAGE BASEBALL Twin Town Little League is currently exploring the possibilities of expanding into teenage baseball by adding three new levels of play. Junior League (13-14 year olds); Senior League (1316 year olds); The Big League (16-18 year olds).

Plans are ongoing to begin Junior League play in the spring of 2012 and based on the level of interest begin Senior League play in the spring as well. The playing season will run from late April thru mid-June. Games will be played on a field the same size as the Major Leagues.

The teams will be community based and only open to players that reside within the Twin Town Little League boundaries.

Players thru All Stars will also have the ability to compete in International Tournaments at each level with the championship games being televised on ESPN. Registration will begin in January 2012 and include a player registration fee of approximately $100.00 - $125.00.

EMPIRE STATE PLAZA ICE RINK TO OPEN IN JANUARY Commissioner RoAnn Destito announced that the Empire State Plaza ice rink will open to the public for the first time since 2007. The popular outdoor rink will open in early January and is anticipated to remain open for the remainder of the winter. The rink will be open in the afternoons and evenings, 7 days per week, and skating will be free.

The New York State Office of General Services (OGS) and Olympic Regional Development Authority (ORDA) are partnering with the Lake Placid Regional Winter Sports Committee, a 501C3 corporation, who will underwrite the ice rink operations by contributing $100,000 for the 2012 winter season. The funds will support the mission of the organization to enhance New York State’s economy, quality of life, image and development of regional, national and international sports and will be used at the Empire State Plaza to sponsor skating clinics for inner-city youth to promote an active lifestyle and as a recruitment tool for potential world-class athletes. Funding will also be used to attract visitors to events and activities in the Lake Placid region including world-class bobsledding, professional figure skating, the Empire State Games, and skiing and snowboarding at Whiteface Mountain and Gore Mountain.

“ORDA is excited to team up with the Sports Committee to bring skating back to the plaza. Skating is a terrific family activity and it’s great that families and people of all ages will have the chance to skate again in this beautiful complex,” Ted Blazer, ORDA president and CEO, said.

Rensselaer County was represented by the Splash of Flash Team, comprised of 4-Hers, Morgan Kunz – team manager, Courtney Luskin, Olivia Logue, Kerry Judge and Riley Dunn. This is a very comprehensive event that evaluates teams on their barn management skills, horse science knowledge, team problem presentation as well as horse show performance. Teams are made up of two senior riders, two junior riders and one senior team manager. During this 2 day contest, there is no communication with adults, 4-H members are not allowed to interact or communicate at all with any adults, which creates an environment in which members are responsible for every detail of the contest and work together and problem solve as a team. Judge, a junior rider, placed 8th in western equitation, 2nd in equitation over fences, 6th in dressage and 5th in written test. Dunn, the other junior rider for the team placed 1st in English pleasure, 6th in English equitation, 3rd in western pleasure, and 5th in dressage. Logue, a senior rider placed 3rd in Dressage, 4th in English pleasure, 4th in command, 8th in trail and 4th in the written test. Kunz placed 6th in the manager’s riding class. Individually, Dunn and Logue placed 7th and 5th respectively overall within their junior and senior divisions. Splash of Flash placed 5th for Stable Management, 3rd for Equine Knowledge and were the 2nd place Overall Team. The goal of 4-H is to teach youth life skills through projects and events such as this that youth can apply beyond 4-H. NYS YOUTH SNOWMOBILE SAFETY COURSE On Saturday, January 7, 2012, the Rensselaer County SnowRiders Snowmobile Club and the NYS Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation will host a snowmobile safety course for people ages 10 to 18. Students must be at least 10 years old on the day of the course. This is a required course for snowmobile operators aged 10-18. Parents are encouraged to attend and participate.

The course will be held at the Hoosic Valley Firehouse located in the Schaghticoke Fairgrounds. Class will begin promptly at 8am and end at approximately 5pm. Please arrive early. The course will cover topics such as NYS laws and regulations, riding skills, trail emergencies, protecting the environment, maintenance and repair, trailer safety, etc.

