Depending on the style and location of your existing conservatory, you could choose to replace your old roof with either a super-efficient Smartglass® roof or an insulated solid roof.

2 Install a new modern roofing system and new energy A-rated Lorimer windows and doors.

We can help you make the most of your existing space by converting it into a modern, multi-purpose room. A Lorimer renovation will reuse your existing foundations and builder work, then fit new energy A-rated Lorimer windows and doors on top, with either a Smartglass® or insulated solid roof.

3 Install a climate control system.

Heat or cool, dehumidify and purify the air in your conservatory with our A+++ rated energy efficient climate control system.

REPLACEMENT I N S U L AT E D S O L I D R O O F

Our inslulated solid roof is a modern alternative to a traditional build which features lightweight composite tiles or slates. It will provide insulation and shading with appropriate ventilation and heating, giving you a comfortable and ambient space to use all year round.

It can be constructed in any of the typical conservatory shapes such as Victorian, Edwardian, lean-to and gable, perfectly replacing the roof you already have. On the inside the roof is fully vaulted, making it a real feature, plus there are various glazing options available to maximise natural light in your new room.

In addition, your choice of fascia and guttering will provide the finishing touches.

WE TAKE CARE OF IT ALL If you are changing your existing structure from a polycarbonate or glass roof to a solid roof, under Scottish Building regulations an application must be made to your local authority for a building warrant. A structural engineer’s report would also be required, which we commission for you.

We will carry out a survey and complete all the necessary architectural drawings and applications on your behalf. We’ll ensure the transformation of your existing conservatory not only looks fantastic but is fully compliant with the standards and regulations required. These regulations include fire, condensation control, ventilation, structural loads and insulation.

It is also worth noting that the connecting room will need an appropriate amount of natural light and ventilation which we can assess for you.

If you happen to live in a conservation area, world heritage site or a listed building you may require planning permission. We can provide advice in these situations and complete the necessary drawings and applications on your behalf.

REPLACEMENT SMARTGLASS® ROOF

If you like the idea of your living space being flooded with natural light, why not upgrade to a Smartglass® roof with optional orangerie detailing. It is far more aesthetically pleasing than the polycarbonate equivalent and provides much better sound insulation, especially during bad weather.

The roof itself is an extruded aluminium clad design which is finished with PVCu on the inside to match the windows. Its engineered construction means the roof is fully built and tested prior to installation which carries British Board of Agrément accreditation. The aluminium design will remain colour-fast and gives it additional rigidity and strength, unlike PVCu roofs.

Each roof has a unique wind and snow loading specification, calculated prior to manufacture.

The roof glass features innovative Smartglass® technology, which is available in a choice of four subtle tints and has a clever coating on the outside which helps keep it cleaner for longer. On the inside, another special coating reflects unwanted heat and glare from the sun in summer, yet helps retain warmth during the winter months, plus it is almost three times as efficient as standard double glazing.

H E AT LO S S R E D U C T I O N Using a low emissivity coating, argon gas filled cavity and warm edge technology, a typical conservatory roof glazed with Smartglass® is able to retain warmth in the winter months almost three times as well as standard glazing.

H E AT R E F L E C T I O N The solar control coating and subtle tint in Smartglass® can reflect over 60% of the sun’s radiant heat during the summer months, dramatically reducing the unwanted build-up of heat that occurs with other glass and polycarbonate roofs.

GLARE REDUCTION Smartglass® does much more to regulate the temperature in a conservatory than standard glass. It is designed to dramatically reduce the glare of the sun, reflecting nearly 60%† of visible light and filtering out harmful UV rays. The result is a light and airy room, which can be further enhanced in tone by one of the four Smartglass® subtle tints.

WA R M - E D G E T E C H N O L O G Y No matter how efficient your glazing is, condensation can still form at the edges of the frames. That’s because the metallic spacer bar at the edges acts as a bridge, allowing the cold air to pass through it. To reduce this, Smartglass® uses warm edge technology which is 950 times more efficient than aluminium, increasing internal temperatures and minimising condensation.

SOUNDPROOFING Made from two panels of 4mm toughened safety glass, the rigid unit construction offers twice the soundproofing of standard roofing products such as polycarbonate.

S TAY S C L E A N E R F O R L O N G E R Smartglass® provides low-maintenance technology with its ground-breaking properties.

It has a dual action ‘photo-catalytic’ coating on the outer face, which harnesses the ultraviolet energy in daylight to break down organic matter and then allows it to stay cleaner for longer.

The epitome of modern living, an orangerie consists of a partial solid ceiling but has an overarching glazed roof. This beautiful design feature still provides you all the spectacular natural light of a traditional conservatory, but gives the feeling of a more enclosed space.

Internally, the overall width of the orangerie detailing is bespoke so we can design it to suit the style of your newly refurbished living space. It also allows you to effortlessly incorporate contemporary design features such as downlighters and speakers. Externally, the orangerie is fitted with a decorative aluminium gutter system.

I N T E R I O R D E C O R AT I O N Internally we’ll give your conservatory a complete makeover to your exact specification of finishes including new plasterboard, sills and skirtings and engineered timber flooring.

We’ll also fit new electrics and heating. Finally, our professional decorators will paint the walls and varnish the sills and skirtings, giving you a stunning new multipurpose space.

CONTOURED SHAPE The Lorimer range has been designed to replicate the appearance of timber products, with slim frames and a contoured shape. All transoms and mullions are mechanically jointed for a more attractive finish.

DOUBLE GLAZED UNITS Filled with Argon gas, our units are fitted with two panes of toughened glass, one of which has a low-emissivity coating to reduce heat loss. Both panes are held together with a warm edge spacer bar for increased thermal performance.

E N E R G Y E F F I C I E N T & A - R AT E D All Lorimer conservatories, orangeries, and sunrooms are fitted with energy A-rated windows. Our Lorimer doors are manufactured to the same high glazing specification as our windows. The Lorimer window is designed to offer optimum weather performance to suit the Scottish climate and also to provide a classic slim-line appearance.

STRONG STRUCTURAL STRENGTH Lorimer windows and doors are fully reinforced with aluminium and steel to provide structural strength. All the fittings for our hinges, locks and handles are fixed into the aluminium or steel reinforcement. Our unique multi-chamber profile design adds even more strength to the Lorimer frame as well as providing better thermal performance.

WINDOW & DOOR SECURITY To ensure they are also extremely secure, every casement window is fitted with Glass Bond™ technology to seal the glass unit into the PVCu frame, which has British Board of Agrément accreditation. They also have a multi-point espagnolette lock with two mushroom heads and two flat-knife shootbolts for additional peace of mind.

LEAD FREE & VIRGIN PVCu Lorimer PVCu is lead free, using organic stabilisers and is also 100% virgin PVCu which guarantees our white windows will stay white.

A Lorimer renovation can be designed to include our climate control system, which we believe is the best way to regulate the temperature in your conservatory. We also recommend fitting opening windows all the way round plus doors to allow a free flow of air.

Whether you want to feel cosy on a winter’s night or read a book under summer skies, you can get the most out of your new living space.

The system is ‘A+++’ energy rated which means that it’s cheaper to run than an electric heater or radiator.

Additionally, the system can de-ionise and purify the air, all at the touch of a button. It can also be integrated with the MELCloud app, Amazon Alexa or Google Home. It comes in a choice of colours to suit your interior decoration.