EVENTS AT PEEBLES ISLAND STATE PARK • Winter Trail Walk on Dec 29, 2011 at 10 a.m. Let’s explore the Island’s trail system in winter to see what Mother Nature is doing and enjoy the views along the way. Dress warmly; bring binoculars and your snowshoes if conditions permit. We will meet at the Peebles Island Visitor Center.

• Lost in the Woods Program at the Visitor Center on Dec 28, 2011 at 1 pm. Lost in the Woods is an outdoor preparedness program that teaches children what to do to stay safe if they are ever lost in the outdoors. Children will learn how to make themselves more visible to rescuers, how to protect themselves from the elements, and what they don’t need to be afraid of in the woods. As part of this program, children will familiarize themselves with animal sounds and make a survival kit to take home. There is a $2 fee per kit for materials.

ATHLETES CAMPUS WATCH The season for three local student athletes playing football for St John Fisher College has come to an end. Dan Maloney (09 Columbia), Zach Dolan (09 THS) & Chris Sawyer (08 LHS) lost in Minnesota to St Thomas University only two wins away from the division 3 championship. They were one of the final 8 teams out of 237 in the country. The final poll listed them as 11th in the country. They travelled over 4000 miles in the last three weeks being the lower seed and every time faced an undefeated team. They managed to knock off two conference champions on their home fields which were the number 1 and 3 seeds in the east bracket. It was a terrific season and thanks to all the support and kind words that came from the articles written in the Advertiser and The Record. ~James Maloney

POESTENKILL WATER DISTRICT RESIDENTS Residents of the Town of Poestenkill Water District should note that the Town Board has moved a motion providing for free water meters and water hook up applications through Decem-ber 31, 2011.

The Poestenkill Town Board has continued to waive the $40 Water District Hook Up Application fee and the $150 water meter fee through that date. Persons interested in connecting to the water district should contact Robert Brunet, the Water District Manager at 283-5100 ext. 102. WHEREIN LIES THE TRUTH Letter to the Editor: As I attempt to inform others of things I know to be true, the refrain I most often hear is: How do I know who is telling the truth? It’s not an easy question to answer. I sometimes resort to a little humor: Who are you going to believe, me, or your own lying eyes?

In many cases we can do some research to find solid evidence, but even then, if the liars are deeply or pathologically committed, they will resort to suggesting that there is no right or wrong – only differences of opinion.

With the main-stream media being so deeply committed to the principles, policies and presidents they have ushered in, they seem to have adopted a “to-the-death” mentality. They have lost all credibility with anyone who cares enough to scratch the surface of what they are trying to sell; but as long as one person will believe them, they will carry on. They will become delusional and that’s when they become most transparent.

That’s what we are witnessing in the “occupy” movement. This movement was organized and funded by the same left-wing millionaires and billionaires that are responsible for destroying our economy for their own profit. It was created in a desperate attempt to counter the popular and increasingly powerful grass-roots TEA Party movement.

Some mayors and other politicians supported the occupiers and attempted to create political coat tails for exploitation. The problem was that the occupiers resented being labeled as the “99%”. They were proud to be on the radical fringe. The charade began to collapse when multimillionaire Michael Moore tried to put his arms around them. They rejected him and the other interloping political opportunists when they realized they were being used.

The event raises students’ awareness of world hunger, and fundraises for Oxfam International, a confederation of 15 organizations working together in 98 countries to find lasting solutions to poverty and injustice.

The banquet featured three distinct meals, representing the levels of income throughout the worlds: high-, middle- or lowincome. The meals were assigned at random to participants as they entered. The high-end meal was multi-course and sumptuous. Middle-class representatives dined on a simple meal of beans, rice, and water. Those who drew a low-income ticket sat on the floor, with only rice and water for nourishment.

The evening’s entertainment included members of the WHMS African Drumming class, and a slideshow presentation by 4th through 6th grade students about world hunger. Parents, assuming characterizations describing the situation of a specific person at the income level to which they were assigned, also shared their thoughts during the event. More than 225 people attended the event.

CLINTON HEIGHTS FIRE DEPT. RESPONDS TO FAMILY WITH LOSS of HOME for the HOLIDAYS In response to a serious structure fire Monday evening, December 12th, the Clinton Heights Fire Department (CHFD) has undertaken an emergency fund drive for the family of four that was driven from their home on that winter night. At 9:11pm, the CHFD was dispatched to 223 Maryland Avenue in the Hampton Manor neighborhood of East Greenbush having been toned out for a working structure fire. First arriving crews found the rear of the residence as well as the roof in flames.

Quick work by Clinton Heights with the assistance of the East Greenbush Fire and Defreestville Fire had the fire under control in 15 minutes. The home, however, decorated for the holidays, is now inhabitable until extensive repairs and renovations are made given the fire, smoke and water damage.

The fire fighters were quick to learn that the family included a four year old girl and seven year old boy whose hopes for a happy Christmas were immediately dashed. The fear and overwhelming sense of loss was apparent, and even before the evening was over, there was talk among the fire fighters of how they could be of assistance. Most have families themselves and are keenly aware of the hopes and expectations of families with young children at this special time of year.

Mom and Dad and their two children are now residing at a local hotel and will be spending their Christmas there rather than at home. So in response, in conjunction with the Ladies Auxiliary, members of Clinton Heights Fire have begun a drive to insure this family does not go without the blessings of the Christmas season. An appeal has begun among neighbors, friends and strangers alike for clothing, toys, gift cards and financial donations to assist. The most basics of clothing are being provided immediately including winter wear.

Mom wears a size “large” shirt, size nine pants and size 5 shoe; Dad a 2X shirt, 40/30 pants and size 13 shoe. The boy, age 7 wears a 7/8 boys, and size 1 boys shoe. The young girl, age 4 wears a 4/5 girls, and size 10 toddler shoe. Donations of clothing and toys may be made by calling Station 2 at 462-2922 and either arrange for drop-off or pick-up; or simply drop off what one might give at the fire house [there is not someone there 24 hours so gifts may be left at the door]. On Friday, December 23rd, the Auxiliary and Fire Fighters will be at the fire house at 65 Sherwood Avenue between 4 and 6pm to accept and wrap whatever presents of toys and clothing (unwrapped) may be donated. This will be just in time to assist Santa with his Christmas Eve run!

A bank account entitled, “Maryland Avenue Fire Fund” has been opened at Citizens Bank; any branch will gladly accept financial donations. In the meantime, one may log on to “Clintonheightsfire.com” to learn up to the minute details of the drive. District Chief Randy Cherubino echoed the thoughts of all members of the Department when he said, “The members of the Clinton Heights Fire Department are always on call to respond to our neighbors in need be it fire or other misfortune and in doing so we never lose sight of the human dimension of the people we are privileged to serve. This especially-untimely fire brings the best out of us all.”

Second is an opportunity to understand the Gospel message in St. Luke: ‘From everyone who has been given much, much will be required; and to whom they entrusted much, of him they will ask all the more.’ We all have a role to play in feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, and giving shelter to the homeless.”

FIRST ANNUAL HOLIDAY TOY DRIVE Santa had helpers at Heim’s Auto Care this season.

Matt Heim, owner and proprietor, had “Santa Helpers” this year for his First Annual Holiday Toy Drive to benefit the children of Rensselaer County.

With help from customers, friends and family, the Toy Drive brought in close to $8000 worth of toys and gifts for local kids.

In addition, guests at the Annual Heim’s Auto Care Christmas Party paid an “admission fee” of an unwrapped toy.

“I’ve been wanting to do this for years,” says Heim. “Next year I would like to double what is donated and fill up two garage bays.”

Anyone who is from the Town of North Greenbush, where his garage is located, knows that Matt is a very generous and community minded person.

Co-sponsoring the toy drive with Heim’s Auto Care, is the 42nd Infantry Rainbow Division, based out of Glenmore Rd, North Greenbush. The 42nd Infantry came to pick up twenty four jumbo bags of toys from the garage and will distribute them to local kids this Christmas.

With everything that has happened this year, with the economy, hurricanes, and floods, our community needed to pull together to give some children a Very Merry Christmas.

Were the other media News Directors @ WTEN<WNYT>WRGB afraid of a financial loss if too much was aired on our “Awareness Day”????.

Please everyone, use common sense when partying! Getting “Smashed” is no way to enjoy Christmas, it’s no way for families to be agonized in an E.R. awaiting the positive or negative result of the actions of a “HIGHWAY TERRORIST”. We read, see way too often how many are out there with 5,6,7,8,9 D.W.I’s and still driving. The law is not tough enough, way too many District Attorneys pass out reductions beyond belief ie, Reductions in D.W.A.I. drugs down to reckless driving, and disorderly conduct, this is moving it to a lesser crime, reducing the “Aggravated D.W.I.”. DFD HANDLES 96 CALLS IN OCTOBER AND NOVEMBER Volunteers of the DeFreestville Fire Department answered 54 alarms in October and a further 42 in November to bring the year’s total for responses to 436 according to the monthly reports of Fire Chief Raymond Swart. He said DFD fire fighters had spent a total of more than 2,846 fire fighter hours at alarms during the first 11 months of 2011.

For the two months combined, Chief Swarts said, the DFD alarms included six structure fires, 13 emergency medical service responses in cooperation with the North Greenbush Ambulance, 10 rescue or motor vehicle accident calls and two vehicle fires. Other calls included nine hazardous condition alarms, three outside rubbish fires, a grass/brush fire, a service call, three carbon monoxide detector alarms and one cover assignment for a neighboring department.

There were also 34 false alarms with good intent or unintentional and 13 alarm system malfunctions.

The DeFreestville Fire Department in North Greenbush Fire District # 1 is a volunteer organization established in 1945 that provides emergency services 24 hours a day. The fire department always needs and welcomes new members and community support. DFD’s non-emergency number is 286-3612. All emergencies in Rensselaer County should be reported by dialing 911. SCHODCAK DEM. CLUB ELECTS OFFICERS The Schodack Democratic Club held its annual election of officers and discussed the local election results at its December meeting earlier this month. “Though this year’s election results were not the victory we hoped for, there is definite cause for optimism in the final tallies,” said Town Democratic Chair Elizabeth Gable. “Frank Curtis was believed to be invincible because of his years in service to the Town and his long-time incumbent status. He and Linda were lined up head to head on the ballot and Linda only lost by 214 votes, which in our traditionally Republican town is a very good showing for the Democrats, especially up against the incumbent we assumed was bullet-proof.” The final numbers were: Linda 1467, Frank Curtis 1681, Mike Kenney 2068.

The Schodack Democrats thank the many residents who supported Linda Underwood’s campaign with their donations, volunteer time and votes and extend their congratulations to both Mr. Curtis and Mr. Kenney on their re-election.

Club members held their annual election of officers. Retaining his seat as Club president was Ray Ludwig. Olaf Stackleberg and Linda Underwood also retained their positions as treasurer and secretary respectively. Joe Grimaldi took over the reins as Vice President for his first time as an officer and Mickey Doyle was elected as Assistant Secretary, also her first time as an officer.

Club members unanimously voted to make Dev Tobin, a Rensselaer City resident, an honorary club member to thank him for his three years of service as Linda Underwood’s campaign manager and treasurer.

Upcoming club events include a party and another food drive, both after the holidays.
